ASUU Resumes Indefinite Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University chapter, today, resumed indefinite strike to press home its demands.

The union had embarked on a strike in 2018 but suspended it when the Taraba government promised to meet its demands which included the payment of earned academic allowances from 2014 till date, and the provision of required infrastructure to enhance teaching and learning.

Dr Samuel Shikaa, the branch Chairman, and Dr Atando Agbu, the Secretary, in a statement shortly after the Executive Council Meeting with the national officials in Jalingo, said that the teachers would remain at home until the demands were met.

The union said that the law establishing the university, which specified adequate funding for the institution, had been abandoned by the state government, NAN reports.

Photos: Celebration In Algeria As President Of 20 Years Resigns After Mass Protests

Algeria's President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has resigned with immediate effect, according to state media, ceding power in the face of massive street protests against his 20-year rule.

The ailing, 82-year-old leader announced he was stepping down in a letter published by APS news agency on Tuesday, just hours after the army chief demanded immediate action to remove him from office.

"My intention ... is to contribute to calming down the souls and minds of the citizens so that they can collectively take Algeria to the better future they aspire to," Bouteflika said in the letter to the president of the Constitutional Council.

"I have made this decision to avoid and prevent the arguments which distort, unfortunately, the current situation, and avoid its turning into serious skirmishes, to ensure the protection of persons and property," he added.

The announcement prompted celebrations in Algeria's capital, Algiers, with hundreds of people singing songs and waving flags in front of the city's central post office.

"This is a victory for my country," said 25-year-old Kamel, who only gave his first name. "We now want the rest of the old guard to leave, we also want the corrupt businessmen to be judged. We have won one political battle, not yet the war."

Dancing Senator: 4 Reasons Judgement On My Candidacy Can't Stand

Senator Ademola Adeleke has provided four reasons why he believes the Tuesday’s judgment of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Bwari, Abuja, nullifying his candidature for the September 2018 governorship election in Osun State, would not stand.

Justice Othman Musa of the FCT High Court in Bwari, Abuja, had, on Tuesday, nullified Adeleke’s nomination by the Peoples Democratic Party for the last year’s poll.

The judge held that Adeleke was not qualified to run for the office of a governor, not being, allegedly, educated up to secondary school level as required of him under Section 177 of the Nigerian Constitution.

But, rejecting the judgment in a statement, Adeleke vowed to appeal against it, describing it as “flawed and a travesty of justice.”

“While we are set to appeal the judgment, we also find it compelling to put the records straight by listing out the fatal flaws in the ruling and why it cannot stand before any court,” Adeleke said.

The statement titled, ‘Flawed Bwari judgment against Senator Adeleke cannot stand!’, issued on his behalf in the name of his campaign organisation, was signed by a lawyer, Niyi Owolade.

Adeleke said the message which he “received with bewilderment, subverted justice by ignoring four critical evidence to rule against validated facts and submissions.”

Faulting the judgment, Adeleke said, firstly, there had been “two rulings delivered in September 2018” which “held that Senator Adeleke satisfied all requirements of the law to contest for office.”

He stated that the Tuesday judgment breached the “precept” that “once a court of coordinate jurisdiction has ruled on a matter, court of similar jurisdiction cannot entertain it.”

The statement added that the judge “erred in law by failing to take note of the expiration of 180 days for ruling on pre-election matters.”

It added, “Even when a December 2018 judgment with respect to the issue was presented, the judge chose to ignore it. We note that the judge violated the law by adjudicating over a matter whose filing and hearing period had expired.”

Adeleke’s third reason for faulting the judgment was that the judgment ignored the evidence produced by the West Africa Examination Council which listed “all students who sat for the May/June examination in 1981 alongside the senator, in addition to the certified true copies of his school certificate result.”

The statement said, “From the evidence produced by the Council, it is crystal clear that Senator Ademola Adeleke was, indeed, educated beyond the minimum requirement of ‘up to secondary school level’ as stipulated by law and therefore qualified to run for the office of governor in accordance with Section 177 (D) of 1999 CFRN (as amended). Not withstanding, the judge still went ahead to rule otherwise.

