I’m not a lesbian – Actress Bukunmi Oluwashina cries out

Award-winning actress, Bukunmi Oluwashina has debunked the rumours that she is a lesbian.

According to the Nollywood thespian, she said even though she dresses like a Tomboy she is not in any way a lesbian and that she has numerous boyfriends.

The actress who recently became a producer cum director after she worked on her personal project titled “Traffic”, made the statement in a chat with newsmen.

She said, “Tomboy does not mean you are a lesbian, as a matter of fact, I don’t get to keep girlfriends (Female friends) closer like I do keep my boyfriends. The closest people around me are all guys, plenty. And all we do is to discuss business not prick (Laughs). Productive conversation is the only thing that can get me addicted to someone. I’m not that romantic like people think. I’m a freaking introvert”.

“But When its time for you all to meet my man, when he shows up, you probably see him. Not promising though because I love a private life. I always don’t like talking about or posting the most beautiful part of my life on the media, because people ruin beautiful things. I kinda have anthropophobia. But God would help me when that time comes sha. The most important thing now is hustle”, she added.

Wale Adenuga makes shocking revelations about Nollywood

Veteran movie producer, Wale Adenuga has disclosed that most Nigerian actors are poor and are suffering needlessly, calling for a reform of the nation’s movie industry.

The movie entrepreneur also noted that other actors who are living large are getting by through the support of wealthy sugar daddies and sugar mummies.

According to him, the lack of structure in the industry has led to the rise of cabals who are against any meaningful change in the industry.

According to Punch, Adenuga spoke at the launch of his PEFTI Film Institute in Ibadan during the week.

He said he created the institute for training of actors, producers, and the likes, saying it is not a film theatre.

“If things are not checked, there are disasters ahead. The cinemas that we have are too elitist in outlook and the common man cannot afford the luxury. What we need are community cinema houses where people can pay as low as N500.

“If Nollywood is well structured, there would be pension and health insurance schemes to the advantage of practitioners but that is not the case at the moment. What we have are self creations and growth of cabals.

“When there is no structure, there would be cabals. That is why there is a high prevalence of abuse in the industry. PEFTI has come to Ibadan to liberate potential female actresses. As a student with PEFTI, you can feature in our films. Every production house has formed a cabal but PEFTI is a platform where budding talents can express themselves and get exposed.

“A lot is going on in Nollywood and this is encouraged by lack of structure. Nollywood is the only industry that has no united front. In Nollywood, it is an all-comers affair. Anybody can become a director. There are no ethics and no professionalism. I can say that 90 percent of the popular artistes in the industry do not belong to any association.

“I can name actors that died without proper care. Our members are too proud whereas all is not well with Nollywood. We just grandstand and create the wrong impression. It is only the men that are painting the real picture in Nollywood and it is the picture of poverty. People who are enjoying the muddy water of the Nollywood will not want things to be reformed. Many of them lift themselves by using sugar daddies and sugar mummies,” Adenuga said.

Italy allowing coronavirus patients above 60 to die

An Israeli doctor working in the coronavirus epicentre of northern Italy said medics are no longer allowed to give respirators to anyone aged over 60.

Dr Gal Peleg - who works in Parma, Italy - said artificial respiratory machines are so low in numbers access must be limited.

The coronavirus death toll in Italy's worst-hit region has surpassed 3,450 in the last 24 hours after a rise of 360 fatalities in Lombardy.

Dr Peleg said his department makes sure terminally-ill coronavirus patients can say goodbye to their loved ones despite strict quarantine rules, N12 reports.

Ministers in Rome were forced to plunge all 60million citizens into lockdown, while ordering all non-essential businesses in the country to shut amid the outbreak.

The pandemic has taken a choke-hold on everyday life, with even Pope Francis retreating indoors to make his weekly address via videolink.

But despite Italy's clampdown on person-to-person contact, the death toll spiralled yesterday from 739 to 4,825 nationwide, marking the deadliest day for a country in the global pandemic so far.

Idris Elba's wife also tests positive for coronavirus

Days after actor Idris Elba revealed he had the coronavirus, his wife now says she too has tested positive.

Model/actress Sabrina Dhowre Elba shared her diagnosis with Oprah Winfrey Saturday during a Facetime on Winfrey's "Oprah Talks COVID-19," Apple TV+ series.

Dhowre Elba was joined by her husband as the two of them remain quarantined together.

She said she had just found out that morning that she had tested positive.

Dhowre Elba wasn't surprised, she said, because she was already in route to be with her husband when he was awaiting his test results and rushed to be by his side.

"I wanted to be with him," she said. "That's the instinct of a wife. You want to go and take care."

Like her husband, Dhowre Elba said she felt fine, stating, "I don't feel anything that would come to what people would now expect to be a symptom of coronavirus, which is really strange."

