Photo: 80-Year-Old Woman Who Enrolled In Primary One Begs For Money To Pay School Fees

Lol. I wonder why this is an issue. The school should at least make hers FREE. She is a special student. An 80-year-old woman has enrolled for Primary One at Jesus is King Nursery and Primary School in Bugandalo Village, Ibulanku Sub-county in Bugweri District, Uganda with an aim of becoming a teacher.

Ms Maria Obonyo, a farmer, on Monday said after enduring a lot of ‘suffering and ridicule’, she decided to go to school to learn how to speak and write in English.

“I decided to enrol at the school because I lost all my relatives and there was nobody to take care of me. I am determined to study until I graduate from Makerere University as a teacher,” she said.

Should Ms Obonyo complete her school cycle, she will be 96 by then.

Ms Obonyo, however, says she currently faces a myriad of challenges, notably being unable to meet her school fees amounting to Shs35,000 per term.
“I also need a better structure to sleep in because I am currently staying with the village LC1 chairman, Mr Twaha Magero,” she says.

According to Mr Magero, Ms Obonyo’s decision to enrol for Primary One at such an age is an eye-opener to her agemates and those who had dropped out of school to resume.

The director of the school, Ms Stella Tayona, says Ms Obonyo enrolled at her school in Baby Class in 2015 and graduated from Top Class last year.

“She is a hardworking pupil who never misses classes and is social to fellow classmates,” Ms Tayona says, adding that the school currently foots most of her basic scholastic requirements although she is seeking help from well-wishers.

Nothing To Lose -- 21 Savage WARNS!!!

It appears ICE has chosen the wrong dude to mess with, because 21 Savage is making it clear -- he's got nothing to lose, lol.

21 was spotted leaving a meeting yesterday in L.A. and his hoodie read, "nothing to lose." Unclear if the message speaks to his current legal situation -- the rapper is facing deportation -- or if he just liked the look.

What's more… the hoodie is from Topman, a UK based company -- where we recently learned 21 was born. So does he really have anything to lose? Bloody! Hope he is really talking to the immigration guys tho, we love!!!

Savage is free on bail pending a deportation hearing.

Will Smith To Play Venus & Serena Williams' Dad In New Movie -- King Richard

Will Smith will play Richard Williams, the father of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams, in the movie “King Richard.”

The film, based on a script by Zach Baylin, will center on Richard Williams overcoming hardship, skepticism, controversy, and his own troubled past to instruct his daughters, starting when they were four years old on the tennis courts of Compton, Calif. — despite not having a background in tennis.

Baylin’s script was runner-up on the 2018 Black List.

Serena has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, starting with the US Open in 1999. Venus has seven Grand Slam singles, starting with Wimbledon in 2000. The sisters have combined for 14 Grand Slam doubles championships.

MJ’s Fans Come For Oprah Winfrey! You Will Die One Day & Those In Your Inner Circle Will Lead The Lie Against You

Oprah Winfrey is getting inundated with hate-filled messages from Michael Jackson fans ahead of her big interview with his accusers from "Leaving Neverland."

Oprah's interview with Jackson accusers Wade Robson and James Safechuck is set to air Monday night on HBO after Part 2 of "Leaving Neverland."

Excerpts have already been released and, clearly, the content is pissing off MJ's most passionate followers.

In a clip from the interview, Oprah says "Leaving Neverland" transcends Michael and speaks to a larger societal issue regarding s-xual abuse.

She doesn't say whether she believes Robson and Safechuck -- both of whom have previously testified MJ never molested them.

The interview alone has still been enough to trigger this kind of Internet hate.

One user posted, "If karma is real after @Oprah is laid to rest, which I hope is many years from now, ppl will come out of the woodwork to lie on, betray and besmirch her name the way it is being done to Michael Jackson. And ppl she once let into her inner circle will lead the way."

Another tweet reads, "@Oprah you're disgusting... a cheap mercenary.. karma will punish you.. #MJInnocent @michaeljackson we will fight for you."

There's another clip Oprah released that actually asks a hard question of both Wade and James -- why did they keep associating with Michael if he had, in fact, abused them? On its face, the question shows Oprah's objectivity ... but that seems to be lost on rabid MJ fans.

