Ambode's Supporters Stage Protest Over Impeachment Plans! THREATENS APC To Leave Him Alone Or Lose Lagos [Photos]

Oh dear! Ambode's supporters are presently at the Lagos Assembly protesting his planned impeachment.

This is coming after lawmakers on Monday, January 28th, accused the Governor of gross misconduct, not signing into law the 2019 budget among others and threatened to impeach him. His supporters are however saying Ambode should be left alone to finish his tenure or else APC will lose Lagos.

Apple's Revenue & Profits Decline For The First Time In Over A Decade As Tim Cook Blames China

Apple on Tuesday posted a rare decline in revenue and profits for the second quarter - the first time it has done so in more than a decade.

CEO Tim Cook cited steep declines in revenue from China and slowing iPhone sales as the main catalysts behind the surprising profit slump.

Revenue for the quarter ended in December came in at $84.3 billion, which is a 4.5 percent decline from the same quarter last year.

Profits slid to $19.97 billion for the quarter, down from roughly $20 billion in the same quarter last year.

Greater China revenue declined a whopping 26 percent compared to last year, with sales in the region coming in at $13.17 billion.

The results came after Cook warned investors this month that the firm was lowering its revenue expectations for the all-important holiday quarter, which is something it hasn't done since 2002.

How Electrician Killed Customer, Hid Corpse Under Bed - Police

A police sergeant, Yusuf Olatunji, on Monday, explained to a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja how a 26-year-old electrician, Lawrence Ikonne, allegedly murdered his customer, Isa Yaya, and hid the corpse under his bed.

Olatunji, who investigated the crime, told the court that Ikonne murdered the deceased by hitting him on the head with a plank, tied his body with a generator cable, covered it with a piece of nylon and ran away.

According to Olatunji, the suspect committed the offence on October 10, 2014, at his residence, No. 16 Afro Close, Afromedia Estate, Okokomiako, Lagos.

Ikonne is facing one count of manslaughter.

At Monday’s proceedings, Olatunji while being led in evidence by the state prosecutor, Monisola Osibogun, told the court that the reason behind the murder was unknown, adding that Ikonne claimed that he killed the deceased when they engaged each other in a fight.

He said, “A complainant, Efeze Omenaka, reported a case of murder around 7pm on October 10, 2014. Omenaka, who is also a caretaker, told us that he returned from the Alaba Market on that day and noticed a reddish liquid substance dripping from the defendant’s room.

“He immediately alerted other neighbours and they all went in search of the defendant but couldn’t find him. The caretaker thereafter called the suspect’s brother, Clement, who was living with him, but was at work at the time.

“When Clement opened the door, the corpse of the deceased was found under the bed, tied up and covered with a piece of nylon.

“I was sent to visit the crime scene, two wings of duplexes demarcated by a fence. The complainant and the suspect were living in the same building but in different apartments.

“Photographs of the deceased were also taken and the corpse was later moved to the mortuary and the suspect’s brother was taken to the station, where he volunteered a statement. But being a murder case, the matter was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti.

“However, the suspect was apprehended a week after the incident at a hotel, where he was hiding.”

Ikonne had stated in his statement to the police that he killed the deceased, when he (Ikonne) invited him to his house to buy an air conditioner and a fight broke out between them.

He had stated, “The deceased came to my house to buy an air conditioner. He helped me to carry the air conditioner from my room to the open in order to inspect it. After inspecting it, we agreed on N5,000 as the sale price. But he later changed his mind and said he wasn’t buying anymore. I felt angry and he also demanded that I should pay him for his services.

“We started arguing and a fight broke out. I then hit him on the head with a plank and he fainted. Out of anxiety, I tied his legs with a cable when I noticed that blood was oozing from his nose. I then found nylon to cover his body and hid his corpse inside my room.”

The presiding judge, Justice Adenike Coker, adjourned the matter till March 19, 2019, for the continuation of trial.

But it was the Staffie who came out on top as hosts Ben Fogle and Sara Cox announced the winners on Britain's Favourite Dogs last night.

The mammoth two-and-a-half hour ITV rundown saw Labradors drop to third place after bagging the top spot last year, with Cockapoos in second.

