Nigerian Man Posing As A Lady To Defraud People Online Nabbed

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal office, on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, arraigned a suspected Internet fraudster, Balogun Sultan, before Justice Oloruntoyin Solebo of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos on a four-count charge bordering on possession of fraudulent documents.

According to the EFCC, the defendant was said to have present himself as Erika Stiller, a female, to unsuspecting victims on the Internet.

One of the counts reads: "That you, Balogun Sultan (a.k.a Erika Stiller), on or about the 29th November, 2017 at Lagos, within the Ikeja Judicial Division, with intent to defraud, had in your possession documents containing false pretence titled "Picture from Erika" from Erika Stiller by sending pictures to mark65243@yahoo.com and printed from your e-mail box, erikastiller231@gmail.com, erikastiller231@gmail.com".

Another count reads: "That you, Balogun Sultan (a.k.a Erika Stiller), on or about the 13th April, 2018 at Lagos within the Ikeja Judicial Division, with intent to defraud, had in your possession documents containing false pretence titled "Grant FMT" Re Money" from Erika Stiller by sending a letter printed from your e-mail box, erikastiller231@gmail.com".

He, however, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him.

In view of his plea, the prosecution counsel, C.R. Edozie, asked the court for a trial date and prayed the court to remand the defendant in prison custody pending the determination of the case before the court.

Counsel to the defendant, Babatunde Adeyemi, prayed the court to admit him to bail.

In his response, the prosecution counsel told the court that though he had been served with the bail application, he would need time to go through it.

Consequently, Justice Solebo adjourned the matter to February 5, 2019 for hearing of the bail application and also remanded the defendant in Kirikiri prison custody.

Shocking Story Of Hospital In Warri, Delta State

Some sick residents of Delta State who visited the Warri Central Hospital, located on Warri/Sapele Road, Warri, have lamented the state of facilities in the hospital.

In a recording of their experience, which they shared with SaharaReporters, they were seen lamenting the absence of government at the hospital, the children clinic being the worst hit.

Some of the patients highlighted the number-one challenge of the hospital as lack of power supply.

Speaking on the appalling situation, one of them, Lucky Iyoghosa, who was visiting the hospital to see a friend’s daughter on admission, described the state of the hospital as "absurd" and "nonsense.

“This is Warri Central Hospital. This is absurd," he said. "This is the children’s clinic, no light. Do we really have a government in this place?”

He questioned the management of the hospital and the Chief Medical Director for failing to provide a conducive environment for patients.

A mother who brought her one-month-old son for treatment in the hospital confirmed the situation, adding that the hospital does not even have a drug store.

She added that patients also sleep on the floor due to inadequate space and beds.

“I have been here since last week and they have always been asking for money. There hasn't been supply of electricity to the hospital since I was here," he said.

“In this hospital, patients have to sleep on the floor because there are not enough beds for patients. I now have a swollen leg because of lack of space. There is no drug store in the hospital and nurses refer patients to visit pharmacies outside the hospital to buy the drugs.”

The patients urged the government to find a permanent solution to the state of facilities at the hospital, stressing that power supply has to be prioritized in returning the hospital to full working state.

Police Deny Arresting Amaechi In Port Harcourt

Rivers State police command has denied the allegation making the rounds that it has arrested the immediate-past governor of the state and Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi.

State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nnamdi Omoni, in a statement issued on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Usman Belel, condemned the alleged arrest, describing it as diversionary and mischievous.

Omoni urged members of the public to discountenance the report, which was reportedly aired by one of the television stations in Port Harcourt, saying that the CP had ordered an investigation into the report.

He stressed that neither the police nor any other security agency arrested the former governor, adding that the report claimed that Amaechi was arrested on the allegation of corruption, as directed by the Inspector General of Police.

I Will Pay 100,000 Minimum Wage If Elected President Sowore Promises

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Mr Omoyele Sowore, has promised to pay workers 100,000 as minimum wage if elected as the next president of the nation on Feb. 16.

Sowore made the pledge at a town hall meeting tagged: ‘The Candidates’ organised by the MacArthur Foundation in collaboration with NTA and DARIA media in Abuja.

He said that his administration would address the menace of ghost workers by installing technologies that would daily capture fingerprints of workers and the hours spent at work.

He also said that he would ensure leakages were effectively blocked and would enthrone proper management of resources in the country if elected.

The AAC presidential candidate said that his administration would ensure efficient collection of taxes, and that there would be no sacred cows.

According to him, most companies in Nigeria collect tax from workers but do not remit to the government, while others are under remitting.

On power supply, Sowore said when elected, he would bring in solar panels that would generate up to 4500 megawatts of electricity across the country in less than a year.

He was re-arraigned today on an amended 22-count charge bordering on possession of fraudulent documents.

One of the counts reads: “That you, Temitope Alani Teslim (aka Hannah Ciar), on or about the 25th of June 2018 at Lagos, within the Ikeja judicial division, had in your possession a document titled ‘My Discussion With Stevieboy66’, wherein you represented yourself as a white female, Hannah Ciar, to one Stevieboy66, thereby containing pretence which you knew to be false.”

