Toke Makinwa’s Wednesday Slay!!!

INEC Mistakenly Sends Kebbi’s Materials To Kaduna

Some of the election materials meant for the Saturday elections in Kebbi State were “mistakenly” taken to Kaduna State and those meant for Katsina were brought to Kebbi, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Kebbi State, Ahmad Mahmud has said.

The REC, during his interactions with journalists after inspecting the elections sensitive materials at the Central Bank of Nigeria’s state office in Birnin Kebbi, said “Two of our forms-EC 8D1 and EC 8E1 were mistakenly taken to Kaduna and that of Katsina was brought to Kebbi.

“We discover it during the inspection and they are already bringing it back to Kebbi.”

The REC said INEC in Kebbi State had received all the sensitive materials meant for the presidential and national assembly elections and would start distributing them on Wednesday across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.

Maina: EFCC Vows To Appeal Court Judgement

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it will appeal Tuesday’s judgement of a Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, restraining the commission from declaring the Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, Mr Abudulrasheed Maina, wanted.

The court also gave an order of perpetual injunction restraining the commission and its affiliates from further declaring Maina wanted in relation to the issue of pension scam.

EFCC acting spokesman, Mr Tony Orilade, made this known in a press statement in Abuja. Orilade said the commission will appeal the judgement.

“We further wish to state that we will not relent to do all that is required within the ambit of the law in our avowed commitment to bring every Nigerian with ill-gotten wealth to justice,” he said.

Mum Finds Heartbreaking Letter From Daughter Written Hours Before She Died In Her Sleep

A mum has revealed the heartbreaking birthday letter her daughter wrote her - just hours before the 17-year-old died in her sleep.

Tanya Russell, from Somerset, was blown away by the loving note Johdi penned for her birthday.

The youngster, who was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2016, died after a seizure on October 5, 2017. Her parents had stayed at home to care for after she had a fit hours earlier.

And they even scrapped a planned trip to Marbella as worried mum Tanya felt a "sense of foreboding".

The cancelled holiday meant the loving parents were in the house when their daughter died.

Explaining her decision to stay in the UK, Tanya said: "Mark and I planned to go to Marbella for a few days.

"But weeks before the flight I had a terrible feeling of foreboding. So I cancelled.

"I can’t explain it. I knew I couldn’t leave them. If I had gone, she would have died when I was away."

On the day she died, Johdi had been off college after suffering an epileptic fit.

At around 12.25pm, Tanya found her daughter slumped over in her room.

She phoned 999 and remembers being in a "blur" as paramedics and a doctor who had been airlifted in battled to save her.

Medics worked on Johdi for two hours but she sadly passed away.

A post mortem revealed the teenager died from sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP.)

And now Tanya, who has still has "incredibly dark days" 15 months since her daughter's passing, wants to raise awareness for SUDEP.

According to Mimi, it was the day, Jack started demanding huge money from her and she couldn’t say no. She  also claims she almost lost her 2018 Range Rover to him and worse still, he did the same to another lady – popular twitter user-- @GossipGirliee. So upset is Mimi that she said a lot. Many have also been retweeting her and saying they also know some victims.

'@Jackdre02 has denied all allegations by the way. Sit down and consume this early morning drama! Oh dear, they say a lot happen on that twitter o, it is TRUE!!!

Mimi Tweets;

''I was actually going to keep quiet and now @jackdre02 you are nothing but a manipulator and everything will come out today. I'm ready.

''The mistake I made was getting involved with this idiot @jackdre02 and all the problem started when he asked me for money and I said no. This was a normal routine for him. Everyday babe I need this babe I need that.

''This guy asked me to send him my palm and I stupid enough to do it & two days after that I was just saying yes to everything he wanted me to do. In a way I became his life because of his jazz. Sometimes I even had to go borrow money just to make him happy.

''He told me whenever you loan me money never discuss it in a chat and always act like you are giving it to me and because you dont know who is going to read your chats. Jack did you not say that to me @jackdre02 and I fell for that lie because that how he plays his game.

''I'm not the first person he did this to @jackdre02 did you not do the same thing to @GossipGirliee she loan you money for your rent and bought the iphone you are using now and was even feed your broke ass! You wanna deny that? After she sent you her pant yahoo boy

''You play on people intelligence and like you always tell me Twitter people love you so they'll fall for anything you say because they are stupid. Mr sub delivery zone are you ready for more? @jackdre02

''This @jackdre02 told me he and his brother in law have clients in the state and he needed someone to transactions for him and was going to be a cash deposit and I agreed not knowing that it was scam! He's always asking me to do transaction and if I say no he gets very upset.

