Buhari Cries Out: US Envoys, Others Are Backing Atiku

President Buhari, through his Campaign Organisation spokesman, Mr Festus Keyamo (SAN), has accused the United States Ambassador, Stuart Symington, and other western ambassadors of partiality and tacit support for the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar.

Keyamo said this in a statement he issued in reaction to threats by Symington that persons who indulge in hate speech would be dealt with by the US.

Symington had also warned public officials not to obey unlawful directives issued in the name of the “boss,” saying any politician whose utterances incite people to violence would be held to account for the crime.

The ambassador’s warning came a day after Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State threatened that foreign persons who interfere in the elections would leave Nigeria in body bags, a statement that was defended by the Presidency.

However, Keyamo said the utterances of some western powers were giving the impression that Buhari was planning to rig Saturday’s elections.

The campaign spokesman also questioned the decision of the US Government to issue a visa to Atiku despite being accused of corruption.

The statement read in part, “We take the view that the constant statements by Ambassador Symington and the other diplomats are implicit attacks against the government of Nigeria. These statements imply the Nigerian government is inclined to rig the election in favour of President Muhammadu Buhari. This is unfair and unacceptable to us. President Muhammadu Buhari has never been accused of electoral malpractice all his life.

“However, in contrast, former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, publicly boasted a few months ago that he rigged the 2003 elections in the South-West states. Here, we have an open confession of blatant electoral malfeasance by the PDP candidate. But in all of these, there seem to be no concern by Ambassador Symington and other diplomats about this well-acknowledged proclivity of the main opposition.

“We expected that such open confession to rigging in the past would have drawn condemnation from the United States. Rather, what we witnessed recently was the ignoble act of giving such a self-confessed rigger with a decade-old indictment in America for corruption hanging over his head a special status to enter the US for a few days. Such is the double standard that America now displays for the whole world to see.

“We are deeply concerned about many of the expressions of the United States’ Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador W. Stuart Symington and other Western diplomats which have been directed towards Nigeria’s forthcoming elections. Whilst we laud and whole-heartedly welcome their interests in the elections, many of these expressions have been notably off-key. The continued warnings about ‘flawed elections’ is capable of casting an unwarranted cloud over the process. Instead of encouraging our country toward credible elections, such statements undermine public confidence. It would appear that these envoys seem to have discredited the election before it has even taken place.”

Keyamo said threatening to deal with persons who make certain utterances was an abuse of free speech which is guaranteed by both the Nigerian and the United States’ constitutions.

He said contrary to insinuations, it was the PDP that rigged in 2015 especially in the South-South geopolitical zone where the party won.

The statement added, “The continued reference and praise of the 2015 elections by Ambassador Symington clearly shows he needs further briefing about the Nigerian situation. For his information, the 2015 presidential election, at the end of the day, produced the correct outcome, but with flawed figures in many areas. Though they lost, the figures attributed to the PDP were inflated in many places, especially in the South-South, to save the face of the past President (Goodluck Jonathan) and to reduce the margin of his defeat. President Buhari is determined to improve on the 2015 elections and so it cannot even be our benchmark.”

He said contrary to speculations, it was only the PDP that depended on rigging for victory in Saturday’s elections.

Keyamo added, “An American ambassador has a great responsibility in representing the strongest economic and military power in the world. His comments carry weight because of the status of his nation. This means his comments should reflect a deep knowledge of the subject. Sadly, Ambassador Symington has not shown the deep knowledge of the Nigerian situation. The impression he creates by constantly harping on suspected government interference with the electoral process is that President Buhari cannot win without tipping the results. He seems to be saying that only a PDP victory will be evidence of a fair election.

“Again, he is in great error. From all of the information at our disposal, President Buhari can and should win a free and fair election. However, it appears to us that Ambassador Symington is substituting his subjective conclusions for the sovereign will of the Nigerian people. In doing so, he has abandoned the impartiality of a true envoy and has trespassed into interfering in our electoral process.”

Keyamo said the US envoy should not only face the ruling party but also focus on the opposition party. He said the days of colonialism were long gone and therefore advised Symington to respect Nigeria’s sovereignty.

Reacting, PDP said all the benefits APC enjoyed from America and others against Goodluck Jonathan are no longer coming their way, hence their constant crying out.

