Photo: Ogun Landlord Attacks Neighbour, Blinds Him Over Security Dues

A landlord, Olushina Dairo, has lost the use of his eyes as a result of an alleged attack by a fellow landlord, Sulaimon Badmus, over unpaid security dues in the Araromi/Mupin community, Iyana Iyesi area of Ogun State.

Punch Metro gathered that Olushina was part of the team that was mobilised to collect security dues from residents.

It was learnt that Badmus allegedly attacked Olushina by using a manual digger to hit him on the head while he was going from house to house to collect the dues.

The Chairman, Araromi Community Development Association, Fatai Hamidu, said Olushina was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital and was subsequently transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.

Hamidu stated, “The issue stemmed from a communal crisis. The former chairman was impeached over alleged misappropriation of funds and this led to the division of the association into two factions. Olushina is with our faction, while the other man, who used the digger to hit him, is one of our executive members, but we did not know that he was working for the other faction.

“On the day of the incident, we were moving from house to house to collect security dues. We had not got to the front of Badmus’ house when we suddenly heard a loud cry and people shouting that someone had been killed.

“I saw that Olushina was already on the floor in a pool of his own blood. We rushed him to the nearest hospital and he was subsequently transferred to LASUTH, but he is not getting any better; he can’t see with his eyes. The first operation has been done and the doctors say another operation will be performed on him in six months.

Olushina’s wife, Deborah, who said she was not at home when the incident happened, alleged that the action of her husband’s attacker was deliberate.

The mother of three said, “I was not at home on the day of the incident. On my way back home, I heard people shouting for help. When I got home, I did not meet my children and by the time I got to where the incident took place, I saw my husband on the floor.

“I was told that someone on the street, known as ‘Onicandle’, hit my husband with a digger. They said the landlords were having a meeting and Badmus just brought out a digger to hit him and since then, we have been battling to save his life.

“We recently just moved to the area. Before we moved in, we learnt that the former chairman was impeached for alleged misappropriation of funds. We learnt that the community wanted to get electricity from a company and the former chairman was allegedly collecting money but did not do anything.

“The man who attacked my husband with the digger is one of the followers of the former chairman.

The whole incident was a conspiracy and a deliberate act, because the former chairman and his gang had threatened to foment trouble so that they could have the seat back.”

The Ogun State indigene said the culprit failed to attend to the medical bills of her husband until the police came to visit Olushina at the hospital, adding that her husband needed all the help he could get to make him see again.

Deborah said, “When the incident happened, instead of the culprit and his cohorts to rally around and show concern for my husband, they hired a lawyer to bail the attacker after he was arrested by the police.

“An initial operation was carried out on my husband’s head costing N600,000. The police came to visit my husband at the hospital on the day the first operation was performed and when they saw the extent of the damage done, the case was transferred from the Ota Police Station to the state Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

“My husband is to undergo another surgery in six months’ time. The community was able to support but my husband has not been able to use his eyes. He needs all the assistance he can get to make him see again.”

Punch Metro gathered that Badmus was charged to the Ota Magistrates’ Court and remanded in the Ibara Prison, Abeokuta, while the case was adjourned till April 5, 2019.

Evil! Mom Drowns 3-Year Old Beautiful Daughter After Husband Divorced Her

A housewife who feared her husband was having an affair at work drowned their three-year-old daughter in a bath of water and then gave herself a massive overdose of insulin, a jury was told.

Claire Colebourn researched painless suicide and drowning methods on the internet just a short while before murdering her child at the family home, a court heard on Thursday.

The 35-year-old mother appeared before a High Court judge as a prosecutor Kerry Maylin opened the case involving the murder of Bethan.

The court heard that Colebourn had endured a painful divorce from her company director husband Michael Colebourn after she became convinced he was having an affair with a woman named Kelly, a financial director at their company, Ms Justice Johannah Cutts heard.

In the weeks following their separation in September 2017, the mother sent emotionally charged emails to Mr Colebourn's work colleagues and over Facebook, accusing him of cheating and controlling the family's finances.

Ms Maylin told the jury that on October 10 Mrs Colebourn had a new IT system installed in her home, following her husband's departure, after she became paranoid he was continuing to snoop and monitor her through the previous set up.

The jury was told that inn the week approaching her daughter's death she began to Google increasingly disturbing and morbid websites, while her daughter remained at pre-school, the prosecutor said.

