We Don’t Interfere In Electoral Process, EU Replies El-Rufai Over 'Body Bag' Comment

The European Union Election Observation Mission has said its election observers are impartial, did not interfere in the electoral process and operated according to a strict code of conduct.

The Mission stated that it was invited to monitor the 2019 elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, adding that this was the sixth time it was observing elections in the country.

The EU EOM said this in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday by its Press and Public Outreach Officer, Sarah Fradgley, in response to the threat by Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai against foreign election monitors in the country.

The Governor had threatened that foreigners including election monitors who intervene in Nigerian affairs “will go back in body bags.”

But the EU said while the security of its observers was of paramount importance, and would remain under constant review, “EU observers will continue their work across the country in the run-up to and beyond February 16 elections.”

It stated, “We are aware of the comments by the Governor of Kaduna about non-interference by foreigners during a talk show on the elections Tuesday 5 February.

“EU election observation missions give commentary and analysis, and make recommendations about the electoral process. EU election observation missions are impartial, do not interfere in the electoral
process, and operate according to a strict code of conduct.

“While the security of EU observers is of paramount importance, and will remain under constant review, EU observers will continue their work across the country in the run-up to – and beyond – the 16 February elections.”

Man Bags 10 Years Jail Term For Killing Friend Over 2015 Presidential Election

A man, Kamoru  Kushimo, who stabbed his friend to death during an argument over who would win the general election of 2015, was yesterday sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by a Lagos State High Court sitting in Igbosere.

Court Lassa fever epidemic hits Nigeria Justice Sedoten Ogunsanya, sentenced him, after reviewing the facts and evidence before her. She found him guilty of the offence of manslaughter and sentenced him accordingly. Kushimo was arraigned on February 10, 2016, on a count charge of manslaughter preferred against him by Lagos State.

Trouble started after the deceased returned from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, rally to the viewing centre where he and the convict who was supporting All Progressive Congress, APC, started arguing about which would win the 2015, elections.

During their altercation, the convict and the deceased engaged in a fight and the convict told the deceased that it seems the alcoholic bitters he was drinking had intoxicated him so much that he was saying nonsense.

The deceased got angry and went to pick a knife to fight the convict, and the convict too ran to a nearby place to pick a broken bottle and stabbed the deceased on his chest and back, outside the viewing centre, which led to his death.

After the incident, some people, who were also at the viewing centre, tried to take the deceased and the convict to a hospital for treatment.

When the people taking the convict to the hospital were later informed that the deceased was dead, the convict was taken to the Police Station. The prosecutor, Mr. Adebayo Haroun, during arraignment, told the court that the convict committed the offence on November 5, 2014.

He said the convict stabbed the deceased Mubarak Olawale Salau, who was his friend, with a broken larger beer bottle on the chest and the left side of his back. Haroun said that the incident occurred at a viewing centre at Alaafia Street, Alaagba Bus Stop in Lagos at about 9:30 p.m.

So Sad! Katie Price Admits She Needs Help For Son

Katie Price has admitted that she is considering residential care for 16-year-old son Harvey for the first time after struggling to care for him.

Appearing on The Victoria Derbyshire Show today, the mother-of-five revealed that her son had smashed up windows, TVs and eight iPads this year.

"I don't think people realise how hard it is to care for Harvey," she said.

After revealing that her son wet the bed twice a night, she also showed host Victoria Derbyshire the bag of pills she carried around for him and said that without them he would die.

"It's a danger to himself and for the first time ever now I'm thinking he might have to go residential from Monday to Friday," she said. "Because he knows if he kicks off then the driver won't take him to school, he's sussed that out and he's missing out on his education. He just wants to be with me all the time."

"When he's smashing things, the kids are scared because he's big," she said, before pleading with any other viewers who had the same experience.

"It's so hard. I've never had respite, I haven't had a carer, I do it all myself but I'm really having to think about it," she said.
Katie added. "I hate it because he's my life."

This is in stark contrast to what she has said in the past, insisting that her son would always be with her.

Back in 2013, she told Reveal magazine that Harvey, then 11, would "always" be by her side. Really feel sorry for her.

You’ll “Leave Nigeria In Body Bags” If…, El-Rufai Tells Foreign Powers

The Kaduna state governor, Nasir el-Rufai, has urged “foreign powers” who may have been engaged by some politicians to interfere with the Nigerian general elections to jettison the idea because, “they would go back in body bags.”

Governor El-Rufai made the statement while speaking during an NTA Live programme yesterday evening.

He was reacting to the recent statements by United States, European Union and the United Kingdom who showed doubts that the coming elections may not be credible, especially because of the recent suspension of the Justice Walter Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria by President Muhammadu Buhari.

But the governor who said Nigeria is an independent country also added that nobody would come to Nigeria and tell her what to do or how to run her affairs.

According to the governor, “Those that are calling for anyone to come and intervene in Nigeria, we are waiting for the person that would come and intervene, they would go back in body bags.”

“Nobody will come to Nigeria and tell us how to run our country. We have got our independence and we are trying to run our country as decently as possible and we know the history of those countries that are trying to teach us.

“We know their history, we also know their own stages of development and they went through these challenges. So, please, let us work together, let us challenge one another, but don’t lecture us,” Vanguard quoted him as saying.