“The only statutory body empowered by law to determine authenticity of a secondary school results is the West African Examination Council and they confirmed the authenticity of Senator Adeleke’s result by producing a CTC of the same result. What evidence did the judge therefore base his ruling on?”

Lastly, Adeleke said, the judge was wrong to conclude that he forged the senior secondary school statement of result which he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Adeleke explained that having been shocked by the evidence produced by WAEC showing that he sat for the May/June 1981 examinations, the plaintiffs, again, went on to have the principal of the school to appear in court to confirm the authenticity of the statement of results.

He said, “The principal appeared and confirmed that the statement was genuinely issued by the school and that any error noticed on the statement was that of the school, not that of Senator Adeleke. The school did not, at any point, disown the statement of results.”

He said the school “owned up to the error, which was not about forgery.”

He said, “From the foregoing, we affirm that the judgment of the Bwari court is a travesty of justice, a purchased ruling designed to negatively affect the outcome of Osun governorship judicial process.

“We declare unequivocally that the ruling, being so glaringly against tested facts and the law, cannot stand.

“It is also clear that the ruling cannot, in any way, stop the reality that Senator Ademola Adeleke fulfilled constitutional requirements to be Governor of Osun State.

“We appeal to our numerous supporters and good people of Osun State to remain calm. This is another failed bid in the efforts of detractors and enemies of democracy. Senator Ademola Adeleke is not only qualified but by the grace of God will soon be sworn in as the legitimate Governor of Osun State.”

Omotola Ekeinde Shares How Her First Daughter Almost Died When She Was Barely A Year Old

Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has shared how she nearly lost her first daughter, Princess when she was barely a year old.

The mum of four wrote;
#wcw
She was barely a year, she started running a temperature, can’t remember how many hours anymore... she is our first child and we had not much experience.

Gave her some medication didn’t seem to get better...suddenly,she slipped into what seemed to be a COMA.

I panicked,we all did... neighbors everyone screaming and suggesting all sorts.... she was clenching her teeth fiercely, an Old woman we knew in the neighborhood suggested to put a spoon and pour SALT into her mouth (Totally wrong move)"Pls cold shower”...

We rushed her to the hospital and at first, the doctors were a bit reluctant ( I guess they thought it was a lost case) however, almost without much hurry she was worked on and miraculously, she came back!

She had prior turned cold and was not responsive... hmm

We were told , it was “High fever” it had affected her brain and she could probably not develop normally or be able to catch up with her peers. Short of saying a vegetable.... As people of faith, we called on God, used proper medication and most importantly, applied extra lessons and treated her Normal as others.

At first it was challenging, as she grew, she struggled, mostly with her sight. She couldn’t see things right in front of her! Even in school , she would be put in front and still not see. A few changed schools, glasses, extra lessons ...we kept pushing.

At every level Princess Worked Extremely hard, harder than others . Always trying to prove everyone wrong and pass.

Every time we feared or doubted, she passed with flying colors and moved to the Next phase! Miracles before our eyes... Today she not only finished well from Uni, she insists on going for her Masters and is conquering all her fears.

Yesterday, she drove with her dad without instructions back and forth in traffic all around v.i.

You might not really understand this but anyone who’s been told they can’t achieve or do something especially for health reasons will understand.

This is the first time I am saying this in public and Many will be shocked, some might go,oh... now I understand... Princess, you’ve been an inspiration to Me without even knowing. May you inspire others too. God Continue to Bless you my #WCE

Bola Tinubu: How A Naval Officer Slapped Me When I Was A Taxi Driver

Former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu who spoke during his 67th birthday celebration on 29 March, narrated how a naval officer slapped him. According to the APC Chieftain, it was an incident he will never forget and it all occurred when he over-charged a naval officer who was returning to the country.

Tinubu, narrating how the naval officer slapped him, said;
“One experience I will not forget was when I over-charged a naval officer, who was returning to the country. It was not intentional. Apparently, I didn’t know the direction; there was no GPRS in those days to locate directions. So, he gave me the direction to his house in a Virginia suburb.

“I gave him the price and the man responded with a slap to my face. He said I should know the correct fare to charge to the location he mentioned. He slapped me and gave me the money."

Woman Electrocuted After Taking Drugs At Rave & Falling Onto Live Rail Track

A woman who fell onto a live rail track and was electrocuted had taken a cocktail of drugs at an all-night rave before her death, an inquest has heard.