Tinubu Escapes From Rally, Oshiomhole Stoned As APC Rally In Ogun Turned Violent

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday at the Ogun State All Progressives Congress presidential rally in Abeokuta, narrowly escaped being stoned as suspected thugs pelted the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, with stones and water sachets.

The crowd also booed Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, Oshiomhole and the national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu.

The rally, which started immediately after President Buhari arrived at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta venue of the event at about 3.00pm, was suspended for some minutes following the violence that broke out.

Violence erupted when Oshiomhole was invited to the podium for his speech. As he began to speak, suspected hoodlums started throwing stones at him and one of the stones flew in the direction of the President.

He was saved by one of the security operatives who was hit by one of the stones thrown in the direction of the APC chairman.

Tinubu leaves while Buhari was speaking
The development angered the leaders of the party, including Tinubu, who left the podium while the President was making his remarks.

Tinubu was so enraged that while he was leaving the podium, he flung the APC’s flag which was placed beside him and went to sit in his car parked in the President’s convoy.

While Tinubu was going into the car, he was followed by some suspected thugs who were shouting ‘ole’, ‘ole’,’ole ‘ole’ (thief, thief, thief ) after him.

Oshiomhole further aggravated the crisis when he mentioned Dapo Abiodun as the party’s governorship candidate in the state while addressing the crowd.

Upon hearing Abiodun’s name, the crowd started booing Oshiomhole while some threw objects including stones and water sachet at him, prompting security agents to guard him.

Amosun had lost out in his bid to secure the APC governorship ticket for his ally, Adekunle Akinlade.

The governor had accused Oshiomhole and some APC leaders of working against his interest through Abiodun’s emergence. He also vowed not to hand over to Abiodun.

Shortly after, Akinlade defected to the Allied Peoples Movement and Amosun backed his action.

He even took him to the presidential villa where they met with Buhari.

This, the Ogun APC, claimed was responsible for the violent rally as it alleged that Amosun was behind the crisis on Monday.

While speaking before he was attacked, Oshiomhole had said, “The primary purpose for today is to solicit support for our candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari, and to also present the APC flag to our governorship candidate in the state, Prince Dapo Abiodun.”

Shouts of ‘thief’ as Oshiomhole introduces Abiodun
As soon as Oshiomhole said this, shouts of “Ole! Ole! Ole!” (thief, thief, thief) rent the air as the suspected party thugs pelted him with stones.

The atmosphere became charged to the extent that Amosun had to mount the podium again to beg the hoodlums to stop the attacks on Oshiomhole and others.

Please don’t disgrace me before Buhari — Amosun begs angry party members
Appealing to the angry crowd, he said, “I beg you in the name of God. This is what they want to happen. Please don’t disgrace me here,” he said in Yoruba.

“Our father is here, please don’t disgrace me. I beg you in the name of God, please don’t disgrace me before our father… We have laboured this hard. I am appealing to you. Please leave. I beg you in the name of God, please leave. I beg you. I am begging.”

Despite the breakdown of law and order at the rally, Oshiomhole hurriedly presented the party flag to Abiodun.

Earlier in his welcome address, Amosun had eulogised Buhari’s virtues and highlighted the reasons Ogun people should vote for him.

Amosun said, “ We have accepted President Muhammadu Buhari as our father. In the interest of love and the respect we have for Mr President, let us swallow our pride and subdue our anger. Don’t let them go back with an erroneous impression that we are not for Buhari.

“We are not just supporting Buhari because he is our father, but, because of his performance. Look at what he has done for the entire nation, he is someone with integrity. He said he would fix all our roads and infrastructure. He has done a lot for us. He has kept all his promises. They are looters and that is why they are against Buhari. This is about all of us”.

Amosun, however, attacked Afenifere, urging the President not to lose sleep over the group’s endorsement of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.

He said, “We have seen the wonderful work Buhari is doing is for all of us. Yoruba are not two in the country. We are the Afenifere.

“We are the people that will use our PVCs to defeat those that call themselves Afenifere.. Who else is Afenifere if we are not Afenifere ?. Tinubu, Akande, and other Yoruba leaders are here.

“They are not your friends, they are our enemies. We are going to fight them with our votes. We will show the true opinion poll on Saturday.”

The governor, however, provoked Oshiomhole and other party leaders when he urged his supporters to vote Buhari on February 16 while he stylishly supported Adekunle Akinlade of the Allied Peoples Movement.

He said, “The other one, we will resolve it on March 2nd. We are respecting President Muhammadu Buhari. Don’t transfer your anger to the APC.

