Canadian Announce Plans To Welcome One Million New Permanent Residents
Canada welcomed more than 286,000 permanent residents in 2017 and projects that number could reach 350,000 this year. And 360,000 in 2020. And 370,000 in 2021.
"Thanks in great part to the newcomers we have welcomed throughout our history, Canada has developed into the strong and vibrant country we all enjoy," said Ahmed Hussen, Canada's minister
of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (IRCC).
Hussen, himself an immigrant from Somalia, said the influx will help offset Canada's aging population and declining birth rate while growing its labor force.
Canada's friendly stance towards new residents comes as many other Western nations, including the United States, are adopting more restrictive immigration policies.

Millions Are At Risk Of An Early Death Because They Do Not Eat Enough Fibre, Major Study Warns
A review commissioned by the World Health Organisation found that people who get plenty of fibre in their diet cut their risk of early mortality by up to a third.
They also cut their risk of a heart attack, stroke, type two diabetes or bowel cancer by up to a quarter.
Yet the vast majority of adults in Britain around 91 per cent eat less than the recommended daily amount. Similar figures exist in the US and some other parts of the world.
The findings are a blow for trendy low-carb diets, which have boomed in popularity in recent years and have also driven down fibre intake.
Fibre - sometimes referred to as 'roughage' is vital for digestion and helps keep people feeling fuller for longer.
It is found in high levels in fruit, vegetables, and cereals, as well as bread and pasta made with wholegrain and wholewheat.
But the rise of processed food which often cuts out much of the fibre in raw ingredients has meant people often get too little of these ingredients.
Researcher Professor John Cummings, of the University of Dundee, said the new review published in the Lancet medical journal will have a major impact.
'This is a defining moment in the fibre story,' he said.
'The work that we have done means we have enough evidence from population studies, human experimental work and the biochemistry and physiological of fibre to be confident of the clear benefits to health.
His team combined the results of more than 230 previous studies, involving 215,000 people.

Police Beg The Public Not To Approach Missing 12-Year-Old Boy Who Vanished Before Christmas
Alfie, who has been missing since before Christmas, was 'seen within the last week' in the Parrs Wood area of Didsbury, where he is known to visit local shops.
GMP added that he is known to frequent Parrs Wood Rd, Parkville Rd, Wilmslow Rd and Parsonage Rd.
The website Missing People says Alfie has been missing since December 19 and was last seen in Coniston, Cumbria. He also has links to Blackpool, Manchester and Clitheroe.
A police Facebook appeal, which has since been deleted, said: 'Please do not approach this male and if seen call 999.
'Have you seen this male? Missing Person Alfie BENSON 12yrs seen within the last week around the Parrs Wood area.
'He is known to frequent Parrs Wood Road, Parkville Road, Wilmslow Road and Parsonage Road, especially the shops in this area.
It's unclear why the appeal was later taken down.

Fellow weather presenter Simon King choked back tears on BBC Radio 5 Live this morning and said: 'It's devastating, absolutely devastating. It has been such a quick process, this whole thing. It has hit us like a ton of bricks'.
Dianne was also famously adored by comedian Peter Kay, who once crawled on his hands and knees to get close to her as she gave a forecast on live TV.
Hugging her he then declared: 'God love Dianne Oxberry. You made it sunshine for everyone'.
Ms Oxberry lived in Manchester with her husband Ian Hindle, a cameraman, and their two young children, and said today: 'Dianne was an amazing wife and mother who embraced life to the full. The children and I will miss her more than anyone can imagine.

