Serena Williams Throws Daughter A HUGE Party

She revealed last year that she wouldn't be celebrating her daughter Olympia's first birthday as she is a Jehovah's Witness.

But Serena Williams proved that a party any other time wasn't off the cards, showing her daughter with a barnyard and carnival themed event on Saturday.

The 37-year-old beauty took to Instagram Stories to share all the kids having fun while showing her 10.7 million followers around her backyard.

'This is so fun, Olympia,' she said.

'We wanted to just do something fun, because we don't do birthdays.'

Serena then showcased her man, Alex Ohanian's handy work - sharing the play equipment he'd put together.

Serena's extravaganza comes after she revealed last year that Olympia wouldn't be getting a first birthday party as she was part of the Jehovah's Witness religion.

According to Jehovah’s Witnesses official website, Jehovah’s Witnesses see Jesus as the son of God and savior, but do not believe he’s the 'Almighty God.'

Furthermore, members of the faith reportedly don't vote, remain politically neutral and do not celebrate holidays such as Christmas, Easter, birthdays, Valentine's Day or Halloween.

Serena spent Valentine's Day enjoying a 'Galentine's Day' instead with some of her girlfriends.

Alexis isn't part of the faith but has continued to support her wishes.

Poll Shift Is Divine Intervention – Abiara

A former General Evangelist of the Christ Apostolic Church, Prophet Kayode Abiara, has urged Nigerians to see the postponement of the presidential and National Assembly polls as a divine intervention.

Abiara appealed to Nigerians not to blame the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, for the postponement but to see it as an act of God to make Nigeria a better country.

The cleric said this while reacting to the postponement of the elections on Saturday.

He said, “Nigerians must thank God almighty for this situation because God owns Nigeria and God is aware of the cancellation of these elections.

“It so sad many people travelled from different parts of Nigeria to cast their votes in their various states and they will be disappointed by the postponement. But Nigerians must appreciate God for averting a series of devilish ploys concerning  these elections by the postponement

“The chairman of INEC is not God, he needs to apologise to Nigerians. We Nigerians should also not blame him because it is God’s  intervention.”

Abiara urged Nigerians not to shun the elections due to the postponement while pleading with them to troop out to vote their leaders on February 23.

Shock As Beautiful Lady Displays 'Madness' On The Road

A 'big' lady caused a scene along a road yesterday in Owerri, Imo state capital. The lady while agitating with herself on the road, made some remarks while pointing to her private parts in the public display.

An eyewitness user Ann Johnson, shared the clip and warned ladies.

While some attributed her case to ritualism, others who claim to know the lady said she's a "possessed" and mentally unstable person who walks around Owerri metropolis in skimpy outfits for many years now and that her case is not new.

We Are Watching INEC Closely - Situation Room

Convener of the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, Clement Nwankwo says his organisation will continue to watch closely, the processes involved for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct free, fair and credible elections in Nigeria.

“INEC has a duty to be honest and transparent with Nigerians in the conduct of elections. That duty of honesty has been fundamentally breached, but we will continue to closely watch the process and will take needed step.”

In a statement released in the aftermath of the postponement, Situation Room, an umbrella body comprising of several civil society organisations, expressed shock and disappointment.

He said the group would continue to keep an eye on the processes, especially so those sensitive materials already in the country are secure.

“This development (postponement) casts a cloud of doubt on INEC’s credibility and competence in conducting the election, but there is no alternative to democratic elections and we will continue to work towards successful elections in the country.”
He acknowledged that the postponement had huge economic implications on Nigerians, but called on them not to give up, despite it.

“There is no doubt that this postponement has imposed unforeseen financial and logistics burden on political parties, candidates, businesses and indeed the generality of Nigerians. We sympathize with Nigerians and urge restraints in the face of this sad postponement,” he said.

“Nigerians should not give up… We urge all eligible voters to come out on February the 23rd, and cast their vote. Nigeria belongs to us all.”

I’ve Only Travelled Out Of Nigeria To Benin Republic – Ibrahim Chatta

Actor, Ibrahim Chatta, has revealed that unlike many of his colleagues who like to brag about their trips abroad, he has only travelled out of Nigeria to the Republic of Benin.

Chatta told Sunday Scoop, “I have never travelled out of this country except to the Republic of Benin. Most times, I hear that people travel to other developed countries to beg; I don’t want to be like that. Right now, I am working on a movie and I will need to hold the premiere in the UK, America, South African and Dubai. If I eventually go to those places, I know it is for a purpose.

“There are many amazing places I’ve never visited in Nigeria too. I only go to locations from my house and return home afterwards. I’ve been invited to America and Canada for awards, but God has not given me the privilege to visit yet. I have not been to Mecca too, but it is my priority to go before I die and I am not leaving the world soon.”