''In less than 3 months I have sent this guy $20k of my own personal money and when I was doing it I had no idea all i know is that i was saying yes to his every command. First week of talking to him I sent him $600 for airpods.

''I have over 6 of this that I asked my assistant to send him money. You guys just wait I have receipt of everything. All the money I've sent him and he called them gifts.

''This guy was complaining about his car how his car wont start and he hates when ppl see him in such a car and I then said I have a Range Rover you can use for the main time & the first thing he said please put the car in my name I cant drive it if it in your name babe @jackdre02

''I was like wtf I'm trying to help you with a car and you are only concerned with that fact that the car is in my name? This was a 2018 range btw. So that was one red flag for me and I started questioning him that is he using me or maybe he takes me for a stupid person.

''I have a house in Lekki and he was now asking me do people on Twitter know where I live and I told him no I'm lowkey and he was like good when we get to your house I'll take pictures and act like your house is my house. I want Twitter ppl to see me flex and I was like ok babe

''Like he told me few weeks ago if I ever try to drag him on this Twitter that his followers will all bully me cause they love him and he's going to tell them that I'm a bitter ex and tweet my nudes so I was kinda scared tbh. So I kept quiet.

''This dude called me and said he was broke and was literally crying or pretending like he was crying on the phone and I sent him $1200 for his upkeep just for a week. You wanna deny this too jack @jackdre02 ? I got time. I'm already for you. You can leak my nudes if you want.

''He has a style he uses. He wont ask for something directly on chat he usually does it during calls so for Christmas I bought him gifts that cost over $8k and because I refused to give him those gifts he broke up with me at first Lmaoo just imagine @jackdre02 true or false?

''Since I was dating this guy it was always one problem after another. My car is this my car is that. He was so broke I even had to buy him AC for his apartment that @GossipGirliee paid for.

Photos: How Girl Abused Her Boyfriend For Yearsss

To friends and family she was a kind animal-loving mother with a degree in fine art who raised money for vulnerable children in Africa.

But behind closed doors, Jordan Worth was a bully who hurled boiling water over her boyfriend, Alex Skeel, 23, and used knives and a hammer to subject him to abuse so horrendous doctors said he was days from death.

She banned him from her bed, decided what clothes he could wear, isolated him from friends and family and took over his  Facebook  account, a court heard.

Worth, who came from a "loving and supportive family", even withheld food from him, causing his weight to plummet from 10 stone to just seven.

Neighbours in Stewartby, Bedfordshire, described hearing him shout "get off me, you are hurting me” and he was seen with black eyes, burns, limping and once with his arm in a sling.

Last April, evil 23-year-old Worth was caged for seven-and-a-half years.

The horrific torment Alex endured is the subject of a BBC documentary called  Abused By My Girlfriend which in on the BBC iPlayer.
His heartbroken grandfather, Gerald Cockings, admitted the programme "was one of the hardest things to watch".

But added: "I'm so pleased he came out of this and has found the will power to share his story and let other men know it's okay to admit what's going on."

Alex and Worth's romance began at Bedford College in 2012 when they were both aged 16 and they became "besotted" with each other.

She was "caring, confident and loving" and Alex's friends described her as "delightful."

The relationship "seemed normal" but Alex soon spotted warning signs when his girlfriend started playing games.

But they continued to appear to be just like any other couple, posting loved-up selfies, declaring their affection for each other on social media and enjoying birthday trips to theme parks and concerts.

In one Facebook post, an apparently smitten Worth gushed about her "best friend" Alex and said: "You have changed so much and into a man but are still the same little cutie.

"Loved you then, love you still, always have and always will."

She even shared a snap of a piece of toast in which she had spread the jam in the shape of a heart for "her man."

When her erratic behaviour got too much, Alex broke things off with her and Worth dropped the bombshell she was pregnant.

He didn't hear from her for around a year until his mum got a text from Worth saying 'are you willing to see your grandson?'

Alex thought becoming a mum may have changed her and his family told him to give her a second chance.

She moved into the family home, but 'cracks began to show' and she made Alex chose between her and his son or his family.

They later moved in together to the quaint village of Stewartby in July 2016.

They would go on to welcome a daughter in May 2017. By that time Alex hadn't spoken to his parents for two years.

But the couple looked a picture of happiness as they posed for family portraits together.