Hayley Prett, 40,  was seen near the tracks the morning she wandered off from the annual End of Summer Party bash by a beach in Folkstone, Kent on September 29.

Miss Prett, who worked as a carer, had been at the rave with around 30 other people before she wandered off.

She had partied with pals at the rave and had taken cocaine, ecstasy, ketamine and amphetamines during the night, the inquest at Maidstone Coroner's Court heard last week.

Detective Constable Mark Connor, of the British Transport Police, told the inquest how pals found Miss Prett lying in a bush in the early hours of Sunday morning following the rave, but she waved them away.

He told the court how she was then seen at 8.30am on September 30 near the rail tracks "bending down and waving her arms around".

The witness told the inquest how they thought Miss Prett - who was naked after stripping off all her clothes - was performing a "ritual" and left her alone.

Her body was found on the train tracks between Folkestone and Dover at 10am by a group of joggers.

The inquest heard how Miss Prett, of Sandgate, Kent, was drinking gin and lemonade - as well as having taking a cocktail of drugs - at the rave and that other revellers said she seemed 'happy'.

Coroner Katrina Hepburn heard how a toxicity report showed that Miss Prett had 4.2mg of ecstasy in her system, which is considered to be 'excessive', as well as cocaine, ketamine and amphetamines.

The court heard how Miss Prett was a recreational drug user.
Miss Prett's family stressed her drug-taking was recreational and by no means habitual, according to Kent Live.

DC Connor told the inquest: "It (The End of Summer Party) normally attracts people from the Folkestone and Dover areas. She had been to that party before."

A pathology report revealed that an examination of Miss Prett's body showed she had burn lines to her back, elbow and buttocks, caused by electrocution.

The coroner told the inquest last week: "She has died as a result of electrocution and burns but this has to be looked at in the context of significant drug intoxication.

“The MDMA was at 4.2mg/litre which is described as being excessive and indeed there’s evidence that levels of concentration greater than 3mg/litre are typically reported with fatality.

“I take the view that this particular evening, Miss Prett had a number of drugs in her system at the time also ketamine, evidence of previous cocaine use and also amphetamines in her system.

“The drugs together would have had a profound effect on her.”

She added: "It is unclear on the evidence, what caused her to get down onto the tracks.
“Whether she fell, or collapsed, had a medical episode or if she intended to lie down I simply cannot reach that conclusion.

“I have no evidence she was intending to take her own life.

“I find this is a drugs-related death."

Did Kris Jenner FAKE Jordyn Woods Scandal To Save Keeping Up With The Kardashians?

It takes a certain je ne sais quoi to keep a reality television series going for a staggering 16 years.

But if anyone can accomplish it then it's Kris Jenner. And viewers reckon the hawk-eyed matriarch has played a blinder this time by allegedly unleashing the ultimate tactic to get viewers hooked.

Few can forget the high drama that landed on our laps earlier this year when Kylie Jenner's ride-or-die was allegedly caught snogging Khloe Kardashian's baby daddy, Tristan Thompson.

She was immediately excommunicated from the Kardashian klan and kicked out of Kylie's mega mansion.

And now fans reckon it was all a carefully orchestrated plan by the cunning Kris Jenner - who famously turned her daughters into millionaires with her wily ways - to revive the flagging cash cow that is Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

"If kris Jenner thinks I’m watching KUWTK to know the Jordyn Woods drama she’s definitely right!" one fan unashamedly confessed.

"I'm really wondering if Kris and them really masterminded this whole Jordyn thing because I know at least 5 people, myself included, who weren't even checking for her fitness brand before the scandal. Now we're all planning our fits. Seems like a strategy to me," speculated another.

"Yeah. That Jordyn Woods drama promo was lit. Kris did excellent," agreed a third.

And with KUWTK returning at roughly the same time as the much-anticipated final series of Game Of Thrones, some joked it'd be crafty KJ who ended up taking the throne for herself.

"Theres like 10 episodes before I HAVE to Keep Up With the Kardashians this season bc of Jordyn Woods-gate. Hopefully this doesn't interfer w Game of Thrones. Or hopefully it does and Kris Jenner ends up on the Iron Throne. The Night King works hard but Kris Jenner works harder," one quipped.

