Singer Waje Reveals Why She Went Into Movies

The prolific singer who debuted as an actor in ‘Tunnel’, alongside Femi Jacobs, Patrick Doyle, Nse Ikpe-Etim, among others in 2018, has revealed why she went into acting.

In a chat with Showtime, the singer who also starred in ‘Battleground’, currently showing on Africa Magic, explained why she accepted her first movie role.

“I accepted my first movie role because when I read the script I fell in love with it. I felt it was an interesting story. I was curious as to how I would play the role because I was to play the role of a lady, Sade, who was married, and I’ve never been married. So, it was interesting to find out how I was going to play the role. It was also about the message in the role, I just wanted to know, and I think it was just curiosity”, she said.

According to her, her first time experience on set was amazing but scary. “It was amazing because I was scared at first, but I tried my best. Nse Ikpe-Etim is like a big sister to me, she has always been a good friend so she guided me all through. She literally coached me as we went on. She and Femi Jacobs made it an easy task for me.”

Social Media Is One Crazy Place - Opeyemi Aiyeola

Popular actress and producer, Opeyemi Aiyeola, was away from the movie scene for a decade after she got married. She later resumed acting in 2017, but while speaking to Saturday Beats, Aiyeola noted that a lot of things had changed in the industry from the time she left in 2007.

Emphasising that success in the industry was determined by talents in those days, she added that climbing the ladder of stardom now has been laced with favoritism.

“Nollywood used to be an industry of talents; unfortunately when I came back, I realised it was no longer a career path of talented people. It is now about social media. It is more about how much money an individual has to spend on publicity and the likes.

“So many people even get undeserved awards these days. Outside the movie set, the industry has become a world of make-believe. For example, everybody expects me to do photo shoots for birthdays and Valentine’s Day and I always wonder what could be the reason behind that. And me, I have responsibilities and children to cater for, so I can’t be doing all that.

“I have family members I am responsible for. It is crazily exciting and frustrating sometimes. It depends on how I handle it, sincerely, if I decide to roll the way they roll, it will be frustrating for me. When I go on social media, I just laugh these days. There was a time I wanted to give up because it was too much for me, I couldn’t cope. A lot of people, who know me, know I am not fashionable.

“There are times I want to go out without makeup or wig, but these days, it is crazy. There was one morning that I was with a colleague and we met this wonderful male fan; he wanted to take pictures with us. My colleague declined because she didn’t have any makeup on, she stressed that the man might tag her on the picture and she didn’t want to be seen like that. I took a picture with him the way I was.

“Interestingly, when he posted the picture on social media, I received a lot of negative comments because of the way I looked in the picture; it can be extremely frustrating. Social media is a world I don’t understand; that is why I am always quiet there. I have the power to delete and block any negative comments; it is that simple. I make conscious efforts not to expose myself to negative news; the good thing is that it will go away with time. I left in 2007; I came back fully in 2017. I did bits of work once in a while before then,” she told Saturday Beats.

AY Comedian Speaks On Zanku Dance, Secret Of His Marriage & How Talent Is Not Enough

The popular street dance, Shaku Shaku, has come and gone and has fast been replaced with another dance, Zanku. However, the origin of  Zanku did not become an issue till popular Nigerian comedian, AY Comedian, claimed on his Instagram page that he was the founder of the dance. To buttress his point, he posted a video of himself dancing at one of his AY live concerts many years ago.

Many people believe that the Zanku dance was made popular by Zlatan Ibile.

But AY Comedian, who has about 4.7 million followers, said, “Anytime the prophet AY comes on stage, he does the Zanku dance. That is Prophet AY’s credit; the origin of Zanku will be thrashed to AY live.”

Following this video, there were speculations that the comedian was aiming to get the credit for the popular dance.

“I am not contesting it (Zanku) with anybody. I just called people’s attention to it jokingly for them to know that I did a similar dance long ago. Let’s leave the credit for the one who made the dance popular. But before River Niger was discovered and named, I am sure there were people who swam in it,” he said.

Asked about how he has been able to stay successful in the entertainment industry, despite not being considered by many people as the funniest comedian in Nigeria, AY said it was a proof that talent is not enough.

“It is good to know that you know AY is not the funniest comedian in Nigeria. Consistency and hard work in many ways have confirmed that talent is not enough. Within the entertainment circle, we all have our strengths and weaknesses.

“It is like saying someone is the best student in mathematics without complementing it with other subjects, you can compare him with the student who gets an average in maths and 100% in other subjects. The general and continuous assessment would push the weaker mathematician towards success, I believe,” he said.

