Search Team Recovers A Body From The Wreckage Of Sala's Plane But Can’t Tell If It’s Him Or Pilot

A body has been recovered from the wreckage of a plane which crashed into the English Channel with Cardiff City striker Emiliano Sala on board.

The plane flying from Nantes, France to Cardiff on January 21 went missing with the new £15million signing Sala and pilot David Ibbotson, 59, inside.

It remains unclear whether the body is that of the Argentine forward or Mr Ibbotson but a full examination by a coroner in Portland, Dorset, is due to take place.

Remotely operated Vehicles (ROVs) were used in 'challenging conditions' to pull the body out of the water 'in as dignified a way as possible', the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) said on Wednesday night.

The Piper Malibu aircraft remains more than 200 feet below water and is 21 miles off the coast of Guernsey in the English Channel as poor weather conditions stopped efforts to recover it.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) said: 'Following extensive visual examination of the accident site using the remotely operated vehicle (ROV), it was decided to attempt recovery operations.

'In challenging conditions, the AAIB and its specialist contractors successfully recovered the body previously seen amidst the wreckage. The operation was carried out in as dignified a way as possible and the families were kept informed of progress.'

A source told The Sun: 'The fact they are working out in the gym as a couple shows they're actually taking things to the next level.'

The insider added: 'Not everyone would get on board with Liam's quirky ways, but it seems Naomi was only too keen to join in by taking the picture of him with chains draped round his neck.

And the fact they're working out together proves the romance is more serious than anyone thought', they added.

The supermodel's personal trainer Joe Holder shared an Instagram clip of her engaging in an intense work out session, before posting a snap of his shoes beside lifting chains - similar to the equipment around Liam's neck.

BRT Bus Crushes Teenager To Death In Lagos

A Bus Rapid Transit vehicle belonging to Primero Transport Services Limited knocked down 18-year-old Adanne Isaac and killed her on January 27, 2019.

Punch Metro gathered that Adanne, who had gone to grind pepper somewhere around the Irawo bus stop, was on her way home to change her clothes that were stained by pepper when one of the BRT buses plying the route knocked her down as she attempted to cross the dedicated BRT lane.

It was learnt that the driver of the bus fled the scene of the accident when some angry people, who were pained by the loss of life, descended on the bus and attempted to set it ablaze.

Adanne’s lover, Daniel Ondor, who said he spoke to the deceased earlier that day, added that he fainted when he got to the scene of the accident and realised that Adanne  was the victim.

The Benue State indigene stated, “I was home when she called me that she wanted to follow her aunt to the church. When they came back from the church, she informed me that she needed to cook for her aunt. So, she went to grind the pepper and in the process, the pepper poured on her clothes and that was what made her to decide to go back home to change her clothes.

“She was on her way home for the change of clothes when the BRT bus knocked her down as she attempted to cross the road.

“Immediately the accident happened, the driver abandoned the bus and ran away. People around the accident scene took her phone, found my number stored on it as ‘My Love’ and called to inform me to come to the scene to identify her body. And when I got there and found out that the corpse was that of my girlfriend, I fainted.

“What I saw was very bad; the bus had tore her into pieces and till date, I am still in shock. I really sympathise with her family and Ì have been with them until they will take her remains to the village.”

The deceased’s stepbrother, Martins, said the management of Primero Transport Services Limited had contacted the family, offered assistance for the burial arrangements of the victim and promised insurance compensation after the burial.

Martins stated, “Somebody at the scene of the accident informed us that a girl was knocked down by a BRT bus. When they mentioned her name as Addane Isaac, I immediately told them that she was my stepsister. The following day, my younger brother and I went to the scene of the accident and we were directed to the police station in charge of the case.

“When we got there, the police called the management of the BRT firm and the representatives came. They promised that in line with the company’s policy, they were going to assist us to take her corpse home. So, they gave us N200,000 for the burial arrangements and also promised to compensate us from the insurance cover after the burial.

“We have informed our parents and our plan is to take her remains to our village in Ebonyi State. I feel very bad; her death was very painful; she was 18 years old and just finished her secondary school education.”

The Chief Security Officer, Primero Transport Services Limited, Cletus Okodolor, while commiserating with the family of the deceased, said the driver accidentally knocked down Adanne, who had crossed the BRT corridor without looking properly.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, who confirmed the accident to Punch correspondent, said the command had commenced investigation into the matter

PDP Demands Extension Of PVC Collection Time

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) by three days.

It said its demand is predicated on reports across the nation that “some compromised” INEC officials at the collection centres are deliberately refusing to issue the PVCs to voters thereby frustrating millions of registered voters from getting their voters cards.

A statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by Kola Ologbondiyan National Publicity Secretary and Director, Media & Publicity PDP Presidential Campaign Organization said the party believes that this deliberate refusal to release the PVCs is part of the wider plot by the APC to disenfranchise millions of Nigerians and frustrate their eagerness to vote out President Muhammadu Buhari at the February 16 Presidential election and elect-in the peoples candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Update On Pretty Lady Tortured Over A Phone & Stripped

The League of Patriotic Lawyers has given Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olusegun Odumosu, 24 hours to unravel those behind the torture and insertion of pepper into a lady’s private part in Benin City over alleged stealing of a mobile phone.

Chairman of the platform and former Student Union President of the University of Benin, Mr. Abubakar Yesufu, who said this in a statement, also urged the state Director, Department of State Services, DSS, to be involved in the investigation.

A video of the incident showed the lady being stripped by a group of people, who inserted pepper into her private parts for allegedly stealing a phone.

The lady was heard crying and saying she didn’t steal any phone, while she was being humiliated by the crowd.

Yesufu said: “The League of Patriotic Lawyers has given the Edo State Commissioner of Police 24 hours to arrest and commence prosecution of all the street urchins behind this barbaric, inhuman, wicked, ungodly and unacceptable act, whose video has gone viral on the social media.

“Failure to unravel the perpetrators would lead to serious legal consequences against the various security agencies, especially the Police and Director of DSS in the state. This ungodly act shows that law and order have broken down in Benin.

“We call on the governor, who is undoubtedly unaware of this devilish act, and the Secretary to the State Government, a very hard working and God-fearing man, to ensure that the perpetrators are tracked and punished accordingly.

“We are not concerned about the merit of this case at this moment, but the exhibition of extreme cruelty which is completely alien to our revered culture and tradition.’’

Dismissed Soldier Who Works For A Governor Arrested For Alleged Armed Robbery (Photos)

Police operatives on stop and search duty at Nyanya, a satellite town in the FCT, Abuja, have arrested one Tochukwu Nwodo, 32, and his accomplices, Gabriel Ileso, 32, and Michael Damelak, 20, for being in possession of a fabricated pistol and three live ammunition.

The FCT Police Command said the suspects confessed during interrogation that they were on the way to a robbery operation with the firearm, which was allegedly supplied by a dismissed soldier, 32-year-old Friday Audu.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma, said two fabricated pistols, 11 rounds of live ammunition, an expended ammunition and some military uniform and accouterments were recovered from them.

While speaking to journalists, Audu, who was dismissed from the army along with over 300 others for mutiny in Maiduguri, Borno State, last year, said he knew nothing about the recovered pistols.

He accused one of his co-suspects, whom he claimed was his friend, of implicating him in the crime. He, however, admitted ownership of the military uniform.

Audu explained the reason he did not return the uniform to the army.

He said, “I was dismissed for mutiny alongside other soldiers in Maiduguri; the military uniform and boots are mine; I kept them in my house in Abuja, while living in Anambra State, where I work as a bodyguard to Governor Willie Obiano.

“It is not true that I was planning to carry out a robbery with the other suspects. I was arrested through one of the suspects, who is my friend."

Excited Goalkeeper Runs Off Pitch To Be With His Wife As She Gives Birth To Twins

Newport goalkeeper Joe Day quickly put their famous win over Middlesbrough behind him as he sprinted off at the final whistle to be with his wife as she gave birth to twin girls.

The 28-year-old helped the League Two side deliver a huge upset - setting up an FA Cup fifth-round clash with Manchester City - before running into the Rodney Parade dressing room to dash off to be with his new family.

Day rushed away to join his wife - with manager Michael Flynn's praise for his "professionalism" ringing in his ears - who gave birth to baby girls during the first half and half-time of Tuesday night's tie.

A picture shared on Twitter put the birth times at 8.13 and 8.35 - with the game kicking off at 7.45.

The club posted a tweet yesterday morning congratulating the stopper and revealing mum Lizzie and the girls are "all healthy and looking forward to the fifth round".

Flynn had earlier praised Day for staying focused on the game, saying: "The professional he is, he turned his phone off. I didn’t hide it, believe it or not, he turned his phone off.

"As soon as the game was over and we’d won, he said thank you so much gaffer, ‘can I go please?’ I said, 'of course you can, do you need a lift?’."

Woman Arrested By EFCC Over Alleged Fraud (Photos)

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Office, has arraigned Abayomi Samuel Onajala and Adewunmi Yetunde Iyabo before Justice L. P. Lifu of the Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo, on a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy and money laundering.