"It might change in the coming weeks, and we'll keep everyone updated," she said. "But it is worrisome that we're sitting here, two people, and ... we're asymptomatic."

Coronavirus: God told me the world would go on compulsory holiday – Adeboye

General Superintendent, Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye has said God told him that the world would go on compulsory holiday in view of the raging Coronavirus pandemic.

Adeboye, who spoke during his sermon on Sunday said at the beginning of the year, “I told you that God told me that the earth would behave like a child having convulsions. There was something extra He said that I didn’t share.

“He told me that this year, the whole world will go on a compulsory holiday. The last time the world came close to this was 9/11. I thought it was going to repeat itself. I kept my mouth shut because I didn’t want to be seen as having info I didn’t share.”

According to Adeboye, “Daddy wants to show the world that He’s still the One on the throne. As soon as He shows to the world that He can shut down the whole world, He will remove the plague. How long that will take, I cannot tell you.

“So my children, enjoy this public holiday that God has given you. You may ask, why would God allow sickness? Is the devil not the author of evil? Yes he is, but God controls the devil. Someone did a research and found out that the number of people that have died from malaria is more than 5 times the number of those who have died from Corona virus.

“The reason why it is out there is because it is a noisy pestilence. When God is done with what He wants to do, the plague will subside, but it will not totally go. Maintain strict hygiene even beyond COVID-19.”

Adeboye said the governments had tried within human ability, saying that the Lord God Almighty would bless them all, adding that the compulsory holiday had already started in the major nations of the world, especially those who boasted in what they could do.

“Don’t be surprised at those who are mocking prayers; just pray for them because they’re mocking the One who answers prayers. Don’t get angry at them, just pray for them. 1. Psalm 91:1 There is someone called the Most High. Isaiah 66:1 If there is anyone who thinks he is high, God is higher than such. Ecclesiastes 5:8, Ephesians 1:18-22,” he added.

Iran rejects Trump’s virus aid offer as toll jumps to 1685

Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei on Sunday said his country would never accept any aid to fight the novel coronavirus from arch-enemy and “charlatans” the United States, as Tehran announced 129 new deaths.

Speaking in a televised address, Khameini charged in a message directed at Washington: “No one trusts you. You are capable of bringing into our country a drug that will keep the virus alive and prevent its eradication.”

Iran has been one of the countries worst hit by the COVID-19 illness along with Italy, Spain and China, and the latest fatalities raised the official death toll to 1,685, the health ministry said.

More than 1,028 new cases in the past 24 hours meant a total of 21,638 people had now tested positive for the virus, said ministry spokesman Kianouche Jahanpour.

US President Donald Trump — who has imposed sanctions and a “maximum pressure” campaign on Tehran over its nuclear programme — said on February 29 that Washington was ready to help Iran fight the virus if its leaders requested it.

But Khamenei reiterated Iran’s rejection, charging that Washington, which whom it has had no diplomatic relations for more than 40 years, was “capable” of wanting to intensify the epidemic in the Islamic republic.

“Today America is our most ferocious and vicious enemy,” Khamenei said in his address to the nation.

“The American leaders are liars, manipulators, impudent and greedy … They are charlatans,” he said, also labelling them “absolutely ruthless” and “terrorists”.

The American proposals “to help us with medicines and treatments, provided we ask for them, are strange”, he said, noting that the United States itself suffers from “a horrible shortage not only of disease prevention equipment but also of medicines”.

Speaking to Washington, he added: “If you have something, use it for yourself.”

Khamenei advised Iranians that “everyone should follow the instructions” of the authorities to fight the epidemic “so that Almighty God will put an end to this calamity for the Iranian people, for all Muslim nations and for all mankind”.

The ministry’s Jahanpour said Tehran province had reported 249 new cases and the central province of Yazd, where 84 new patients had been counted, “could become a new focus of the disease in the coming days”.

To limit the spread of the virus, the authorities have asked people to refrain from travelling during the current Persian New Year celebrations.

In Iran “about 68 percent of deaths from COVID-19 disease are people over 60 years of age”, Jahanpour said, stressing that family trips “are generally risk factors for this age group”.

Coronavirus is 'spreading through petrol pumps' as motorists told to wear gloves

The coronavirus could be spreading through petrol pumps, according to reported claims by a senior nurse, Daily Star reports.

It is claimed the medic, understood to be from Queen Elizabeth Hospital, urged motorists to start wearing gloves.

It comes as COVID-19 continues to wreak havoc around the world since it broke out in Wuhan, China, at the end of last year.

A reporter from the Daily Mail tweeted: "A senior nurse at the Queen Elizabeth believes the virus is spreading rapidly through people using petrol pumps.

