The management of University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) says the hospital last Monday, recorded a feat in its health care delivery service to the public as the hospital had delivered its first In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) conception baby.

Speaking to newsmen on the successful delivery of the IVF baby at the hospital complex, Chief Medical Director, UPTH, Prof Henry Arinzi Ugboma said the 34 year old mother of the baby delivered her child without any complications.

Prof Ugboma who conducted newsmen around the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the hospital where the baby was put to bed by teams of medical professionals said the idea and the process of conceptualising IVF in UPTH started in 2007.

The Chief Medical Director said the mother of the new baby was admitted into the hospital for IVF conception nine months ago and today, she is carrying her heathy child.

Prof Ugboma who appealed to mothers looking for babies and the public to always patronise the hospital for a safe IVF conception, saying the cost of carrying out the procedure is affordable compared to private hospitals.

Describing the process as a hitch free, Ugboma thanked team of UPTH medical experts led by prof John Ikimalo of Conception Unit and Dr Preye Fiebai of Obstetric and Gynaecology and the nurses for the successful feat in the delivery.

He admonished women with delivery challenges or those looking for the fruit of the womb to approach the hospital for a safe IVF conception.

UPTH, the CMD said, is well equipped with competent and experienced medical team and manpower to handle a successful IVF procedure to any woman irrespective of her age.

He called on mothers searching for babies and the public to always have confidence in the hospital and team of professionals handling the IVF process.

The mother of the baby who was full of smiles described the team of doctor’s and nurses that performed the safe delivery as wonderful, and excellent to their duty.
The Tide report that the father of the child and his relatives were present at the hospital ward while having chats with the baby’s mother.

Ekweremadu Still Angry? Stays Away From Atiku's Campaigns

There are reported divisions in the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential campaign as associates and supporters of the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, appear to be taking a back seat in the campaign process.

The PDP had denied an earlier reported statement attributed to the Buhari Media Organisation that Ekweremadu and South-East governors were working for the success of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election.

But an associate of Ekweremadu, who spoke with The Punch on condition of anonymity over the issue on Friday, said the Deputy Senate President deliberately stayed away from the campaign of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The source said Ekweremadu would not dissipate energy on a project that he was not considered worthy of playing any major role.

The source added, “The Deputy Senate President was not given any specific assignment in the Atiku Presidential Campaign Council, which I think is wrong. It is not proper that the PDP did not assign any national role to him in its presidential campaign.

“Ekweremadu was not even carried along when the PDP Presidential Campaign Council was constituted; he had no input at all. He also learnt of the composition, like other Nigerians, through the media. If Ekweremadu had not remained in the party, I doubt whether there would be any PDP to return to after the Supreme Court verdict that sacked the erstwhile national executive.

“It is wrong to say that he should campaign alongside his principal who is the director-general of the campaign council (Bukola Saraki). In any case, Ekweremadu was in Gombe State to campaign for Atiku. He is currently concentrating on the South-East, which is his own constituency. He is specifically focusing on how to deliver the South-East region.”

The source added that it was wrong to insinuate that the South-East governors were not involved actively in the PDP presidential campaigns because they felt Ekweremadu had been sidelined.

He said, “The truth of the matter is that the governors are also focusing on their own re-election. They will definitely show their power when the campaigns move to the South-East region.

“Is it when the governors take flights to Sokoto and Bauchi for campaign rallies that will show Nigerians that they are working for Atiku?”

Attempts to speak with Ekweremadu on the issue failed as of the time of filing this report. His Special Adviser on Media, Uche Anichukwu, had yet to respond to a text message sent to him.

But the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, on Saturday, said Ekweremadu was not being sidelined by the party.

He said the senator was active in the party’s structure and the Campaign Council.

TRAGIC! Many Fared Dead As Truck Rams Into Market In Ekiti

Many were feared dead in an evening fatal accident that occurred at a roadside market in Iworoko Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

Sources said a truck coming from Ifaki Ekiti heading towards Ado Ekiti lost control and rammed into the market at about 8pm on Saturday.

Although casualty figures could not be ascertained as of the time of filing the report, a source said, “Four bodies had been recovered from the scene.”

