Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, Wednesday night mocked the All Progressives Congress (APC) over their “incessant replacement” of police commissioner in Kwara state.
He spoke in reaction to deployment of Kayode Egbetokun, former Chief Security Officer to APC national leader, Bola Tinubu.
Saraki while addressing his supporters during the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) rally at Balogun Fulani ward in Ilorin south local government area of the state said “they (the opposition) are scared to come and meet our people that is why they are busy changing police commissioner every day but that won’t change our peoples resolve to continue to support us.
“The support we received shows that we are on ground with the people and they are still fully supporting us.
“Let other party come and meet our people and see if people will receive them the way they received us.
“We are always with the people unlike them who are usually home during elections to deceive our people.
“If the APC is popular as they claim let them come home and show their strength just like we did. They cannot intimidate our people with police.”
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara has disowned campaign posters circulating in parts of the state promoting him as the Kwara South Senatorial Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governor spoke via a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Muyideen Akorede.
Mr Ahmed described the posters as fake since they were not approved, sanctioned or sponsored by him as he was no longer the PDP Kwara South senatorial candidate.
He said he stood by his earlier decision to concede the PDP Kwara South senatorial ticket to the incumbent senator, Rafiu Ibrahim, in the interest of equity and fairness.
Mr Ahmed added that he subsequently formally withdrew from the senatorial race in full compliance with the provisions and processes specified by the Electoral Act.
The governor said that on the basis of that decision, he had since campaigned for Mr Ibrahim and could, therefore, not have authorised the fake campaign posters. Lobatan!
The Lagos State government has asked the British Museum to return the Lander Stool, believed to be the first object taken from the country during the colonial period, artnet.com is reporting.
The historic wood carving was taken from Nigeria in 1830 by an English explorer, Richard Lander.
The art market website referenced a statement from Lagos State, which stated
that the item would go on display in the redeveloped John K. Randle Centre of Yoruba History and Culture, due to open in Lagos later in the year.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Tourism & Culture, Steve Ayorinde, explained that the centre, which will be “a befitting home” for the artefact, is nearing completion in Lagos.
The Lander Stool, which is currently at the British Museum, would be a focal point of the exhibition of the centre when it opens later in the year.
Speaking at the British Museum, Mr Ayorinde said the Lander Stool is just the first ‘key artefact’ Nigeria will be requesting.
He noted that discussions are also unfolding with the Musée du quai Branly in Paris.
“Africa is now taking seriously the need to have befitting homes and facilities and structures that can welcome what we believe will be the beginning of the return of some of the works that are here,” he said.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal Office, has arrested five suspected Internet fraudsters, and also recovered N31 million from them.
The suspects – Paul Duru, Daniel Effiong, David Gold, Moses Gold and Eke Kelechi, were arrested following a petition received by the EFCC from a new generation bank.
The bank had observed suspicious transactions on an account belonging to Duru, after he received N63 million.
He was subsequently arrested by operatives of the EFCC. His arrest led to the apprehension of the other suspected fraudsters.
Investigations revealed that Duru was hired by Effiong, a “catfisher”, who presented himself as Arbara Williams, a 27-year-old Caucasian.
A “catfisher” is an individual who uses the Internet, and in particular, online dating websites to lure people into romance scam.
Duru allegedly had a ‘picker’ in the United States, one John T. Benn, who received money in dollars and sent to him.
On his part, Effiong established a relationship with one Sung Yong Hwa, a Korean and Peter Davito, a Canadian.
The others were arrested for allegedly involving in love scam. They will soon be charged to court.
A newlywed couple in Kuwait recently made history for having the shortest marriage in the country’s existence. They decided to go their separate ways just three minutes after getting married.
Last month, Kuwaiti media reported the bizarre case of a couple who ended their marriage before even leaving the courthouse they got married in. The two had just signed their marriage contract in front of a judge and were walking out of the courthouse when the bride accidentally tripped.
Instead of helping her up, the groom reportedly insulted his wife by calling her “stupid” for slipping.
That was apparently too much for the woman to bear, so she turned around and asked the judge to dissolve their marriage on the spot. They had been married for only three minutes.