"She asks that if you need to fill your car up use gloves or a paper towel and then bin them. Please pass this on."

The NHS has not specifically warned people about using petrol pumps, and it is not yet known how long the disease would last on such a surface.

Cuba’s Interferon drug effective against coronavirus

Helen Yaffe, a specialist in Cuban and Latin American development at the University of Glasgow has testified that Cuba’s Interferon Alfa-2B, is now being used to combat the effects of COVID-19. It was used in China, she wrote in a blog published by the London School of Economics on 18 March.

Yaffe said Cuba was able to develop the drug because of its early entry into the biotech industry, which allowed it to harness international expertise and develop medicines to fight dengue fever and meningitis.

COVID-19 emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in late December 2019, and by January 2020 it had hit Hubei province like a tidal wave, swirling over China and rippling out overseas.

The Chinese state rolled into action to combat its spread and care for those infected. Amongst the 30 medicines chosen by the Chinese National Health Commission to fight the virus was a Cuban anti-viral drug called Interferon Alfa-2B, which has been produced in China by the Cuban-Chinese joint venture ChangHeber since 2003.

Cuban Interferon Alfa-2B has proven effective for viruses with characteristics similar to those of COVID-19. Cuban biotech specialist Dr Luis Herrera Martínez explains that “its use prevents aggravation and complications in patients, reaching that stage that can ultimately result in death.”

Cuba first developed and used interferons to arrest a deadly outbreak of the dengue virus in 1981, and that experience catalysed the development of the island’s nowworld-leading biotech industry.

The world’s first biotechnology enterprise, Genetech, was founded in San Francisco in 1976, followed by AMGen in Los Angeles in 1980. One year later, the Biological Front, a professional interdisciplinary forum, was set up to develop the industry in Cuba.

While most developing countries had little access to new technologies (recombinant DNA, human gene therapy, biosafety), Cuban biotechnology expanded and took on an increasingly strategic role in both the public-health sector and the national economic development plan. And this despite the US blockade, which obstructed access to technologies, equipment, materials, finance, and even knowledge exchange. Driven by public-health demand, it has been characterised by its fast track from research and innovation to trials and application, as the story of Cuban interferon shows.

Ex-Manchester United star Fellaini contacts coronavirus

Marouane Fellaini has tested positive for the coronavirus, his club Shandong Luneng said Sunday, the former Manchester United player becoming the first known case in the Chinese Super League (CSL).

The 32-year-old Belgian international midfielder has a normal temperature and is feeling fine, Shandong said, but “is under observation and having treatment at a designated medical facility.”

“The club will do its best… to help in the treatment and recovery of the player.”

Fellaini is just the latest high-profile name in football to catch the disease, joining the likes of Juventus forward Paulo Dybala, Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

But he is the first confirmed case in the CSL, dealing a blow to the league’s hopes of starting the season as early as next month.

The campaign was supposed to begin last month but has been indefinitely postponed by the outbreak.

Fellaini, also formerly of Everton, joined Shandong Luneng from English giants United in February last year for a reported 7.2 million euros.

On Saturday, the Chinese Football Association said that the country’s best-known player, forward Wu Lei, had also tested positive for the coronavirus.

Wu, who plays for Spanish strugglers Espanyol, is in self-isolation at home in Barcelona and has only mild symptoms.

The coronavirus emerged in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in December and has since spread across the world and become a pandemic, killing 13,000 people and infecting more than 30,000

Government to deal with Pastor who told his congregation there's no coronavirus in Nigeria (video)

The Chief Press Secretary to the Lagos state Government, Gboyega Akosile has informed Lagosians this morning that the Government is on the case of a Pastor who calls himself 'Talknado' for convincing his congregation that there's no coronavirus in Nigeria, as they echoed yes and clapped in accordance.

In the video, the Pastor was heard saying, if coronavirus enters Nigeria, it will end here.

He also claims the Government lied about an Italian bringing the deadly bug to the country, asking where the man is. He then confidently said, the world should hear him well, that if the virus finds its way to Nigeria, it will die and that's how it will end in the world.

Gboyega shared the video and promised the pastor will be dealt with according to the law of the country.

''Take time to watch this character, one of the religious merchants below as he denies #CoronavirusPandemic in his church this morning. He calls himself talknado. Well Govt is on his trail. We will deal with him in accordance with the Law,'' Gboyega tweeted.

Man who impregnated 15-year-old daughter could be banished from Nasarawa community (photo)

Wonders, they say, shall never end. This is the scenario currently playing out in Wuyeya, a village under Assakio, Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, where a 48-year-old farmer and petty trader, Theddius Audu has impregnated his 15-year-old daughter.

