How APC Finally Lost Rivers State Today

It's over. The Supreme Court has finally struck out the appeal filed by the APC challenging the judgment of a High Court in Rivers State which barred the party from conducting any primaries in the state to nominate candidates to represent the party in the forth coming general elections.

Ruling on a preliminary objection raised by the respondents, Ibrahim Umah and 22 other aggrieved members of the APC, Justice Aliyu Sanusi, in a lead judgement, said;
there was substance in the objection raised by the respondent. Consequently, the preliminary objection having been upheld, “the appeal is struck out”.
In a unanimous decision, the highest court in the country agreed with the respondents that the suit from which the trial court entered a judgment barring the APC from holding primaries was an election matter which the court had jurisdiction to entertain.

The APC will therefore not be fielding any candidates in Rivers for both the state and federal legislature. Wrong political calculation and its consequences.

Saraki Replies Tinubu: You’re Angry Because...

Senate President Bukola Saraki says Bola Tinubu is angry with him because he opposed Tinubu’s ambition for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to field a Muslim-Muslim ticket in the 2015 presidential election.

It was believed that Tinubu wanted to be running mate to President Muhammadu Buhari but that would have presented an all-Muslim ticket, which Saraki seriously opposed.

Saraki said this in reaction to uncomplimentary remarks made against him by Tinubu at the APC rally in Kwara state on Monday.

The Senate President said Nigerians will punish the APC on Saturday.

“They came to Kwara State to hurl insults at me and my people, instead of explaining to the people what they want to do differently and what contributions their flagbearers and other leaders in the State have made to our various communities to justify the people shifting their loyalty to their dying party,” he said in a statement issued on his behalf by Yusuph Olaniyonu.

“They promised nothing concrete that will improve the standard of living of the people and provide infrastructure. They have only come to Kwara to vindicate my position that they have no good plans for Kwara State and its people. It is obvious that the APC have nothing to offer Kwarans.

“They represent nothing good for our people. My problem with them has always been that after we worked with our people to support them to win in 2015, they refused to work on infrastructure and other policy issues that can bring direct benefit to our people.

“As for Tinubu, we have never expected any good words from him. All his life, he will continue to belly ache and nurse grudges over my opposition to the Muslim-Muslim ticket idea in 2015.

“As far as he is concerned, I stopped him from realizing his ambition then. However, I believe my action then and now is in pursuit of national interest. Again, I supported President Buhari in 2015 because I believe he could make a positive change. I left the party when I realized he lacked the capacity and the desire to make any change.

“Tinubu on his own part said though he agreed with me about my assessment of the man, he would continue to support Buhari even if the man had to govern from the hospital stretcher because that is the way he (Tinubu) could become the President in 2023. So, while my position is premised on national interest, Tinubu’s is based on his personal interest and ambition.

“Now that Tinubu’s new speciality is to hurl insults at people like former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, focusing on me today is okay if it will help him feel good. It is surprising that a man like Tinubu will be talking about morality and corruption.

“This is a man whose disrepute is known both within and outside Nigeria. This is somebody who personifies everything that is wrong with the Nigerian system. Well, I am not ready to roll in the gutter with him. Unlike them, I will stay on the issues that are germaine to national development and the welfare of our people.”

Saraki added that at the presidential poll on Saturday APC “will be punished for their bad behaviour.”

A man who is accused of killing his pregnant wife has been arrested in Lahore on Monday.

The woman’s brother said the man started pressurising his wife to get an abortion after her ultrasound confirmed that she was having a baby girl.

After killing his wife, the man tried to make the scene look like a suicide, her brother said.

The woman was killed four days ago in Faisal Town. Her body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a room.

The woman’s brother, Ali Ahmed, told SAMAA TV that his sister had told their parents that her husband did not want a daughter. He said their father said, “if you don’t want a daughter you can give her to us.”

The couple got married four years ago. The man is a lawyer and has three children from his previous marriage. The deceased was his second wife, whom he married after divorcing his first wife.

DSP Saleemullah Lashari said police would investigate further after the post-mortem report is out.