However Worth, who had also gained a 2:1 Honours Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Hertfordshire, was secretly abusing Alex and busy spinning a web of lies.

The popular aspiring teacher, who volunteered to help abandoned animals, was torturing him mentally and physically but Alex "thought it was normal" because he had never had a girlfriend before.

"The physical went on for nine months and the psychological abuse was about four years," he said.

He claims she also told him: "If you ever try to escape you will die, because I will run you over in my car."

The young dad had been blinded by love and relentlessly put up with the pain inflicted upon him by Worth who used a knife, hammer and boiling water.

He said Worth forced him to sleep on the floor for around eight months and used clothes as a makeshift duvet and pillow.

He also had to wear the same clothes every day.

“There was nothing I could do," Alex said. "There was no way of contacting anyone. She told me if I ever tried to leave she would kill me."

The abuse came to an end when a neighbour heard them fighting and called police in June 2017.

We Are Now Ready For Election, says INEC Chairman

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday began the public confidence rebuilding process, telling Nigerians that it is now ready to hold the poll as rescheduled for this Saturday nationwide.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, in his first progress report told the media in Abuja that the hitches that caused the poll shift have been cleared and that the fresh time-lines for the conduct of the election are now being met.

Specifically, he said the commission has achieved
98 percent reconfiguration of its smart card readers, saying it is a significant milestone towards the conduct of the election and assured that the remaining two per cent would be completed today.

Responding to media reports that a couple of its senior officials are being quizzed by the Department of State Security (DSS), raising fears that the commission’s work might be hampered, Yakubu denied the reports and said no director or national commissioner of the commission has been arrested by the DSS.

However, checks revealed that six senior staff members of the commission, including Professor Okechukwu Ibeano, Mr. Festus Okoye, Mr. Osaze Uzi and others, were invited by DSS.

But Yakubu stated: “No commissioner of the commission was picked up by any security agency; no house of any commissioner of INEC was raided; no any commissioner of INEC has been picked up by security agencies. The particular commissioner you are referring to that was mentioned in the social media is as we speak, in his office in the commission. Similarly, no six directors were picked up by any security agencies.”

The chairman revealed that by 4p.m. on Monday, all issues relating to the delivery of the materials were identified and virtually addressed.

According to him, “Last Saturday, the commission, after extensive review of our preparedness for the 2019 general election, decided that it was necessary to reschedule the elections by one week.

"As I explained to stakeholders, we were constrained to shift the polls due to severe challenges and lapses we experienced with arrival and distribution of sensitive materials, as well as the fires that gutted some of our offices in quick succession, destroying several election materials.”

He said INEC had identified six areas covering three broad areas like deployment of materials, movement of personnel and reconfiguration of smart card readers.

Yakubu said: “Let me, therefore, present to you the level of implementation so far achieved as follows; by 4p.m. yesterday, all issues relating to the delivery of the materials were identified and virtually addressed. Ballot papers, result sheets and a host of non-sensitive materials are now in location across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

“Our state offices commenced the process of inviting stakeholders to the Central Bank of Nigeria to examine the retrieved materials deployed last week and to witness the batching of materials according to local government areas. This is on-going at the moment and is expected to be completed today, Tuesday 19, February 2019.

“The movement of materials to LGAs for batching according to wards and polling units shall take place on Wednesday, 20 and Thursday, 21 February 2019.

“All Registration Area Centres (RACs) are to be activated by 9a.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019. Personnel and materials should be at the RACs by mid-day on Friday, February 22, 2019.

“Refresher training for ad hoc personnel should take place at the RACs on Friday, February 22, 2019. Personnel and materials must arrive at the Polling Units latest 7a.m. on Saturday 23, February 2019. Opening of polls nationwide will take place at 8a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2019.”

Explaining further on the rationale for a week long postponement of the polls, the INEC Chairman said; “You would recall that in my address to stakeholders, I mentioned that we intended to reschedule the elections for just 24 hours to enable us to deliver the final batch of sensitive materials for the elections.

"However, our ICT team notified us that it would require more time to reconfigure the Smart Card Readers in time for the elections. Let me explain why. The Smart Card Readers (SCRs) are configured to only open for use at 8am on Election Day, and to automatically shut down by 10pm

"This is designed to forestall any illegal use of the SCRs before the appointed time of elections. There are roughly 180,000 SCRs to be deployed for the elections and the ICT team said that they would require 5-6 days to complete the configuration.