“I have told you that you will all be one by March 3rd and you will come back to the APC. You know what to do when it is March 2nd, but honour me on February 16 and vote for Buhari.”

This, it was observed, provoked the APC leaders at the rally as a former governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, took the microphone and described Amosun as a hypocrite.

Aregbesola, who was not scheduled to speak at the rally considering the programme of event, spoke in Yoruba, saying, “We are not happy with the hypocrites among us. We are the APC, but, many people are hypocrites here. We must ensure that in February and March, we vote the APC.”

While the situation was tense, Osinbajo was called to make his remarks but he initially rejected the offer.

He was prevailed upon by Amosun to make his speech. In his speech, Osinbajo said he believed that the current administration deserved a second term.

He reiterated the President’s resolve to tackle corruption, affirming that it was possible to build a country free of corruption.

“Our country’s major problem is corruption. Our country is not short of money or ideas but it is short of men of character to use the resources judiciously,” he said.

Vote for candidates of your choice on March 2, Buhari tells Ogun residents
When it got to his turn, Buhari maintained a neutral stand by telling the people to “vote for him in the presidential election and vote for the candidate of their choice in the March 2 poll.

He said, “On the 2nd of March you can choose whoever you like across the parties. This is your right, so, there is no problem about it, I have no problem about it, and you shouldn’t have problems about it.

Buhari used the opportunity to highlight some of his feats, which he said, included improved economy, food security, winning the Boko Haram and recovering looted funds.

The President thereafter raised Abiodun’s hands. This angered Akinlade’s supporters and they started hurling stones at the President and other leaders of the party .

They shouted “No! No! No!” as the security agents attached to the President smuggled him into his car and zoomed off.

Amosun’s thugs disrupted Buhari’s rally – Ogun APC
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Caretaker Committee led by Chief Yemi Sanusi has apologised to the President over what it called “gross misconduct, indiscipline, disrespect and disorder perpetrated by agents of Governor Amosun.”

The party, in a statement by its spokesman, Tunde Oladunjoye, alleged that Amosun used thugs to cause violence at the APC rally.

It said that at some points, the thugs were personally led by Amosun, “who was seen on a video that has since gone viral, removing billboards and other campaign materials of Dapo Abiodun from the venue.”

The party said members of the caretaker committee were stopped from mounting the podium by Amosun’s thugs with obvious compromise of some security agents attached to the governor.

It said that act, not only embarrassed the President and his entourage, but had actually embarrassed the whole people of the state.

Ogun APC stated, “While tendering this apology, we are happy that the Department of State Services and other agencies have details of the sad events, which we urge them to submit to the Presidency.

Our action was to protest Abiodun’s candidacy –Amosun faction
When contacted, the embattled APC Publicity Secretary, Wole Elegbede, said the protest at the rally was to express the faction’s rejection of Abiodun’s candidacy.

Elegbede said the party was not happy over the incident, though he said the national leadership should be blamed for the protests.

He said, “The APC, Ogun State chapter, under the leadership of Chief Derin Adebiyi, will not like to reply anyone. What happened was between the APC supporters in the state. Some supporters are aggrieved by Abiodun’s emergence as the governorship candidate, while some like it.

“But our supporters are happy with President Muhammadu Buhari and are ready to vote for him in the forthcoming election.

“As you can see, all the APC supporters agree to vote for Buhari, What really happened could be traced to the emergence of Dapo Abiodun as the governorship candidate.”

Violence spreads to parts of Abeokuta
However, the violence spread to parts of Abeokuta, including Oke-Ilewo ,Iyana-Mortuary, Oke-Mosan, and Panseke on Monday evening. It was also gathered that in Ijebu-Ode, supporters of the APC and the APM clashed.

Violence, sign of rejection – PDP
However, the PDP on Monday said the assault on President Buhari, the Vice-President and the party chieftains was a direct message by Nigerians that they had rejected the party.

Emiliano Sala Died From Head & Chest Injuries

Footballer Emiliano Sala died from massive injuries to his head and chest and could only be identified by his fingerprints, an inquest heard yesterday.

But the body of his pilot David Ibbotson was not found in the wreckage of the Piper Malibu that disappeared over the Channel last month.

Brendan Allen, acting senior coroner for Dorset, adjourned proceedings in Bournemouth until November 6 for a pre-inquest review.