Mrs Colebourn sobbed in the dock as the prosecutor listed websites such as 'How to kill by suicide', 'What is the least painful way to commit suicide?', and 'Lost all hope.'

Ms Maylin told the court how she was Google searching for dating websites, relationship counselling and her previous husband on the day before her daughter's death.

Shortly before her daughter's death Colebourn was searching for euthanasia, the jury heard and on October 15, just days before her death, three-year-old Bethan enjoyed a day out with her father, having lunch together and kissing and hugging goodbye.

For Mr Colebourn, it would be the last time he saw his daughter alive, Ms Maylin said.

The jury of six men and six women at Winchester Crown Court heard that a post mortem examination later appeared to confirm the cause of Bethan's death as drowning by submersion in water.

The trial continues.

Lagos: Man Stabs Friend To Death Over Who Wore The Most Expensive Wristwatch

A suspected member of the Eiye Confraternity is alleged to have stabbed his friend and fellow cultist to death after a heated argument over whose wristwatch is most expensive.

It was learnt that the friends were having a good time at the Lukham Crown Hotel, Oke-Eletu, Ijede, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, when they engaged in the argument.

A resident of the area, who identified himself simply as Kunle, alleged that the duo, besides being members of the same cult group, were also Internet fraudsters.

He added that in the heat of the argument, one of them brought out a pair of scissors and stabbed the other in the abdomen.

He added that efforts by onlookers and customers of the hotel to save him proved futile.

According to him, the incident, which occurred on the eve of the presidential and National Assembly elections, attracted bystanders and other members of the cult group, who beat up the one who stabbed his friend.

Kunle added that before the police could get to the scene of the incident, the man had been beaten to the extent that he could hardly walk as a result of the injuries the mob inflicted on him.

Real Reason I’m Suing Tiwa Savage- Danny Young

Danny Young has disclosed the real reason he is suing Tiwa Savage for N200m over the theft of a line in his 2009 hit single. According to Danny Young, after he released a video recording himself showing how displeased he is about the alleged theft, both Tiwa and Mavin records boss are yet to contact him. He says, it’s one of the reasons, they must pay and as a matter of fact, copyright issues must be taken seriously in Nigeria.

Anxious to correct the impression that by suing Savage for a whopping sum of N200m, he was probably eyeing her money, Danny, in an interview with a Punch correspondent said his decision was really driven by a need to compel people to do the right thing, not money.

The rapper said, “I wish that Nigerians would stop treating this issue of copyright violation with levity.  A lot of people don’t understand how this thing works. They don’t even know the value of their copyright. It is no fault of theirs, though. It is because many artistes have been infringing other people’s copyright. Now everybody thinks it is a normal thing to do in Nigeria.  Some people even think it is wrong to complain.”

Danny told Punch that what pained him was the fact that neither Tiwa Savage nor Mavin Records made any effort to discuss with him on the issue.

“I reached out to them through my lawyer. When I found that Tiwa had infringed my copyright, the first thing I did was to make a video in which I expressed my displeasure with what she did. I had to do this because she gave somebody else the credit for my own song. I don’t want to mention the person’s name because I have no business with him.

“All she needed to do was simply reach out to me and apologise for her action because I am the originator of that content. But she didn’t. She ignored me and made it seem as if I was talking nonsense. I felt really bad about it,” he said.

Danny Young claimed that Tiwa Savage infringed his copyright to Oju ti tiwon, one of his hit songs released in 2009. “It was one of the biggest songs in that year,” he added.

More Trouble For PDP’s Kashamu As Party Big Wings Pitch Tents With Other Candidates

Oh dear! There’s more trouble for Buruji Kashamu now as even his own party members – the real big wings don’t want him to attain the State’s first seat.

Oladipo Adebutu and Kashamu have both been fighting for who would represent PDP at the governorship polls come Saturday and twice, the court of law declared Kashamu the right candidate. Now Adebutu, who is ofcus a big wing in PDP has openly declared his support for APM’s Adekunle Akinlade, who is Amosun’s candidate. Only yesterday too, another top big wing in PDP in the state, Gbenga Daniel declared support for APC’s Dapo Abiodun.

Why is this so? Will PDP suspend them for anti-party activists? Why is there so much political trouble in both Ogun APC and PDP, both leading parties in the state? Well, it’s getting clearer Kashamu might be going nowhere.