Baby Girl In Agony For Months After Nurse Left Wet Wipes Inside Her After Birth

The horrific case led to the infant's father wrongly falling under suspicion of child s-x crimes

A baby girl was in agony for more than three months after a maternity hospital nurse left surgical wipes inside the infant's after her birth.

The nurse had inserted wipes into the baby to stop post-natal bleeding - then forgot to remove them before the girl was taken home by her parents.

The horrific case in Russia led to the child's father and other family members facing “hell” as they wrongly fell under suspicion of child s-x crimes.

Mother-of-three Tatiana Sibasova said her daughter was often in pain especially when urinating, and was frequently in a bad mood and cried a lot.

Then the child started smelling badly - but it took three months before the cause was noticed.

Two months after the girl was born, the mother noticed the end of an antiseptic wipe and a gynaecologist diagnosed her with severe inflammation of the genital area.

But the problems persisted and one month later a second surgical wipe was found inside the child.

The girl was discharged from hospital but the problem continued and subsequently a third wipe was found and removed under general anaesthetic.
The girl’s hymen had been damaged, said doctors.

Police were called and the family fell under suspicion.

A criminal case was opened under which the parents, an aunt and a female sibling were suspected of “violent actions of sexual character” against a minor, a crime that can lead to 20 years in jail.

“The family went through hell,” said their lawyer Anastasiya Kopteeva.
“Law enforcement suspected the girl's father, mother, aunt and even older sister.

“This girl was asked whether she had played doctor with her baby sister.

“The aunt who had recently lost a child was suspected.”

Tatiana, sobbing, said: “There were interrogations, and our family was under suspicion."

She was asked: “Perhaps, your husband abused her or your elder daughter?”

The ordeal was “scary” she said.
But investigators realised the wipes were of a type only available in hospitals.

Detectives then traced the nurse who had cleaned the girl after birth.

The woman, Lyudmila Cherkasova, said she was “scared” to come forward earlier, fearing she would lose her job.

Doctors told investigators that bleeding is common in newborn girls but does not require wipes being inserted.

The s-x crime investigation was dropped and the nurse is now charged with medical negligence causing injury to a child.

She faces up to four months in jail if convicted.

“I want her to be fired and put in jail,” said the mother.

Dad Hangs Daughters & Sends Photos To 'Cheating' Wife Before Killing Himself

A dad hanged his two young daughters and sent WhatsApp photos of their bodies to his estranged wife before killing himself - and she is now being investigated by police.

The woman's in-laws are blaming her for the deaths and police have registered a criminal case for murder and abetment to suicide against the mum and her alleged lover.

It is claimed Rishikant Kudupalli, 40, murdered his girls - 18-month-old Kartiki and six-year-old Narayani - and took his own life in a twisted attempt to exact revenge on his wife Pragati, who was allegedly cheating on him.

The mum had deserted them and her husband, a college teacher, by eloping with her lover, local media reports claimed.

She was left horrified and distraught when she checked her phone and found pictures of the girls' bodies at the family's home in the city of Ballarpur in central India.

Police said the double murder and suicide were carried out in the early hours of Tuesday morning, the Hindustan Times reported.

Kudupalli was upset and angry after finding out that his wife was allegedly having an affair, his brother told police.

A few days ago, the wife allegedly eloped with her lover, deserting her husband and two daughters, the report claimed.

Kudupalli and his family had tried to find his wife, hoping they could convince her to return, the Times of India reported.

However, she refused to go home with them, the report added.

At about 1am on Tuesday, Kudupalli choked and hanged both of his daughters, snapped photos of their bodies and sent the images to his wife, said police.

He then took his own life.

After discovering the images, his wife alerted her father, and he contacted her husband's brother.

The brother rushed to the house and banged on the door, but no-one answered.

Neighbours helped him break down the door, and they found the three bodies.

Police were then alerted.

Kudupalli's family and neighbours have blamed his wife for the deaths and have called on her to be prosecuted, the Times of India reported.

I Feel Sorry For The Family Of Victims I Killed -Cultist

A notorious cultist, Ogunlaja Elijah, who has been on the wanted list of the Lagos State Police Command,  following alleged killings of rival members and innocent persons in Lagos, yesterday, broke down in tears in an apparent expression of remorse over his misdeeds.