Remember Brit Who Went On A Drunken Rampage On A Flight? He Has Been Jailed

A Brit who went on a drunken rampage on a flight back to the UK after being sacked from his dream job has been jailed.

Liam Preston, 36, had been offered an exotic new life in Indonesia but discovered he had lost his passport when he arrived in the city of Jakarta and was promptly fired and sent home.

He then got drunk on the 24-hour journey back to Britain, which included two connecting flights in Thailand and India.

When cabin crew tried to confiscate his duty free Jack Daniels whiskey, Preston snapped and threatened to kill them, lol.

The irate conveyor company worker also kissed his biceps as a "demonstration of strength" and warned: "I will smash your face in - I will kill you right now."

Fellow passengers and crew then had to restrain Preston when he jumped from his seat after the plane landed.

Security staff boarded the aircraft and found Preston lying on the floor and refusing to get to his feet.

He then pretended to punch one guard before hugging and kissing him on the cheek.

But Preston then turned violent and headbutted him and spat in his face.

It later emerged Preston, of Corby, Northants, had been offered the post in Indonesia after splitting up with his wife - but misplaced his passport during a connecting flight.

He was made to fly home via connections in Thailand and India after his former spouse agreed to pay for him to fly home on the cheapest route.

At Minshull Street Crown Court, Manchester, Preston wept as he was locked up for six months after he pleaded guilty to being drunk on an aircraft, using threatening and abusive behaviour and assault by beating.

Viral Video: Lawyers Give Edo CP 24 Hours To Investigate Insertion Of Pepper In Girl’s Private Part

The League of Patriotic Lawyers has given Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olusegun Odumosu, 24 hours to unravel those behind the torture and insertion of pepper into a girl’s private part in Benin City over alleged stealing of a mobile phone.

Chairman of the platform and former Student Union President of the University of Benin, Mr. Abubakar Yesufu, who said this in a statement yesterday, also urged the state Director, Department of State Services, DSS, to be involved in the investigation.

A video of the incident, showed the girl being stripped naked by a group of people, who inserted pepper into her private parts for allegedly stealing a phone.

The unidentified girl was heard crying and saying she didn’t steal any phone, while she was being humiliated by the crowd.

Yesufu said: “The League of Patriotic Lawyers has given the Edo State Commissioner of Police 24 hours to arrest and commence prosecution of all the street urchins behind this barbaric, inhuman, wicked, ungodly and unacceptable act, whose video has gone viral on the social media.

“Failure to unravel the perpetrators would lead to serious legal consequences against the various security agencies, especially the Police and Director of DSS in the state. This ungodly act shows that law and order have broken down in Benin.

“We call on the governor, who is undoubtedly unaware of this devilish act, and the Secretary to the State Government, a very hard working and God-fearing man, to ensure that the perpetrators are tracked and punished accordingly.

“We are not concerned about the merit of this case at this moment, but the exhibition of extreme cruelty which is completely alien to our revered culture and tradition.’’

Trump, Kim To Meet In Vietnam Feb. 27

President Donald Trump has announced he will meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Vietnam at the end of February as part of his administration's efforts to roll back the country's nuclear program.

Addressing Congress during his second State of the Union, Trump said his relationship with North Korea's leader is "good" and progress has made in his administration's efforts to achieve peace on the Korean peninsula.

Trump, however, said much work remains to be done and gave an ominous warning about the risks of heightened tensions with North Korea, going so far as to claim that Washington and Pyongyang would be at war if he had not been elected president.

Trump's second face-to-face meeting with Kim will take place on Feb. 27-28, though it is not clear where in Vietnam the summit will be held. Hanoi, the nation's capital, and Da Nang, a coastal resort town, have both been floated as possibilities.

''Six Russian Sailors Seized By Pirates A Month Ago Are Released In Nigeria’’

Six Russian sailors, seized by pirates near Benin’s territorial waters in early January during an attack against the container ship The MSC Mandy, have been released in Nigeria, the Russian embassy in Nigeria told TASS today.

Russian embassy is checking citizenship of six sailors abducted by pirates off Benin. “We confirm that the Russian sailors have been released. They are alive and well,” the source said.

“Measures are being taken for their return home.”

The container ship The MSC Mandy flying the Panamanian flag was attacked near Benin’s territorial waters on January 2. There were 24 people, mostly Russians, on board.

Six of them, including the captain, were taken hostage. The Russian embassy in Benin later said that all of those seized were Russian citizens. Some observers later speculated that the pirates must have been Nigerians and the kidnapped Russians should be looked for in Nigeria.

Ariana Grande Pulls Out Of Grammy Awards Performance And May Not Attend Ceremony

Ariana Grande has reportedly pulled out of performing at the Grammy Awards ceremony after colliding with the show’s producers.

The singer has appeared on billboards across the United States promoting the Grammys, which takes place on Sunday, 10 February.

Sources tell Variety that Grande may not even attend the ceremony after she felt “insulted” by producers, who initially refused to allow her to perform her new single “7 Rings” from the upcoming album Thank U, Next.

After coming to a compromise – allowing Grande to perform the single as part of a medley – the 25-year-old cancelled completely as producers wanted to choose the second song she would play.

The source claims that stipulations were not placed on other performers at the show.

Grande has been nominated in two major Grammy categories, including Best Pop Vocal Performance for “God is a Woman” and Best Pop Vocal Album for Sweetener.
