President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the killers of the late football fan, Kolade Johnson, would not escape unpunished.

This was said in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina.

“Government will not tolerate in any way the brutalisation of Nigerians or the violation of their rights. Any officer of the law enforcement agencies or any other government functionary caught in this act will certainly be visited with the full weight of the law,” said the statement.

Kolade Johnson was killed on Sunday at Mangoro area of Lagos, after some police men fired shots, which hit him.

Fire Takes Hold Of 230-Year-Old Church In Blackburn

A major fire has taken hold at a 230-year-old church in Blackburn yesterday. Footage on social media shows the building appearing to have been gutted by the flames which broke out shortly before 5.22am.

The building is the oldest church in Blackburn.

The blaze broke out in the early hours of yesterday near a shopping complex in the heart of the Lancashire town.

Peter Howell -Jones, Dean of Blackburn, tweeted that the fire was 'very sad to see'.
He added: "Just praying no one was hurt".


The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The church, finished in 1789, closed its doors to active worship on Easter Sunday 1975.

It is not known if anyone was inside when the fire broke out.

Many residents have taken to social media to post shocking video and images of the huge blaze.

One Twitter user said: “Sounds like things are exploding as well.

“Hope everyone including emergency services are/stay safe.”

No casualties have been reported.

A mum-of-two has told of the devastating moment her partner dumped her while she was in hospital after giving birth to their premature baby.

Lisa Burling was left high and dry by her boyfriend, who "dropped a bomb" on her when he ended it over the phone.

Ms Burling, from Sydney, Australia, was recovering after the birth of little Nate, who was taken to intensive care, when she noticed a missed call from her partner.


Still healing after her C-section birth, Lisa walked to the shower room to phone him back.

But her world was turned upside down when he answered the phone.

She describes feeling like the universe "was playing a sick joke" on her when he delivered the news.

She told Kidspot: "I’ll never, ever forget that moment. In that shower room, in that hospital, on that day.

"After a few questions about how Nate was, he dropped a bomb on me.

"He was out – he was leaving me. It wasn’t working, he wasn’t happy and that was it. Done and dusted.

"I hung up, took a deep breath and I sobbed on the floor of a cold, impersonal hospital room for what was probably five minutes, but seemed to be hours. Was this all one sick joke?

"Now, I’m all up for change, but this was just too much. It was like the Universe was playing a sick joke on me.

"I kept hoping I’d wake up and see it was just a dream.

"A big, fat, ugly one, but nonetheless, a dream.

"But it was real life – it was MY real life – and the eternal optimist in me suddenly felt defeated.

"Have you ever had that feeling? It’s almost worse than what’s happening, knowing that your positive spirit has been beaten to the point where you can’t see anything good left.

"I knew nothing except this - I had to get real with myself and face the cold-hard facts.

"My old life wasn’t coming back, ever.

"I was, in this moment, nothing more than Lisa Burling, an unemployed, single mum of two little boys under the age of three."

She added: "I firmly decided that, instead of seeing this perceived utter catastrophe as a bad thing and an end, I should change the lens and view it as chance to start again.

Lisa set herself small targets and decided to "dream little dreams".

This led to her excelling personally and professionally and becoming an award-winning entrepreneur.

She even wrote her own book, Dream a Little Dream, which tells her life story.

She explained: "Fast forward to today, and I am an entrepreneur with an award-winning PR consultancy, LBPR.

"I’ve been awarded as a businesswoman in my own right and am a proud ambassador for the AusMumpreneur Network and Inspiring Rare Birds."

Quite Inappropriate! Toddler Who Lives, Eats & Sleeps With Crocodile Is Pictured [Video]

A toddler who sleeps, eats and plays with her pet crocodile has been filmed brushing the reptile's teeth.

Three-year-old Maharani has a love of animals and has become inseparable from the croc since her dad brought it home eight months ago.

Dad Syahrul Effendi spotted the reptile in a market when it was just 80cms long.

It had wounds all over its body and was unlikely to be sold.

Syahrul said: "I felt bad for the crocodile and wanted to save it.

"Its price was actually £39, but the seller accepted a barter with my £22 as I had bought birds at the same time.

He took the animal home in the city of Tangerang, Indonesia, and started caring for its wounds.

He introduced little Maharani, who was just two at the time, and the pair had an instant bond.

Maharani was seen sitting in a bath of water as she takes her time brushing the croc's teeth.

The tot can be seen putting toothpaste on the brush before scrubbing the animal's dangerous gnashers and appears completely unafraid.

Dad Syahrul added: "I still believe that the crocodile is a predatory animal, but I also get info that it can be domesticated.