He told the hearing this was because an Air Accidents Investigation Branch inquiry into the tragedy could take between six months and a year.

Oshiomhole Booed, Stoned As Drama Mars Buhari’s Rally In Ogun [Video]

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, was booed and stoned at President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign rally in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Monday.

Things turned sour when the APC National Chairman mentioned the name of the party’s governorship candidate in the state, Mr Dapo Abiodun, while addressing the crowd.

Upon hearing Mr Abiodun’s name, the crowd at the MKO Abiola International Stadium started booing Mr Oshiomhole with some throwing objects at him, prompting security operatives to surround him.

As the crowd trouble continued, Governor Ibikunle Amosun, who is supporting Adekunle Akinlade, the governorship candidate of the APM to succeed him, had to intervene and appeal to the crowd to respect the presence of President Buhari.

Many in the crowd were not appeased and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had to be called to give a speech, leading to the return of calm at the venue of the rally.

President Muhammadu Buhari spoke after Professor Osinbajo and when he raised Dapo Abiodun’s hands as the APC flag bearer in the state the anger returned with some still throwing things forward.

A team of security operatives had to shield the President and other officials at the stage while the National Anthem was playing at the end of the rally.

Buhari Campaign Team Accuses US, Other Envoys Of Supporting Atiku

The Spokesman for the Buhari Campaign Organisation, Mr Festus Keyamo (SAN), has accused the United States Ambassador, Stuart Symington, and other western ambassadors of partiality and tacit support for the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.

Tension As Hoodlums Murder NURTW Branch Treasurer In Lagos

The Treasurer of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Jibowu-Yaba Branch, Alowonle Asekun, has been killed by hoodlums in the Grammar School area of the Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State.

Punch Metro gathered that Asekun, while on his way out of the Ajasa-Lamberu Street in the Grammar School area, was accosted by the hoodlums, who reportedly shot him to death in front of the First Atlantic School on Friday, February 8, 2019.

Eyewitnesses, who spoke to Punch correspondent at the scene of the incident, said the hoodlums trailed Asekun to the area, adding that the news of his death had caused panic in the Jibowu and Fadeyi areas of the state.

One of the eyewitnesses, Akeem Adepoju, said Asekun was shot three times and died on the spot.

The taxi driver said, “I was in my wife’s shop when the incident happened. Before the hoodlums carried out the attack on the man, I observed that about four boys, who wore fez caps, parked their motorcycles and walked around our street for over one hour. Around 2pm, Asekun was on his way out when they attacked him and shot him three times till he died.

“Immediately they killed him, they took his wristwatch, phone and emptied his pocket. Later on, the patrol vehicle of the Onyabo Vigilante Group came to carry his remains.”
Asekun’s wives, when contacted, demanded justice over his death and tasked the police to apprehend the hoodlums, who perpetrated the act.

The deceased’s first wife and mother of three, Suliat, said, “We are housewives who depended on our husband to survive; and now he is gone. We want the police to please help us get justice.”

“I don’t want his death to be in vain; he was my only hope,” Anuoluwa, the second wife and mother of one said.

The Provost Marshal, Onyabo Vigilante Group, Olabinjo Olanrewaju, while blaming residents for not informing the outfit early enough when the hoodlums were roaming the area, said the remains of the deceased were recovered and taken to the Ikorodu Division Police Station.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, who confirmed the incident to Punch correspondent, said two people had been arrested in connection with the crime, adding that the state Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Mu’azu, had transferred the case to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, for further investigation.

Woman Caught Red-handed While Dedicating Stolen Child In Enugu Church

The police in Enugu State have arrested a 55 years old woman, Edith Ewulu, for allegedly buying a five years old child stolen from her parents. It was learnt that the woman, who resides in Enugu State, bought the baby from one Chioma who claimed to be operating a social home in Abia State.

A statement by the spokesperson of the Enugu police, Ebere Amaraizu, said the woman was arrested at a new generation church where she took the child for

Thanksgiving and Dedication as her daughter.
“A 56 year old woman identified as one Edith Ewulu from Enugu Agidi in Anambra state but said to be residing in Emene Enugu state was arrested by the operatives of the Emene Division of the Nigeria Police Force, Enugu state command for allegedly being in possession of a five year old baby stolen from the mother on 5th of February at Emene Enugu,” Mr Amaraizu said.

