Outrage As Buhari Says Death Awaits Ballot Box Snatchers

Lawyers, human rights activists, politicians, and prominent Nigerians on Monday lambasted President Muhammadu Buhari for declaring that death awaited ballot box snatchers during the February 23 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Buhari had stated at APC caucus meeting, “I do not expect anybody to cause any disturbance. The security agencies have identified hot spots and flashpoints and should be prepared to move. We have made as much arrangement as possible for them as much as the country can afford.

“Anybody who decides to snatch ballot boxes or leads thugs to disturb the process, maybe that will be the last unlawful action you will take.

“We have directed the military and other security agents to be ruthless. We are not going to be blamed that we want to rig elections.”

The President noted that he did not need anyone to cause violence on his behalf as he was popular enough to win the presidential election without ballot boxes being snatched for him.

The President added, “I want Nigerians to be respected and let them vote whoever they want across the parties. I am not afraid of that. I went round the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory and I think I have enough support across the country to vote for me.

“So, I want to warn anybody who thinks he has enough influence in his locality to lead a body of thugs to snatch ballot boxes or disturb the voting system, he will do it at the expense of his own life.”

Buhari inciting military, police against Nigerians – PDP
National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, has said President Buhari in his alleged desperation to cling on to power has given marching orders to the military and the police to help leaders of the APC to oppress voters.

He said the President’s remarks amounted to what he called a declaration of war on the Nigerian voters and a direct incitement against them.

Secondus in a statement in Abuja on Monday said , “The President’s confirmation that he has directed the service chiefs to kill Nigerians is nothing but a pre-determined script hatched by the ruling party to create voter apathy and implement their result replacement plans using thugs protected by the military.”

It’s a call for extrajudicial killings – Dogara, civil rights groups
Also, some civil rights groups and the Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, have described Buhari’s order as a call for extrajudicial killings.

Dogara, at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, in his reaction, said, “The President said, ‘anybody who decides to snatch boxes or lead thugs to disturb the elections, maybe that would be the last unlawful action you would take. I have given the military and police the order to be ruthless. I am going to warn anybody who thinks he would lead a body of thugs in his locality to snatch boxes or to disturb the voting system; he would do it at the expense of his/her own life.’

“Mr Oshiomhole also claims that the PDP was given prior notice of the postponement of the elections.

“In this context, we categorically deny these false claims and unnecessary blackmail and regard the President’s statement as a call for extrajudicial killings, considering the fact that there are adequate provisions in our laws to address electoral offences.

“These statements clearly indicate that our democracy has become the victim of a full-blown dictatorship, when one considers that a democratically-elected President would give a directive that is in clear violation of the laws of the land which by his oath of office he is to defend and protect.”

Don’t kill electoral offenders, Falana tells security agents
Speaking in the same vein, a human rights lawyer, Mr Femi Falana (SAN), urged security agents “not to risk their own lives by engaging in extrajudicial killing of ballot snatchers and other electoral offenders.”

He said, “It may interest President Buhari to know that due to the culture of impunity in the land the hundreds of electoral offenders including sponsors and perpetrators of politically-motivated killings arrested by the police in the last six months have been let off the hook due to pressure from highly-connected criminally-minded members of the political class.

“I am tempted to call on the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr Abubakar SAN, to advise the President to withdraw the illegal directive as soon as possible..."

31 Card Readers Recovered Inside Bush In Rivers

Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Rivers State have recovered 31 Electronic Card Readers (ECRs) believed to have been stolen from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The devices were recovered in a bush on Rumuji-Emohua axis of the East-West Road in the Southsouth state. They were allegedly thrown into the bush by thugs who were fleeing to escape arrest.

The thugs were believed to be working for one of the major political parties.

SARS yesterday notified the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Rivers State, Mr. Obo Effanga, seeking for more information and the cooperation of the commission and its officials to ensure detailed investigation.

A top official of the SARS in Rivers, told a reporter in confidence on the telephone that the hoodlums, who drove in a brown Toyota Camry saloon car around 9am on Saturday, were given a hot chase by operatives of the squad, making them to escape, after throwing a bag containing the 31 card readers into the bush.

The SARS chief also revealed that operatives of the police formation continued to search the bush, leading to the later discovery and recovery of the 31 stolen card readers, which was revealed by intelligence as perpetrated by political thugs.

According to the SARS’ top official, the recovered card readers were still in police custody.

It was also learnt that the hoodlums’ car left Port Harcourt for communities in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers to perfect their rigging plans, unaware of 11th hour postponement of the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Buhari's Minister Attacks Oshiomhole Over INEC Chairman

The Minister of Communications, Alhaji Adebayo Shittu, on Monday opposed the call for the resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, by the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, over the postponement of the presidential and National Assembly elections.

