The President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government on Friday suspended the embattled Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen following the order of Code of Conduct Tribunal of January 23rd.
The suspension stands till the conclusion of his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
President Buhari on Friday swore in Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed from Bauchi State as the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria.
Tanko was conveyed to the Presidential Villa at about 4:30pm in a black Mercedes Benz C240 with number plate GWA: 900FA. The development has left many Nigerians in shock.

A 40-year old lady, one Ijeoma Ogbu, has been arrested after she was caught with clothes she allegedly stole at a supermarket in Lagos.
P.m.Express reports that the alleged theft took place at Abubakar Street, Abule Egba, Fagba, Lagos.
The suspect was said to have pretended to have gone to buy clothes at the store but had another motive which was to steal clothes there. She was eventually caught as she reportedly hid the clothes in her bag and attempted to escape.
It was gathered that the owner of the store had incurred the loss of several clothes in the past before luck ran out on Ijeoma and she was caught in the act. She was handed over to the police.
At the police station, the owner of the store, Awolusi Saheed, claimed that the total clothes Ijeoma had stolen from him was about N562,000.
She was later charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for stealing.
She pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Victor Eruada, did not object to her being granted bail but asked for a date for hearing.
The prosecutor, Mrs. Dan-Oni, granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
She was remanded in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail.
The matter was adjourned till 13th February, 2019.
An Instagram mother who posts lifestyle advice for parents has been caught cruelly abusing her own son.
Olga Shvetsova, 31, was filmed kicking and slapping her six year old boy at a shopping centre play area.
The Ukrainian blogger only stopped when a woman employee of the mall ran to intervene and separated her from son Vitalik.
'She was shouting – "I hate you" – and all that sort of stuff,' said an eyewitness.
Another said: 'She was totally insane.'
Natalia, manager of the play area, said: 'When the child is being kicked in his back – it is not at all a calm way to behave.
'All our staff were stunned.'

A 45-year-old auto mechanic, Olakunle Oladejo, on Friday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ondo State, over alleged illegal marriage with a housewife.
The defendant of no fixed address is standing trial in the court on one-count charge of illegal marriage.
The police prosecutor, Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that Mr Oladejo and two others now at large on October 10, 2018 around 12:00 p,m. at a marriage registry in Okitipupa, unlawfully did illegal marriage with Dupe Moroke without the consent of the court.
Mr Omoyeigha said that the defendant did the marriage with a valid marriage certificate which has not been dissolved between the complainant, Olakunle Moroke and Dupe.
He said that the offence was contrary and punishable under Section 370, Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge leveled against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Dickson Ogunfuyi, granted the defendant a N50, 000 bail and a surety who must be blood-related in like sum.
He said that the surety must be a blood relation of the defendant and should also present a one-year tax clearance certificate as part of the bail conditions.
Ogunfuyi adjourned the case until February 13 for further hearing.
A group of youth on Wednesday gathered at the Unity Fountain to demand the release of the detained activist, Deji Adeyanju.
The protest was organised by the Free Nigeria Movement. The co-convener of the group, Adebayo Rafael, led the protesters on a march to the Three Arms Junction near the federal secretariat.
The police arrested Mr Adeyanju on November 28, 2018 at a protest that urged security agencies, especially the police, to be nonpartisan during the upcoming elections. The protest took place at the police headquarters in Abuja.
A court granted him bail on December 6 but he was rearrested on December 13 and charged with murder, an allegation dug up from his student days at the Bayero University, Kano.
At the protest, Mr Rafeal called on President Muhammadu Buhari to release Mr Adeyanju, saying the activist did nothing wrong,
”We are here to say our democracy is in danger, we are here to say that it is time for us to rescue our country, we are here to say we can no longer allow the abuse of the right and the human right violations of the Nigerian people,” he said.
”We are not going to allow the attack on the freedom of the press and the freedom of speech, we are here to say the Nigerian people and the youth would not tolerate the tyranny of Buhari Osibanjo.
”We are also here to inform Mr President to free Deji Adeyanju who has been in detention for more than 40 days. We are also saying Deji has committed no offence for him to be remanded in jail. He is not a thief, the real thief of our commonwealth in this country are roaming around with nobody hindering their movement.”
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the purported expulsion of its Imo State governorship candidate, Hope Uzodinma, from the party is null and void.
This was revealed in a statement by the party’s national publicity secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu, on Thursday night.
The party said only the caretaker committee it set up in the state is recognised and can take such a decision.
“Mr. Nlemigbo remains the only recognised Imo State Chairman and any decision which do not emanate from this recognised Caretaker Committee as regards the affairs of the APC in Imo State is null and void.”
A Nigerian actress, Queen Hilbert has surfered a horrific car accident and is in hospital. She revealed the sad development on social media.
According to her, she went unconscious after the accident happened and actually regained consciousness after being rushed to hospital.