He admitted that it was a great thing for one to travel but noted that Nigerians needed to love their country. The actor added, “People are always saying Nigeria cannot be good; we should stop saying that. We are not patient and patriotic enough. I have never been to the US but I can tell you nice things about New York and Washington. I saw those things in movies. Films should be avenues to project our country in a positive light but we don’t do that here. I will die in Nigeria because it is my country.”

Urging everyone to play a role to make Nigeria a better place, Chatta said, “Fifty per cent of my income goes to people, though I’m still a poor man. I work every day to survive. If I go to the bank, the staff members and people in the queue always want to favour me but I wait for my turn. I am tired of hearing people saying terrible things about Nigeria. I know many of my colleagues who are supporting one party or the other because of what they stand to gain but the love of the country should come first.”

I’d Be Worried If Men Don’t Make Passes At Me - Actress Uche Elendu

Actress, Uche Elendu, may be a mother but she still effortlessly leaves men drooling over her beauty. The single mother told Sunday Scoop that she was not in want of male attention and is willing to give marriage another try.

She said, “Of course, I am a very beautiful woman and I should get passes. If nobody makes a pass at me, then I’d be worried. But as a Christian, I do things right. I am mature enough to control things and make the right decisions.

“I am definitely willing to give marriage another shot. From my first marriage, I learnt not to be in a hurry to do anything. Don’t be in a haste to jump into marriage; you should really take your time to make sure that you’re with the right person and you’re both compatible.
I got married to a very wonderful man but I guess we were not compatible. Don’t just get married because everybody else is doing that, or based on a person’s good looks and money.

Governor Okowa's Aide Shot Dead In Delta (Photo)

Unknown gunmen on Friday night shot dead Mr. Ngozi Ijei, a special adviser to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and his driver, at Ekpan, Uvwie local government area of the state.

According to sources, he was shot around Niger Cat area, off NPA expressway in Ekpan. The killing of Ijei has sparked fear and tension in the area.

Sources told The Nation that Ijei was shot dead by yet unidentified assailant, who left him in the pool of his blood afterwards. “Gunmen who probably trailed him to the scene opened fire on a silver color Toyota Camry. He and his driver died on the spot. We heard that huge sum of money was removed from the car, but nobody knows for certain,” a source said.

His supporters, The Nation gathered, have sworn to launch reprisals on those they suspect of having engineered the killing.

Ngozi was standing trial for some crimes when he was released from prison and appointed SA on Community and Youth Affairs to the Governor. His murder is the latest in a bloody chapter which has seen a spike in insecurity in Ekpan and Jakpa Road areas of Uvwie LGA.

No fewer than six persons were killed in the area in the last couple of weeks in the latest upsurge of violence before the botched February 16 general elections.

Governor Okowa yesterday condemned in strong terms the killing of Ijei. In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, he said he was deeply saddened by the development.

“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the death of Mr. Lawrence Ngozi Ijei, who was my aide until his untimely demise. I condole with his wife and family and urge security agencies to investigate the unfortunate incidence with a view to bringing the perpetrators to justice,” the governor said.

“We have alerted the security agencies of some disturbing security situation in parts of the state and wonder what they are doing because this information has been available to them. We urge Deltans to remain peaceful and maintain the existing peace we have built in the last three and half years,” he added.

What INEC Chairman Is Doing To Make Sure Election Hold

The Independent National Electoral Commission, on Saturday, blamed the postponement of the presidential and National Assembly elections on bad weather which affected flight operations.

The commission, however, said the decision was not due to security reasons, paucity of funds or influence of some external factors.

The chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said
in Abuja during a meeting with stakeholders, including a former Head of State, Gen Yakubu Gowon, that all will be done to make sure elections hold next Saturday.

Yakubu also told the stakeholders that the commission faced “what may well be attempts to sabotage our preparations.”

He said, “I must emphasise that all the ballot papers and result sheets were ready before the elections despite the very tight legal timeframe for finalising the nomination of candidates and dealing with the spate of legal challenges that accompanied them. In this regard, the commission has been sued or joined in over 640 court cases arising from the nomination of candidates.

“As of today, there are 40 different court orders against the commission on whether to add or drop candidates. The net effect of these is that there is usually roughly a one-month window for the commission to print ballot papers and result sheets, and either fly or transport them by road to several destinations until they finally get to each polling unit.

“Unfortunately, in the last one week, flights within the country have been adversely affected by bad weather. For instance, three days ago, we were unable to deliver materials to some locations due to bad weather. We therefore had to rely on slow-moving long haulage vehicles to locations that can be serviced by air, in spite of the fact that we created five zonal airport hubs in Abuja (North-Central), Port Harcourt (South-South and South-East), Kano (North-West), Maiduguri and Yola (North-East) and Lagos (South-West) to facilitate the delivery of electoral logistics.”