Asked about the secret behind his successful marriage, he attributed it to the grace of God and the fact that he married his friend.

“Staying married is not what anybody can brag about. Some people are just lucky to enjoy grace by marrying their true friends who can tolerate their excesses. My wife and I approach our marriage with the idea that we will both work together on “being married” every day. Staying married for me and my PA (Personal Angel) is a daily work in progress.

“We don’t ignore problems when we first notice them. We work on them before they fester and explode. We try to treat each other like a date and with respect too. We try not to take each other for granted,” he told Saturday Beats.

Bangkok Residents Coughing Blood & Suffering Nosebleeds Due To City’s Pollution Crisis

Bangkok residents have been coughing up blood and suffering nosebleeds due to the city’s pollution crisis.

The Thai capital has been blanketed in a thick smog for weeks, forcing locals to don masks to protect themselves.

Those affected by the pollution have been sharing horrifying pictures of blood trickling out of their noses and in their hands on social media.

Even pets are now suffering from illnesses caused by the smog.

Things have gotten so bad that many shops have run out of pollution masks, with some even fashioning makeshift protection out of their underwear.

Office worker Nutthawut Sirichainarumi shared a photo of blood in his hand after he’d sneezed.

His mask was completely soaked in blood, for which he blamed the dust in the city.

“Two days ago, my nose was hurt when breathing. I sneezed all night and it was the even worse when my sneeze had blood the next morning,” he said.

“I was totally shocked because I never sneezed blood before in my entire life. I believe the dust is to blame.”

Another local, Seine Premmanuspaisal, was diagnosed with a lung infection after vomiting and coughing up blood for three days.

He’d never had respiratory problems before the smog.

“The polluted air also brings germs and viruses that gradually affect our bodies. Even though you think you’re healthy, this horrible environment is going to disturb you in some way.”

A veterinarian from Pet & Aquatic Animal Hospital said a rabbit had been brought in with blood on its nose.

The vet blamed the pollution because the owner’s house was covered with the smog for weeks.

A poodle was also rushed in after losing her voice for several days. An X-ray showed her lungs, trachea and alveoli were covered with dust causing difficulty breathing.

“I hope the story of my dog will alert people about how terrible the pollution is,” the dog’s owner said.

“The dust problem has been going on for a while now and we have no idea when it is going to fade away. All we have to do is protect ourselves and our loved ones.”

On Wednesday authorities announced that 437 schools would be shut.

Popular Prophet, Shepherd Bushiri & Wife Arrested On Charges Of Fraud & Money Laundering

South Africa based Prophet Shepherd Bushiri (originally from Malwai) and his wife have been arrested by the Hawks in Rustenburg on charges of fraud and money laundering.

The Hawks are South Africa’s Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation which targets organized crime, economic crime, corruption, and other serious crime referred to it by the President or the South African Police Service.

According to Bushiri’s facebook page, the arrest took place at 07:00 at Sparkling Waters Hotel in Rustenburg.  Here’s a statement by the Prophet’s media team on facebook.

Important Notice: To all children of the Prophet

This morning, around 07:00hrs in the morning armed members of the police stormed Sparkling Waters Hotel in Rustenburg, South Africa. We were later made aware that they were members of the Directorate for Priority Investigations (HAWKS).

They took the Prophet and our mother Prophetess Mary Bushiri in handcuffs to Pretoria. They have charged our father with fraud and money laundering.

As you will remember, from last year, we have struggled with reports that our father was guilty. We have repeatedly learnt from different media houses that we were under investigation.

At some point accurate reports pointed out the fact that certain people within the police had demanded bribes amounting up to R10 million.

This is a matter that is on record and well known.

He has been detained and is being questioned by the HAWKS in Silverton, Pretoria.

We will give you more updates as we go.

We would like to encourage our members to be steadfast in prayer. This morning we were vindicated through the CRL after weeks of being painted wrong. We urge you to remember that this too shall pass.

Ikoyi Billions: Ex-NIA DG Oke and Wife Missing?

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) could not proceed yesterday with its planned arraignment of former National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Director-General, Ambassador Ayodele Oke and his wife Folasade were absent at the Federal High Court in Lagos as the whereabouts of the couple was unknown.

They were to appear before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, although the case was not formally listed for the day. The court was said have been informed that Oke and wife would not be present as they were not in EFCC’s custody, hence the non-listing of the charge. Prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, was in court to arrange for a new date for arraignment.

It was learnt that the arraignment will now take place on Wednesday, February 6. Unconfirmed reports said they might have left the country.