Court Acquits Teacher Accused Of Stealing $110,267 From Ex-Governor’s Wife

An Ikeja Special Offences Court on Monday acquitted a teacher, Ebele Mbanugo, charged with stealing $110,267 from a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) belonging to Onari Duke, wife of a former governor of Cross-River State.

The police charged Mr Mbanugo, who was a Vice Principal at the American International School Lagos (AISL), with defrauding the Child Survival and Development Organisation of Nigeria, Mrs Duke’s NGO, of the funds between 2009 and 2011.

Delivering judgment, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo held that the prosecution failed to prove that Mrs Mbanugo stole the money.

The prosecution had accused the defendant of misappropriating the money raised for the purpose of purchasing mammogram machines for the detection of breast cancer.

She held that the criminal suit stemmed from a “serious and disruptive rivalry” between the defendant and Mrs Duke on the ownership of the fundraising initiative.

“The prosecution failed to prove that the money misappropriated belongs to Mrs Duke. Mrs Duke was not called to testify in this case.

“The testimony of the defendant showed how three mammogram machines were bought from General Electric for 133,000 dollars which is a sum higher than the sum allegedly misappropriated by the defendant.

“The prosecution failed to prove the source of the funds or that the defendant fraudulently converted it to her own use.

“The defendant had shown various brochures, pictures and documents highlighting her passion for fighting breast cancer as her mother and two aunts were diagnosed with the disease and she had said how early detection had saved her mother.

“It is unfortunate that such a laudable initiative could be marred by conflict between Mrs Duke and the defendant over ownership of the foundation,”

“The defendant is hereby discharged and acquitted and found not guilty of the three-count charge.”

Upon hearing the verdict, a visibly relieved Mrs Mbanugo burst into tears while profusely thanking the judge.

Snoop Dogg Says No Offense Meant! 'Slave Ship' Rant Was Heat Of The Moment

Snoop Dogg meant no disrespect to African-Americans when he said the struggling Lakersoughta go away on a "slave ship" -- but he did mean to vent about ALL of his favorite teams sucking.

Sources close to the D-O-Double-Gizzle tell TMZ ... the rapper's trash talking -- taken by many as racist -- was totally a heat of the moment thing.

They are told the rapper turned on his phone, and impulsively unloaded about his Lakers' embarrassing loss to the last-place Suns.

Snoop had said "Ship all them n***as out. Get a slave ship, and ship all them sorry mother f**kers the f**k outta here!"

Despite much of the public reaction to Snoop's rant, sources were clear ... the rapper doesn't have a single racist bone in his body, especially against his own race. But that was too expensive to say! Smh!!

Nigeria Overtakes Egypt As Largest Rice Producer

Nigeria has overtaken Egypt as the largest rice producer in Africa, Director-General,Africa Rice Center, Benin Republic, Dr Harold Roy-Macauley has said .

Roy-Macauley, told The Nation that Nigeria is now the largest rice producer at 4 million tonnes a year.

Egypt was producing 4.3 tonnes annually but production has reduction by almost 40 percent this year, attributed to the Egyptian government decision to limit cultivated to preserve water resources.

Egypt rice cultivation requires about 1.8 billion metres of water in evaporation, transpiration and irrigation each year.

Africa produces an average of 14.6 million tonnes of rough rice annually.

He said there were efforts to increase overall rice production in Africa but expressed doubts that it will curb rice importation as population has increased across the continent.

Travis Scott Deletes His Instagram Page To PLEDGE LOYALTY To Kylie Jenner

This girls dey do jazz! *crying* lolllllll… Nothing is going down in Travis Scott's DMs again! Travis deleted his Instagram purely to prove his devotion to Kylie Jenner after she found some suspect messages.

Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ ... Kylie found a number of what she deemed "overly friendly" DMs between him and several women with whom he'd been chatting. They are told she saw the messages as "evidence" to accuse him of cheating.

Travis maintains the DMs didn't amount to anything more than innocent flirting, and he didn't act on anything. However, he decided the best way to prove his commitment to Kylie and Stormi ... was to just get rid of Instagram.