TY Danjuma Alleges Plot To Rig Elections

A former minister of defence, Theophilus Danjuma, has raised an alarm over an alleged plot to rig next month’s general elections.

Describing the democracy of the nation as primitive, he said there was a plan to cause unrest in order to manipulate the elections.

According to The Punch, Mr Danjuma made the allegation while inaugurating a medical laboratory at the Rufkatu Danjuma Maternity Hospital in his Takum hometown in Taraba State.

He urged the people of Taraba to protect their votes to prevent electoral fraud.

“There is no need to fight one another because they will use the police and soldiers to destabilize us and rig the elections.”

Ahead of the 2019 election which is less than a month away, there have been several allegations on plans to rig the elections by opposition parties and a former president, Olusegun Obasanjo.

Amidst all these allegations, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured it is committed to a credible process.

Mr Danjuma, therefore, tasked the electorate to work for peace, noting there is no need to fight one another.

“It is in our best interest to ensure there is peace. Those behind this plot know that they will not win elections if there is peace. I want to call on you not to sell your votes because you will be selling your birth right if you do so,” he said.

Another Painting Of Dora Akunyili's Daughter Graces The Streets Of Los Angeles [Photo]

Chidiogo Parr’s, daughter of the late Prof Dora Akunyili’s face graced the streets of Los Angeles in a painting done by her sister and renowned visual artist, Njideka Akunyili Crosby.

Sharing the photo on her Instagram page, @Chidiogo_oo, wrote:

“I remember the day I posed for this picture that would become a painting that would grace the streets of LA. My visa to Germany had been rejected.

“When I had pushed to understand why, I had received an apologetic explanation from a kind officer on how they couldn’t understand why a Nigerian woman as myself wanted to learn German.

“I was stuck in limbo in between my dream and my reality, uncertain of my next steps, frustrated with life, filled with resentment and judgement.

“And out of that summer came this painting. I suppose it’s my very own compass to always remember that there is only so much we can see from the bottom of the tree. The view is always changing if we can allow it.’’

Njideka, 35, recently sold a previous painting titled “Bush Babies’’ for $3.4 million, equivalent to N1.2billion.

Group Kicks Against Lagos Government’s Water Privatisation Plan

The Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Service Employees (AUPCTRE) has kicked against the continued plan by the Lagos State government to run the state-owned waterworks using a public-private partnership model.

Addressing a press conference in Lagos, Tuesday, Abiodun Bakare, AUPCTRE’s state secretary, said the scarcity of potable water provided by the water corporation to some parts of the state is deliberate.

“Water scarcity in some parts of the state is a deliberate strategy by the management of Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) to cajole Lagosians into believing that the only sustainable way of supplying water to Lagos residents is to adopt the much-discredited privatisation model of public-private partnership (PPP),” said Mr Bakare.

“It is disheartening to state here that at this critical period when countries throughout the world are embracing re-municipalisation, Lagos State is spearheading privatisation.”

The Lagos State Government had continually insisted that it was not privatising its waterworks, but turning to the PPP model to enable it meet the water demands across the state.

Last week, the state government signed a memorandum of understanding with the International Finance Corporation to enhance revenue generation and provide advisory services on infrastructural development, a move civil society groups described as “suspicious.”

Worker Pulls Down UK Hotel Over £600 Wages

Supporters of a builder who complained he had not been paid his £600 wages before driving a 2.5-ton digger into a Travelodge have raised £5,000 on a GoFundMe.

The driver, known has John, drove into the reception area of the hotel at Liverpool Innovation Park on Edge Lane shortly before 3pm Monday.

He claimed his wages had not been deposited into his account on Friday, however co-workers alleged there had been a glitch and the money did not arrive until Monday morning.

One worker at the site told The Sun: 'The money was supposed to go into his bank on Friday.

'But there was some kind of glitch and it didn’t go in until Monday.

'He didn’t check his bank account and didn’t realise he’d actually been paid. That’s why he went mental and wrecked the place.'

Drake Unfollows The Weeknd On Instagram... Then Follows Soulja Boy

Drake is here for Soulja Boy's comeback but likely upset over The Weeknd's "Lost In The Fire" verse. Despite representing the same city, Drake and The Weeknd have had conflict in the past.

Drake is often credited for helping The Weeknd launch his career, although he's often reminded of Abel's contributions to Take Care. Unfortunately, it looks like the two Torontonians are at odds once again.

Drake seems to have unfollowed The Weeknd on Instagram. This appears to be due to a bar in The Weeknd's collaboration with Gesaffelstein, "Lost In The Fire" which seems to have a bar directed at Drake. "And I just want a baby with the right one/ (I just want a baby with the right)/ 'Cause I could never be the one to hide one (I could never be the one to hide)," The Weeknd sings which many presumed to be a shot at Drake's child-reveal in 2018.

The song ended up getting a co-sign from Drizzy's arch nemesis, Pusha T, who retweeted the song with three fire emojis which led many people to further speculate that the line was indeed a shot at Drake.

After unfollowing The Weeknd, Drake followed the person that taught him "everything he knows," Soulja Boy. Over the past few days, Soulja Boy has been coming for Drake through interviews and Instagram Live sessions.