Man Secretly Films Sister Then Posts All The Photos On S*x Website

A gym worker secretly took naked photos of his own sister before uploading them to a sleazy Russian photo sharing website, police say. Michael Koch, 26, reportedly targeted his sibling at their home, and did the same to other women as they used sunbeds at the St Peters Club Fitness in O’Fallon, Missouri. His alleged crimes, said to have taken place between May 2016 and November 2017, saw Koch charged with two felony and one misdemeanor counts of invading privacy Tuesday.

Other photos uploaded to the site included snaps of Koch’s girlfriend having sex with him, the St Louis Post-Dispatch said. The woman reportedly told police that she was unaware that the photos had been taken or posted online.

Koch’s alleged creepiness is said to have come to light after Russian officials alerted the US Department of Homeland Security to 175 photos Koch had submitted to the website, Fox2 reported.

No INEC Certificate For Those Declared Winner Under Duress

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will not issue certificates of return to any candidate in the elections that was declared winner of an election under duress.

INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, made this known during a meeting with the inter-agency consultative committee on election security held in Abuja on Thursday.

There was widespread intimidation and harassment of INEC staff in the last elections.

In Imo, for instance, Francis Ibeawuchi, INEC returning officer for the Imo west senatorial election, said he was “forced” to announce Rochas Okorocha, Imo state governor, as winner of the poll.

Yakubu said the commission will not tolerate the intimidation of its staff during Saturday’s elections.

“I am confident that working together with the security agencies, we will consolidate on the largely peaceful conduct of the presidential and national assembly elections while also taking decisive steps to deal with the minority of violators intent on disrupting the conduct of peaceful elections,” he said.

“However, the commission will not tolerate the act of holding our officials hostage and forcing them to declare winners under duress. Where such occurs, the commission will not reward bad behaviour by issuing them certificates of return.”

‘Measures in place to ensure polls open at 8am’
The INEC chairman added that the commission had put necessary measures in place to ensure voting starts at the scheduled time of 8am.

He said materials for the election have been delivered to all states and the FCT and movement to the local government areas to be completed before Friday.

“By tomorrow, all materials and relevant personnel will arrive at the Registration Area Centres (RACs),” he said, adding: “With this arrangement, we are confident that all polling units will open at 8am nationwide.”

The governorship election will hold in 29 states while 991 members of houses of assembly in all the states will be elected alongside six local government chairmen and 62 councillors in the FCT.

How Former CBN Governor, Wife Bought N15.6bn Property In UK

Paul Ogwuma, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and his wife have acquired property worth £33m (N15.6 billion), a UK investigative journalism magazine has revealed.

According to the magazine, Private Eye, Ogwuma, who served as CBN governor for six years has “amassed a £33m British property empire”.

In its report titled “Abuja on Thames” the paper said it “has identified a network of 15 British companies owned or controlled by Anna Ogwuma,” wife of the ex-governor, adding that her husband “looted his country under 1990s military dictatorship”.

“Paul Ogwuma, 86, was governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria during the brutal and kleptocratic rule of General Sani Abacha, when the bank was the latter’s personal piggy-bank. Some estimates suggest looting under Abacha ran to billions of dollars,” the report read.

“Under his successor for one year, retired general Abdulsalami Abubakar, Ogwuma oversaw a depletion in Nigeria’s foreign currency reserves of around $3bn, or 40%”.

“Between 2002 and 2017, her companies were used for 20 separate property purchases. They ranged from commercial sites in the north of England to luxury apartments in west London.

“Among them are townhouses in Kensington and Paddington, a couple of apartments in Mayfair, and premises in Bishop’s Stortford town centre that currently house a branch of Greggs.”

The report added that “although the Abacha era and its excesses are receding into history, banks that were often complicit at the time might be expected to know some of this history.

“Yet Mrs Ogwuma’s most valuable properties were either bought or remortgaged with loans from Barclays Bank (which handled $170m of Abacha’s ill-gotten wealth) and Lloyds Bank in the years after 2015.

“While times have moved on, so has the law on money laundering, and Mrs Ogwuma’s lavish property buying should have prompted questions about the origin of her money. The looting of Africa has a long legacy on the streets of Britain”.

Ogwuma served as the managing director/CEO of Union Bank of Nigeria prior to his appointment as the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria in September, 1993.