An EFCC’s spokesman in Lagos, Babatunde Suleiman, confirmed that the case was not listed. He, however, said he was unaware of the whereabouts of Oke and his wife.
Asked about reports that they might have travelled out of the country and whether they were ever in EFCC’s custody, he said: “I can’t comment on their whereabouts, please. But I will get back to you on this.”

Oke and his wife were charged in connection with the $43,449,947, 000 found in Flat 7B, No. 16 Osborne Road, Osborne Towers in Ikoyi, Lagos. Justice Muslim Hassan had on June 6, 2017, granted a final forfeiture order of the funds since no one appeared before the court to claim them.

The four-count charge against the couple was signed by Oyedepo, Nnaemeka Omewa and Idris Abubakar Mohammed. EFCC, in the Proof of Evidence, revealed how Flat 7B was bought for $1,658,000 (N596,880,000). It said one Alhaji Shehu Usman Anka will give evidence of the receipt of the sum of $1,658,000 from the wife of the ex-NIA boss. The anti-graft agency also said that the agency got about $289,202,382.00 from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). It added that one Benjamin Kiksenenso will give evidence of how he was instructed to go to the CBN to collect the $289,202,382.00.

Amaraizu, said the state command, through the operatives of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, had commenced full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged murder of the woman.

He said, “The command gathered that one Kate Nwodo, the first wife of one Simon Nwodo from Amokofia Ukehe in Igboetiti Local Government Area of Enugu State, on January 26, 2019, allegedly killed the first wife with the support of the second wife identified as one Edith Nwodo, over a yet-to-be established issue.

Why Is CCB Hiding Buhari's SGF, Chief Of Staff, Ministers Assets Declaration?

The Code of Conduct Bureau has refused to release copies of asset declaration forms of some prominent Nigerians more than seven days after The Punch sent a letter of request to the bureau.

Relying on the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2011, The Punch had on January 24 written to the CCB asking for copies of asset declaration forms of the...
Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; Minister of Labour, Dr Chris Ngige; Minister of Works, Housing and Power, Babatunde Fashola (SAN); Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu; and Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

Other office holders The Punch sought for their declaration forms from the CCB were Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed; Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh; Minister of State for Transportation(Aviation), Hadi Sirika; Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami; Director-General, DSS, Yusuf Bichi; and Finance Minister, Zainab Ahmed.

In the letter signed by the Punch Head of Abuja Bureau, Olusola Fabiyi, the bureau was also asked to provide the list of defaulters.

The letter read in part, “Beyond the listed political office holders’ asset declaration forms, kindly furnish us with the number and names of political office holders who have yet to fill and submit their asset declaration forms for whatever reasons.

“We will also want to know the number of names of political office holders the Code of Conduct Bureau is investigating over issues relating to asset declaration forms.”

The newspaper also urged the CCB to furnish it with the names of political office holders, who had yet to comply with the bureau’s directive to visit it for verification.

“Based on the provision of the FOI Act, we hope that our request will be granted within seven days of your receipt of this letter,” the letter also read.

But despite a number of reminders during the seven-day period stipulated by the FoI Act, the CCB failed to respond to the letter. As of close of work on Friday, February 1, 2019, the CCB had yet to respond.

When The Punch sought to know the reason for the agency’s action, a top official in CCB simply told a correspondent, “The letter is on the chairman’s table. Can he be forced to respond?”

The FoI letter, which was addressed to the chairman of the CCB, was received by the bureau with a copy acknowledged by the office of the chairman on January 24, 2019.

The FoI Act provides that public institutions must make the information requested available within seven days of receiving the request.

The Act also said failure to give access to the information requested for within the time limit provided by the Act is deemed as a refusal of access.

Agbakoba, other SANs slam FG
Reacting to the development, popular lawyers, especially Senior Advocates of Nigeria, on Friday kicked against the CCB’s action, saying the agency had no legal basis not to respond to the letter even if the request would not be granted.

They said the agency’s decision to keep mum had reinforced rumours and belief that the anti-corruption war was one-sided.

A former president of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, said the information in the asset declaration forms of public officials should be released immediately upon request because they were in the public interest.

He explained that the purpose of the asset declaration form was to enhance probity and public accountability and the information could not be deemed personal.

He said the idea of the CCB releasing the information to an applicant and denying another applicant could not have been done in good faith.

He added, “Generally, the FoI overturns the Official Secret Act and it is to make public information accessible upon request. But there is a proviso that says they (public institutions) can withhold it for good public reasons or in the national interest. But the CCB must state that in its response to the applicant.”

Recall that the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, was suspended based on a petition filed by a civil society group, Anti-Corruption and Research Based Data Initiative. Led by Mr Dennis Aghanya, the group accused the CJN of false asset declaration and other sundry allegations.