First Pregnant Man Introduces His Baby Girl
Hayden, 22, who was born Paige, paused his transition from female to male after the NHS would not freeze his eggs.
He decided to have a baby and became the first man ever to be pregnant, giving birth to Trinity-Leigh last year.
But he revealed to ITV's Lorraine Kelly that it was a thoroughly difficult process both physically and mentally, and he would not advise others to do the same, especially without support.
He told Lorraine: "I didn’t think I was ready at the time, 100%, but now everything’s just went to plan and fell into place and we're getting on great.
"It's not something I wanted to go through - it was really strange... I wouldn’t advise anyone to do it because it was really hard.
"At first it was a new thing but now there’s a lot of support out there and now the NHS support people with this."
But despite a difficult time, he struggled with the idea of giving birth, and instead chose to have a C-section.
He continued: "I needed to have it as well but it was pretty straight forward if I’m honest."
Hayden also had support from his mum, who was going through pregnancy at the same time as him, meaning his younger brother and daughter were born just two days apart.
He said their relationship is "stronger now" after pregnancy, but he is still awaiting to have his bottom surgery after having his breasts removed last May.
Hayden now hopes to start a business after going back to work, now that Trinity-Leigh is in nursery.
Sadly, Trinity-Leigh didn't take too much to the studio and cried a great deal, and was eventually removed from the stage and held by one of Hayden's mates.

People Over 65 Share Fake News Stories On Facebook More Than Any Other Age Group- Study
On average, those Facebook users shared nearly seven times as many articles from fake news domains as the youngest age group, according to a study published Wednesday in Science Advances, a peer-reviewed journal.
Conservatives were more likely to share stories from fake news domains, the study said, with a pro-Donald Trump orientation in 2016. Still, it found that even controlling for the effect of ideology, partisanship, education and the number of web links shared, older folks were more likely to share fake news than younger people.
"No other demographic characteristic seems to have a consistent effect on sharing fake news, making our age finding that much more notable," authors Andrew Guess, Jonathan Nagler and Joshua Tucker wrote.
The study relied on users' Facebook sharing history instead of asking them to self-report that history. Using online polling firm YouGov, it asked respondents to provide access to parts of their Facebook profiles, including timeline posts and external links.

Police Demand DNA Test In Rape Case Against Cristiano Ronaldo In US
Police in Las Vegas have issued a warrant for a DNA sample from Cristiano Ronaldo as part of their investigation into the rape allegations made against the Juventus forward.
The 33-year-old's lawyer, Peter S. Christiansen, told BBC Sport it was a "very standard request".
The warrant was recently sent to the court system in Italy.
"Mr Ronaldo has always maintained, as he does today, that what occurred in Las Vegas in 2009 was consensual in nature, so it is not surprising that DNA would be present, nor that the police would make this very standard request as part of their investigation," said Christiansen's statement.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said it was "taking the same steps in this case as in any other s-xual assault to facilitate the collection of DNA evidence".
The LVMPD added: "We can confirm that an official request has been submitted to Italian authorities.
"Due to this being an ongoing investigation, we have no additional information or comment on this case at this time."
Der Spiegel said that in 2010, she reportedly reached an out-of-court settlement with Ronaldo involving a $375,000 (£288,000) payment for agreeing never to go public with the allegations.
Her lawyers are now seeking to declare the non-disclosure agreement void.
Ronaldo's lawyer has previously said his client does not deny entering an agreement but that "the reasons that led him to do so are at least to be distorted".
He added: "This agreement is by no means a confession of guilt."

The Enquirer claims that Bezos only announced his divorce on Wednesday morning because he knew it was about to expose his affair with Sanchez.
The magazine also alleges that he tried desperately to stop it from running its series of photographs which document their affair, apparently asking one friend: 'Can't I buy the story from them?'

Knowles told the outlet in detail about the environment in which R. Kelly immersed himself as he worked.

Andy Murray Announces Retirement In Tear-Jerking Press Conference
Murray said that his decision to end his playing career this year had come during his off-season training in December.
“I spoke to my team, and I told them, ‘I cannot keep doing this,’” Murray said in an emotional news conference in Melbourne. “I needed to have an end point because I was sort of playing with no idea when the pain was going to stop. I felt like making that decision.
“I said to my team, ‘Look, I think I can get through this until Wimbledon.’ That’s where I would like to stop playing. But I am also not certain I am able to do that.”
Murray, 31, became the first British male singles champion at a Grand Slam tournament in 76 years when he won the United States Open in 2012. He won Wimbledon in 2013 and 2016 and won Olympic gold medals in singles in 2012 and 2016. Murray reached the ATP’s No. 1 ranking for the first time at the end of the 2016 season, holding on to it through Wimbledon the next year.