Kenyan Politician Puts Up His Testicle, Kidney For Sale Due To Extreme Poverty

A former aspirant for Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat has put up one of his testicles for sale for Sh500,000. Ian-Harriel Kowiti, who hails from Uriri Constituency in Migori County, says he’s tired of living in squalor and poverty, and has opted to raise cash by selling one of his testicles.

Kowiti, who tried his hands in politics in the last General Election as an independent candidate, is also willing to part with one of his kidneys for Sh1.5 million for ‘a local client,’ and three times that amount for ‘client’ based outside the country.

“What is the need of having two of them (testicles) dangling between my legs if I can still do the job perfectly with just one? Imagine that there is someone out there who can’t have a child for one reason or another. I just want to share what I have, for a little profit of course! I’m tired of being broke, yet I don’t need two testicles!” he said.

Another Igbo Group Endorses Atiku For President

Less than four days to the presidential poll, an Igbo socio-political group, Eastern Peoples Front, on Monday, endorsed the candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Peter Obi, saying that supporting Atiku was about Igbo’s survival in Nigeria.

Addressing a press conference at the Sports Club, Enugu, the National Executive Committee of EPF, in a communiqué read by its National Coordinator, Ken Emechebe, described any “appeasement” to the current administration in the country led by President Muhammadu Buhari as “a dangerous thing, and tantamount to committing suicide.”

The group said it fully supported the earlier endorsement of Atiku/Obi ticket by the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, saying they recognised the body under the leadership of Chief Nnia Nwodo, as the mouthpiece of all Igbo and that anybody who speaks against Ohanaeze remains a renegade.

EPF condemned the sit-at-home order to Ndigbo by the Indigenous People of Biafra, describing it as misleading, infantile and irresponsible, which they said should be ignored by Igbo.

The group said that there were 26.7 million registered Igbo voters across the country and that EPF was moving round every part of the country to mobilise the people to ensure that at least 16 million of them vote Atiku.

The group said, “Atiku/Obi ticket provides accelerated pathway for Nigerian president of Igbo extraction through a major political party in Nigeria.

“Between the PDP and the APC, Atiku Abubakar is the only candidate that is committed to handing over power to the Igbo, as equity and fairness demand.

“Atiku Abubakar is the only candidate that is committed to practical and constitutional restructuring of Nigeria to devolve power to the federating units and restore true federalism, and also ensure real autonomy of the judiciary.”

Also speaking, the former Minister of Power and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Prof. Chinedu Nebo described those who visited President Buhari at the State House, Abuja, to apologise for Ohanaeze’s endorsement of Atiku as charlatans seeking personal aggrandisement, saying that in due time, they would realise their folly and apologise to Ndigbo.

Insisting that Chief Nnia Nwodo is still the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, contrary to assertion by the suspended Secretary-General of the body, Uche Okwukwu, Prof Nebo said that any vote for President Buhari was a vote against Ndigbo, stressing “We refuse to be cowards in the face of intimidation and brutalisation against Ndigbo by the present administration.”

Bowen University Lecturer Shot, Colleagues Abducted By Gunmen

Two lecturers of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun state, were on Monday abducted by suspected kidnappers. The lecturers were reportedly coming from Ilesha when their abductors stopped their vehicles around Idominasi, a town in Obokun local government.

The assailants, it was learnt, shot one of the lecturers and abducted two, while one of the lecturers escaped unhurt.

A staff of Osogbo local government, identified as Kolawole, whose vehicle was also attacked, told our correspondent that the abductors attacked commuters on the road around 4.30pm.

He said, “The kidnappers were about five in number and spoke in Yoruba. They stopped a vehicle in front of our own vehicle. The men dressed in black and were armed with sophisticated weapons.

“The driver of the vehicle in front of us attempted to run and the vehicle was shot at. We all fled into the bush. The men spoke in fluent Yoruba language.”

When contacted, spokesperson of Osun Police Command, Folasade Odoro, confirmed to The Punch that two persons were abducted.

“But the information is still sketchy for now. Our men are still in the bush. We are on the trail of their abductors.”

Repeated calls to the mobile number of the Registrar of the institution, Dr. Kayode Ogunleye, were not answered. Also, text message to his line was not responded to as of the time of filing this report.

