See Pretty Lady Who Lost Her Life While Saving Others (Photos)

Tuesday, January 15, will go down history books as another dark day in Kenya when 21 lives were lost during a deadly terror attack at the 14 Riverside complex.

Many of them having met their deaths untimely, it will take the country a pretty long time before coming to terms with their death.

However, the 21 died a heroic death in the face of terror, among them a bubbly young lady who worked as the dusitD2 Revenue director.

Bernadette Konjalo, a true definition of beauty with brains had her colourful career in the hospitality industry brought to a sudden end when terrorists shot right through her hands into her face.

"Words will never be enough, you were one resilient lady I ever knew," wrote one of her friends.

When everyone was running to safety amidst gunshots and confusion, Konjalo put the lives of her colleagues and guests first. The Gatanga Girls' High School alumni met her untimely death while directing her colleagues and guests to safety zones via designated exit zones.

Konjalo was not only a darling to her workmates and family, but also her former school mates who have seemingly been shocked by her sudden death. Having shown leadership skills from a tender age, Konjalo was assigned dinning hall prefect at Gatanga Girls' High School.

According to her former school mates, she was the most loved among the prefects and easy to go to person. The ever-smiling girl worked at Tribe Hotel for six years before moving to dusitD2 Hotel in March, 2014.

While at dusitD2, she rose up the ranks from the position of assistant front office manager to the director of revenue. May her soul RIP

Atiku Grants First Interview In US, Reveals Why He Didn't Travel To America In 10 Years

In an interview with VOA Hausa Service in Washington DC, PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar said stories that he was banned from the United States was ‘misinformation’.

He spoke after his arrival to the US capital. Here are details;

Interview conducted by VOA’s Aliyu Mustapha Sokoto.

VOA: What has been in the news for many years has come to past right now I’m together with the former Vice President of Nigeria and the Presidential flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after he had just returned from some interactive session with some high ranking Congress Men and Women. Your excellency, now that you have visited Washington D.C, does it have to do with those who said you cannot come to the United State of America or the visit is for what purpose?

Atiku: Aliyu I told you before that my coming to the United State is in the hands of Americans if they decided to issue a Visa to me I will definitely come and if they refused to give me I cannot come. And now they have issued it to me and I am here. I’m having some positive discussions with some of the officials. I was in the Congress and I had discussions with some high ranking Congress men and women about Nigeria and how Nigeria intends to improve her relationship with the United States of America.

VOA: After visiting the Congress, do you intend to meet with some other people?

Atiku: Yes, by tomorrow (Friday) I will go to the State Department in order to have vital discussions with some of their officials.

VOA: Will you also meet with the members of the United States Chamber of Commerce?

Atiku: Yes, I will meet them tomorrow (Friday) by the Grace of God.

VOA: Who invited you to the United State?

Atiku: I was invited by many organizations in United States.

VOA: Before some people are saying that you cannot come to the United States of America but now you are here people will stop doubting.

Atiku: The whole thing is about misinformation

VOA: What do you mean by misinformation?

Atiku: Because for a very long time they have been lying to them (Nigerians) and they agreed; I tried to explain to them but they refused to listen. And I hope now people are going to understand.

VOA: Your coming to America has shown that you are going to have some interactions with some top officials of the United State are they in support of your candidacy?

Atiku: Yes.

VOA: Are you convinced that the United States Government are in support of your candidacy?

Atiku: There is no doubt because the United State is ready to support any country that is practicing democracy.

VOA: People know you as a businessman; do you think that your business background and experience will influence the United States Government to support you?

Atiku: One good thing is that Nigeria is a country that is practicing democracy and everyone knows that we have played a significant role and have done a lot to sustain democratic governance in Nigeria and it is very important.

Women Are Worst Hit By Depression- Nigerian Expert

A psychiatrist with the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) Dr. Friday Philip, has said that women were more prone to depression because they do not share their problems with others.

“Women tend to keep more to themselves when they have issues bothering them. They hardly share their worries like men do,” Philip said today in Jos.