According to Q8 News, this was the fastest divorce in the history of Kuwait, and probably of the whole world. We’ve seen similar cases before, like this Dubai couple who got divorced 15 minutes after getting married, but three minutes? That’s going to be hard to beat.
The news of this record-breaking divorce went viral on Twitter last week, with most commenters joking and ridiculing the couple for wasting the judge’s time. Some, however, took the bride’s side, saying that she made the right call. If the groom insulted her so early into their marriage, who knows what he would have done later on, one person wrote.
“If this is how he acts right at the beginning, it’s better to leave him,” one Twitter user commented.
A marriage with no respect, is a failed one right from the beginning,” another one added.

The police have arrested a member of the gang that allegedly robbed and killed an hotelier and her manager. The nabbed suspect has opened up on how the evil act happened.
Olusola Olusoga, who owned Etashol Hotels and Suites in Ojodu, Lagos, and the manager, Tunji Omikunle, were strangled on January 25 at the hotel.
Outgoing Lagos police Commissioner Imohimi Edgal at the command headquarters in Ikeja yesterday, said the suspect, Ehizojie Vincent, carried out the act with others at large.
He said the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage available to the police showed the role played by each of the suspects.
The plan to rob the late hotelier, he said, was hatched by Vincent and four other workers of the hotel. The others are Henry Lolo, Okechi Light Ezi, Dubai and Dangote.
Vincent was arrested in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he fled to after the dastardly act. “We all agreed that we had no future in the company because we believed our employers were miserly,” he said.
He said they resolved to rob the late hotelier of her local and foreign currency, being a London returnee.
To have a hitch-free operation, Vincent said they chose Lolo, to prepare Indomie noodle, laced with a sleep inducing stimulant called SK, to be served for the workers.
“Our plan worked, as we successfully sent the other workers to sleep, except the late manager, who was already asleep before he could be served with the drugged meal,” he added.
Edgal said the suspects’ attempt to steal the key to the late hotelier’s bedroom from the late manager’s pocket failed, as he woke up and struggled with them at the reception.
The manager, he said, was strangled during the scuffle, adding that after strangling him, they searched his pocket, but couldn’t find the key. They then went upstairs to the late hotelier’s room and forced the door open.
The police boss said they met the woman in the room and bound her hands and legs.
“By the time they were through, the woman had died. The suspects stole her N50,000, jewellery and other personal effects, but could not take them out of the hotel for fear of being challenged by the police team stationed close to the hotel. So they abandoned the loot in the hotel, which have been recovered,” Edgal said.
He said efforts were on to arrest the fleeing suspects.
Men of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested one Longbab Bouguen for allegedly r*ping a prophetess (name withheld) at the Agbogbo area of Akure.
The suspect, who was apprehended along with an alleged accomplice, Daniel John, was also said to have forcefully collected money from the woman after r*ping her.
Speaking on the arrest on Wednesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Femi Joseph, explained that the victim was returning home around 8.30pm on the fateful day when she was attacked and dragged into the bush by Bouguen, who forcibly had canal knowledge of her.
Joseph said, “One prophetess of the Celestial Church of Christ located in the Agbogbo area, along the Akure/Owo Expressway, reported that a security guard, Longbab Bouguen, suddenly dragged her to a secluded area and forcefully tore her pants in order to have sexual intercourse with her.
“The suspect threatened the victim by brandishing a cutlass and knife, while putting on dark eye glasses and also dispossessed her of the sum of N700, which he consequently shared with a fellow security guard, Daniel John.”
The prophetess told The Punch that the suspect attacked her in the evening while she was going to the church.
The victim narrated, “I discovered that he was following me when I was going to the church and suddenly he grabbed me from the back and dragged me to one corner; I struggled with him but he overpowered me and showed me a knife, threatening to kill me if I shouted.
“I didn’t want him to stab me, because there was nobody around to rescue me. As he was struggling with me, he tore my clothes and my pants; I didn’t allow him to penetrate so he ejac-ulated on my body. Thereafter, he collected the money on me before allowing me to go.”
Confessing to the crime, the 39-year-old Bouguen attributed his action to the devil, adding that he could not explain what came over him.
“Though I attacked her and tore her clothes and pants, I had not penetrated her before I ejaculated on her body. I allowed the woman to go after collecting the sum of N700 on her,” Bouguen confessed.