Whereas one would have thought that such obnoxious occurrences happen only in Nollywood movies, considering the tenacity with which Nigeria upholds tradition, culture and religion, Audu seemingly threw every sense of decency and morality to the dustbin, when he s.e.xually abused his biological daughter without recourse to the emotional and psychological effect of the incestuous act.

The incident has literally left every jaw in the village and environs dropping in disgust.

Years back, Audu had been married to Talatu Ayi from Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of the state; the marriage was blessed with a daughter, Justina, before they both went their separate ways due to irreconcilable differences. Audu was therefore left to stay alone with his only daughter, then just a year and seven months old.

Subsequently, he took up the challenge of raising his little baby albeit under a very poor condition, since he was just a peasant farmer and petty trader. He was however able to do this, more, with the assistance of his younger sister, Agnes.

The departure of Audu’s wife 13 years ago under controversial circumstances made him vow not to get married again. However, his younger sister who helped in raising the little girl, died in a tragic accident in January 2019 on her way back from Lafia market, where she had gone to buy some goods for her elder brother.

The good news was that the little Justina had become a grown up girl.

Audu, who is the only son in the family of two, had lost his parents 21 years ago and was left with his sister Agnes, who played the role of a mother in the house, until her demise.

Left alone with his daughter, Audu decided to relocate to a three-bedroom apartment he had managed to build in the village, so his daughter could live comfortably in safety, without any fear.

It is therefore horrifying to see that good intention boomerang, as Justina is now four months gone for her father.

When The Nation visited the area, following a tip-off from a source in the village, Justina was lounging at the frontage of her father’s house. Before she could say a word, tears flowed down her eyes uncontrollably. “God has inflicted a permanent wound on me; there is absolutely no point keeping me alive. I think I should just commit suicide and die, rather than continue living to bear this shameful burden. God has not been fair to me and I don’t know my sin or offence. My mother left me when I was barely two years old; and up till now, hasn’t taken as much as a second look back. My late aunty Agnes, who brought me up died, recently and now I’m pregnant for my father. What could be worse than that,” she asked bursting into tears.

Wiping away tears, she said, “When my aunty died in an accident, my father moved me into his three bedroom apartment to occupy one of the rooms. He used to check my private part to see if I had started menstruating or having s.e.x with boys. One night, I was sleeping after a hectic day; he came into my room, removed my wrapper and inserted his finger in to my private part, asking if I had started menstruating. I woke up suddenly from sleep and asked, “Daddy why are you doing this to me?”

“He asked if I had had s.e.x before and I said no. He then said he would use his p.e.n.i.s to test my virginity. Before I could utter any word, he had climbed on top of me. I wanted to scream, but he held my mouth and penetrated into me. I struggled to wriggle free but he over-powered me and forcefully deflowered me. I bled throughout  that night, crying uncontrollably till the following day. I was also in pains throughout.

“I felt very bad but he warned me that nobody must hear of what he did to me. He also threatened to slaughter me with a knife if he heard it from anybody. That was how he kept sleeping with me at night and eventually got me pregnant.”

Continuing her lamentation, she said, “How I wish my mother were around; this shameful thing would not have happened to me. It is incredible; my world and life has crumbled. How can I have a child for my father?” Again, she burst into tears.

She said her woes started way back when her aunty died. From that incident on, she said it was clear to her that her world had come to an end. “The days that followed her death were both utterly full and completely empty; full of activities, yet empty of life because there was nobody to take care of me and guide me properly.

“Her absence gave my father the opportunity to ruin my life. I feel very ashamed that I’m pregnant without getting married and more ashamed that my own biological father is responsible. Now I think about death frequently because my father decided that I should leave the pregnancy and deliver a male child for him.”

She said her father has even threatened to kill her if she tried aborting the pregnancy. “So I don’t have any choice but to allow it grow; meanwhile, the pregnancy is just four months.”

I couldn’t stand another man reaping from where I sowed – father

Following several efforts to get the side of Mr Theddus Audu, The Nation finally caught up with the man in the middle of the controversy in an undercover effort.

Audu said, “She looks beautiful and I always feel the pains that one day, someone else will toast her and start enjoying what I suffered all these years to raise. When her mother left me, I took the pains to bring her up because I could not get married and was alone.

“It started like a joke. I don’t know what came over me; she tried to resist me but I was very harsh on her and she allowed me have my way. Thereafter, we continued unabated. I actually wanted to test her virginity status, to know whether she had started going out with boys but when she told me she missed her period, I decided that she should not abort it. She should deliver the baby for me since I don’t have any other child. Thereafter, she can get married to anybody of her choice. This was the secret arrangement we had and I don’t know why she is exposing it now.

“That is the much I can say about it,” Audu said with finality.

Mr Abraham Dabu, one of the elders of the community told said what has happened is a taboo. He said going by the culture of the people, Audu may be banished from the village.