"I am glad to say that as at today, about 98 percent of the SCRs have been reconfigured and we are confident that by tomorrow all would be ready, which is a day earlier than scheduled."

The INEC chairman also stated that campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections shall now end at midnight on Thursday, February 21, 2019, while campaigns for the governorship, state assembly and FCT Area Council elections shall end at midnight Thursday, March 7, 2019.
He explained that preparations for governorship, state assembly and FCT Area Council elections are well underway, saying already, the sensitive materials for the elections have started arriving at various locations for onward movement to various CBN branches across the country.

Yakubu further stated: “Indeed, some of these materials arriving through our airports have been erroneously construed by some people as materials for the elections holding this weekend. I want to reassure you all that all materials for the rescheduled presidential and National Assembly elections next Saturday are already in the states ready for deployment to LGAs, Ward and Polling Units.

"We have learnt a lesson from the preparations for the elections holding this weekend. For this reason, we shall start the movement of materials for the next elections early to ensure that nothing disrupts our process.

“While we fully understand the disappointment and even anger that followed that rescheduling of the elections on February 16, I wish to appeal to stakeholders to be more dispassionate and circumspect in their comments in order not to overheat the polity.

"The commission is focusing on the elections to be held on February 23 and 9th March 2019 to ensure that they are free, fair and credible. We urge all Nigerians to participate fully in the elections, notwithstanding the disappointment caused by the rescheduling of dates.”

He said INEC would continue to speak to Nigerians daily to let them know the extent of readiness of the commission.

Matters Arising On Buhari's "Pay With Your Life" Order

Post-colonial realities in Nigeria and the ascendancy and sustenance of political merchants in the corridors of power have sustained the reproduction of similar faults and errors. In the area of election shifting, it has progressed from weeks to month and the latest one came like a thief in the night.

It was similar to inviting people for a wedding with the bride and groom only sending text messages to inform guests who had arrived the venue that the wedding had been shifted because the officiating pastor cited unfulfilled rites. I won’t talk about the loss in investment of Nigerians who had planned to make some profits while selling for those who would come out to vote. The billions of naira spent by political parties on agents, accommodation and security had gone down the drain. Some university lecturers mobilised as collation and returning officers had left for their assigned locations on Friday to enable them have free movement because INEC could not get sufficient election duty pass to them.

What about the future leaders — corps members who historically have been treated badly? Their own treatment merits ‘Now Your Suffering Continues’ (NYSC). How do you then expect a cohort of young people treated like slaves to first think about Nigeria and not themselves when they can see what Nigeria continues to offer them in terms of low quality education, zoo-like hostels in schools and NYSC camps and even on election duty? What about those who have had to postpone their weddings because of February 16 and March 2 and have had to shift to February 23 and March 9? Consider migration costs and losses; think about the implications of a shut-down Saturday economy in Nigeria. As usual, no one is guilty, no one is punished. The worthless treatment of Nigeria and Nigerians is to continue.

As the ‘maradonic’ INEC chairman, Mahmoud Yakubu, battles to fix his ‘logistic’ problems within a week, the “converted democrat” and President of our Federal Republic, Muhammadu Buhari, at the All Progressives Congress caucus meeting reportedly ordered security agencies to be ruthless with ballot box snatchers. He would also extend the ruthlessness to ‘local champions’ who think they can lead thugs to disrupt elections.

Rather than impress it on law enforcement agents to ensure that the treatment of electoral offenders must follow the provisions contained in the Electoral Act, Mr President would prefer to borrow the caustic tongue of the man in Khaki. Consulting thesaurus, ‘ruthless’ also means ‘cold-blooded’, ‘merciless’, brutal, cruel, callous, pitiless, unfeeling, hard-nosed to mention but a few. It is not only the order of Mr President that is scary, what is troubling in this season of elections is the ability of the security to properly interpret and/or convert this order in dealing with the ‘saints’ and ‘sinners’.

Perceived enemies of the incumbent may face ruthless treatments. Areas where the incumbent party are unpopular may witness hardnosed security men designed to unleash cruel treatment to law-abiding civil populace. I recall the ruthless treatments in Ekiti and Osun in 2018. Experience with this 20-year old democracy has shown that ex-military men and their relatives in power are likely to reference constitution in their dealings with the people.