According to the source, efforts to rescue others trapped under the truck were ongoing by sympathisers and traffic officials.

They added that a mini-commercial bus with passengers was crushed by the truck before ramming into the market.

A source said the situation would have been worse if students of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, residing in the community because of its proximity to their campus were around.

Dino Melaye Moved From DSS Facility To SARS Office

The police authorities have moved Dino Melaye, senator representing Kogi west, to the federal special anti-robbery squad (FSARS) office in Guzape district, Abuja.

On Friday, the police transferred the senator from their hospital to a Department of State Service (DSS) health facility for treatment after he complained that he was not getting better.

The police hospital had certified him fit for trial.

An associate of the senator told The Cable on Saturday that the next action of the police is unknown.

“They moved him to SARS office in Guzape. The police moved him without any word. We don’t know what they want to do now,” the associate said.

Last week, he surrendered to the police following a 8-day siege laid to his residence.

The police accused Melaye of culpable homicide and alleged that his supporters shot one Danjuma Saliu, a police officer, in Kogi state on July 19.

Jimoh Moshood, police spokesman, said they have a warrant to keep Dino for 14 days.

How Chief Justice Of Nigeria Onnoghen's Trouble Started

The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) case against the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Walter Onnoghen, was triggered by a petition from a civil rights group, Anti-Corruption And Research Based Data Initiative (ARDI).

A CCB investigator, Mr. James Akpala, said in an affidavit in support of the charges against Justice Onnoghen that the filing of the case stemmed from a petition against the CJN.

Akpala was silent on the name of the petitioners.

He merely said: “I know as a fact that the Head Office of the Bureau received a petition alleging that the CJN failed to declare his assets according to the law.”

ARDI describes itself as “a whistleblower and Anti-Corruption Awareness disseminator, whose effort is to strengthen our democracy and ensure transparent, accountable and responsive governance devoid of corruption for our society.”

It is run by Dennis Aghanya, who served as a media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari between 2009 and 2011.

Aghanya was also the pioneer National Publicity Secretary of Buhari's defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) on whose platform Buhari contested the 2011 presidential election.

The ARDI petition dated January 7, 2019 was received two days later by the CCB, according to online publication, The Cable, shortly before the news of the impeding trial of Onnoghen broke yesterday.

The civil society group said its petition was necessitated by “the imminence of the 2019 General Elections and the overwhelming roles of the Judicial Arm both before and after.”

It claimed that Onnoghen owns “sundry accounts primarily funded through cash deposits made by himself up to as recently as 10th August 2016 which appear to have been run in a manner inconsistent with financial transparency and the code of conduct for public officials.”

It alleged that Onnoghen made five cash deposits of $10,000 each on March 8, 2011 into Standard Chartered Bank Account 1062650; two separate cash deposits of $5000 each and four deposits of $10,000 each on June 7, 2011.

Five similar cash deposits of $10,000 followed on June 27, 2011, and another four deposits of $10,000 each the following day.

Onnoghen, according to the petition, failed to declare his assets immediately after taking office, contrary to section 15 (1) of Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act; and that he did not comply with the constitutional requirement for public servants to declare their assets every four years during their career.

It added that the CJN appeared “to have suppressed or otherwise concealed the existence of these multiple domiciliary accounts owned by him, as well as the substantial cash balances in them.”

It said the CJN’s financial transactions appeared suspicious and not justifiable by his lawful remuneration at all material times.

Fear In Lagos Community As Fuel Pollutes Wells

Residents of the Abule Egba area of Lagos have raised the alarm over pollution of their sources of water supply by fuel that reportedly spilled from the petroleum pipeline ruptured by oil thieves on since December 19, 201.

It was observed that wells, which were the main sources of water supply to houses on Arowolo Street, Adeyemi Close and Segun Akinola Street, among others, had been polluted by petrol after the pipeline was vandalised.

Some wells have been sealed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

The Punch correspondent, who visited the place on Friday, observed that a red ribbon with caution inscription had been tied round the wells to prevent people from going close to them.