"Body Bags": Clinton Cancels His Visit To Nigeria

A former President of the United States of America, Bill Clinton, has cancelled his visit to Nigeria on the invitation of the National Peace Committee. His actions have left many worried.

There are speculations that the threat of Body Bags by Governor El-Rufai and the support of that statement by the Presidency got the international community very worried about Nigeria.

He was billed to deliver a goodwill message during the signing ceremony of the National Peace Accord in Abuja between February 12 and 13.

A statement that his spokesperson, Angel Ureña, sent to the Chairman/Editor-in-Chief of ThisDay, Nduka Obaigbena, said the visit could be politicised.
“It has become apparent that President Clinton’s visit to Nigeria has the potential to be politicized in a way that is not in line with the goals of the Committee. Therefore, he will not be traveling to Abuja,” the statement partly read.

The statement added that Clinton would talk to President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsami Abubakar (retd.) this week.

Fear As Bad Guys Murder NURTW Branch Treasurer In Lagos (Photo)

The Treasurer of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Jibowu-Yaba Branch, Alowonle Asekun, has been killed by hoodlums in the Grammar School area of the Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that Asekun, while on his way out of the
Ajasa-Lamberu Street in the Grammar School area, was accosted by the hoodlums, who reportedly shot him to death in front of the First Atlantic School on Friday, February 8, 2019.

Eyewitnesses, who spoke to The Punch at the scene of the incident, said the hoodlums trailed Asekun to the area, adding that the news of his death had caused panic in the Jibowu and Fadeyi areas of the state.

One of the eyewitnesses, Akeem Adepoju, said Asekun was shot three times and died on the spot.

The taxi driver said, “I was in my wife’s shop when the incident happened. Before the hoodlums carried out the attack on the man, I observed that about four boys, who wore fez caps, parked their motorcycles and walked around our street for over one hour. Around 2pm, Asekun was on his way out when they attacked him and shot him three times till he died.

“Immediately they killed him, they took his wristwatch, phone and emptied his pocket. Later on, the patrol vehicle of the Onyabo Vigilante Group came to carry his remains.”

Another eyewitness, who simply identified herself as Titilayo, said one of Asekun’s killers walked out of the street without the fear of being arrested, while the others fled on their motorcycles.

“Immediately after the man was murdered, the assailants mounted the motorcycles they brought and ran away. But what surprised me the most was that the man, who brought the boys, walked majestically out of our street and nobody could challenge him, because nobody was ready to die,” the trader stated.

A resident of the area, who pleaded to remain anonymous, said the deceased was a member of the NURTW at Jibowu, Yaba.

When contacted, a member of the NURTW in the branch, Shehu Kazeem, said one of the suspected killers used a hidden number to call and inform him that Asekun had been murdered.

Kazeem said, “Immediately the incident happened, we realised that police officers had been stationed in the Ereko area. At first, I didn’t know what was going on, until someone called me with a hidden number to inform me that we should go and carry Asekun’s corpse.

“I went to the place where he was murdered and confirmed what they said. I really can’t explain how I felt when I saw his corpse. His death was very painful.”

In an interview with The Punch, the Chairman of the NURTW in the branch, Femi Akinboyeku, lamented the death of the treasurer and charged the police to investigate the case and arrest the killers.

He said, “I was at home when I received the news of the death of my treasurer. From what I gathered, it’s like some people used the number of someone he was familiar with to call him to meet them at the particular point where he was murdered.

“The people I suspect to have carried out the attack are the ‘Ereko boys’ at Fadeyi. These ‘Ereko boys’ are not our union members; they are usually not happy with our activities as a union.

“Honestly, I feel very sad about Asekun’s death and I want the law enforcement agents to investigate this case so that the suspects can be apprehended and brought to justice. As for my treasurer’s two wives and children, as the branch chairman, I will ensure that they are well taken care of to the best of our capacity.”

Asekun’s wives, when contacted, demanded justice over his death and tasked the police to apprehend the hoodlums, who perpetrated the act.

The deceased’s first wife and mother of three, Suliat, said, “We are housewives who depended on our husband to survive; and now he is gone. We want the police to please help us get justice.”

“I don’t want his death to be in vain; he was my only hope,” Anuoluwa, the second wife and mother of one said.

