The names of the presidential and vice-presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) is missing from the final list of presidential candidates published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC published the full list on Thursday. Donald Duke, a former Governor of Cross River State, had won the presidential primary election of the party but his victory had been challenged by Jerry Gana, a former Minister of Information. The matter was taken to court and the court recognised Gana and upturned the result.
After the court ruling, the party disowned Gana, affirming their support for Duke. Meanwhile, Orji Uzor Kalu’s name made it to the final list of candidates contesting seats at the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly.

Femi Fani-Kayode, former Minister of Aviation and Yinka Odumakin, spokesman of the Afenifere group, have filed a N20million suit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the threat to them.
EFCC had threatened to arrest Fani-Kayode and Odumakin and charge them for libel over their claims that the commission laid siege to the house of Walter Onnoghen, Chief Justice of Nigeria.
In a suit filed at a Federal High Court in Abuja through their lawyer, Chukwuma-Machukwu Ume (SAN), Fani-Kayode and Odumakin claimed that the public announcement by the commission to arrest them is an “infringement on their human rights”.
They maintained that “the EFCC is biased and its invitation is a disguised plan to incarcerate them and thwart the cause of justice”.
They are demanding an apology from the commission and also N20million fine as “damages for the unlawful threat to arrest the applicant”.
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday mixed up the dates of his assumption and relinquishing of office as Nigeria’s former Petroleum Minister.
Speaking in Warri, Delta State, at the presidential campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Buhari said he was Petroleum Minister from 1978 to 1979.
“I am impressed by what previous speakers have said, especially the Minister of State for Petroleum who told you what we have been able to do in Delta State, because he happens to come from here and he happens to be my Junior Minister as Minister of petroleum Resources,” Buhari told the audience.
“Since 1984, or 78 to 79 when I was the Minister, I never lost interest in the petroleum industry. I am acutely aware of your influence because God has placed you on top of this national asset. I hope you will understand and appreciate the favour God has done to you in favour of the rest of Nigerians.
“I am trying to remind you to please reflect very seriously: where were we when we came in 2015, where are we now? What were we able to achieve with the resources available to us. I assure you, under this leadership, is to serve Nigeria.”
Buhari’s claim, though, isn’t true.

When the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) was created in 1977, Buhari was also appointed as its Chairman; he held this position until 1978.

A well-known South Florida Realtor has been found dead inside a Miami home in an apparent murder-suicide.
Linda Marx, 70, was shot and killed by her son-in-law, Stephen Kasimow, 52, before he also killed himself, Miami police told local reporters. The broker and owner of Linda Marx Realty, Marx had been semi-retired since 2007.
At around 5 p.m. on Monday, police were called with a report of an argument in the 2100 block of Northeast 211th Street at Aventura in northern Miami. Police said that Kasimow blamed Marx when his wife, Aimee Marx Kasimow, asked him for a divorce.
Marx had approached Kasimow in front of the house that he shared with his wife. After she started to talk to him, he fatally shot her before running away to his car. Kasimow was also a broker working out of the Miami area.
“He fled the scene and somehow police communicated with him by phone,” Hollywood police spokesman Christian Lata told local press. As police were trying to track Kasimow based on the signal from his phone, he drove four miles away to Hollywood, where he was later found dead by means of suicide.
The Ekiti State Police Command on Thursday discovered a ritualist shrine in Odo, a suburb in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
The ritualist shrine located around Crown Polytechnic area, was uncovered by a team of Policemen led by the Commissioner, Asuquo Amba.
The discovery of the ritualist den happened few days after the CP declared total war on the evil perpetrators during the recent parading of 50 criminals.
The CP who added that they are planning to raid and burst bushes used by criminals in the State.
The shrine was fully decorated with several statues, fake foreign currencies and fetish objects.
Amba told journalists that the police acted on a tip-off and bursted the area where two suspected ritualists were apprehended.
He said, “We acted on a reliable tip-off which led to the arrest of two suspected ritualists.
“Of particular interest was the discovery of a dungeon with a path which connects one of the shrines to another.
He added that a community leader has been invited to assist them in their investigation.
The CP appealed to the people of the state to always assist the police by giving them useful information.
Amba said security of any state or nation could not be left in the hands of a few security men but added that everybody should be involved.
He further said that the police needs the cooperation and the support of the people of the state to ensure utmost security.
The Czech Republic has decided to pay Nigerians and other migrants to encourage them to leave the central European country.
The offer is under a programme that focuses particularly on migrants from Afghanistan, Iraq, Nigeria, Mongolia, Russia, and Vietnam.
According to a report published on RemixNews, a Czech Republic-based newspaper, the Czech government would pay any migrants who would voluntarily leave the country and other EU countries 4,000 EUR.
The programme tagged ”Returns” established by the Czech Interior Ministry would assist immigrants with transportation costs and integration in their country of origin, including accommodation, household equipment or domestic animal expenses.
”Anyone who voluntarily leaves the country and promises not to return not only to the Czech Republic but to the EU will be eligible for the money,” the report said.
US President Donald Trump has postponed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's upcoming trip to Brussels and Afghanistan, asking her to stay to negotiate an end to the partial US government shutdown.
The president was able to halt the trip by denying the use of military aircraft to Mrs Pelosi and a delegation.
On Wednesday Mrs Pelosi had urged Mr Trump to postpone his State of the Union address, amid political deadlock.
Mr Trump's move came on the 27th day of the US's longest-ever federal shutdown.