Shittu, who spoke with reporters, faulted Oshiomhole’s call, saying
the former Edo State governor was also guilty of superintending the “worst party’s primaries in recent times”. Should Yakubu heed Oshiomhole’s call to resign, the minister said the development might affect the conduct of the rescheduled general elections.

He said, “When Oshiomhole supervised horrible primary elections of the party, who called for his resignation?”

According to him, even if the INEC boss resigns, the elections may be postponed for the new chairman to prepare for fresh elections.

Shittu said, “I will not support such a call for the resignation of the INEC chairman. To err is human. We have not seen any political motivation as to what happened at INEC. If Oshiomhole calls for the resignation of the INEC chairman, he should also be preparing to resign as the chairman of our party.
“Did anybody ask him to resign for the horrible management of the primary elections under his watch?

“These are the first elections that Yakubu will be conducting, so we need to give him the benefit of the doubt and I will advise that all the political parties should be vigilant. If you bring in another chairman, when does such a person begin to learn the process? Or will you on the basis of that call for another rescheduling of the elections?

“Certainly, it is unacceptable for anyone to ask for the resignation of the INEC chairman.”

The defendant, whose residential address was not provided, is facing two counts of conspiracy and stealing.

According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Raphael Donny, the defendant allegedly conspired with others still at large to steal the trailers valued at N10.5m, which were recovered by the police from the suspected kidnap kingpin, whose case is already in court.

Donny said the defendant committed the offences on December 10, 2018, around 3am in the Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos.

Donny stated, “The defendant conspired with the security guard at the place where the exhibits were kept and took the trailers to an unknown destination.

“The defendant was arrested in Katsina and brought back to Lagos to answer to the charges.”

The charges read, “That you, Mashudu Rabiu, and others now at large, on December 10, 2018, around 3am, at Amuwo Odofin, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit; stealing.

“That you, Mashudu Rabiu, and others now at large on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district, did steal three trailers valued at N10.5m, the property of one suspected kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, aka Evans.”

The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (revised).

The prosecutor said Section 287 of the law attracted a seven-year jail term for stealing, while Section 411 stipulated two years in prison for conspiracy.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs B. O. Osunsemi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N2m with two responsible sureties in like sum.

Osunsemi said the sureties must be gainfully employed with evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government and have their addresses verified by the court.

She added that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case till March 23 for hearing.

We Were Shocked To Hear Buhari Live On National Tv Threatening To Kill People- Atiku

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar says threatening people with death in context of election is incitement to electoral violence. Atiku was reacting to a statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari that ballot-snatchers will pay with their lives.

Reacting in a statement, Phrank Shaibu, aide to Atiku, quoted him as saying Buhari’s comment is an offence going by the electoral act and that the retired general is only showing his true colours.

Atiku said the president has “complete” disregard for the country’s laws. “We were shocked to hear General Buhari live on national television threatening to kill people for an offence where no such proscription exists under law.

The last time we looked the death-penalty was not a sanction of the 2010 electoral act,” he said. “In fact, threatening people with death in the context of an election is incitement to electoral violence, which is an offence under that act.

“Once again General Buhari is showing his true colours and complete disregard for our constitution and the laws of this country. He is getting confused with when he was President under military rule.

Photos: Meghan Markle Reportedly Heads To New York For A Baby Shower

Meghan Markle has reportedly returned to New York City to spend some quality time with her girlfriends before her royal baby arrives this spring. The 37-year-old flew from London to New York City on Friday, February, 15, for a five-day trip filled with shopping, good food, and a baby shower with 15 of her closest pals, according to Harper's Bazaar.

The visit marks the first time the Duchess of Sussex has been in the Big Apple since she said 'I do' to Prince Harry in May 2018, and she hasn't wasted any time hitting up her favorite hot spots.

Meghan reportedly joined her close pal and unofficial stylist Jessica Mulroney at Ladurée in SoHo on Saturday to enjoy macarons and tea in one of the location's private spaces.

Meghan Markle attempted to keep a low profile as she stepped out, looking chic, but inconspicuous, in a long black overcoat and a gray newsboy cap pulled down over her dark brown hair.
While the Duchess of Sussex appeared to be making an attempt to go under the radar in her low-key ensemble, the large diamond engagement ring on her wedding finger was unmistakable.

Adorable Photos Of Alicia Keys & Her Family

She was the star of the show as the host of the Grammys in Los Angeles on February 10.

But Alicia Keys was much more, well, low key when she enjoyed an afternoon out with husband Swizz Beatz and their two boys on the Presidents' Day holiday on Monday.

The family hit the Bowlmor Lanes at Chelsea Pier in Midtown Manhattan, New York City.

