Rich 'Kidnapper' Evans Loses In Lagos Court

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday struck out a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by alleged kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwamadike (a.k.a Evans), against the police over seizure of his property.

Justice Mojisola Olatoregun held that the court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the case.

She said that the suit ought to have been filed before a Lagos State High Court where the applicant was facing charges of kidnapping.

Evans, through his counsel, Mr Olukoya Ogungbeje, filed the suit in June 2018 and joined as respondents, the Inspector General of Police (IG), the Nigeria Police and IG’s Intelligence Response Team.

The applicant prayed the court to declare that the alleged forceful seizure of his property by the respondents without any court order was illegal and unconstitutional.

He listed some of the property as N500 million, another N500 million, two residential houses located at Magodo, Lagos State, a Brigade wristwatch worth $20,000, necklaces worth $25,000 and five pieces of diamond rings.

Also listed are one Lexus 470, a Grand Cherokee, a Toyota Highlander, 85 Samsung television sets, 45KVA generator, 22KVA generator, 20KVA inverter worth N10 million and five set of freezers.

The applicant had sought an order compelling the respondents to unconditionally release the property.

Evans had also asked the court for an order compelling the respondents to unconditionally unseal and vacate without delay, the two residential houses located at Magodo.

The judge noted that the respondents did not file any defence in spite of being served hearing notices.

She, however, held that when confronted with a claim under the fundamental rights enforcement procedure, it would be important for the court to critically look at the reliefs sought.

According to her, the main issue to be decided is whether the plaintiff’s claim constitutes a violation of his rights under the Fundamental Human Rights (Enforcement Procedure), adding that the right to own a property cannot be denied except for due process of the law.

She held that the applicant failed to show that the property were forcefully seized within the circumstances of his arrest.

“The only conclusion I can draw is that the property were taken consequent upon his trial for kidnapping before the Lagos State High Court."

According to the judge, although federal and state high courts have concurrent jurisdiction, the instant case ought to have been taken to the court where the defendant is facing trial for kidnapping.

Other prayers sought by Evans include an order compelling the respondents to apologise to him and pay him N1billion as damages for the alleged forceful seizure of his property.

Govt. Purchasing People For Buhari's Rally - Galadima

President Buhari's friend and spokesman of the Atiku campaign, Buba Galadima says many of those who make up the crowd seen at venues of recent APC rallies are charades, claiming that the people were paid to attend the presidential campaigns of the ruling party.

Galadima made this assertion while appearing as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

He alleged that at "Every campaign that Buhari goes to in an APC-controlled state, local governments are empowered with twenty to forty-five million naira to purchase people and bring them to these rallies, and suddenly Buhari starts addressing the crowd and they all disappear because they must fulfill the contract for which they were brought in."

The Elder Statesman claimed that in Kaduna, Atiku gathered twice the number that Buhari gathered, adding that the same feat was experienced in Kano.

Presidency To Atiku: Even If Witches Endorse You, You Won't Win The Election

Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, says Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will not win the 2019 election even if witches and wizards endorse him.

Adesina said this in reaction to the endorsement of Atiku by five socio-cultural groups in the country.

Writing via his Twitter handle on Monday, he said President Muhammadu Buhari’s opponents will fail during the elections, no matter whose endorsement they get.

On Sunday, the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Northern Elders’ Forum (NEF), Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Afenifere and Middle Belt Forum (MBF) had adopted Abubakar, saying he had shown that he would restructure the country if given the mandate.

But the Buhari campaign had described the endorsement as a deception, alleging that it was engineered and carried out by PDP supporters and sympathisers.

He said: “These corpses have been in the hospital since 2010, occupying the space.

“Most of them are suspected robbers that Police shot dead and later dumped in the hospital.

“We have published the notice in the media, after which we have commenced the process of disposing the bodies through mass burial.

“We went to court and got the permit. One of the conditions was that we must advertise the intention so that affected persons could come and claim their relation’s body.

“The notification is for one month; but as soon as the one month notice expires, the law permits us to perform mass burial as necessary.”

Let Witches And Wizards Endorse Atiku, He’ll Fall - Femi Adesina

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media & Publicity, Femi Adesina, has condemned the endorsement of PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, by a slew of organisations.

He also warned that even if witches and wizards endorse the presidential hopeful, it would only lead to defeat for him.

It may be recalled that five socio-cultural groups, including the Northern Elders’ Forum, Afenifere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the Pan Niger Delta Forum and Middle Belt Forum had, on Sunday, endorsed Atiku for the forthcoming presidential candidate.

But while the Coalition of United Political Parties describe Atiku’s endorsement as “a fatal blow to President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election bid,” taking to his verified Twitter handle on Monday, the president’s aide had tweeted: “NEF, PANDEF, Afenifere, others endorse Atiku. Let witches and wizards also endorse, if they like. The harder they come, the harder they fall. No beating the Nigerian people.”

What I Ordered Vs What I Got [Photos]

All brides want to look perfect on their wedding day , so most opt for a trial run of their bridal hairstyle in the lead up to the big day.

It gives them the chance to check they're happy with it, work out timings and to make sure it will stay in the entire night.

And it's a very good thing one American bride decided to splash out for one, as what the hairdresser went for wasn't exactly what she had in mind.

The woman took a photo of what she wanted along with her to the salon and handed over more than $100 (about £76). She was horrified by the result and shared the two photos on Facebook to shame the hairdresser. The bride-to-be didn't reveal whether she paid the hairdresser in the post.