The police in Akwa Ibom have arrested a security guard attached to a church in the state, for allegedly raping a four-year-old girl.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Musa Kimo, who disclosed this to journalists in Uyo on Friday, said the suspect, Joseph Effiong, 29, who works as a security guard at Royal City Central Chapel Church, Uyo, lured the victim (name withheld) to an uncompleted building and defiled her.
The incident, Mr Kimo said, took place on January 13. The police paraded Mr Effiong before reporters.
Other Suspects Arrested
The police also paraded one Joseph Sunday Essien of Ifa Ikot Obong who was arrested for allegedly raping his 13-year-old step-daughter (name withheld).
Another suspected paedophile, Edet Inyang Edem, was also paraded before reporters. He is accused of raping a 10-year-old girl (name withheld), and thereafter abandoned her at a market in Uyo.
The police commissioner said the arrest of the suspects was parts of the successes of the police in the state.
He said the suspects would be charged to court at the end of investigations.

The Nigeria Football Federation has condoled Super Eagles’ deputy captain, Ahmed Musa, on the death of his mother, Sarah Moses.
Mrs Moses died at a hospital in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, after a brief illness.
The President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, said the generality of Nigerian football fraternity was taken aback by the death.
“This is a huge shock. It is always a thing of grief and pain to lose either of one’s parents, no matter how old they were before they passed on. We share in Ahmed Musa’s sorrow at this period and we pray that God will enable him to muster the courage and give him the fortitude to bear the loss. We also pray for the repose of the soul of the departed.
“Ahmed Musa has always shown a high level of dedication and patriotism in all the matches he has played for Nigeria. Everyone is in sympathy with him at this period.”

This is coming days after another lady allegedly stripped and ran mad at the Abkpa area of Enugu, on Tuesday, as she was dropped at Texaco filling station. Sigh!
Anambra State Government on Thursday approved the extension of retirement age for teachers from 60 years to 65 years.
The Head of Service, Harry Udu, said in Awka, the state capital that the extension takes effect from January 17.
According to Mr Udu, the extension affected teachers in primary and post-primary schools.
He urged officers in charge of the Post Primary School Service Commission (PPSSC) and Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) to take necessary steps to notify all teachers of the development.
The search for Emiliano Sala, a pilot and a missing plane was called off on Thursday afternoon without any trace of the missing Cardiff City striker in the English Channel.
The search was called off after a fourth unsuccessful day since the aircraft disappeared off radars on Monday night north of Guernsey. After officials confirmed that the priority of the search changed from a rescue mission to a recovery operation, a statement from police said that Thursday search will focus on coastal areas of the Channel Islands and northern France, yet this turned up nothing linked to the missing aircraft.
Cardiff City have said that they are “realistic” about the fate of Sala, who joined the club in a £15m deal last weekend, and revelations about the aeroplane that was carrying Sala and pilot Dave Ibbotson continue to emerge, including a voice message left by Sala to his friends in Argentina in the final hours before he disappeared complaining about the condition of the plane and his fear for his safety.
