Africa's richest man Aliko Dangote, as ranked by Forbes, celebrates his 62nd birthday today and here are some facts according to The Nation you might not have known about the business mogul.

1. Aliko Dangote has survived three plane crashes in his lifetime.

One was in London in 1983, which left the pilot dead and co-pilot paralysed. He survived another crash in 1996 that killed his brother and another in Angola in 2008.

2. He was exposed to the entrepreneurial spirit at a young age. From as early as when he was in primary school, he would bring a carton of sweets to sell to his peers for profit making.

3. He fell in love and proposed to the woman of his dreams, Nafisat Yar’Adua (daughter of late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua) but was turned down.

4. Dangote declared in an interview in 2010 that he had intentions of buying Arsenal club in 2020.

Most Wanted Armed Robber/Kidnapper Busted After 4 Years

Shehu Usman, a daredevil armed robber and kidnapper wanted by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has been arrested in Ondo State, SR can report. The criminal, who had been on 'watchlist' of security  for a long time, was nabbed by crack of detectives from Ondo State Police Command, Akure.

The 30-year-old Usman was paraded on Wednesday before journalists in Akure, the capital city.

He was nabbed alongside members of his robbery and kidnap gang at a hideout in Edo State fours year after he had been declared wanted.

Usman belonged to a six-man gang of armed robbers and kidnappers networking between Kogi, Ondo and Edo states.

SR gathered that the notorious kingpin with members of his gang always terrorised travellers on Auga (Ondo), Kabba (Kogi) and Ibilo (Edo) area of the three states.

The other members of the gang are 19-year-old Ismaila Wakili, 33-year-old Abdullahi Sanni, 36-year-old Muhammed Abdullahi with 25-year-old Umoru Usman.

Both Usman and Ismaila Wakili are the two most dreaded members of the gang and always negotiate with other robbery and kidnap syndicates for information even on the Benin-Ore axis of Edo and Ondo borders.

The six-man gang had sent many of their victims to their early grave and also left many family members with a tale of tears, sorrow and blood.

Although, a police source told our correspondent that the 'ring leader' of the gang is currently on the run, he expressed optimism that he would soon be arrested, paraded and prosecuted.

While speaking on the arrest of the gang, Undie Adie, Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, said his men apprehended Usman and his group at their hideout in Edo State.

Adie explained that the gang had been terrorising motorists on the roads by robbing and kidnapping their victims for heavy ransom.

He said the last straw that finally broke the camel's back was when they abducted one Prince Omoghae Igbegbon of A3 Senior Staff Quarters, Nifor, in Edo State, on Akunnu/Auga Akoko Road in Ondo State.

"The hoodlums robbed Igbegbon of a cash in sum of N180,000 and also abducted him to the bush," he said.

"The abductors later demanded sum of N30million as ransom for his release. On April 3rd 2019, a team of policemen with some members of the vigilante group trailed the kidnappers to their den in Ibilo in Edo State.

"After an exchange of gunfire, these kidnappers fled to an unknown area and destination while the victim too escaped to a community in Ibilo. The Police placed the communities on red alert to watch out for strange face. Thereafter, one Ismaila Wakili from Niger state was arrested.

"The victim was able to recognise Wakili's face as part of those who robbed and kidnapped him, so he was handed over to the Police. Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and mentioned other members of his gang. He later led a team of detectives to the hideout of the hoodlums at the Aduwawa area of Benin City in Edo State where members of the gang were arrested."

Adie, however, mentioned some of the weapons seen with the gang to be one pump action, a double barrel and two single barrel guns including charms noting that they would be arraigned in court soon.

Confessing to the crime, Usman and Wakili said they always pretended as labourers to get information about their victims.

Both men claimed that, though, they had not been making big money in the kidnap business, they had been terrorizing people on major roads of the three states.

Nigerian popular female pastor and philanthropist, Prophetess Nonnie Roberson is dead. It was gathered that the cleric died Wednesday morning after complaining of abdominal pain.

Confirming the death, one of her associates, Elder Theophilus said Nonnie passed away in the early hours of Wednesday at Nizamiye Hospital. “She died of abdominal pains which she complained of on Sunday,” he added.

Nonnie Roberson is a seasoned midwife, seer and prophetess. She is married with four biological children and numerous spiritual children.

Faces Of Kidnappers Who Abduct Lagos Fire Service Boss

Two members of the gang that kidnapped Lagos State Fire Service boss, Rasaki Musibau and six others have been nabbed. They were arrested in an operation led by the Lagos Polie Command’s tactical teams led by the Officer-in-charge of anti-kidnapping unit, SP Bulus R Musa, according to a statement by Lagos State Police spokesman, Bala Elkana.

Musibau was kidnapped on Saturday at Ejirin, along the Epe-Itoikin road, Ikorodu. The suspects were arrested on Wednesday around 5:30am.

Elkana said: “Blessing Bayo ‘m’ 29yrs and Smart Alfred ‘m’ 32yrs all of Arogbo, Ondo State were arrested at Ibafun along Ikorodu-Ijebu Ode Express way, a boundary community with Ogun State and they all confessed to the commission of the crime.