That strategy seems to have staved off a full breakup, for now, as Kylie hasn't pulled the plug on their relationship -- despite being incredibly pissed when she first found the DMs last week.

PDP To Petition UN Over February 23rd Elections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to petition the United Nations (UN) and other global democratic institutions over the role the military played during the last presidential and legislative polls which it said led to killings in some parts of the country.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, made this known at the end of an expanded caucus meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Abuja.

He said the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, won the election but had his mandate “stolen.”

He also said the caucus resolved to support Mr Abubakar and the PDP in their resolve to contest the declaration of President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC as the winner of the election at the tribunal.

“Caucus commended Nigerians for refusing the harassment, intimidation and militarization of the electoral process and participating in the elections but noted that the mandate that was freely given to our candidate was stolen and as such the party and the candidate jointly resolved to go to the tribunal and to see it through to the end of what is permissible within our legal system to get back our mandate on behalf of Nigerians.

“Caucus further noted the role of the military in the February 23 elections and resolved that we will report the action of the military through a petition to the United Nations as well as other global democratic institutions on the role of our military in the February 23 elections.”

The party’s presidential candidate had rejected the result of the poll as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).

INEC had declared President Buhari as the winner of the election and returned him as duly elected.

Shock As Landlady Beats Tenant To Death In Lagos For Giving Her Child Food

A Yaba chief magistrate court in Lagos on Monday ordered that a 40-year-old landlady, accused of killing her tenant, be remanded in Ikoyi Prison, pending legal advice from the State Directorate of the Public Prosecution (DPP), NAN reports.

The woman, Yinka Martins, is charged with two counts of conspiracy and murder.

Chief Magistrate Oluwatoyin Oghere, who gave the order, adjourned the case until April 10.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Modupe Olaluwoye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 13, at 11.30 p.m. at No. 6, Odunsi St., Bariga, Lagos.

She alleged that the deceased, Mrs Mojisola Idayat, who was a tenant to the defendant, had given the landlady’s son, who was ill, some food to eat so that he could take his medication.

Olaluwoye said that the defendant later accused the deceased of giving her son leftover food to eat which resulted in an argument.

“My Lord, the defendant killed her tenant for giving her ill son food to eat. She beat the deceased to death with a plank, accusing her of giving her son leftover food. The defendant’s other tenants were present at the time of the incident and we intend to call them as our witnesses.”

Female Teacher Accused of Stealing Donald Duke's Wife Money Shed Tears As Court Frees Her

The wife of the former governor of Cross River State, Onari Duke, on Monday, lost her bid to send the former Vice-Principal of the American International School, Lagos, Ebele Mbanugo, to prison for allegedly stealing $110,267.57 from her non-governmental organisation.

The prosecutor, K. O. Sarumi, had accused Mbanugo of
defrauding Onari’s NGO, the Child Survival and Development Organisation of Nigeria, of the fund between September 2009 and October 2011.

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja acquitted and discharged Mbanugo of the three counts of stealing and fraudulent conversion that were preferred against her.

The prosecutor had alleged that the defendant misappropriated the money raised for the purpose of purchasing mammogram machines for the detection of breast cancer.

Mbanugo, however, during her testimony before the court, denied the allegations. She said that in 2009, she had established an NGO called the Run for Cure Africa Breast Cancer Foundation to raise funds to purchase mammogram machines.

She said she got acquainted with Onari because she taught her daughter at the AISL and had approached the former Cross River first lady to use her influence to help with fundraising for the foundation.

Mbanugo added that various Run for Cure Africa fundraising races were held on the premises of the AISL from 2009 to 2011, with dignitaries such as Onari; wife of the former governor of Lagos, Abimbola Fashola; and various consul-generals in attendance.

The former AISL vice principal had told the court that Onari had received a cheque of N7.4m from the funds raised.

She added that three mammogram machines bought were donated to the Calabar Women and Children’s Hospital, Lagos University Teaching Hospital and a branch of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

She, however, noted that a dispute arose between her and Onari over the ownership of the initiative, leading to the criminal suit filed in court against her.

Delivering judgment on Monday, Justice Taiwo held that the prosecution failed to prove that Mbanugo stole the money.