The suspect’s arrest came as relief for residents of Shomolu/Bariga area of Lagos, as they claimed he had unleashed mayhem on several of them.

Narrating how he killed two persons last year,  28-year-old  Elijah, who was arrested alongside two other suspected cultists, Yesuru Adesanya and Kunle Osnowo, said: “ I live in Oworoshoki area of Lagos

. I was initiated into  cultism in 2016 when I accompanied my friend to his father’s burial in Osun State.  When we came back to Lagos, I started my cult gang. The suspects “Sometime last year, there was trouble and they shot one of my friends.

Also in November last year,  my cousin was killed  during a clash with a rival gang. “At the end of the clash, I killed  two people. One of them was from Benue State. I shot him and another person he came with and collected their belongings. “When the police arrested me , I was charged to court but was released in March, 2019.

He said: “My friend capitalised on my illiteracy to lure me into cultism.

Immediately I got to Fadeyi,  I  called him. But to my shock, people  surrounded me and asked me to pull  off my clothes. That was how I was  initiated into cultism.  I have not killed anyone since I joined Eiye confraternity.

And I am not part of those terrorising Shomolu/ Bariga. Immediately I was initiated, I joined NURTW at Jibowu. “I was at home when I heard that they have killed Small Jpron. For 38-year- old, Kunle Osnowo,  he said: “ I blame myself for everything, if I am released from police custody, I will renounce my cult association. If the government want to put an end to cult related activities, they must hold peace talks within the community, considering the fact that there are different cult gangs in different areas.

If the government want to put an end to cult related activities, they must hold peace talks within the community, considering the fact that there are different cult gangs in different areas.

Ondo SS3 Pupil’s Death: Teacher In Police Net, May Be Prosecuted

Following the death of a SS3 pupil of the Ijo Mimo High School, Akure, Temidayo Oluwole, the Ondo State Police Command has said the teacher, who allegedly sent him to pluck mangoes, has been arrested.

Oluwole, who was preparing for his Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination, died on Saturday as a result of the head injuries he sustained after falling from a mango tree on the premises of the school.

It was gathered that one of the teachers in the school, identified simply as Mrs Kura, allegedly sent the deceased to pluck some mangoes for her after tutorial class.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Femi Joseph, told Punch correspondent on Tuesday that the Physics teacher had reported at the police station and she was undergoing interrogation.

Joseph, who said the matter had been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department of the command, added that the teacher might face prosecution for negligence of duty.

The deceased’s father, Pastor Bode Adegoke, however, said he had left everything to God, adding that the state Ministry of Education had taken over the burial programme.

When Punch correspondent visited the school on Tuesday, it was observed that all the trees on the premises had been cut down, including the mango tree from which the deceased fell

Remove Your Illegal Crowns, Olubadan Tells Obas

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso 1 , yesterday replied to the allegations levelled against him by the estranged members of his council.

The high chiefs, led by the Otun Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, accused the monarch of denigrating the Olubadan institution by what they described as “illegal practices and apparent lack of regards for the council”.

But, the Olubadan, in a statement signed by his spokesman, Mr. Adeola Oloko, said there was no truth in the allegation raised against him by the Obas.

The foremost traditional ruler said he has no objection to the return of his embattled high chiefs to the palace once they remove their “illegal crowns”.

According to him, the statement credited to the embattled chiefs lacked substance.

The Olubadan said contrary to the allegations, he was not responsible in the first instance for their desertion from the palace and by so doing, abdicating their responsibilities to Ibadanland.

He also stated that rather than engaging in blame game, the embattled high chiefs, who, he alleged, were afraid of what is likely to befall them after May 29, when power would have changed hands, should have been bold enough to apologise to the people of Ibadan  and Yorubaland for allegedly undermining their customs and tradition.

Describing the crowns of the high chiefs as offensive to the customs and tradition of Ibadanland, the Olubadan said there was nowhere in Yorubaland, where two kings sit inside a palace.

He added that “it is always the king and his chiefs”.

“Apart from violating our customs and tradition, there is no law that backs the wearing of illegal crowns in Ibadanland,” he said.