“She was arrested at one of the New generation churches located at Emene Enugu where she took the child for Thanksgiving and dedication as her daughter after changing the name of the stolen child from little Miss Felicia as named by her parents”.

The spokesman said the suspect on interrogation confessed to the crime.

The suspect confessed that she bought the said child from one Chioma, who claimed to be running a social home in Aba, Abia state, at the sum of N470,000.

According to the spokesman, the suspect further said she bought the baby on February 7 from the seller at a renowned hospital in Umuahia which made her believe that the business was genuine.

On her part, the biological mother of the child, Philomena Godwin, said that her baby was stolen on February 6 at Emene, Enugu.

The statement by the police spokesman quoted Mrs Godwin as stating that she was having a headache on the said day and decided to go inside her room to have a nap while her baby was outside playing. “But when she woke up, she could no longer see her baby and various attempt made to get her proved abortive hence she reported to the police.”

She also appreciated the prompt action of the police that led to the recovery of her baby and the arrest of the alleged buyer.

Mr Amaraizu said the recovered baby has been reunited with her parents while investigations are on to arrest members of the syndicate. He advised parents and guardians to always be security conscious about their wards to avoid running into the hands of such mischief makers.

“The command also advises members of the public to promptly report any suspicious movement within their environment to the police for prompt necessary action,” he said.

Diezani Spotted Walking Around In London (Photos)

Former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke accused of massive corruption in the country has been spotted walking on a street in London, UK, as the EFCC is yet to get the chance to bring her back home to face trial.

Osquare Okpanachi who spotted the ex-minister on the streets took to his Facebook page to share pictures and wrote:

"Guess who I just saw while driving to work in North West, London?? Diezani Alison Madueke. The moment she noticed I wanted to snap her, she quickly moved very fast away from me. I was gonna come down to ask her about our yams, but the traffic was moving.

"In October, 2017, the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, had said that Nigeria had no immediate plan to bring Mrs Allison-Madueke back home to face trial.

"Mrs Allison-Madueke, who is being investigated in the UK, had urged the federal government to bring her back to the country to face corruption charges against her.

"But, Mr Malami said that bringing her back to the country would jeopardise the investigation being carried on her in the UK."

Teenage Goes On Rampage; Stabs Teacher & Classmate To Death

A 15-year-old Belarusian on Monday stabbed his teacher and a classmate to death while seriously injuring two others, authorities said, in a rare school attack in the ex-Soviet nation.

The teenager arrived at school before the first lesson and stabbed his history teacher in the neck, fatally injuring her. He then entered a neighbouring classroom and killed a student, before escaping via the window and injuring two more.

Police arrested the attacker some two hours later, according to reports.

The regional office of the interior ministry confirmed a 53-year-old teacher and one student had been killed, while two other students were in intensive care.

The incident took place in Stolbtsy, a town 40 miles (70 kilometres) south-west of the capital Minsk.

The attacker deleted his social media presence the day before the killings, according to media.

School killings are rare in authoritarian Belarus and elsewhere in the former USSR.

In October last year a student at a secondary school in Kerch, Crimea, killed 20 people and injured more than 40 others in a planned gun attack.

Authorities then blamed “globalisation” and “social networks” for bringing the phenomenon of school shootings from the United States.

Buhari's Action Against CJN Onnoghen Wrong, says United Nations

The suspension of Nigeria’s most senior judge by President Muhammadu Buhari broke international human rights standards on the independence of the judiciary and the separation of powers, a United Nations expert has said.

“International human rights standards provide that judges may be dismissed only on serious grounds of misconduct or incompetence,”
said Diego Garcia-Sayan, the UN special rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, on Monday.

“Any decision to suspend or remove a judge from office should be fair and should be taken by an independent authority such as a judicial council or a court,” he said in a statement.

Buhari, who was a military ruler in the 1980s and was voted into office in 2015, is hoping to win a new term in a presidential election scheduled to take place on Saturday.

The chief justice could preside over any dispute over the election result.

Nigeria’s judiciary has helped resolve electoral disputes in past votes, some of which have been marred by violence and ballot rigging.

Garcia-Sayan, who is mandated by the UN Human Rights Council to investigate legal and judicial independence, said dismissing judges without following legal procedures or offering a chance to contest the decision was incompatible with the independence of the judiciary.

Buhari suspended Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen on January 25 following an order by a tribunal on public officials’ conduct and replaced him with Ibrahim Tanko Mohammad.