The INEC boss added, “Apart from these logistical challenges, we also faced what may well be attempts to sabotage our preparations. In a space of two weeks, we had to deal with serious fire incidents in three of our offices in the Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State; Qu’an Pan LGA of Plateau State and our Anambra State office at Awka.

“In all three cases, serious disruptions were occasioned by the fire, further diverting our attention from regular preparations to recovery from the impact of the incidents. In Isiala Ngwa South, hundreds of PVCs were burnt, necessitating the recompiling of the affected cards and reprinting in time to ensure that the affected voters are not disenfranchised. I am glad that all the cards were quickly reprinted and made available for collection by their owners.

“In Qu’an Pan LGA, our entire office was razed, destroying all the materials prepared for the elections – printed register of voters, ballot boxes, voting cubicles and several generators. Registration areas and over I00 polling units were affected by the fire. We recovered quickly and have since replaced everything destroyed. In addition, we secured a suitable building to conduct the elections.

“Perhaps, the most serious was the fire incident in our Anambra State office at Awka, which destroyed over 4,600 Smart Card Readers being prepared for the elections. These Card Readers take at least six months to procure. Despite this setback, we have practically recovered from this by mopping up every available ones.”

Reacting to the demand by Oshiomhole, the INEC boss said he had apologised to Nigerians on the shortcomings of the commission, adding that the commission was still comfortable that the election would go on until the early hours of Saturday.

According to him, INEC tried getting the support of private airlines to assist in delivering the materials, lamenting that it did not just turn out as planned given the bad weather.

Yakubu said campaigns and distribution of Permanent Voter Cards had closed.

“Despite the postponement of the general elections by one week, campaign and distribution of PVCs remain closed,” he stated.

Speaking on the issue of diaspora voting, he said the commission had already submitted a bill before the National Assembly to allow two categories of Nigerians to vote – those serving the military outside the country and diplomats on foreign missions.

INEC writes RECs, recalls smart card readers
Also, INEC has sent a letter to all its 37 Resident Electoral Commissioners, asking them to return the card readers in their possession for reconfiguration.

It said the action followed the rescheduling of elections.

The Secretary of the commission, Mrs Oriaran-Anthony, gave the directive on behalf of the commission in her letter with reference INEC/SEC/442/VOL.1 and dated February 16.

The letter was titled ‘recall of all smart card readers (SCRs) to state offices’.

It read, “Following the postponement of the 2018 general elections from 16 February and 2nd March, 2019 to 23rd and 9th March, 2019, the commission has directed that all Smart Card Readers, earlier deployed to the local government areas, should be recalled immediately for reconfiguration.
“Please, accept the assurances of the commission’s highest regards always.”

INEC requires five days to reconfigure card readers
A source in the commission told The Punch that the card readers were configured to accept and process data from 8am to 8pm on Saturday, February 16.

“The card readers have been programmed to accept data on Saturday, February 16. The cards were configured to shut down automatically at 8pm on Saturday. When the chairman (Yakubu) wanted to shift the election to Monday, the ITC (Information Technology Centre) informed him that it would take them (officials) five days to reconfigure about 180,000 card readers for another day.

“That was why the chairman could not postpone the elections to Monday, February 18; that was what he wanted to do. It was a very tough decision for him to agree to shift the election by a week,” he added.

El-Rufia Lied Over Killing Of 66 People In Kaduna — CAN, NEMA

The Kaduna State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria on Saturday dismissed claims by Governor Nasir el-Rufai that 66 persons were killed by gunmen in the Kajuru Local Government Area of the state.

The CAN Chairman in the state, Rev. Joseph Hayab, who stated this in a statement, insisted that the governor deliberately gave out the wrong information to deceive people and stir up violence in the state.

The statement read, “The press statement by the spokesman for Kaduna State Governor, Mr Samuel Aruwan, suggests that “the killings in Kajuru Local Government were carried yesterday (Friday) 15/2/2019. This is false in its entirety.

“We are aware that the incident happened in the late hours of Sunday 10 February to February 12, 2019, at about 1am at Gindin Gada in the Maro Ward of Kajuru Local Government, Kaduna State where unidentified hoodlums went into the village and killed about 11 people in their sleep.

“The incident led to reprisals. Two of the suspects were said to have been apprehended and handed over to the Divisional Police Officer in the area. It was in the afternoon of the said date of the attack (as contained in the press statement) that the District Head of Kufana, Mr Titus Dauda, and four of his local chiefs were released after their invitation by the Department of State Services.

