Superstar fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has died aged 85 in Paris following a short illness. The German designer, who was the creative director for Chanel and Fendi, was one of the industry's most prolific figures and worked up until his death.
His signature ponytail and dark glasses made him an instantly recognisable figure around the world.
Industry heavyweights, including Italian designer Donatella Versace, issued heartfelt tributes. "Today the world lost a giant among men," said the editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine, Anna Wintour.
Rumours of Lagerfeld's ill health had swirled for several weeks after he missed a number of events - including Chanel's spring/summer show last month.
He died on Tuesday morning after being admitted to hospital the night before, French media report.

Michael Jackson used to be so lonely he would cry while watching children playing in the park and had a collection of mannequins he told his secrets to.
The King of Pop, who died of a drug overdose in June 2009, spent his childhood being hit, beaten and abused by his patriarchal father Joe Jackson, who denied him and his siblings their birthdays and Christmas celebrations.
Michael and his Jackson 5 co-stars were expected to sing and dance perfectly, with their father threatening them with violence if they made mistakes during their gruelling rehearsals.
As a result, the Thriller star would roam the streets looking for strangers to befriend and even watched kids in playgrounds while crying at his own lost childhood.
In conversation with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach shortly before his death, Jackson emotionally revealed the scars from his younger years and how he would talk to mannequins just to feel less alone.
"I was looking for people to talk to. I was so lonely I would cry in my room upstairs. I would think, 'That's it. I am getting out of here,' and I would walk down the street. I remember really saying to people, 'Will you be my friend?'" he confessed in The Michael Jackson Tapes: A Tragic Icon Reveals His Soul in Intimate Conversation.
"They were like, 'Michael Jackson!' I would go, 'Oh god! Are they going to be my friend because of Michael Jackson? Or because of me?' I just wanted someone to talk to."
Jackson admitted he would watch the local children playing on swings in the park opposite his recording studio, explaining that he never felt like a real teenager.
"I wanted so badly to play in the park across the street because the kids were playing baseball and football but I had to record. I could see the park, right across the street. But I had to go in the other building and work until late at night making the albums," he said.
"I sat there looking at the kids with tears running down my face and I would say, 'I am trapped and I have to do this for the rest of my life. I am under contract.' But I wanted to go over there so bad it was killing me, just to [meet] a friend to say, 'Hi.' I used to walk the streets looking for someone to talk to.."
The singer admitted he "knew something was wrong" with him as he would confide in his many child-sized mannequins, which were discovered in his Neverland ranch after his death in an array of bizarre poses.
"I needed someone ... That’s probably why I had the mannequins," he told the Rabbi in his tapes.
"I would say because I felt I needed people, someone, I didn't have ... I was too shy to be around real people. I didn't talk to them. It wasn't like old ladies talking to plants. But I always thought I wanted something to make me feel like I had company.
"I always thought, 'Why do I have these?' They are like real babies, kids, and people, and it makes me feel like I am in a room with people."
Jackson added it was "children all over the world - all children" that gave him strength after his own horrifying childhood.

The death toll in the recent attacks in Kaduna State has risen to 130, Governor Nasir El-Rufai announced today.
The killings occurred in Kajuru Local Government Area of the state.
Mr El-Rufai had earlier on Friday announced that 66 persons were killed by unknown attackers there.
Addressing State House correspondents after attending an expanded security meeting summoned by
President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, the governor said the figures had gone up.
The security meeting, convened to discuss the resurgence of insecurity in Kaduna, Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States, was attended by three governors and security chiefs.
Several persons initially doubted the report of the killings, which came on the eve of the now postponed presidential elections. Mr El-Rufai said those who doubted them were “grossly irresponsible”.
He said as governor, he receives and reads security briefings every morning. “I work only on that basis,” he said.
The governor said “the latest report shows that over 130 were killed, not even 66”.
Mr El-Rufai also said relatives of the victims have already provided the state government with the names of those killed. He said the names will be released to the media.

Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji says Osas married down o. She then went on to defend her. Here’s what the Nigerian social entrepreneur and human development expert wrote on her Facebook page.
ON OSAS & GBENRO.
This is my Son in my office, about 13months old in these photos in January 2019.
Mine is perhaps one of the most insane schedules a working woman can have. On this day, I had important meetings at work, my Husband had travelled and my Son was ill, I was scared to take him to Creche so I packed a crib, his bags et al and took him to work. I took breaks in between calls & typing emails to change diapers and feed him. I worked when he slept. That day, I learnt something very simple in a very profound way - RESPONSIBILITY TEACHES EMPATHY.
My colleagues came to check on my son & I seized the chance to tell the women to feel free to bring their children to work on challenging days like this if they have any.
People who work with me know I give a lot of room & support to our female staff. I menstruate so I understand the days they are moody & cranky. I know people have to come to work on days their boyfriends are breaking their hearts. Women go through multiple challenges in the line of duty while chinning up Professional Careers.
I read the ignominious public commentary Gbenro published on social media about his Wife, Osas yesterday & I cringe for Women who "marry down". To Bosses at Work & Husbands at home, if you've ever been responsible in your Life, you'll know how to care & nurture. No one will need to teach you to be kind & liberal.
Even if Osas was ever wrong, that puerile outburst from an absentee husband/father is telling of his poor character.
I don't hold brief for Osas & I hope she adjusts where/if she should but a Man whose diatribe on social media was intended to destroy you is unfit for your Leadership & undeserving of your Love.
One more reason I remain thankful for my healthy self esteem & radical mind which made me not marry till I turned 31 despite societal pressure but which also made me wait & live my life on my own terms until I met a grounded & solid Man who loves & respects me. Men don't come factory fitted or with NAFDAC No. so there are no perfect men anywhere but Never Marry Down Ladies. Keep Growing - Everything Good will come.
P.S. Enemies, It's a Monday so I'm working and this has nothing to do with Feminism.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has invited Okechukwu Ibeanu, the national commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in charge of logistics, for questioning.
This is believed to be related to the fiasco that led to the postponement of the general election by one week. The man has cried out over alleged intimidation.
Mahmood Yakubu, a professor and INEC chairman, had blamed the postponement on sabotage and logistical issues.
Also invited by the DSS are Chidi Nwafor, the director of ICT; Ken Ukeagu, director of procurement; Osaze Uzzi, director of voter education and publicity; and Bimbo Oladunjoye, the assistant director of ICT.
Ahmad Mu’azu, the chairman of the ad hoc committee on logistics, is yet to be invited.
Although Ibeanu, a professor of political science, is in charge of logistics having taken over from Amina Zakari in October 2018, a different ad hoc committee was set up specifically for the elections.
The ad hoc committee, which has 17 members, is headed by Ahmed Tijjani Mu’azu, a retired air vice marshal.
A source told TheCable that Ibeanu has been invited to report to the DSS headquarters in Abuja at 2pm on Tuesday.
Ibeanu is said to have complained to his friends that he was being intimidated. His house in Enugu and his car have reportedly been broken into with valuables, including laptops and iPads, taken away.
The Theatre Arts and Motions Pictures Producers Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) on Monday denied abandoning one of its members, Babatunde Omidina aka Baba Suwe, in the hospital.
Baba Suwe is said to be currently battling with an undisclosed illness.
Speaking with reporters in Abeokuta on Monday, the National President of the association, Bolaji Amusan, said the report was sponsored by mischief-makers to discredit TAMPAN.
Amusan, popularly known as Mr Latin, said the association had been taking care of the veteran actor’s medical bills since 2017, under the administration of immediate-past President, Dele Odule.
He said, "I have just instructed the Lagos State executive of the association to check on him (Baba Suwe) to ascertain his health progress.
“I can tell you that we have not abandoned Baba Suwe, as well as any of our members, as being speculated in some quarters by mischief-makers.”
However, Amusan said they had designed a new policy to help members of the association.