During the Obasanjo era came the ‘do-or-die’ politics with untoward consequences on hapless Nigerians who became victims of ruthless ideological state apparatuses. In 2015, the national leader of the ruling broom party in the South-West was most popular with His ‘rig and roast’ threat. There is another who feels no one should question him. He is the “constituted authority”. He treats people without reference to law but wants people to reverence him in relation to what constitution bestowed in him. Recall the ‘go and die’ pronouncement of a former labour, governor in faraway Edo State and now Chairman of the “4+4=8” party to that poor woman on the street of Benin City.

Mr President needs to know that such a pronouncement further emboldens the already dreaded security agencies in Nigeria. Our security men are daily accused of human rights abuses. Trigger-happy police, army, customs, immigration officers kill for a pittance let alone with an executive backing order. Furthermore, the directive paves the way for the extortion and exploitation of voters at the slightest opportunity by the security men during the coming polls. Snatching ballot boxes is a criminal offence and there is administration of criminal justice that must be followed. We have languished too much in the wilderness of slavery that those in power see their pronouncements only from their point of view without deep introspect of the spiral and multiple interpretations to which it can be reconstructed.

Did the President order ruthless treatment to the thugs who unleashed terror during the declaration of Babajide Sanwo-Olu in Lagos State? Political parties undertake their campaigns with contracted political thugs with law enforcement agencies but they never get arrested. These principalities are allowed to live with us because they are useful for the parasitic elites in power. Local warriors and intimidators are contracted by politicians to terrorise under the watchful eyes of law enforcers. Even when they are arrested, a phone call gets them back to the streets where they continue to unleash terror. Mr President must learn to talk with the constitution and not outside of it.

To sum up, I strongly feel that the postponement of the polls has affected both the ruling and main opposition parties in their calculations of being victorious. They are now more desperate than before and will continue to utter accusations and counter-accusations. These are signs that both are not certain of victory. All actors must therefore watch their tongues. While INEC must ensure that the processes leading to the outcome remain clean, free and fair, the security agents must not do the bidding of candidates. They must protect Nigerians who come out to legitimately cast their votes.

We must treat all persons mobilised to participate in the elections as humans and not slaves. This is how they will be shielded from being compromised. If Mr President wins, the next level is to use the constitution which he is finding difficult to work with.

If it is Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, Nigeria must work again by upholding the rule of law, and fundamental human rights of citizens. Both leading parties must jettison do-or-die politics or snatch-and-die directive. All Nigerians want is a peaceful atmosphere for them to speak with their votes.

Akpabio Cries Out: INEC Is Supporting PDP To Win

Senator Godswill Akpabio has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of working with Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel to enable to PDP win the election.

According to him, while the commission is an independent body, some of its officials are not completely independent. Akpabio, who addressed reporters in Abuja, claimed that Governor Emmanuel was working with some officials of INEC to compromise the elections.

He said: “You know that INEC is an Independent body, but
some of its officials are not totally independent. We have noticed some unholy alliances with the government in power in some states. For example, in Akwa Ibom, we have seen the body language of the government, which clearly shows that it will not be able to conduct credible elections, giving the parties, particularly the APC, a level playing ground.

“APC has no intention of taking Akwa Ibom. The only intention of APC is to reflect the will of the people which today remains 80-90 per cent APC. My people are quite determined to join the centre politics; some of them, who are politicians, have been defecting and those who are not politicians are declaring their support for the APC.

“When people are with you, you will win election, but when they are not with you, you don’t win. These are not hired crowds. People say they have doubt about Akwa Ibom will become an APC state. I can tell you that Akwa Ibom is already an APC state, just waiting for election to happen.

“I believe strongly that the APC has done well, particularly in the last two months of campaigns. We thank God that the President was able to show not just his fitness, but his capacity and capability to continue to run the affairs of the country till 2023...”

The mother-of-three was just 39-years-old when she went through the "tough" journey.

Vera revealed she is now the face of a post-mastectomy swimwear range launched by charity Future Dreams.

"It was really difficult and moving to another country I couldn’t speak English at all. Back home I was a GP and had a wonderful career."

Vera confessed she struggled to learn the language at first and felt "unfulfilled" after losing her profession.

She said: "The journey I had was really tough. At a young age, treatment tends to be more rigours and prolonged.

"When it's diagnosed younger, treatment gets to be more intense and extensive. I had chemotherapy and radiotherapy and a mastectomy."

"Sorry it's still hard to talk about," confessed Vera as she wiped away tears.

Vera, who is now a psychiatrist working for the NHS, is the face of a new lingerie collection for women who are post-mastectomy.