He spoke at a seminar organised by AFRICAMSI, an NGO, to sensitise people on depression and its effects on the society.

The seminar had the theme: “African Woman: Managing The Evil of Stress, Depression and Suicide in the 21st Century”.

Philip advised people with symptoms of depression to promptly seek medical help.

“When a person gets extremely sick, most likely the individual will see a doctor; similarly, seeing a psychiatrist means the patient needs help and advice.

“Unfortunately, in our society, going to a psychiatrist often suggests to family members that the patient is insane or a lunatic,” he said.

He said that keeping mental challenge to oneself was “highly detrimental to health”, noting that many lives had been lost because of such attitude.

“People hardly seek help for mental challenges because of the stigma usually associated with such situations. Unfortunately, by the time the challenge is discovered, it is usually too late,” he said.

Court Grants Dino Melaye Bail

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama, Abuja has granted bail to Senator Dino Melaye currently being held in a police health facility in Abuja.

In a ruling on an application by Melaye, argued by his lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) Justice Yusuf Halilu granted bail to Melaye on health ground.

The judge asked him to produce three sureties, one of who must be the Clerk of the National Assembly, who must undertake to produce him when he is to be arraigned in respect of a charge already filed against him.

The judge said the other two sureties must be owners of properties within the Abuja metropolis.

Justice Halilu agreed with Ozekhome that the filing of a charge against Melaye by the police should not stop the court from exercising its discretion to grant bail.

The Judge said since the police has exhibited a copy of the formal charge filed against Melaye, it was obvious that the prosecution has concluded plan to arraign him before a court.

Justice Halilu noted it was only the living that stands trial and impracticable to arraign Melaye either on stretcher or on his hospital bed, it was rational to allow him on bail.

Soccer Star Ronaldo Expected In Madrid Tuesday For Tax Fraud Trial

Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo is expected back in Madrid on Tuesday to attend a trial for tax evasion where Spanish prosecutors are asking for a 23-month prison sentence and fine.

Ronaldo’s former Madrid teammate Xabi Alonso is also due in court next Tuesday for another case of tax fraud.

Portuguese striker Ronaldo, who left Real Madrid for Juventus last July, is expected to plead guilty after he agreed a settlement worth 18.8 million euros ($21.43 million) with Spanish tax authorities last summer.

However, he is unlikely to serve any time in prison as Spanish law states a sentence of under two years for a first offence can be served on probation.

Total Lunar Eclipse To Take Place Monday- NASRDA

The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) on Friday says Nigeria will join other countries of the world to experience total lunar eclipse on Monday.

The information is in a statement by Dr Felix Alle, the Head, Media and Public Communications of the agency in Abuja.

According to Alle, lunar eclipse is one in which the moon appears darkened as it passes into the earth’s shadow.

He stated that “lunar eclipse occurs only when the sun, earth and moon are exactly aligned with the earth between the two.

“There will be a lunar eclipse over Nigeria on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019.

“The eclipse, expected to be total, will begin in the evening of Sunday and end on Monday.

“The eclipse will start across Nigeria in the early hours of Monday at approximately 3.36 a.m. to reach its maximum
at 6.12 a.m. and end at about 6.51 a.m.

“The total duration of the occurrence over Nigeria will be three hours and 15 minutes.”

The media head said that the lunar eclipse would by 4.33 a.m. become partial eclipse, where the moon would start getting red.

He added that “at exactly 5.41 a.m., a maximum eclipse of the moon which may be visible to human sight will be witnessed, while the moon eclipse is expected to end at 6.43 a.m.”

The communications officer stated that the eclipse was expected to take place across North, South America, Western Europe, North and West Africa and Asia.

He said that the year’s total lunar eclipse would be the last eclipse to be experienced until 2021.

Hotel Dishwasher Awarded $21m After Boss Made Her Work On Sundays

A jury has awarded a Miami hotel dishwasher $21.5 million, concluding that her employer failed to honor her religious beliefs by repeatedly scheduling her on Sundays and ultimately firing her.

