Jayde Hall, 26, had given Carl Scott one week to leave her home after he had accused her of having an affair following a night out.
On the morning of May 24 he moved out of the house where he lived with Jayde and her eight-year-old son in Meir, Staffordshire.
But when Jayde returned home from work with her son she was allegedly stabbed by 46-year-old Scott, StokeonTrentLive reports.
Now her devastated father Philip Hall says he feels 'cheated' after the suspect then 'hanged himself in prison' after murder arrest on May 27.
He had been remanded in custody accused of murdering Jayde.
The 54-year-old, of Longport, Staffordshire, said: "That week they were splitting up. Jayde had given him a week to find somewhere to live and on the Friday morning he went with his stuff.
"She went to work as normal and when she returned she was supposed to get clothes for her and her son and come to stay here for a few days for the bank holiday weekend.
"We were waiting for her to come and I couldn't understand why she was taking so long. I got a phone call at about 10.15pm saying she'd been murdered. I can't explain it, it was horrible and I was just numb.
"I got straight in my car and drove there, we showed up but we couldn't get near because the road was cordoned off. We saw the police cars and knew it was true.
"I just had to go there to see that it was happening and know it was real, it was just like a bad dream and it still is."
Philip says Jayde and Scott had been in a relationship for 15 months and met at the Well Pharmacy warehouse, in Meir, where they both worked.
Jayde leaves behind her mum Teresa Green, her brothers Matthew and Mark Hall, her step-brother Matthew Fern and step-sister Victoria Riley.
And her eight-year-old son who she had brought up as a single mum since he was three-months-old and dad Philip said: "Her son was in the house when it happened.
"He doesn't say much about it and I think he's bottling stuff up. We don't know if he saw anything because he hasn't opened up.
"It's been devastating, it's rocked the family. It was Father's Day on Sunday and she'd always come here and make a fuss. When her son walked in we were just waiting for Jayde to walk in behind him.
"I was sitting in the yard looking at the gate expecting her to come through it, I couldn't get away. She was my only daughter and my youngest child, she was my baby.
"If anyone had a problem she would help them. Everything she did was for her son and he never went without anything. She loved dress making and for Halloween she made skeleton costumes that lit up for her son.
"She even wanted to design her own wedding dress one day, but now I'll never be able to walk her down the aisle."