The Provost Marshal, Onyabo Vigilante Group, Olabinjo Olanrewaju, while blaming residents for not informing the outfit early enough when the hoodlums were roaming the area, said the remains of the deceased were recovered and taken to the Ikorodu Division Police Station.

“The people we spoke to in the area said those hoodlums ,who murdered the man, had been in the area for a while and they didn’t inform us that they were seeing strange faces. If they had, we would have engaged the hoodlums before they carried out the crime. The people said they were four in number, who attacked the deceased; they shot him with a pistol.

“When we got to the scene of the incident, we took the corpse to the police station, where we gave an account of what we gathered at the scene of the incident. The corpse was later taken to the Ikorodu General Hospital’s morgue.”
The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent, said two people had been arrested in connection with the crime, adding that the state Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Mu’azu, had transferred the case to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, for further investigation.

Oti said, “The deceased was a member of a motor union and was trailed to the Ikorodu area of Lagos by a fractional group of the union and killed him.

“During the fracas that led to his death, the police in the Ikorodu Division received a distress call and mobilised swiftly to the scene and brought the situation under control. Two arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

“However, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Zubairu Mu’azu, has directed that the case be transferred to the homicide section, SCIID, Panti, for further investigation.”

Cardi B Blasts Those Discrediting Her Grammy Win! Then Deactivates Her Instagram Account

Case closed! Cardi B has blasted those discrediting her Grammy win and has finally deactivated her Instagram account.

Following criticism that she was undeserving of her best rap album Grammy win and some social media drama where she was pinned against her nemesis Nicki Minaj by the BET Network, the rapper got heated in an expletive-filled rant on her Instagram before finally deactivating it.

The video, which was captured by a fan account, has since been deleted and was followed by Cardi, 26, deactivating her Instagram entirely.

“It’s not my style for people to put other people down to uplift somebody else,” she began in the clip, referencing the dig BET made at Nicki, which said she was “being dragged by her lacefront” after Cardi’s Grammy win.

“That’s not my style and that’s not what I’m with,” Cardi said, adding, “I don’t support that.”

“However, I’ve been taking a lot of s— today. I’m seeing a lot of bulls— today and I saw a lot of s—  last night, and I’m sick of this s—. I work hard for my motherf— album,” she angrily stated.

The “I Like It” rapper continued her rant by reflecting on the reactions from last year’s Grammys results. Cardi earned two nominations in best rap performance and best rap song for her track “Bodak Yellow” but did not win for either one.

“I remember last year when I didn’t win for ‘Bodak Yellow’ and everybody was like, ‘Cardi got snubbed,'” she recalled. “Now this year’s a f— problem?! My album went two-time platinum, my n—, and every chart that there was, my album was always Top 10. Number one album, as well.”

She also noted how she “worked her ass off” and spent endless hours in the studio, despite being pregnant with her daughter Kulture Kiari, now 7 months.

“I locked myself in the studio for three months, my n—. Didn’t go to sleep in my bed sometimes for four days straight — pregnant!” she explained. “While everybody was harassing me like, ‘You’re not gonna do it, we know you pregnant, your career’s over…'”

Nicki Minaj HINTS On Why She Never Has A Grammy & Says She’s Ready To Tell It All

Oh Dear! Nicki Minaj isn't holding back on Twitter, especially after revealing she's been "bullied" by the Recording Academy and has kept "quiet for 7 years out of fear."

The "Chun-Li" rapper tweeted she "pissed off" Ken Ehrlich, the Grammys Executive Producer.

If his name sounds familiar, it's because Ariana Grande recently called him out on Twitterwhen she explained she was "stifled" by him and therefore wouldn't perform at the 2019 Grammys.

It seems Minaj is taking a cue from the "7 Rings" star's book, because she's ready to speak her truth.

"I pissed off the same man Ariana just called out for lying. Grammy producer KEN," the 36-year-old rapper wrote in her post.

"I was bullied into staying quiet for 7 years out of fear. But I'll tell my fans the REAL on the next episode of #QueenRadio they deserve the truth."

Closing her statement, she said, "Also, CONGRATS to everyone who won last night."