Aghanya had said that the ARDI had written a petition against Onnoghen and commenced investigation against the senior judicial officer about a year ago.

But there had been questions over how the organisation got access to Onnoghen’s asset declaration forms if they were not issued to him by the CCB.

Agbakoba said, “Clearly, it shows that the CCB is not acting in good faith. If on one hand, it (CCB) would decline but on the other hand releases information in respect of a very senior government official, like the CJN, it has to justify why it is refusing the request. Clearly, it puts into doubt its intentions.

“Asset declaration form cannot be personal information and if the CCB sees it as one, it is part of the error. The purpose of asset declaration is for probity and public accountability; so, asset declaration is not personal.”

Another Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr Babatunde Fashanu, said the CCB had no legal basis not to honour The Punch’s request.

He said, “There is absolutely no legal basis for the CCB not to honour that request.

“In the first place, the CCB and the CCT are performing an open public function and the people who are filling in their information in these forms are public officers. So, since everything is for the public, what would be their reason not to make it available? I think it should be tested because I see no reason why the CCB should not make the forms public.

“Why are they filling the forms before taking office and upon leaving? Is it not for the public to know that they didn’t steal and that they are not corrupt? If they don’t comply, somebody should go to court.”

Also, a former vice-president of the NBA, Mr Monday Ubani, said it was worrisome the public could not have access to the information domiciled with the bureau despite the FoI Act, noting that the purpose of the asset declaration form was to ensure transparency and accountability in governance.

He said, “There have been several instances where people have applied and they were never given. That is why people are surprised how a private NGO was able to get that of the CJN and that is why people are saying if the NGO has that access, the CCB should also be ready to release the information to people who have requested for information. That again shows some level of uncertainty and duplicity in the application of our laws.”

Another SAN, Chief Mike Ozekhome, said there was no legal basis for the CCB not to provide The Punch with the requested information.

He said, “There is no legal basis. You can go to court. It reinforces what we have been saying that the anti-corruption fight is selective.

“If the dossier of even just one, out of the more than 36 ministers close to Buhari, is exposed, the whole country will be shocked by the haemorrhage that members of the council of executive have subjected Nigerians to.

“Corruption is deeper and more cancerous today than ever before, especially within the executive. One minister’s assets alone, if shown to Nigerians, will make Onnoghen’s $10,000 deposit in local domiciliary account look like child’s play.

“I dare the government and the CCB to throw open to Nigerians the asset declaration forms of the President, the Vice-President and all the ministers so that Nigerians can scrutinise and determine who exactly are the corrupt Nigerians that we have today. You will discover that the first 11 most corrupt Nigerians, to the second 11, up to the third 11 all reside within the executive arm of government in Nigeria today, led by the Presidency. So, I dare them to do that, to show that the anti-corruption fight is not selective.”

FG Denies Plot To Shut Internet During Election

The Federal Government has denied the allegation making the rounds in the media that it had connived with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to work with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the country to shut down Internet access during the forthcoming general elections.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State had yesterday alleged that the Federal Government, through the Office of the National Security Adviser, (NSA) had directed the INEC to work with Internet service providers to shutdown Internet access during the elections.

Wike alleged that shutting down Internet access by NSA and INEC was aimed at facilitating rigging.

Reacting to the allegation, Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) in a statement signed by the Spokesman, Danjuma Reuben, said:

“The attention of the Office of the National Security Adviser has been drawn to the allegation making rounds in the media that the ‘Federal Government, through the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to work with internet service providers to shut down internet access during the forthcoming elections to facilitate rigging of the 2019 elections.’ The Office wishes to advise the general public to disregard the allegation, which is a disinformation.

“This Office, wishes to state that the Internet and associated communications infrastructure are major components of the Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII), which ONSA is mandated to ensure its security.

“Accordingly, the Office in collaboration with relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government makes continuous efforts to protect them and improve service delivery to Nigerians.

Furthermore, every single national security platform in the country rides on the same Internet to function. Therefore “shutting down” the Internet is akin to shutting down national development and security.”

Man Kills His Lover, A Mother Of Five To Steal Her N530k [He’s Pictured]

Operatives of Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 47-year-old man, Kazeem Adebayo who allegedly killed his lover and buried her body inside his room in a bid to steal her aged mother’s N530,000.

According to the police, Adebayo allegedly committed the offence at his Ijebu Igbo residence, on January 24.

Adebayo was said to have invited his lover,  Abosede Adesanya, 30, a mother of five children, whose 84-year-old mother, Amoke, recently sold their land to buy another landed property where they could build a two-bedroom flat for themselves.