One of the counts reads: “That you,
Abayomi Samuel Onajala and Adewunmi Yetunde Iyabo (Ayo George and Tunde Benjamin both at large) on or about March 25, 2018 at Ile-Ife within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, conspired to directly take possession of money, from United States of America, which to your knowledge were proceeds of unlawful act to wit: Money Laundering and thereby committed an offence...”

They pleaded “not guilty” to the charges.

Prosecuting counsel, Sanusi Galadanchi, informed the court that his witnesses were in court and that he was ready to proceed with the trial.

However, counsel for the first defendant, A.A. Bayo, told the court that he was not ready for trial because “the extra-judicial statement in the proof of evidence is not clear and therefore needs a clearer copy”.

He thereafter moved his application praying the court to grant the first defendant bail. Counsel for the second defendant, Joseph Adeoye also aligned himself with Bayo.

Justice Lifu, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N5 million and two sureties in like sum. One of the sureties must be a civil servant not below grade level 14 and the other surety must be a land owner within Osogbo, Osun State.

The case has been adjourned to February 15, 2019 for trial and the defendants ordered to be remanded in Ilesa Prison pending the perfection of their bail conditions.

It was gathered that last week, Paschal Onyilo, a native of Abatete in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State, was driving to Obosi area to set up his sound equipment for an event.

It was learnt that Paschal held the boy and requested that he should take him to his parents as he drove him in his car.

Meanwhile the other children who had escaped – raised an alarm that a certain man had ‘kidnapped’ one of them.

El-Rufai’s ‘Body Bag’ Comment: PDP Threatens Peace Accord Pullout

Following comments by Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna state that any foreigners who may interfere in Nigeria’s electoral process would be returned in “body bag,” the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today threatened to pull out in the peace accord it signed with other political parties.

The Kaduna Governor while appearing on NTA’s Tuesday Live programme, and speaking on the recent statements by the United States, United Kingdom and the European Union to sanction those that may interfere in the coming election, said: “Those that are calling for anyone to come and intervene in Nigeria, we are waiting for the person that would come and intervene, they would go back in body bags.”

But addressing a press conference in Abuja today over the matter, Kola Ologbondiyan, National Publicity Secretary and Director, Media & Publicity PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, said the party considered that the governor’s remark as directly inimical to a peaceful, free and fair election.

He stated that the PDP is therefore left with no option than to consider a review of its signatory in the national peace accord if no action is immediately taken to curb this trend.

Ologbodiyan added: “Nigerians are still in a shock over comments by the Governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, who declared on national television that members of the global democratic institutions that are working for a peaceful election in Nigeria will return to their countries in body bags. What a threat?

“We call on the international community to immediately impose a travel ban on el-Rufai for this inciting comment against peaceful elections in our country.”

The party also noted what it said is the plot to redeploy, a former Chief Security Officer to APC leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, CP Kayode Egbetokun, as Kwara state Commissioner of Police, “where he has been handed the instruction to incite the people, cause pandemonium and pave the way for outright rigging in favour of President Buhari and all other candidates on the platform of APC.”

According to the party this is in line with plans by the Muhammadu Buhari Presidency and the APC to effect a mass deployment of top security officers, particularly the police, “to intimidate, harass and manhandle Nigerians that will not support the self-succession bid of President Muhammadu Buhari as well as aiding APC thugs to snatch ballot boxes and orchestrate violence in the elections.”

We Don’t Interfere In Electoral Process, EU Replies El-Rufai Over 'Body Bag' Comment

The European Union Election Observation Mission has said its election observers are impartial, did not interfere in the electoral process and operated according to a strict code of conduct.

The Mission stated that it was invited to monitor the 2019 elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, adding that this was the sixth time it was observing elections in the country.

The EU EOM said this in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday by its Press and Public Outreach Officer, Sarah Fradgley, in response to the threat by Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai against foreign election monitors in the country.

The Governor had threatened that foreigners including election monitors who intervene in Nigerian affairs “will go back in body bags.”

But the EU said while the security of its observers was of paramount importance, and would remain under constant review, “EU observers will continue their work across the country in the run-up to and beyond February 16 elections.”

It stated, “We are aware of the comments by the Governor of Kaduna about non-interference by foreigners during a talk show on the elections Tuesday 5 February.

“EU election observation missions give commentary and analysis, and make recommendations about the electoral process. EU election observation missions are impartial, do not interfere in the electoral
process, and operate according to a strict code of conduct.

“While the security of EU observers is of paramount importance, and will remain under constant review, EU observers will continue their work across the country in the run-up to – and beyond – the 16 February elections.”