"Months living together with it, they show that they love each other."

She is often seen playing with the animal, and it waits in the kitchen while she eats.

Maharani and the croc have also been known to fall asleep together, with the toddler refusing to stop hugging her friend.

Governor Wike Wins Rivers Governorship Election

Nyesom Wike has been declared by INEC as the winner of the Rivers Governorship Election.

Wike who ran under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), polled 886,264 votes to beat his closest opponent, Mr. Awara of the AAC.

The Returning officer, Professor Teddy Adias of the Niger Delta University Otuoke, Bayelsa state, made the declaration.

In breaking down the details of the poll, Professor Adias noted that the total registered Voters were 3048741.


He further informed that the total accredited votes were 1130445 and the total valid votes were 1102823.  The total votes cast were 1123840.

Professor Adias further noted that the total number of registered voters in places where elections did not hold is 249324.

Wike’s victory comes after very a very tense polling exercise in Rivers State, which recorded cases of violence and electoral anomalies that sought to mar the election.

El-Rufai's Convoy Foils Kidnapping On Kaduna-Abuja Road

The Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai’s convoy foiled attempted kidnapping of motorists again along Kaduna-Abuja road on Wednesday afternoon.

The Governor who was on his way to Abuja got to the Akilubu village around 3:40pm, sighted dozens of vehicles parked by citizens alarmed that kidnappers were ahead.

Security operatives in the governor’s convoy advanced and the criminals fled into the forest.

After clearing the road, Governor El-Rufai directed that travelers who had been wounded by the criminals be rushed to the nearest hospital. The Governor also directed security agencies to intensify patrols and permanently clear the road of the bandits.

Court Sacks Another Delta Senator, Nwaoboshi

The Federal High Court Abuja on Wednesday, sacked Sen. Peter Nwaoboshi, the senator-elect for Delta North Senatorial District. Justice Ahmed Mohammed gave the order while delivering judgment in a suit filed by Mr Ned Nwoko challenging the election of Nwaoboshi as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Oct. 2, 2018 primaries of the party held in Delta.

The court held that Nwaoboshi was not the duly elected PDP candidate in the primary election.

Justice Mohammed ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish the name of Nwoko as PDP candidate, having established before the court that he scored the highest number of votes in the said primary election.

The court also barred Nwaoboshi from parading himself as PDP candidate for the senatorial zone.

Nwoko through his counsel, Mr Ahmed Raji, SAN, had dragged INEC, the PDP and the Nwaoboshi to court praying for an order to prohibit the electoral body from publishing the name of Nwaoboshi as the candidate for Delta North Senatorial District.

He also asked for a separate order compelling PDP to forward his name to INEC as the authentic candidate of the PDP for the senatorial area.

In his suit predicated on seven grounds, 20 paragraphs affidavit evidence and five exhibits, Nwoko claimed that he was screened and cleared to contest the primary election by the PDP electoral committee.

He also claimed that at the end of the election, he scored 453 votes to beat Nwaoboshi to second position who scored 405 votes while another contestant, Paul Osaji came third with 216 votes.

Nwoko told the court that he was surprised that the PDP jettisoned the result of the primary and forwarded the name of Nwaobosi to INEC as its candidate for the senatorial district.

He further alleged that all efforts to redress the injustice through the PDP appeal panel proved abortive.

In their defence, the three respondents; INEC, PDP and Nwaoboshi urged the court to dismiss the suit on the grounds that it was not filed within time allowed by law, NAN reports.

They said that based on that ground, the suit was state barred and also constituted an abuse of court process, the plaintiff having filed a similar suit at the FCT High Court which was struck out upon its withdrawal.

Justice Mohammed after reviewing the claims and counter claims of parties, held that the case of the plaintiff was not status barred and did not also amounted to forum shopping as alleged by the defendants.

The judge held that Nwoko was entitled to his prayers having established that he emerged victorious in the PDP Delta North Senatorial primary election of Oct. 2, 2018.

FEC Approves New Employment Programme Targeting 60,000 Youth

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a new scheme that is targeted at creating employment for 60,000 Nigerians aged 18-25 years. This was announced Wednesday by the Minister of Budget and Planning, Udoma Udoma while briefing State House correspondents.

The new scheme is called the N-Power knowledge multi-track youth empowerment programme.

He said under the scheme, 12,000 unemployed or under-employed graduates aged 18-25 yrs will be trained and given relevant devices afterwards. He also said the training will be on mobile computing and commonly used electronic devices.

Mr Udoma said the programme, which will be run under the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP), is open to all unemployed graduates.

He also said after the training, each of the initial 12,000 selected and trained “will be empowered to train five other youth, leading to additional 60,000 jobs.”