Schools Closed! Flights Grounded At Manchester Airport As Deep Freeze Hits Britain To Last All Week

Britain faces 'very significant snowfall' this week with temperatures expected to fall to -11C (12F) as the Met Office extended weather warnings today amid school closures and travel chaos that shut a major airport.

Moisture blown in from a storm in France teamed with Arctic winds from the North has led to flurries and sub-zero conditions, with Transport for London activating their cold weather strategy and running de-icing trains overnight.

Manchester Airport was closed this morning as workers desperately tried to clear the runway of snow, with passengers complaining of 'mayhem' as people were stuck on planes and flights redirected to other airports.

A further weather system forecast to arrive tomorrow could break this winter's current record low of -10.8C (12.6F) set on January 18 in Aberdeenshire, and bring up to 4in (10cm) of snow even to parts of southern England.

Yellow weather warnings for snow and ice covered most of the UK today, after the lowest temperature recorded overnight was -6.8C (20F) at Aonach Mor in the Highlands, followed by -6C (21F) at Topcliffe in North Yorkshire.

Snow fell overnight in London, but forecasters said the 'messy' nature of the weather front, which was a mixture of snow, sleet and rain, meant the problems it caused were 'patchy' and not as widespread as feared.

SERIOUSLY? Lagos Assembly Got N28bn As Running Cost

Is it possible for a state house of Assembly to collect as high as N28billion running cost in a country where some states are struggling with about N100bn as budget? Well, an investigation will be necessary.

A civil rights organisation, Legislative Probity and Accountability, has given the Lagos House of Assembly five days ultimatum within which to account for the N28.8bn said to have been collected as running cost under the leadership of Mudashiru Obasa.

The LPA in a statement by its Chairman, Olu Fajana, on Tuesday threatened to mobilise Nigerians of likeminds and use all legal instruments in its disposal to compel the lawmakers to do so.

The organisation premised the planned impeachment of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on the desperation of adversaries to hang on his neck accusation that he had been funding the campaigns of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Jimi Agbaje.

The statement partly read, “It is not our duty to ask the lawmakers not to probe Ambode if he has committed any infraction, but we dare say that Mudashiru Obasa has been collecting N9.6bn each year and has so far pocketed N28.8bn as running cost out of which the members have been paid only N2.4bn in three years.

“Where did the remaining over N26.4bn disappear to?
This is the question that the Lagos House of Assembly must answer and fully account for this taxpayers money before going ahead with their impeach Ambode agenda.

It is alarming that the House collects N800m monthly as running cost, out of which each of the 40 members collects N2m.”

Party Hits Hard On President Buhari

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Uche Secondus, yesterday said President Muhammadu Buhari had become a full-blown dictator and a lawbreaker who continued to violate the nation’s constitution.

The PDP chairman who spoke on Tuesday in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, at the rally organised by the Presidential Campaign Organisation of the party for its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, said Buhari would be rejected at the poll.

Secondus said Buhari lacked the capacity to change, adding that he had come out to be a dictator in spite of the fact that he was a civilian President.

The PDP Chairman said that the party would continue to condemn the brazen violation of the constitution in defiance of the position of the All Progressives Congress that nobody should talk about it.

He said, “Atiku is an achiever who has a lot of awards. We are here to talk to you that Nigeria is at a crossroads.

“Buhari came to power as a civilian but without due process, he removed the head of another arm of government. I am referring to the removal of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Onnoghen.

“APC said we should not talk about the man who is breaking the law, but you cannot continue to break the constitution that guides everybody.”

He accused the Buhari administration of corruption, adding that the Transparency International had said the government was corrupt.

The PDP presidential candidate said the election was about the future of the youth and the country.

He said that the APC had failed Nigerians in all the tripod on which the Buhari administration was elected.

He said that Buhari failed to revive the economy, fight corruption, and insecurity in the land.

The Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, urged the people to vote Atiku who he described as a Nigerian with the desired understanding to restructure the country.

Dickson said Atiku had a good understanding of the problems of the people and should be trusted with the people’s votes.

Jonathan, in his speech, said all Bayelsans must work for Atiku to emerge as President.

The former President said an Atiku/Obi ticket would deal fairly with all the geopolitical zones in the country in appointments and development.

Tinubu Attacks Atiku, Reacts To Buhari's Action

APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, yesterday disputed the democratic credential of former Vice President Atiku Abubkar.