He, however, said John was not involved in the act, explaining that he only gave him a part of the money he collected from the victim.
“When he (John) came to me begging for money for food, I gave him N200 out of the money I collected from the woman, because he was hungry. He knew nothing about the act,” the suspect explained.
The PPRO said Bouguen would soon be charged to court after the completion of investigation.
Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano state has ordered suspension of renovation works at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, in order to pave way for the campaign rally of Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governor had come under sever criticism in the last 24 hours over the directive that the stadium be shut down, allegedly to frustrate Atiku.
A source had said the facility was closed to frustrate the presidential rally of the PDP scheduled for February 10 but Abbati Sabo, spokesman of the sports commission, denied this, saying it was meant for repair of the facility ahead of the 2019-2020 Nigeria Premier League (NPL) season.
In a statement on Wednesday, Muhammad Garba, commissioner for information, said the contractor in charge of the renovation had been directed to remove all equipment from the the stadium till after the PDP presidential rally.

The prime suspect in a case where a lady was seen n-de in a viral video and pepper later inserted into her vagina has been arrested. According to a lawyer, Jefferson Uwoghiren who has been following the case from day one, the suspect was arrested yesterday evening.
According to reports, the lady and a man were said to have gone into a hotel to have a nice time, shortly after the affair, the man declared his phone was missing. The lady was searched and nothing was found on her. He then took her to a supposed native doctor who said she actually stole it. She denied this. The ‘doctor’ and others around then decided to strip her naked, inserted pepper into her private part and even r-ped her, Mr Jefferson claims.
Below is the update he gave last night on the very very sad incidence. God bless the police, God bless Mr Jefferson… justice on the way! YES!!
The middle aged man that mobilized thugs and street animals to rape and sexually molest a young girl in a trending video has been arrested. He was arrested this evening, along with the manager of a hotel he lodged briefly.
His arrest this evening, opened the lid on the motive and participants involved in the sordid attack. The suspect was temporarily and amorously linked with the victim and subsequently complained of a missing phone. He collared the victim to a native “doctor”, around Ugbiyokho area of Ekehuan Road, Benin City, to determine the culpability of the victim.
As customary with these fake and useless native “ doctors “, the victim was instantaneously pronounced guilty and asked to produce the missing phone. Victim’s denial and protest fell on deaf ears. The suspect, native “ doctor” and apprentice native “ doctors” pounced on the victim , beat her up, striped her naked, and procured granulated chilly pepper, popularly called “ Akpoko” in local language and inserted it into the victim’s private, all dramatically caught on video.
A massive manhunt is on for the fake and useless native “ doctor” and his apprentices .

Ferdinand Orbih, counsel to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the political matter involving PDP, the ruling party, APC, and the electoral commission, INEC in Rivers State, says he has withdrawn his legal services to the party.
Mr Orbih, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, announced his withdrawal on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, during the Court of Appeal sitting.
He said his withdrawal from the political matter was personal and on “compassionate grounds”.
The counsel had on February 5 argued that the court should not entertain APC’s appeal against the judgment of Justice Kolawole Omotosho of the Federal High Court Judgment of January 7, barring APC from presenting candidates for the general elections.
Mr Orbih had argued that APC brought the lower court record of proceeding directly, instead of through the court registrar.
He said his withdrawal did not affect the applications he had filed before the court.
“My name is on the applications,” he said, highlighting that it was the withdrawal of appearance and not (the) withdrawal of any application.
“If there is the need to contribute, I will. I am not a frivolous person,” he said.
Prince Azunda and Mustapha Ibrahim, counsel to APC, argued that there should be “consequence for the withdrawal”.
They contended that Mr Orbih’s withdrawal amounted to a defeat of his applications.
“There must be a consequence of his withdrawal,” they said.
Ruling on the issue of withdrawal, Justice Ali Gumail, the lead judge, said it was the SAN’s constitutional right. ‘‘There is no urgency in this matter,” he said.
The court adjourned until February 13, for pending motions to enable PDP to get a replacement for Mr Orbih.
The SAN told reporters outside the courtroom that there was “no” undercurrent in his withdrawal, adding that he had his “professional philosophy.”