And they obviously had some success as the 38-year-old hitmaker carried a giant plush green T-Rex as they left the fun facility.

Alicia was dressed in a black padded jacket that she wore over a dark green hoodie, skinny jeans and green and white sneakers with yellow laces.

She pulled a khaki cap low over her brunette tresses as she walked in front of Swizz, who was talking to a friend with a bushy white beard.

Alicia also kept an eye on their sons Egypt, eight, and Genesis, who turned four in December, as they played with a giant blue bouncy ball.

Swizz kept up his rapper creds wearing black from head to toe.

We Wont Accept It, Some INEC Commissioners Have Compromised - Oshiomhole

APC National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole is all out against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the stoppage of the Presidential and National Assembly elections last Saturday.

Oshiomhole, who spoke at the emergency caucus meeting, said
“We have conveyed to INEC, the need to move some officers who have stayed too long in particular locations and have become part of the establishment in those locations and therefore may not be able to conduct free and fair election.

“We have pointed out some Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) who have become so comfortable in their current states who are embedded in the state authority in their respective states.

“In the past, when issues like this are raised, particularly when they can be proven, INEC leadership is known to have used administrative mechanism to change and redeploy. This INEC insists and the more you complain about a compromised officer, the more they are determined to keep the compromised officer.

“For example, an officer in the Southsouth, a REC, chose to use the governor’s special assistant to superintendent over the training. How can our brother and sisters in Akwa Ibom State have confidence when the recruitment, process and deployment of the ad hoc staff is done between INEC and the government of Akwa Ibom State.

“What we are expected to do is to point out what will be unhelpful and draw the attention of the authority. As we speak, that problem persists.

“From what we now know, INEC leadership knew they were going to postpone the election and they shared the information with the PDP and advised them not to waste their resources while pretending to us that they are on top of the situation. I think that INEC deserves to make explanation to us, not because we are the governing party, but because we are a major player.

“What INEC is doing in collusion with PDP is to get the opposition party to be shouting that they want INEC chairman removed under fake attack. If you ask me, I would say that as APC chairman, I second Secondus.

“I have no difficulty seconding Secondus in having a new INEC chairman, if that is what it means to have a credible election. But this is fake; it will be a tragedy if, as a governing party, we cannot complain of being rigged out and yet, the early warning signals are there.

“There are reports of elements in INEC working with anti-democratic forces to gradually move us to a situation where elections will become impossible, having regards to the provisions of the law. Those anti-democratic forces calling for interim government will, therefore appear to be winning.

It is time to assert the authority of state and direct INEC to begin to do what they need to do and if they don’t do it, they must be made to understand that that there are huge consequences. Whoever will preside over Nigeria must do so on the basis of one man, one vote. Those who want short cut to power must be identified and flushed out.

PDP Reacts As Buhari Says 'Snatch Ballot Box, Pay With Your Life'

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday reacted as President Muhammadu Buhari threatened those plotting to snatch ballot boxes during the general elections.

President Buhari had stated that anyone who tries to disrupt the electoral process, will be doing so “at the expense of his own life”.

Reacting, PDP said the remark was a direct call for jungle justice.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP accused the Buhari’s Presidency and the All Progressives Congress of plotting to trigger widespread political crisis to derail Nigeria’s democratic process by plunging “our nation into anarchy.”

PDP said, “Buhari’s threat to the lives of Nigerians, at the opening of APC’s national caucus meeting in Abuja today (Monday), is a direct call for jungle justice and attempt to divert public attention from their closed session where details of their dastardly plot to truncate our democratic process will be perfected.

“We do hope that this call by President Buhari is not camouflaged for the fake soldiers mobilized by the APC to shoot at innocent Nigerians, snatch ballot boxes and execute their rigging plans on the election day. It is indeed a license to kill, which should not come from any leader of any civilized nation.

“The underlining fact to the above is that President Buhari and APC leaders, upon getting to their voting constituencies last Saturday, realized that there is a nationwide rejection of Buhari’s re-election bid, and this has thrown them into a panic mode.

“President Buhari must, however, bear in mind that his resort to threats and scaremongering will not deter Nigerians from coming out en-masse to vote him out of office on February 23.

“We are aware that President Buhari, who had earlier boasted that nobody can ‘unseat’ him, is bent on using every dictatorial and tyrannical act to truncate the process of a free, fair and credible election.

“Intelligence available to us shows that the Buhari Presidency has directed the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately reshuffle the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in order to deploy compromised officials to manipulate the electoral process in President Buhari’s favour, as they did with the police shortly before February 16.”

