Guys Who Disgraced & Stripped A Lady Over Phone Nabbed

The man who allegedly mobilized thugs to molest, torture and insert pepper in a lady's private parts over alleged phone theft in a trending video, has been arrested.

According to Barrister Jefferson Uwoghiren, the man was arrested along with the manager of a hotel he lodged briefly in Benin City, Edo state.

The suspect was temporarily and amorously linked with the lady
and subsequently complained of a missing phone. He forced the victim to a native “doctor”, around Ugbiyokho area of Ekehuan Road, Benin City, to determine the culpability of the victim.

The victim was instantaneously pronounced guilty and asked to produce the missing phone. Her denial and protest fell on deaf ears.

The suspect, native “doctor” and apprentice native “doctors” pounced on the victim, beat her up, stripped her, and poured grounded chilly pepper, popularly called “Akpoko” in local language and inserted it into the victim’s private part, all dramatically caught on video.

According to reports, a massive manhunt is on for the native “doctor” and his apprentices.

The League of Patriotic Lawyers had earlier given Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olusegun Odumosu, 24 hours to unravel those behind the torture of the lady.

We Are Worried Over Latest Security Deployment - Civil Society

Clement Nwankwo, convener of the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, has expressed concern over the recent redeployment of security operatives across the 36 states.

“If there’s some perception that security officials may be partisan, then I think responsible authorities should ensure that they are not included in election arrangement,” he said.

“So, the worry we have is why this deployment or changes are being made seven days to an election, and I think that’s the beat of the worry.”

He said this at a pre-election training organised by the Situation Room and TheCable on Thursday in Abuja.

Ahead of the election starting February 16, the Police Service Commission (PSC) redeployed police commissioners across the country.

In January, the United States had raised concern over the handling of security in the elections.

He also wondered the involvement of the military in the election, raising skepticism over the development.

5 Persons Killed, Atiku's Billboards Destroyed During Buhari's Campaign

At least five persons were on Thursday feared killed and many injured in Taraba during President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign in the northeastern state. Two were said to be in critical state.

Governor Ishaku’s convoy was also attacked on its way out of the
Danbaba Suntai Airport where he, his deputy Haruna Manu and other officials of the government went to see off the president at the end of his rally.

All of the governor’s posters and billboards and those of Atiku Abubakar in the State capital, Jalingo, were mutilated.

Bala Dan Abu, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Governor Darius Ishaku, who confirmed the incident, condemned the “unfortunate bloodletting” and faulted security agents for negligence of duty.

Abu, who briefed reporters in Government House said: “The deputy governor’s car and several other cars in the convoy, including that of the commissioner of police and a Special Adviser to the governor, were damaged.

“The thugs, most of whom were imported from neighbouring states to create the false impression that APC enjoys a large following in the state, came heavily armed.

“They carried guns, cutlasses and sticks, which they displayed openly and in the full glare of security agents who merely looked the other way,”
 Abu said.

The governor’s media chief also accused the “APC thugs” of going round Jalingo metropolis and destroying PDP posters and billboards.

“They were given cover by the security agencies who fired gunshots to scare away those who may dare to confront them... The Taraba State government will no longer fold its arms while innocent people are being killed and maimed,” Abu said.

Fathers Are Getting Their Daughters Pregnant In Edo - Commissioner Cries Out

Edo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Magdalene Ohenhen, has raised the alarm over rising cases of men having s*x with their own daughters in the state.

She raised the alarm on Wednesday when she joined a protest to the NUJ Press Center in Benin, to demand justice for 17-year-old Gift Alonge, who was impregnated by her father.

The protest was organised by Brave Heart Initiative for Youth and Women (BHI), headed by Lady Grace Osakue.

The victim was allegedly impregnated in 2017 by her biological father, Jacob Alonge, who forced her to procure crude abortion, before impregnating her again in 2018.

“It’s a very sad situation. Edo State is becoming something else, and the earlier we stop it, the better for us. It is becoming a normal thing in Edo State for men to impregnate their own daughters."

She said there was another case of a man who slept with his own daughter for over 10 years before the case was reported.

“Men of Edo State, it’s time we stopped all this. Edo State forbids it, it is a taboo. We are begging Edo men to stop sleeping with their daughters, it is an abomination,” Osakue said.

Earlier, Osakue had disclosed that Gift Alonge, her uncle, Mr. Ukere Adagbogu, and two members of BHI, Rhoda Braimoh and Promise Ezekiel, lost their lives in an accident while on their way from Igarra to attend a court sitting in Benin.

She expressed worry that the court failed to pass its sentence the same day the accused pleaded guilty, which she said made it possible for him to change his plea when he discovered that the victim and witnesses in the case died in an accident.

Osakue alleged that the accused, who is reputed to be a powerful native doctor, may have used magic wand to cause the accident that claimed the lives of the victims.

In his remark, the Chairman of NUJ, Edo State Council, Sir Roland Osakue, called on the judiciary to be forthright in the dispensation of justice.

“Somebody has pleaded guilty to a plea, why was the law not applied to him on that same day?” he queried.

We’ll Not Postpone Polls, INEC Assures

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has foreclosed any possibility of postponing the forthcoming general elections.

INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu assured Nigerians and the international community that no election will be postponed.

There are pending legal tussles from the primaries organised by political parties suggesting that INEC may have to postpone some elections.

But Yakubu noted that the commission will not be swayed into postponing any of the polls.

He disclosed this on Thursday at stakeholders meeting organised by INEC.

He noted that the commission has been dragged to court for 640 times and received 540 applications for the certified true copy of documents.

Yakubu promised the commission under him would continue to obey all court orders, assuring that it would not be deterred in the discharge of its functions.

“Court cases arising from the conduct of congress and primaries have risen to 640. INEC has been dragged to court 640 times, we have received 540 requests for certified true copy of documents. We have received 186 petitions over the conduct of congresses and party primaries.

“It is d policy of INEC to obey court orders. People ask if the judgements from these courts are decided close to elections if INEC will postpone the elections, INEC will not postpone any elections but we will make contingency arrangements in case some of the orders come close to elections,” he said.

The INEC chairman also assured the stakeholders that he would “never fail Nigeria and Nigerians.”

SERIOUSLY? $30,000 Payment Traced To CJN Onnoghen From Popular SAN

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has traced a deposit of $30,000 by Joe Agi, a senior advocate, into the bank account of Walter Onnoghen, the embattled Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

It has emerged that Onnoghen also failed to disclose that
he has an account at Heritage Bank in his asset declaration form — another violation of the code of conduct law.

Joe Agi, a popular SAN, is one of the senior advocates defending Onnoghen in his asset declaration case before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

TheCable was informed that Agi was also the guarantor when the justice opened the account at Standard Chartered Bank.

The fresh allegations form part of the report sent by the EFCC to the National Judicial Council (NJC) for disciplinary action to be taken against Onnoghen, who has been suspended as CJN by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari said he was acting based on an order issued by the CCT, although observers have accused him of not following due process in his action.

Onnoghen is currently being tried by the CCT over allegations of non-declaration of some of his assets, although he said it was an oversight.
He also said he made money from agriculture and forex investments.

NJC sources told TheCable that the $30,000 deposit was made sometime in 2009 while a series of “suspicious payments” were also traced to Onnoghen’s accounts between 2011 and 2013 during elections petition cases.