Marie Jean Pierre, a dishwasher at the Conrad Miami, sued Virginia-based Park Hotels & Resorts, formerly known as Hilton Worldwide, for violations of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 in 2017. The jury found for Pierre and the award was filed on Tuesday with the U.S. District Court in Miami.

But Pierre, a 60-year-old mother of six children in Miami, isn’t likely to end up getting all that money. Instead, it’ll be more in the range of $500,000, because punitive damages are capped in federal court, her lawyer said.

"The jury was not aware of the cap,” said Pierre’s Miami-based lawyer, Marc Brumer. “They thought that they punished Hilton hotel with $21 million [in damages]."

She’d get up to $300,000 in punitive damages — that’s the limit in federal court — in addition to $500,000 awarded for emotional distress and $35,000 in back wages, Brumer said. From all that, Pierre could get about $500,000 after legal fees are factored in, Brumer estimated.
Gov. DeSantis wages fight against Airbnb over West Bank policy he calls discriminatory

Pierre is a member of the Soldiers of Christ Church, a Catholic missionary group that helps the poor, and said she needed Sundays off from work.

“You can’t discriminate when someone has a religious belief,” Brumer said, citing the federal law. “You have to accommodate them.”

Brumer said Hilton argued in court that it never knew Pierre was a missionary, or why she always wanted Sundays off. “There were letters in [her personnel] file and her pastor went down there,” Brumer said.

Don't Kill Buhari Uche Secondus Warns APC

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uche Secondus, has called on the All Progressives Congress and members of what he described as a cabal in the Presidency, not to kill President Muhammadu Buhari with undue pressure.

He said that for selfish reasons, those he called power grabbers are putting undue pressure on the President even as he said there were enough indications that the President can no longer cope.

Secondus, who spoke while inaugurating 27 Presidential election campaign committees at the party’s Campaign office in Abuja, on Friday, said that from what Nigerians and the international community are witnessing around the President lately, it was apparent that “he is tired and incapable but they would not let him.”

Atiku To Be Questioned When He Returns From U.S

The Federal Government of Nigeria has said that the candidate of the opposition PDP in the 2019 election, Atiku Abubakar, has questions to answer when he returns from his current trip to the United States.

The government said it is investigating Mr Abubakar’s alleged role in the collapse of former Bank PHB.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said this while briefing State House correspondents on Friday.

Mr Mohammed said the decision to question Mr Abubakar is “following fresh evidence that he benefitted from slush funds that led to the collapse of Bank PHB.”

The government spokesperson said the government has in its position “paper trail which shows that he benefitted from N156 million.”

“It started from an internal memo dated 13 January 2009 asking that a draft in favour of Atiku Abubakar of 156 million should be raised,” he said.

The matter was taken to court and the court recognised Gana and upturned the result.

After the court ruling, the party disowned Gana, affirming their support for Duke. Meanwhile, Orji Uzor Kalu’s name made it to the final list of candidates contesting seats at the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly.

I Am A Single Mum Not Because I Was Promiscuous

A woman named Folashade has taken to her Instagram page to narrate how and why she is a single mother. She said that she's a single mum doesn't mean she was promiscuous or immoral.

am a single mum not because i was promiscuous, not because I had many men, not because i was immoral.

But because i trusted the wrong man with my heart, gave myself out to the wrong man who took advantage of my simple naive and pure love.the man promised heaven but led me the hell way.

Am a single mum bcos I was brave enough to go the way alone, endure ridicule and hatred alone, get misjudged alone.i endured all emotions of rejection alone, i endured all difficulties of pregnancy and embraced motherhood alone and emerged as a strong woman all alone.

I protected my child all alone and endured all innocent questions that would stab my heart alone, “Mummy, where is my dad?”. The single mums deserves respect and congratulations for enduring to the end all alone as the dead beat went on with life as if we do not exist. Sometimes I do cry, sometimes I feel wretched,I feel weak and lost but I look at my child and remember “I must remain strong, composed, courageous and focused since that child has no one else to look up to except me

Big up to all single mothers who stood up strong and brave when the coward took off.press on,the sky is our starting point #OmodaraOdicase#StrongWoman#, she wrote.