Socking: 3 Ministers, 2 Ex-Govs Plotting To Bomb INEC Office

Former APC deputy National Publicity Secretary, Timi Frank has raised the alarm over an alleged plot to destabilise the rescheduled polls after the postponement of the presidential elections last Saturday, SaharaReporters reports.

According to frank, there is "a plan to bomb the INEC headquarters in Abuja".

In a statement made available to newsmen on Monday, he noted that the plan is being orchestrated by those who are “bent on destroying democracy in Nigeria at all cost, even if it amounts to total breakdown of law and order, or the loss of lives in achieving their agenda”.

His words: "Top among the planners includes three serving Ministers from the Niger Delta, two former governors and three businessmen all within the ruling party and benefiting from its largesse.

"Following the postponement of the February 16th polls and realizing that the plan for staggered elections may have been busted, these desperate political crooks are at it again, devising yet another grand plan to carry out this evil plot against the Nigerian people.

“Nigerians may recall the mysterious arson on INEC facilities and buildings all around the country happening simultaneously days before the elections.

"Starting off with the burning of the INEC office in Qua'an Pan, Plateau State, to the burning of card readers in Anambra State, to the burning of INEC materials in 5 buses at Akwa Ibom and other INEC facilities nationwide, it will be safe therefore to note that these events are not a coincidence, but rather a grand plot to disenfranchise the opposition strongholds which is currently underway.”

He also alleged that there were plans to seek the services of militants in the Niger Delta region, noting that the militants would have the backing of the Nigerian Army.

"Having realised that the grand scheme of rigging the polls may have been busted by the INEC chairman giving to the postponement of the elections, these desperadoes are bent on doing everything possible in achieving their aim, including the truncating of our hard-earned democracy for selfish gains. We are also aware that the services of some Niger Delta militants are being sought after to carry out this dastardly act, even at a time when the region is being faced with its worst times under the current administration.

"These militants are being promised the backing of the military authorities as well as being rewarded handsomely should they succeed in carrying out these attacks. I am, therefore, urging all true sons of the Niger Delta to desist forthwith from allowing themselves to be used by these agents of darkness, as no true son of the region will volunteer for such doom, irrespective of any pecuniary gains.

"I would like to thank our foreign partners (EU, UK, US, ECOWAS monitoring group) on the electoral roles already carried out in Nigeria and also urge the US, UK and the EU to continue with its good works and to further beam its satellite on Nigeria in the wake of this grave revelation at a time when the country prepares for its general election.

"The desperation by these individuals for their paymasters is as deadly as treason committed on the Nigerian nation. Furthermore if this plot is true, then we may be faced with the likely scenario of the ‘body bags’ as suggested by a chieftain of the ruling party on all who may be present at the INEC office including the foreign observers."

Frank urged security agencies to beef up security and surveillance around the INEC headquarters and appealed to the INEC chairman to remain resolute in the delivery of duty.

"We are aware of the happenings in INEC including the role to be played by Amina Zakari, who is now in charge of Collation and RACTEC unit under the IT Department. Let it be known that any move to frustrate the wishes of Nigerians will be resisted by all peace loving Nigerians,” he added.

Buhari Talks Touch: INEC Must Explain Certain Things

President Muhammadu Buhari has suggested that the Independent National Electoral Commission would be made to explain the “real reasons” behind its “incompetence” after all the scheduled elections must have been concluded.

Buhari insisted that INEC had no reason to postpone the elections.

Speaking at the national caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress held at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja on Monday, the President said, “Definitely, the reason why such incompetence manifested has to be explained to the nation. After the elections, we have to know exactly what happened and who is responsible.

“Otherwise, our efforts to make sure that this system is acceptable would have been eroded. The Constitution and the law protected INEC. But they must not take us for granted.
“If, for example, the National Assembly refused to approve what they wanted, INEC would have had moral reasons why they couldn’t perform.

“If the time of four years of election was not constitutionally obeyed by the government, INEC would have a case.

“But we don’t understand the reason for this inefficiency and we have to go into details after the election to find out who is responsible.”

Man Tries To Sleep With Mentally Challenged Woman Hours Before She Gives Birth In Delta

A mentally unstable woman has delivered a baby girl in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, at the early hours of Monday. After the delivery, residents in the area particularly women promptly cleaned her up, provided her with food and clothing.

An unidentified man who allegedly impregnated the mad woman was said to have sneaked into the area to have s*x with her late Sunday night with the pregnancy but she refused him and before anyone could come out, he had escaped.

A Senior Female Police Officer carried the baby after the woman’s delivery yesterday morning.

A team of Policemen from the “A” Division led by the Divisional Police Officer, SP Olawale Ayoola stormed the scene with the baby girl and carried the mother to the hospital for treatment.

Good Nigerians in the area had been responsible for upkeep of the woman before she delivered.