Buhari Cries Out: US Envoys, Others Are Backing Atiku

President Buhari, through his Campaign Organisation spokesman, Mr Festus Keyamo (SAN), has accused the United States Ambassador, Stuart Symington, and other western ambassadors of partiality and tacit support for the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar.

Keyamo said this in a statement he issued in reaction to threats by Symington that persons who indulge in hate speech would be dealt with by the US.

Symington had also warned public officials not to obey unlawful directives issued in the name of the “boss,” saying any politician whose utterances incite people to violence would be held to account for the crime.

The ambassador’s warning came a day after Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State threatened that foreign persons who interfere in the elections would leave Nigeria in body bags, a statement that was defended by the Presidency.

However, Keyamo said the utterances of some western powers were giving the impression that Buhari was planning to rig Saturday’s elections.

The campaign spokesman also questioned the decision of the US Government to issue a visa to Atiku despite being accused of corruption.

The statement read in part, “We take the view that the constant statements by Ambassador Symington and the other diplomats are implicit attacks against the government of Nigeria. These statements imply the Nigerian government is inclined to rig the election in favour of President Muhammadu Buhari. This is unfair and unacceptable to us. President Muhammadu Buhari has never been accused of electoral malpractice all his life.

“However, in contrast, former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, publicly boasted a few months ago that he rigged the 2003 elections in the South-West states. Here, we have an open confession of blatant electoral malfeasance by the PDP candidate. But in all of these, there seem to be no concern by Ambassador Symington and other diplomats about this well-acknowledged proclivity of the main opposition.

“We expected that such open confession to rigging in the past would have drawn condemnation from the United States. Rather, what we witnessed recently was the ignoble act of giving such a self-confessed rigger with a decade-old indictment in America for corruption hanging over his head a special status to enter the US for a few days. Such is the double standard that America now displays for the whole world to see.

“We are deeply concerned about many of the expressions of the United States’ Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador W. Stuart Symington and other Western diplomats which have been directed towards Nigeria’s forthcoming elections. Whilst we laud and whole-heartedly welcome their interests in the elections, many of these expressions have been notably off-key. The continued warnings about ‘flawed elections’ is capable of casting an unwarranted cloud over the process. Instead of encouraging our country toward credible elections, such statements undermine public confidence. It would appear that these envoys seem to have discredited the election before it has even taken place.”

Keyamo said threatening to deal with persons who make certain utterances was an abuse of free speech which is guaranteed by both the Nigerian and the United States’ constitutions.

He said contrary to insinuations, it was the PDP that rigged in 2015 especially in the South-South geopolitical zone where the party won.

The statement added, “The continued reference and praise of the 2015 elections by Ambassador Symington clearly shows he needs further briefing about the Nigerian situation. For his information, the 2015 presidential election, at the end of the day, produced the correct outcome, but with flawed figures in many areas. Though they lost, the figures attributed to the PDP were inflated in many places, especially in the South-South, to save the face of the past President (Goodluck Jonathan) and to reduce the margin of his defeat. President Buhari is determined to improve on the 2015 elections and so it cannot even be our benchmark.”

He said contrary to speculations, it was only the PDP that depended on rigging for victory in Saturday’s elections.

Keyamo added, “An American ambassador has a great responsibility in representing the strongest economic and military power in the world. His comments carry weight because of the status of his nation. This means his comments should reflect a deep knowledge of the subject. Sadly, Ambassador Symington has not shown the deep knowledge of the Nigerian situation. The impression he creates by constantly harping on suspected government interference with the electoral process is that President Buhari cannot win without tipping the results. He seems to be saying that only a PDP victory will be evidence of a fair election.

“Again, he is in great error. From all of the information at our disposal, President Buhari can and should win a free and fair election. However, it appears to us that Ambassador Symington is substituting his subjective conclusions for the sovereign will of the Nigerian people. In doing so, he has abandoned the impartiality of a true envoy and has trespassed into interfering in our electoral process.”

Keyamo said the US envoy should not only face the ruling party but also focus on the opposition party. He said the days of colonialism were long gone and therefore advised Symington to respect Nigeria’s sovereignty.

Reacting, PDP said all the benefits APC enjoyed from America and others against Goodluck Jonathan are no longer coming their way, hence their constant crying out.