Tinubu berated the Atiku for what he described as
a shallow commitment to democracy, the rule of law and the anti-corruption fight, stressing that his antecedents and current position on the state of the nation lend credence to hypocritical devotion to the cause of liberty and freedom.

He said the former number two citizen, who worked in tandem with his boss, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, to rig elections in five Southwest states, cannot be described as a democrat.

He recalled that, recently, the former vice-president was apologising to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for failing to also rig the 2003 governorship election.

The former Lagos governor chided Atiku for his subjective criticisms of the Buhari administration’s battle against graft, lamenting that he deliberately decided to support those who refused to thread the path of honour and decency.

Tinubu, who reacted to Atiku’s State of the Nation Address, particularly his position on the Justice Walter Onnoghen saga, wondered why the PDP candidate had uncritically confused the suspension of the Chief Justice with removal, thereby confusing members of the public.

He said the PDP flag bearer indulged in disregard for truth, patent misrepresentation, mistatement and self-incrimination, which, instead of exalting him, have made him unfit for the highest office in the land.

Rejecting Atiku’s claim to a life-long defence of democracy, Tinubu said: “his previous life of over seventy years was one of skirting democracy and of blatant impunity in attempting to enshrine reactionary government and installing an unjust political economy.”

Tinubu chided Atiku, who he described to as “my dear and good friend” for a shortfall in historical perception, saying the difficulty he alluded to in his speech about the moment was less significant than the difficulty with his personal memory.

The former governor recalled that Atiku teamed up with Obasanjo to illegally withhold Lagos State’s local government allocations, in utter disregard for court orders.

Tinubu stressed: “When you lorded over Nigeria in tandem with President Obasanjo, there were myriad court orders mandating that your government render to Lagos State the funds due it to improve the lives of its millions of inhabitants.

“Instead, you gladly and without dispute joined Obasanjo in utter disregard for these unambiguous legal verdicts. In so doing, you demeaned the rule of law. You also readily sacrificed the economic development and welfare of millions of innocent people in Lagos just to gain some illicit political advantage that proved to be fleeting and of no avail to you in the end.”

To Tinubu, it is curious that Atiku pontificated on democracy and executive restraint, oblivious of how he kept sealed lips “when Obasanjo improperly removed Senate Presidents more easily than a trendy cad exchanges a pair of shoes or changes the subject of his false affections”.

He said the former vice president’s lamentation for his boss’ failed plot to rig the 2003 poll in the Centre of Excellence, instead of showing remorse, portrayed him as a destructive enemy of popular rule.

Tinubu said the searchlight should be beamed on the curious and strange breed of democracy being professed by the Adamawa-born politician, especially his disposition to the enthronement of an oligarchy for the purpose of enriching his personal friends.

He stressed: “A few weeks ago in a televised broadcast, you even revealed to the people that your official policy envisioned the base enrichment of your friends, should you achieve the presidency.

I must assume that your lifetime as a defender of democracy began after this long record of unjust deeds and even after your latest statement of intent to mould Nigeria into an oligarchy.

“If this is not the case and if all these things you have done and said are consistent with your current notion of democracy, then there is but one conclusion. The democracy you now claim to support remains a rather strange breed of democracy, such as to be nigh indistinguishable from the regressive, rentier political economy you designed and foisted on Nigeria as the crafty lieutenant of the bullish Obasanjo.”

Tinubu also flayed Atiku for stirring controversy and emotions by claiming that Justice Onnoghen, who was suspended, was removed from office by the president.

He said: “Strange that you would choose to depict the current situation so inaccurately as to stir emotions unduly. You claim that CJN Onnoghen has been removed. However, this is not so. He has been temporarily suspended. You and your advisors should know and recognise the vast legal difference between “suspension” and “removal”.

“Yet, you persist in conflating the two in what you say is a pursuit of justice. While true you may be in pursuit of something. It is not justice.

“If justice was your goal, you would acknowledge that the CJN has only been temporarily suspended, not permanently removed. Thus, your recourse to saying that the president violated the constitutional provision regarding the removal of a CJN is inaccurate in that Buhari never intended to remove the CJN.

“What he has done is to have the CJN temporarily get out of his chair so that the serious matters against him can be heard by someone other than himself. Should the charges show themselves to be wrong or unproven, the CJN will be automatically reinstated as the head of the Nigerian judiciary.