With the dry season setting in, residents said getting clean water to use had become a herculean task as women and children had to trek long distances.

A landlady on Segun Akinola Street, Mrs Ashabi Adeyinka, said she had to pay at least N300 every day for clean water.

She said, “The last December incident of pipeline fire is still affecting us. Fuel spilled into our well and other wells around here and this is making it difficult for us to live.

“This house was built 29 years ago and we have been fetching water from the well since then. But now, we have to look elsewhere because the water is mixed with fuel. As you can see, some government officials came and sealed the well.”

Bamidele Adeyemi also told The Punch how residents of the area had been suffering since the incident started.

Occupants of Arowolo Street, including a food vendor, who spoke with the correspondent, said they had been having difficulties getting water for daily use.

Some residents said the water pollution did not start with the December 19 destruction of the pipeline. They claimed it began after the rupture of the pipeline on December 26, 2007.

Another resident on Adeyemi Close, Miss Hadijat Bamgbose, showed a well which she said had been polluted since 2006 to our correspondent.

She said occupants of the house and others in the area started noticing that the well water had been polluted immediately after the incident of 2006.

Bamgbose stated, “The water in this well can’t be used for anything except you leave it for 30 minutes; it will just turn to a mixture of petrol and water.

“Some other houses also suffer a similar fate. Government officials came last December after the recent explosion to test the water but we haven’t seen the effect of that.

“We want government and relevant organisations to come to our aid. The water here is not good and we need help. We don’t know how serious the health implication can be but we know it is dangerous to use this kind of polluted water.”

The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Mr Tajudeen Balogun, whose agency is in charge of protecting pipelines, told our correspondent that the wells were sealed off by the NNPC.

He said, “Immediately that incident happened, we notified the NNPC and they (officials) came to the area, with other government officials, to test the water. They fetched water from the wells. They were the ones that actually sealed off the wells after taking water samples from the wells.”

Buhari Will Bring More Hardship If Reelected – Bishop

An Osun state-based cleric, Bishop Seun Adeoye, has warned Nigerians against reelecting President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC in next month’s presidential poll.

According to him, reelecting Buhari will bring a “double portion of hardship.”

He urged voters to vote for candidates capable of developing the country.

Adeoye, who is the presiding Bishop of Sufficient Grace and Truth Ministry, Okinni, Osun State, in a statement on Friday said many people ignored his warnings against electing Buhari in 2015.

The statement reads, “A few days to the 2015 presidential election, I circulated a statement warning that if Buhari was elected as the president his government would bring hardship to Nigerians. Not many people listened to me. They were overwhelmed by the ‘change’ campaign. Buhari was elected and the rest is history.

“To further sound a note of warning, I held a one-man rally in Osogbo, where I emphatically declared that Buhari’s government did not bring change but ‘chain’. A few days after the protest, I was visited by six heavily armed men in police uniform.”

He added, “Even with all these, I still asked God, ‘will Nigerians be better if Buhari is reelected?’ What I heard worried me and if it happens, ‘Buhari’s reelection will bring a double portion of pains and hardship to Nigerians’ was the reply.

“Nigerians have several options before them and they are free to choose who will rule over them.”

My Wife Won’t Allow Ladies Near Me- Oritsefemi

Lol, as if we don’t know. Abi I haven’t been saying it on this blog? Nabila isn’t in for nonsense, you can’t share her man + she is madly in love. So Oritsefemi just spoke with Sunday Scoops, and the singer spoke about his marriage and things he can’t do anymore as a married man, which includes not being able to hang out with women anymore, plus HIS WIFE EVEN MAKES IT CLEAR TO THEM, lol. His words;

“There are certain things I cannot do again because I am married. I respect my wife a lot. Though I still hang out with my male friends, I cannot do that with ladies any longer. My wife does not even allow ladies come near me. She makes it clear to them that I am her husband and they should stay away.”

The singer, however, rubbished claims that marriage makes male musicians lose their female fans. He said, “Ladies will still want you but they won’t show it publicly once they know you are married. Some of these ladies prefer married men to single men.