But four courts superior to the tribunal had already ordered a stay of proceedings and the tribunal had previously said it lacked jurisdiction over cases involving judicial officers, Garcia-Sayan said.

The UN statement said some of the judges and the defence lawyers involved in Onnoghen’s case had been subject to serious threats, pressures and interference.

The move prompted anger among the country’s civil society groups and opposition.

Last month, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) decided to embark on a two-day warning boycott of all courts in Nigeria over Onnoghen’s suspension.

The NBA and local civil society associations held protests in Abuja and southeast Enugu state to reject Onnoghen’s suspension, calling it an “attempted coup against the Nigerian judiciary”.

Critics say the suspension is an effort by Buhari to weaken Nigeria’s judiciary and pave the way for his election to a second term in the February 16 vote.

Amid heightened tensions before the vote, observers warned against election-related violence.

Fraud Saga: FG Refuses To Probe Buhari's NSA, Minister

Over two years after they were recommended for probe, the Buhari-led Federal Government has yet to investigate and charge the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno; and the Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd.).

The two ex-generals were recommended for probe by the Committee on Audit of Defence Equipment Procurement in the Nigerian Armed Forces from 2007 to 2015.

Moguno was recommended for probe over the procurement of
weapons during his time as the Chief of Defence Intelligence Agency from July 2009 to September 2011 while Dambazau was recommended for investigation following alleged suspicious contracts awarded when he was Chief of Army Staff from 2008 to 2010.

The fourth interim report of the committee which was signed by the President of the committee, Air Vice Marshal John Ode (retd.), recommended the investigation of 25 former officials of the Ministry of Defence, 16 retired generals and 44 companies.

The report read in part, “The sum of $5, 152, 792.44 equivalent to N772, 918, 866.60 at N150 per dollar was also transferred to unknown offshore accounts for unspecified purposes.

“The account was closed on December 1, 2011 with a closing balance of $0.0. Lt.Gen AB Dambazau (retd.) and Maj.Gen Charles Airhiavbere should be further investigated for the operation of the account.”

Some others named in the report include a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Dele Ezeoba (retd.), and a former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.Gen Onyeabor Ihejirika (retd.).

While Ezeoba has been taken to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and made to return N1.8bn, Ihejrikia’s properties worth billions of naira have been seized by the government.

A former Accountant-General of the Federation, Jonah Otunla, who was also named in the report, has been arraigned by the EFCC for alleged diversion of N2bn.

However, checks by our correspondent showed that both Dambazau and Monguno, who are appointees of President Buhari have neither been charged nor listed as looters by the Federal Government.

Also, there is no evidence to show that Dambazau and Monguno were ever probed by the Federal Government.

Incidentally, the probe and detention of a former NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.) is based on this same report which recommended Dambazau and Monguno for probe .

In March 2016, the committee, comprising mainly retired military officers, had summoned 292 retired and serving top army officers.

Incidentally, the 13-member investigative committee was set up by Monguno based on the order of Buhari.

The acting EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, was also a member of the committee.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, stated that the investigative committee’s mandate is to identify irregularities and make recommendations for streamlining the procurement process in the armed forces.

The spokesman for the EFCC, Mr. Tony Orilade, could not be reached for comment on Sunday as calls put through to his phone lines failed to connect while a text message was not responded to as of press time.

Court Bars FG From Freezing Onnoghen’s Accounts

The  Federal High Court in Abuja has restrained the President,  Attorney General of the Federation and Nigerian Financial Intelligence from freezing the bank accounts of the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.

Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu granted the order while ruling on a motion ex parte instituted by the Legal Defence and Assistance Project Ltd/GTE.

The AGF  last month wrote a letter to the NFIU asking the unit to “restrict normal banking operations on certain accounts belonging to Onnoghen”.

The AGF said the order was in line with Executive Order 06 on the preservation of assets connected with corruption.

On February 8, 2019, however, Justice Ojukwu ruled that the AGF must obtain a court order before freezing the accounts.
The court ruled, “That the AGF shall obtain an order of court (ex parte) before freezing the accounts of Justice Onnoghen Walter Nkanu Samuel (in respect of exhibit 8) in compliance with the law if it was not obtained.

“That where it is shown that the order of court was obtained before the freezing of the accounts contained in Exhibit B, the freezing order shall remain valid.”

The court ordered that the order be served on the respondents pending the hearing of the motion notice.

The court adjourned the matter till February 13.