Police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement said Adebayo was one of the signatories to the sale of the land and had told the old woman he would assist them in getting a good land where she and her daughter can build their home.

Unknown to the women, Adebayo allegedly had a plan to fleece them of the money which he actualised by phoning the deceased to come to his place with the money that he had seen a good land for them.

Oyeyemi said: “She told her mother and left the house with the money to her lover’s place. When she got there, he hit her on the head with a stick, killed her, buried her in a shallow grave inside his room and took the money from her.

“He was owing someone N30,000 and so, he went and paid off the debt, then kept the rest of the money in his ceiling.

“When night fell and the old woman did not see her daughter, she called her phone but it didn’t go through. She called the suspect and he denied ever calling her. He claimed he has not seen her and so, the woman reported at the Ijebu Igbo Police Station the following day being January 25.

“Policemen were sent to the suspect’s house. He denied seeing the lady. The case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) and findings led detectives back to the suspect in whose room, a shallow grave was uncovered which was dug and the deceased was seen inside.

“It was at this point that the suspect confessed to killing the deceased and that he took possession of the N530,000 on her. He confessed further that he used a club to hit her on the head which led to her death and subsequently buried her in his house so that no one will know.

“He also confessed that he used N30,000 out of the money he took from the deceased to settle an outstanding debt while the remaining N500,000, which was in his ceiling, he told a friend of his to take it out to avoid any search that would implicate him.

“We are currently on the trail of that friend and will get him soon. The corpse of the deceased has been deposited in the mortuary. The suspect would be prosecuted at the conclusion of investigation,” Oyeyemi added.

Tell The People Why You Want To Impeach Ambode - Agbaje Dares Lagos Assembly

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, Jimi Agbaje, has urged the Lagos State House of Assembly to reveal the motivation behind attempt to impeach Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

In a statement issued by Agbaje’s Directorate of Media and Publicity on Thursday, he alleged that the Lagos lawmakers were using the issue of delayed presentation of the 2019 budget as an excuse to carry out an ulterior motive.

He said, “Of course, the way Lagos politics has been structured over the last two decades, government actions are often dictated by open and covert objectives. That the legislators are hinging their action on the purported delay of the budget is simply a smokescreen for a very shameful undertone that the honourable assembly members will not want to make open.

“They are yet to tell us their actual motivation for this superfluous move to shame the Governor.”

Agbaje also expressed reservations about the timing of the impeachment move.

He said, “I received the news of the impending impeachment of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode with a lot of reservation, especially with its timing and motive. This is just 19 or so days to the Federal elections and the governorship, a fortnight thereafter. So the natural questions to ask are: Why this haste? And what is the motive?”

He stated that although the legislature reserved the right to perform oversight functions, “such a responsibility should not be abused. It should be carried out in a manner that places the citizens’ interest above any pecuniary benefit to a vested interest.”

The PDP candidate added, “Governance has ground to a halt owing to the schism between the two arms of government, both of which are dominated by All Progressives Congress. From all indications and from the findings that I have conducted, the action of the lawmakers is nothing but self-serving as dictated to them by the cabal ruling the state.”

Man Kills Girlfriend's Father For Demanding N3m From Him Over S*xual Affair With His Daughter

Strange times. A 50-year old palm wine seller, Matthew Idahosa, has been killed by a supposed lover of one of his daughters from whom he reportedly demanded the sum of N3m as compensation.

Late Matthew was said to have been bitter that the daughter’s lover, Atekha Iyare, a vulcanizer succeeded in sleeping with her.

The incident happened at Oza village in Orhionmwon area of Edo state.

Atekha, aged 50, who was paraded at the State Police Command, said he was shocked that the girl’s father said he would not marry her even if he paid the N3m.

He said the girl is a student and that both of them were lovers.

The suspect said he fled from the village when late Matthew was using policemen to harass him after the love affair bubble burst.

According to him, “I thought the father had forgiven me because I ate rice in their house on Christmas Day. The father brought policemen and the matter was being settled.

“I ran to the bush when the man threatened to kill if I did not pay the money. They told him to give me his daughter if I paid the money but he said 'no'.

“When hunger was too much, I came out and decided to face the consequences. The man saw me while going to the farm and we started fighting. He held a gun while I held a wood.

“When I managed to get the cutlass from him, I cut him on the face and ran away with his motorcycle to avoid arrest. I was arrested by vigilante in Afuze, Owan East local government area.”

Police Commissioner, Hakeem Odumosu, said the suspect would soon be charged to court after investigations have been concluded.