“We see this as an illogical intentional, premeditated attempt at stirring violence in the state for whatever expected gains. The incidence of raising false alarm by the Kaduna State Government should make Nigerians realise that some of our leaders are also guilty of hate speech and that makes them major actors in the game that has denied us peace and has claimed the lives of our love ones.’’

Senator Shehu Sani Reacts
The senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district whose constituency covered the affected local government, Shehu Sani, also wondered why the incident that happened on Sunday would be made an issue on the eve of the general elections.

“He said, “What the people of the area told me was that the issue happened since Sunday and the security agencies waded in and resolved it immediately. There was no tension that can threaten peace in the area.

Sani added that the people were ready to vote and refused to be provoked despite desperate attempts by some people to instigate them.

NEMA Dismissed El-Rufai's Claim
Also, the Zonal Coordinator, North-West office of the National Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Ishaya Chonoko, told The Punch in a telephone interview on Saturday that there were no fresh killings in Kajuru LGA on Friday as claimed by the governor.

He attributed the wrong information to the activities of those he described as “unpatriotic Nigerians” who were out to take advantage of the general elections to instigate violence in the state.

Chonoko said, “It is not true that 66 people were killed in Kaduna State. I am in Kaduna now and I can confirm to you that I am not aware of any 66 people that were killed in Kajuru Local Government Area by any unknown gunmen.

“There was an attack last week (Sunday) where 11 people were said to have been killed. It was the usual tribal clash between the Fulani and the indigenes. Anytime there is a clash between two tribes in Kaduna, there is usually reprisal.

“We made necessary contacts only to discover that it was merely a rumour to instigate violence. Please disregard it. It is not true at all.”

A resident of the area, Josiah Joshua, also said that the governor was economical with the truth by claiming that only the Fulani were killed in the attacks.

He said, “The incident happened in the Kajuru LGA and 90 per cent of the residents are Adara tribe and not Fulani. The governor’s claims that Fulani were killed were not true.”

Police Have No Information
The state Police Spokesman, DSP Yakubu Sabo, refused to comment on the incident when contacted by The Punch on Saturday.

He said, “I cannot speak on the issue for now because the Commissioner of Police in charge of the state command will address the press at the appropriate time.”

Election Postponement: INEC Apologises To Nigerians

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has apologised to Nigerians for the last minute postponement of the 2019 general election by one week, saying it was in the interest of all Nigerians.

The electoral umpire also took responsibility for  any inconveniences the postponement might have caused.  Chairman of the Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, tendered the apology while addressing stakeholders in Abuja on Saturday.

The INEC chairman had at the early hours of Saturday announced the postponement of the elections, bare four hours to its commencement.

Giving a reason for the decision, Professor Mahmood Yakubu said the decision was taken after a careful review of the plan for the exercise. He said the postponement was neither politically influenced nor because of security concerns. He blamed bad weather and recent attacks on INEC facilities as some of the reasons.

“Following a careful review of the implementation of its logistics and operational plan and the determination to conduct free, fair and credible elections, the commission came to the conclusion that proceeding with the elections as scheduled is no longer feasible,” he said.

“Consequently, the commission has decided to reschedule the Presidential and National Assembly Elections to Saturday, 23 February 2019.

“Furthermore, the Governorship, State House of Assembly and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council Elections is rescheduled to Saturday 9th March 2019. This will afford the Commission the opportunity to address identified challenges in order to maintain the quality of our elections,” the INEC chairman said.

Do You Know, Veteran Comedian, Baba Suwe, Is Dying & Abandoned By Colleagues

Veteran actor, Baba Suwe is dying! Inside sources say since his celebrated arrest and humiliation for alleged drug smuggling by the NDLEA, Babatunde Omidina a.k.a. Baba Suwe, has never remained his lively self again.

According to The Status, sources told them he is down with an unknown sickness.

Recall three years ago, Yomi Fabiyi brought the story to limelight, but many of his colleagues failed to help.

A Lagos based seasoned radio broadcaster (who pleaded anonymity) to The Status, informed The Status that no one among Baba Suwe’s friends and professional colleagues was willing to help solve his challenge.

Prodded to expatiate, the radio man who claimed he had personally called out such big names like Oga Bello, Jide Kosoko, Dele Odule, Mr. Latin and others on the comedian’s present sorry state, stated that he felt they were running away from Baba Suwe not because he was not good to them but because they are selfish in nature.

"Baba Suwe is a good man. None of his people can say he is bad. And they are not helping him not because he behaved badly to them. They are not helping him because they care only about their family. That’s the nature of our actors, there is no exception. Imagine the caliber of people I told you I had spoken to about Baba Suwe’s case, yet none looks his way yet. But if, God forbid, he dies from the problem, they would be all over the place eulogising his qualities which they helped killed by their lack of empathy," the broadcaster notes.