“Two single barrel guns were recovered from them. Investigation is ongoing, efforts are emplaced to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.”

Amosun Working To Install Ndume As Senate President?

Outgoing governors of Ogun and Borno states, Ibukunle Amosun and Kashim Shettima, both senators-elect had long conversation on Tuesday during the orientation programme for new lawmakers.

Now a lot of insinuations are playing up over their long meeting.

Amosun has issues with APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole and National Leader, Bola Tinubu. He had refused to comment on insinuations that serving and former governors were plotting to install the 9th Senate President. His meeting with Shettima on Tuesday might be related with decision of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to adopt a candidate for the position.

Their body language when they saw an aspirant to the position, Senator Ali Ndume, also fuelled the suspicion as the two governors also engaged the former senate leader in a brief discussion.

Italian Man Murders Nigerian Prostitute For Not Sexually Satisfying Him

Leopoldo Scalici, 41, an Italian man has been arrested for allegedly murdering a Nigerian prostitute, identified as Benedicta and dumping her body in a ditch.

According to Italian website, Modena Today, Scalici approached Benedicta on the streets of Modena Nord for sex over the weekend.

Benedicta was reportedly killed after the duo had had sexual intercourse and an argument had broken out, which led to Scalici hitting the Nigerian prostitute with a heavy object on the face and head.


It was however speculated that Scalici hit Benedicta because he wasn’t satisfied sexually.

Italian police have detained Scalici, after he voluntarily confessed to the crime. An autopsy has been scheduled as well.

Nipsey Hussle Death Certificate Reveals He Died 35 Minutes After Shooting

Nipsey Hussle's death certificate has been released with his cause of death as gunshot wounds to the head and torso. It also revealed the rapper was pronounced dead 35 minutes after the shooting outside his store.


Nipsey's death certificate -- obtained by TMZ -- lists his occupation as an artist and entrepreneur.
It says he was never married at the time of his death and worked in the entertainment and real estate industries. Nipsey was pronounced dead at 3:55 PM on March 31.

Nipsey was shot in plain view of a surveillance camera, and footage shows the shooter -- who cops believe to be Eric Holder -- opening fire 3 different times on Nipsey before kicking his body and fleeing the scene. Two other people were shot, but survived.


Nipsey's brutal murder has sent shock waves throughout Los Angeles and beyond, with celebs and sports stars paying tribute to the slain rapper in many different ways.
Candlelight vigils are being held across the globe and a massive memorial service will be held at Staples Center Thursday.

Nipsey will be buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

He was just 33.

3 Dead, Many Injured As Fire Rips Through Thailand Hotel This Afternoon

Three people are dead after flames ripped through a hotel tower, forcing some victims to leap from windows in a desperate bid to escape the inferno.

At least two people jumped as the fire spread through the hotel attached to Bangkok's CentralWorld, one of the world's biggest shopping centres, according to reports.

Seven people were injured.

There were claims that some of the fire exits were locked as people tried to flee the comple.


A massive cloud of black smoke billowed into the sky after the inferno started on the eighth floor of the hotel, which is popular with tourists.

There were scenes of panic as thousands of people were evacuated from the complex in Bangkok’s central shopping district as fire crews tries to tackle the blaze.

Police say the fire broke out in a storage room filled with paper.

South African Triple Platinum Selling Artist Arrested For Robbery

A South African triple Platinum selling artist, Nathi Mankayi has appeared at the Alex Magistrate court today following his arrest on Monday on robbery allegations.

Mankayi had allegedly committed a robbery with two of his friends last year at the offices of  China Mpololo.

According to SowetanLive, the station's spokesperson, Capt Molefe Mogodi confirmed that Mankayi appeared in court in connection with business robbery.

The trio apparently went to Mpololo's offices where they allegedly took laptops, landline phones, printers and cellphones.


“Sources” told The Sowetan that issues started when Mankayi’s manager cut ties with him and the decision did not sit well with the award-winning artist.

He allegedly took his friends with him to his former boss’ offices “to teach him a lesson” and allegedly took laptops, landline phones, printers, and cellphones.

The items were recovered by police and given back to the owner.

Worthy of note: Before his fame, he was arrested following a robbery and served time before he was released for good behaviour.

The light is brighter than all the billions of other stars in the galaxy combined - which is why it can be seen at such distance from Earth.

First Ever Black Hole Image Released

Astronomers have taken the first ever image of a black hole, which is located in a distant galaxy.

It measures 40 billion km across - three million times the size of the Earth and has been described by scientists as "a monster".

The black hole is 500 million trillion km away and was photographed by a network of eight telescopes across the world.

Details were today published in Astrophysical Journal Letters. Prof Heino Falcke, of Radboud University in the Netherlands, who proposed the experiment, told BBC News that the black hole was found in a galaxy called M87.


"What we see is larger than the size of our entire Solar System," he said.

"It has a mass 6.5 billion times that of the Sun. And it is one of the heaviest black holes that we think exists. It is an absolute monster, the heavyweight champion of black holes in the Universe," he said.

Lagos Fire Service Staff Celebrating Release Of Their Boss From Kidnappers (Photos)