Wawu! Soul E's Ex, Queen Ure Reveals Why Her Second Marriage Didn;t Last Over A Year & It's Shocking

Soul E's ex-wife, Queen Ure has revealed why her 2nd marriage barely lasted a year. Queen Ure was reacting to the death of a man who killed himself because his wife left him. Why encouraging others and revealing her own 'hell', Ure wrote;

‘He committed suicide because his wife left him! I wish he had tried to look at the situation a bit differently. I don’t know what you’re going through right now but truly there’s always something good in every ugly situation. Most of you saw my wedding photos barely a year ago, I was happy, I thought that finally God had answered my prayers, a widowed pastor with 4 very young lovely kids, so Wifey and Mummy all at once. I packed all my load and relocated to Gwagwalada. We didn’t date, I took the chance based on recommendation as I was 45 going to 46.

’The guy showed me nwii as in, if not that my father drummed it in my ear that I’m a Queen, I would have thought I was an outcast, every month he would tell me to pack my things and go that I’m not submissive, that a good wife will submit all her money and her body. I was submitting the body o but he wanted the thing everyday.

I was not submitting the money but I was willingly and generously looking after everyone as he didn’t have any source of income. (The Church was new). You’re wondering why I would marry a man with 4 children that doesn’t have shishi?

The good values we were brought up with hasn’t left us, some of us still believe in love and small beginnings, I wasn’t desperate not at all. Anyway onye awusa chirim onu n’ala and finally “broke the marriage” when I insisted I wouldn’t make him a director of my company nor a signatory to the account yet. He may not be such a terrible man just a man with a different view of marriage from mine. This was my 2nd marriage. I will now come and kill myself?

‘To say that I’m not heart broken I’ll be lying but to think that is the end of the world mbanu, for what? Instead of suicide, I’ll kukuma do wedding number 3. I turned 47 last August …no child, no husband, doesn’t sound good but I’m alive and healthy, that’s a testimony.

For the records I never cheated on him, never contemplated it.’

Why I Can't Leave Nigeria Despite Hardship – Victor Osuagwu

Actor, Victor Osuagwu, who celebrated his birthday recently, believes that a lot of things are wrong in Nigeria and he is worried. But, according to him, relocating to another country like some of his colleagues have done is not an option.

In a chat with Sunday Scoop, Osuagwu said leaving Nigeria due to bad governance and hardship would only make him a coward.

He stated, “Though I travel to other countries for pleasure and business, I have never thought of leaving Nigeria (for good) despite the hardship one faces every day. If I run because of the hardship in the country, I am not helping the situation. If I leave Nigeria now, I will come back someday and the same problem might still be there. I know people who have left the country and I am not sure things are better for them abroad.”

The comic actor also lamented that most Nigerians were living in aloofness while politicians were busy sharing the country’s wealth. He said, “I am not happy with this present administration. Nigerians are not happy; we don’t even know what tomorrow will look like. I hope things will get better someday; our leaders need to change their mindset towards the masses.”

South-East Soldiers Biggest Casualties Of Boko Haram War?

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has accused President Muhammadu Buahri and his party, the All Progressives Congress, of deceiving Nigerians with phony promises they do not intend to fulfil.

The National Publicity Secretary of the group, Uche Achi-Okpaga, said this on Friday in an interview with The Punch.

The Ohanaeze’s spokesperson therefore predicted electoral defeat for Buhari in the February 16 presidential poll, saying Nigerians, especially the Igbo, had seen the deception of the ruling party.

He accused the Buhari-led administration of making attempts to decimate Igbo people in the military, saying indigenes of the South-East in the military had suffered the heaviest casualties in the war against the Boko Haram in the North-East.

He said, “The present administration has not done well for the Igbo people. There is calamitous violence in the North and Nigerians soldiers are being killed in hundreds. We found out that south easterners in the military had continued to be killed in a large number and they are followed by those from the Middle Belt. This is a deliberate effort to decimate the number of Igbo people in the Nigerian Army.

Achi-Okpaga accused the government of neglecting the South-East in terms of developmental projects while staging a series of military operations there despite that the region was peaceful.