She noted that the criminal suit stemmed from a “serious and disruptive rivalry” between the defendant and Onari on the ownership of the fundraising initiative.

Justice Taiwo said, “The prosecution failed to prove that the money misappropriated belonged to Mrs Duke. Mrs Duke was not called to testify in this case.

“The testimony of the defendant showed how three mammogram machines were bought from General Electric for $133,000, which is a sum higher than the sum allegedly misappropriated by the defendant.
“The prosecution failed to prove the source of the funds or that the defendant fraudulently converted them to her own use.

“The defendant had shown various brochures, pictures and documents highlighting her passion for fighting breast cancer as her mother and two aunts were diagnosed with the disease and she had said how early detection saved her mother.

“It is unfortunate that such a laudable initiative could be marred by conflict between Mrs Duke and the defendant over the ownership of the foundation. The defendant is hereby acquitted and discharged.”

Upon hearing the court’s verdict, a visibly shaken Mbanugo burst into tears while thanking God.

Woman Gives Birth To Triplets After Losing Two Children To Kidnappers

More than two years after losing two children to suspected kidnappers, joy has returned to the family of Fatai and Suliat Azeez, who have welcomed a set of triplets at their home on Aiyepe Avenue in the Okokomaiko area of Lagos State.

A crowd of residents and well-wishers thronged the house, on Monday, to catch a glimpse of the babies.

The newborns, two girls and a boy, were given birth to on Thursday, February 28, 2019.

In November 2016, Suliat, who had a hairdressing workshop in the Okokomaiko area, had taken a new apprentice, who gave her name as Grace.

Grace, whose real name is Gladys Austin, had been asked to resume after promising to bring a guarantor the following day.

However, she was said to have tricked Suliat’s two children, Kafayat (six) and Farouk (four), and allegedly disappeared with them that same day.

Efforts by the family to locate the children had proved abortive.

However, in March 2017, the suspect was arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad for selling another child, identified as Oluwasemilore, to a ring of syndicates in Anambra, Abia and Enugu states.

Grace had been identified by Suliat and her neighbours during an identification parade by the police as the apprentice, who allegedly stole her children.

The suspect, however, denied abducting Suliat’s children, insisting that she did not know their whereabouts.

Frustrated, Suliat was said to have locked herself in the house and took a local insecticide, Sniper.

Despite being rescued, she attempted suicide a second time.

She was, however, resuscitated and taken to her village near Ibadan, Oyo State, for medical attention.

The woman, again, attempted suicide in her village but was rescued.

Suliat told Punch Metro that she spent seven months in the village to recover from the shock of the missing kids before returning to Lagos.

The 35-year-old, who spoke to a Punch correspondent while tending to one of the newborn babies, said her family went through hell during the period.

She said she burst into tears of joy when she was told that she had been delivered of the triplets.

Suliat stated, “When the two children were kidnapped, we went to the SARS in Ikeja many times without any result. We also reported at the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan. We did everything we were asked to do. The police later asked us to return that they had found the suspect; we also identified her. They kept pushing us back and forth. They collected N50,000 from my husband. Later, they said the case file was missing. We spent a lot of money.

“I thought it was all over for me. I thought that I had no reason to live again since the children, who should be my future, were no more.

“That was why I took Sniper. But because God said it was not over for me and my time to die had not come, I did not die.

“When I returned from the village in January, I was advised to go back to my shop to reduce my worry. But by the time I returned, the landlord started making trouble with me. He gave me quit notice and even beat me up.

“We were recovering from that when we got information that our landlord had sold the house we were staying and we had just renewed our rent. It appeared that we would be homeless until my husband got this small place we are now managing.

“As you can see, everywhere is empty. We have sold all our property, including land, during this period. But God decided to surprise me.”

Suliat said she did not know that she would be delivered of triplets until she got to the labour room.

She added, “After I was delivered of the first child, we expected the placenta to come out. But I was told that it was another baby. And while we expected another placenta, they told me that it was another baby again. When the nurses announced that I had had three children, tears of joy rolled down my cheeks. My husband also started crying.

“I still have the hope that God will complete my joy by returning my lost children. I solicit the prayers of Nigerians that wherever my children may be, they will be found.”