He said the contract for the programme was awarded to Softcome Ltd working with officials of NSIP.

The minister also said the federal government will spend N259,000 per youth on the training while an additional 207,000 will be spent for work tools. He put the value of the programme at over N5bn with a completion period of nine months.

How Police Recover Dead Bodies In Room After Group S*x

The Police Command in Owerri, Imo State, said they have recovered two male corpses, Tramadol tablets and Indian hemp from the scene of what appeared to be a group s*x at a student lodge.

They also rescued two unconscious persons - a guy and a young lady - from the scene.

The two young men described as undergraduate students at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo State, collapsed and died allegedly while having group s*x with a female student, Police said.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, who confirmed the incident on Wednesday, said the students were suspected to have used s*x-enhancing drugs for the act.

The Police spokesperson who gave the names of the dead students as Ugochukwu and Uche (other names withheld), said the incident happened at Sunshine Lodge located at Ihiagwa, near FUTO.

According to him, the Policemen who evacuated the corpses and took two others to hospital also recovered substances suspected to be Indian hemp and Tramadol from the scene of the incident.

The Police spokesperson said, “On April 2, information was received from the caretaker of Sunshine Lodge in Ihiagwa, Owerri, that students at Federal University of Technology, Owerri — Ugochukwu, Richard, and Uche, 27 — were engaged in a [dangerous] s*x romp with one Onyinyechi (surname withheld), also a student at the same university.

“Police detectives from Nekede Division promptly mobilised to the scene and found the four individuals completely n*ked and unconscious. The Police operatives recovered substances suspected to be Indian hemp and Tramadol at the scene.

“The victims were immediately conveyed to the Police clinic and two of them, namely Ugochukwu and Uche were certified dead by the medical doctor on duty.

“The corpses have been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, for an autopsy, while Richard and Onyinyechi whose condition is yet to be stabilised, have been referred to the FMC Owerri for further medical attention.

“The families of the deceased have been contacted, while the condition of the surviving persons is still being closely monitored.”

Ikeokwu said that the state commissioner of Police frowns at drug abuse and other illicit acts by youths whose parents are working hard to ensure that their future is guaranteed.

When contacted, FUTO Public Relations Officer, Uche Nwelue, said that the varsity was aware of the incident but that it was still investigating to confirm if the victims were students at the institution.

The spokesperson said, “We are still investigating to ascertain if truly, they are students at FUTO.”

UAE Suspends 3-Month Tourist Visa To Nigerians

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has suspended issuance of three months visa to Nigerians. A travels and tours firm, Afric Holidays, announced this in a terse statement through its Instagram page today.

''Nigerian Passport holders are no longer eligible to 3mths UAE Tourist Visa. Nigerian Passport holders are now restricted to 1 Month, 96 hrs & 48 hours UAE Tourist Visas till further notice,'' the statement read.

The notice is coming two days after five Nigerians were arrested for robbing a Bureau de Change operator of Dh2.3 million (app. N225.4 million) in Sharjai, Dubai.

ASUU Resumes Indefinite Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University chapter, today, resumed indefinite strike to press home its demands.

The union had embarked on a strike in 2018 but suspended it when the Taraba government promised to meet its demands which included the payment of earned academic allowances from 2014 till date, and the provision of required infrastructure to enhance teaching and learning.

Dr Samuel Shikaa, the branch Chairman, and Dr Atando Agbu, the Secretary, in a statement shortly after the Executive Council Meeting with the national officials in Jalingo, said that the teachers would remain at home until the demands were met.

The union said that the law establishing the university, which specified adequate funding for the institution, had been abandoned by the state government, NAN reports.

Algeria's President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has resigned with immediate effect, according to state media, ceding power in the face of massive street protests against his 20-year rule.

The ailing, 82-year-old leader announced he was stepping down in a letter published by APS news agency on Tuesday, just hours after the army chief demanded immediate action to remove him from office.

"My intention ... is to contribute to calming down the souls and minds of the citizens so that they can collectively take Algeria to the better future they aspire to," Bouteflika said in the letter to the president of the Constitutional Council.


"I have made this decision to avoid and prevent the arguments which distort, unfortunately, the current situation, and avoid its turning into serious skirmishes, to ensure the protection of persons and property," he added.

The announcement prompted celebrations in Algeria's capital, Algiers, with hundreds of people singing songs and waving flags in front of the city's central post office.

"This is a victory for my country," said 25-year-old Kamel, who only gave his first name. "We now want the rest of the old guard to leave, we also want the corrupt businessmen to be judged. We have won one political battle, not yet the war."