The Ohanaeze spokesman added, “In the South-East, the government has brought Operation Python Dance; this is the third one. Presently in Nigeria, the South-East is the most peaceful region. Armed robbery, kidnapping have been reduced to the barest minimum. There is no violence anywhere in the South-East; still, they are sending soldiers to attack the whole place. But where there is violence in the North-East, they have no solution.”

Achi-Okpaga also criticised the President for reportedly sidelining the Igbo people from what he called juicy appointments.

He stressed that the exclusion of the people of the South-East from the Board of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission showed Buhari’s alleged disdain for those from the region.

The publicity secretary stated, “In what way has he been fair to the South-East? Is it in the building of roads or what? Does it mean fairness has different meanings in the dictionary of the President? He has not done well and you can see how they are trying to deceive Nigerians.

“They promised the South-East the presidency in 2023; they also promised the South-West presidency in 2023. How can you be speaking from both sides of your mouth at this time? This government has come to be known for deception.

“Last year, Chris Ngige said by October 2018, civil servants would be enjoying a new minimum wage. Now, they are setting up a committee. What is the need? Pass it to the National Assembly. Setting up of a committee is a deceptive means to buy time.”

Aisha Buhari Disagrees With Okorocha Over His Son-in-law

*Scores injured as Uzodinma, Nwosu’s supporters clash at APC rally.
The First Lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari yesterday in Owerri canvassed votes for President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma to the chagrin of Governor Rochas Okorocha.

Represented by the wife of the vice president, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo, the first lady was confident that the South East and Imo State in particular would vote all APC candidates in the coming elections.

“A vote for Buhari is a vote for progress. APC has done well and we must all support all APC candidates,” she said at a rally in Owerri organized by APC women and youths in the South East.

She added: "I am happy with the crowd we saw today. It shows that Imo is APC and I want to urge all our youths not to fight, avoid any form of crisis because President Buhari is a peaceful man. From what we have seen today President Buhari has won the South East the same way all our APC candidates have won.”

At the rally was Uzodinma whose candidature is strongly opposed by Okorocha.

The governor is rooting for his son in law, Uche Nwosu, who is contesting the March governorship election on the platform of the Action Alliance (AA).

Nwosu was originally in the APC until the party gave its guber ticket to Uzodinma.

An angry Okorocha said at yesterday’s rally that nothing would stop Nwosu from succeeding him as governor.

He said: “Let me say this madam First Lady, this time around we are not here to ask you to campaign for Buhari. What my wife has done is to tell you that Buhari is on ground.

“Imo victory for Buhari is designed, sealed. In Imo state, we have 47 political parties and one of the perfect alliances is Action Alliance led by Uche Nwosu.

“Nwosu is APC in spirit. APC, owes Imo people an apology because of the injustice meted to Imo people. In Imo state, Nwosu will win Imo state. It is not anti-party. We refused imposition in Imo state.”

At some point during the rally supporters of Uzodinma and those of Okorocha/Nwosu began to tear each other’s  campaign posters, and eventually clashed.

Security personnel had a tough time bringing the situation under control. No fewer than 15 persons sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital for treatment.

Speaking to reporters on the situation, Uzodinma asked the APC leadership to “look into the matter and take appropriate action.”

Atiku Is A Facebook Politician, Buhari Will Defeat Him - Babachir

Former SGF, Babachir Lawal has said that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar is no match for President Muhammadu Buhari in the upcoming 2019 elections.

Babachir, in a recent interview with Daily Sun, described Atiku as a 'Facebook Politician', adding that President Buhari trumps him in all aspects including height, looks and integrity.

In his words; "Atiku is a Facebook politician. He gets all these smart boys and gives them laptop or smart phone and they write. They write anything they like. And then you go back and say ah, I am very, very popular or they organise bogus survey. Look, those who vote don’t have smart phones, they don’t have TV, and they just have in their minds that it is Buhari they want. The voter does not watch television.

He doesn’t have time even if there is electricity in his village or even if there is GSM network in his village. He doesn’t have the money to buy data bundle. So, they are just deceiving people and just deceiving themselves, thinking that PDP has something and I think PDP, their campaign structure has disintegrated."