“However, for Atiku to state that the CJN should remain on seat while credible and grave charges swirl around him is to put the entire workings of the Supreme Court under a heavy cloud.”

In Tinubu’s view, President Buhari has handled the Justice Onnoghen crisis with restraint, balancing the public concern about the integrity of the judiciary with the concern about the rights of the chief justice.

He said: “It is ironic that Atiku of all people throw such darts at President Buhari. Buhari actually exercised considerable restraint in this matter. He has reasonably balanced concerns about the integrity of the judiciary with concerns for the individual rights of the accused. Nothing has been taken from the CJN that cannot be restored, if the facts warrant such restoration.

“Thus, President Buhari conditionally suspended the CJN. By doing so, this allows for the case to move forward without the CCT or others fearing the CJN might use his position to unduly interfere with proceedings. If the CJN is exonerated, then he will return to his position. If not exonerated, then a more permanent discipline awaits him.”

Tinubu said the President opted for a balanced approach, following the realisation that the constitution does not provide clear and unambiguous guidance on a sensitive matter where the chief justice is the defendant.

He said while Atiku railed against President Buhari because he showed restraint, it is doubtful if he and Obasanjo would have demonstrated tact, if they were faced with a similar situation while in power.

Tinubu said Obasanjo and Atiku “would have put Onnoghen in the stocks or shipped him off to that infamous farm in Ota where he would have begun his new career in plucking poultry.”

He added: “It is curious that Atiku would take up the marker of a jurist who has enjoyed the sweet but hidden benefits of several million dollars of mystery money passing through his secret bank accounts, Even when discovered, these accounts held several hundred thousands of dollars in them.

“Someone in Atiku’s position would normally be wary of a judge thusly tainted. A politician in Atiku’s position should more objectively be concerned that the government would have been the source of the hidden funds or that government would use the fact of the clandestine money as leverage against the judge to make sure he did government’s bidding for surely this is a jurist highly compromised by pecuniary indiscretion.

“It is almost unnatural that an opposition candidate would champion the soiled cause of such a judge who seems to have sold something in exchange for the money found in his vest’s secret pockets.

“Yet, Atiku now cries the anguished cry of a man who thought he had won the lottery only to find he had misread the last number on his claim ticket. Or perhaps these are the tears of a man who thought he had invested in a sure deal only to see the reason for the investment evaporate before his very eyes.

“Now, Atiku and his cohort seek to turn their personal disappointment into a burning national issue. They seek to manufacture a constitutional crisis where none exists.”

Woman Stops To Help Street Beggar, But She Gets R-ped By Him Instead

A woman was raped by a street beggar after stopping to try and help him.

James Campbell, 31, admitted the attack which took place in Glasgow on August 16 last year.

Campbell, who lived with his mother in Paisley, Renfrewshire, was begging in the city when his victim stopped to check on him.

She had noticed he was not wearing a top although it was cold and raining.

The woman, 57, asked him if he was alright and chatted to him for about 10 minutes. Campbell then followed her and refused to go away.

As the woman walked past a lane, Campbell demanded a kiss before restraining and raping her.

Prosecutor Angela Gray said: "He told the woman. 'I love you. I want you to be my girlfriend,' and she replied: 'Don't be daft. I don't even know you.'"

The court heard the woman struggled with Campbell and repeatedly told him: "Please don't," and "There is no need for this."

Miss Gray added: "She repeatedly told him to stop and that he was hurting her. He did not stop and told her to shut up.

"A solicitor working in an office overlooking the lane saw the incident taking place and phoned the police."

Officers arrived to find Campbell raping the woman and dragged him off her.

The woman was visibly shaken and upset.

Campbell told police: "She wanted rough s-x so I gave it to her."

The brutal r-pe was captured on CCTV and was described by Miss Gray as 'graphic'.

She added: "It includes images of the woman and the accused in a state of partial undress."

Judge Lady Stacey placed Campbell, who has been in custody since August, last year, on the s-x offenders' register.

Lady Stacey told Campbell, who has previous convictions: "In light of the seriousness of the crime and your fairly extensive previous convictions I will see if an extended sentence is required."

Sentenced was deferred on Campbell until March 1 to obtain background reports.

Solicitor advocate Alastair Gray will give his plea in mitigation then.