An Indonesian woman burned her husband alive after he refused to give her the passcode to his mobile phone.
Dedi Purnama, 26, had been working to repair the roof tiles on the couple's home when his wife Ilham Cahyani, 25, asked for his password.
He refused, sparking an argument during which he hit her before she poured petrol on him and set him on fire.
Mr Purnama died two days after the incident in the East Lombok Regency of the Indonesian Province of West Nusa Tenggara.
East Lombok Police Chief Made Yogi said the initial verbal argument between the couple had escalated when Mr Purnama climbed down from the roof and hit his wife.
Cahyani reportedly grabbed a petrol can and poured the flammable liquid over her husband before setting him aflame using a lighter.
A witness identified as Oji told reporters he had run over to the couple's house after spotting the flames and helped put them out.
Mr Purnama was rushed to the Keruak Health Centre and underwent treatment for two days for the horrific burns he sustained.
Mr Purnama died after two days in hospital.
Cahyani has been arrested and reportedly remains in custody at East Lombok Regional Police Station, although it is unclear if she has been charged.
A woman has been arrested after allegedly stealing five Rolex watches - four of which she hid inside her v-gina.
Delajurea Brookens, 29, is accused of stealing the timepieces, worth a total of $108,000, after meeting 46-year-old Ramon Diaz at a club in Miami.
Police say she went back to Diaz's hotel room before swiping the watches, which were being kept in a velour bag, and making a break for it.
When he confronted her she began hitting him around the head as hotel staff called the police.
But when officers showed up and searched the velour bag, they were only able to find one of the watches - a $22,000 Hublot.
The other jewelry did not show up until a strip search in jail, when jailers say they found them stashed inside Brookens.
The precious haul included a platinum Daytona model which can cost upwards of $60,000, and another with a diamond bezel.
Brookens was charged with grand theft, cocaine possession, and introducing contraband into a correctional facility.
Cops said she has previous convictions for resisting and officer and prostitution, and has the word 'whore' tattooed on her arm.

President Muhammadu Buhari caused a stir on social media yesterday when he erroneously referred to the governorship candidate of his party as the ‘presidential candidate’.
This happened during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally in Delta State. President Buhari was to hand over the APC’s flag to Great Ogboru, the APC governorship candidate in the state when he made the mistake.
In addressing Mr Ogboru, the president said, “I am handing over this flag of honour to our presidential candidate.” It took two more attempts before the President got it right.

The Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended the state governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, from the party with immediate effect. His suspension followed what the leadership of the party in the state described as “gross anti-party activities”.
According to the party, the suspension order is consequent upon a report of the Matthew Omegara-led disciplinary committee set up to investigate allegations of gross anti-party activities against the governor. The party leadership in the state premised the suspension of the governor on Article 21 (B) i–vi of the APC constitution as amended.

But to me, up till now I still remember what happened to me 70 years ago and I also do things like I was still in my 30s. I still prepare speeches. “Sometimes I also wear my suit and go to work without informing my son that I was coming. I started as a teacher, then lawyer and finally, a banker. I believe what I am doing is by his grace, I am not doing it by myself. Look around Ijebu-Ode, some of my mates have gone.”
Otunba Balogun called for a mutual relationship between people of different religions saying tradition and Christianity are interwoven. He added: “ There is no Christian family in Ijebuland that does not have a Muslim and there is no Muslim family that does not have a Christian. I am proud to be one of the Christians in a Muslim family.”

The Duke of Edinburgh has escaped unhurt after the car he was driving was involved in an accident close to the Sandringham estate in Norfolk.
Police were called to the scene of a collision involving 97-year-old Prince Philip on Thursday. Witnesses told the BBC that the Land Rover being driven by Philip had overturned after pulling out from a driveway on the A149.
He was helped out of the car by eyewitnesses and was reportedly conscious but very shocked and shaken. The palace would not confirm if he was alone in the vehicle at the time of the collision. The other car involved was a Kia and its female driver and passenger were treated in hospital and have since been discharged.
Norfolk police said: “The female driver of the Kia suffered cuts while the female passenger sustained an arm injury, both requiring hospital treatment.”
A Buckingham Palace statement said: “The Duke of Edinburgh was involved in a road traffic accident with another vehicle this afternoon. The duke was not injured. The accident took place close to the Sandringham estate. Local police attended the scene.”