He stated further; "Everywhere all over the country, if it is a matter of choice, you place Atiku side by side with Buhari, it is doubtful if anybody will pick Atiku. Is it experience? Buhari has more experience.

He was head of state, Atiku was only vice president. Is it height? Buhari is taller. Is it looking fine? Buhari looks a fine man. So, whatever it is. Is it integrity? Whatever! There is no comparison at all. That simplifies the issues for us, the fact that it is a straight-forward choice before the voter. It is a straight choice between Atiku and Buhari. So, there is no comparison at all. There is none."

Beautiful Graduate Waiting For NYSC Killed By Cooking Gas

This is quite sad. Mildred Amadi, a fresh Computer Science graduate of the University of Calabar, Cross River State, died on Saturday morning, following a cooking gas explosion which occurred on the 27th of December, 2018.

According to her cousin, Mildred, who was meant to go for her NYSC in March, 2019, had gone to braid her hair at a multipurpose hall in Rukpokwu area of Port harcourt, Rivers state.

While there, a boy was said to have turned on a camp gas and
stepped out to get a lighter. Upon his return, he was warned against igniting the burner of the camp gas, since so much gas had already escaped.

However, the boy ignored the warnings and told them that nothing would happen. But immediately he ignited it, there was an explosion and Mildred was badly affected.

She was later rushed to Bridgestone Hospital, Rukpokwu, Port Harcourt, where she died yesterday morning.

According to the cousin, Mildred, the only daughter of her mom, never wanted to make her hair but her mom persuaded her to, so that she would look good.

Atiku Reacts To Buhari Government's Move On CJN Onnoghen

Here's a statement from PDP's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar;

I have received the news of the sudden charges about to be filed against the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, with apprehension and suspicion especially as such a move against the head of an arm of our government is coming so close to an election in which the Buhari administration has shown growing desperation.

My suspicions are further exacerbated by the fact that
the Buhari government is pressuring an independent and self governing arm of government with the aim of getting CJN Walter Onnoghen to resign or be pushed aside.

I stand on the side of the rule of law and believe that a person is innocent until proven guilty and note that a media trial is no trial.

If Justice Walter Onnoghen is guilty of the charges about to be preferred against him, let his guilt be determined by a competent court of law and not by the Buhari administration. The executive cannot usurp the role of the judiciary. Nigeria is still a democracy and not a fascist dictatorship as President Buhari may wish.

Any attempt to force Justice Walter Onnoghen to vacate his office, 4 weeks to an election for which the unpopular Buhari administration has shown every intention to manipulate, is a move pregnant with negative meaning.

I see no reason whatsoever for the ongoing pressure by the Buhari government to force Justice Walter Onnoghen to vacate office when he has not been convicted for any offence.

Nigerians may recall that this government has a history of manipulating the law against the heads of arms of government it considers unfriendly to its cause. A case in point is their malicious prosecution and persecution of the Senate President, Distinguished Senator Bukola Saraki.

I therefore call on the President to respect the principle of separation of powers and abide by the rule of law on this matter and stop any interference or pressure on Justice Walter Onnoghen or the judiciary and allow the law and the constitution take its full course.

Atiku Abubakar
Vice President of Nigeria, 1999-2007,
Presidential Candidate of the PDP.

New Canada Jobs For More Than 1 Million New Immigrants

For those who desire to work outside Nigeria, the opportunity is coming. The Canadian Parliament has announced plans to add more than one million new permanent residents in the next three years. That's nearly one percent of the country's population each year.

Canada welcomed more than 286,000 permanent residents in 2017 and projects that number could reach 350,000 this year.

And 360,000 in 2020.
And 370,000 in 2021.

"Thanks in great part to the newcomers we have welcomed throughout our history, Canada has developed into the strong and vibrant country we all enjoy," said Ahmed Hussen, Canada's minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (IRCC).

Hussen, himself an immigrant from Somalia, said the influx will help offset Canada's aging population and declining birth rate while growing its labor force.

Canada's friendly stance towards new residents comes as many other Western nations, including the United States, are adopting more restrictive immigration policies.