More Than A Dozen Charged For Sharing Footage Of Morocco Backpackers Beheading

A total of 14 people have been charged for allegedly sharing videos of sick footage showing a female backpacker beheaded in Morocco. The mutilated bodies of Louisa Vesterager Jespersen, 24, from Denmark, and Maren Ueland, 28, from Norway, were found in the Atlas Mountains south of Marrakesh on December 17, 2018. They were stabbed, had their throats slit and then beheaded.

Harrowing footage of one of the brutal killings started to circulate online. Danish police have investigated 118 reports, according to TV2 – a Danish national broadcaster – and have charged 14 people for sharing the horrific footage via Facebook Messenger and other social media platforms. Officers received more than 400 tip offs during the investigation. Six of the 14 charged are under the age of 18, while 12 people have been charged with unauthorised disclosure of the video under ‘especially aggravating’ circumstances.

The other two have been charged with ‘apologising for terrorism’. A police statement read: ‘The 14 charges highlight the seriousness of sharing the murder video from Morocco.

‘But it’s not just punishable, it’s also offensive to both victims and relatives, and it can be a profound and deeply unpleasant experience for both children, young people and adults to see it.’ Louisa and Maren had been on a trekking holiday together. The two women’s bodies were found by a hiker from France on a route to Toubkal, North Africa’s highest peak.

Photos: First Cousins Get Married In US

A pair of first-cousins who fell head-over-heels in love traveled hundreds of miles from Utah to Colorado to get married. Michael Lee and his close relative Angie Lee traveled from their home in Eagle Mountain, Utah to Colorado tie the knot on Monday. Their home state only allows cousins over the age of 65 to get married, but makes an exception for couples aged 55 if they can prove they are infertile.

Those rules are aimed at limiting the chances of children being born to first cousin parents with genetic abnormalities. First cousins share 12.5 per cent of their DNA, making them up to twice as likely to have a disabled child as a man and woman who aren’t closely related.

Michael and Angie finally got together last winter after 10 years apart, and say they are no longer worried about disapproval from their families. Angie told ABC4: ‘We said OK this is crazy but we’re adults now, we’re single now, we’re just going to go for it and who cares what our family thinks.’ They are now petitioning for Utah to change its ‘antiquated’ laws so that other first-cousin couples can tie the knot. Those same rules mean their marriage is not considered valid in Utah.

Recalling how he first realized his love for Angie when they were kids, he said: ‘We were second grade. ‘I remembered I stopped her mother and said “I’m going to marry Angie.” ‘She said, “No, sorry you can’t, you can be friends.’ He added: ‘I’ve always felt that life wasn’t fair. ‘Why did the person I wanted to be with most, and who I had the most attraction to the most, the most natural feelings for, why’d you have to be my cousin?’ He continued: ‘No one I’ve ever been with will make me feel as perfect as she does. Her being my cousin and some of the responses is a small price to pay.

Queen Elizabeth Posts On Instagram For The First Time...

Social media has a new influencer: Britain's Queen Elizabeth II.

The Queen published her first post on Instagram on Thursday during a visit to London's Science Museum -- 43 years after she sent her first email.

Rather than opting for the always-popular selfie as her inaugural update, she shared a letter sent by 19th-century mathematician and computer pioneer Charles Babbage to Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert.

"Today, as I visit the Science Museum I was interested to discover a letter from the Royal Archives, written in 1843 to my great-great-grandfather Prince Albert," she wrote in the post on the official @TheRoyalFamily account, using a touch screen iPad at the museum to send the message.

"Today, I had the pleasure of learning about children's computer coding initiatives and it seems fitting to me that I publish this Instagram post, at the Science Museum which has long championed technology, innovation and inspired the next generation of inventors," she added to the account's 4.6 million followers.

She signed the post "Elizabeth R."

Kylie Jenner: A Role Model Or Just Selfie Obsessed?

The youngest self-made billionaire of all time was the model of modesty when news of her achievement broke this week.

But the reality TV star turned make-up magnate made it all sound sooooo easy ...

“I popped up at a few stores, I did my usual social media – I did what I usually do, and it just worked,” she sighed.

“But it’s a nice pat on the back.”

Kylie’s fans, including the 128.5 million Instagram followers and 26.7 million on Twitter , were far more effusive.

“What a role model! Now the rest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan will be keeping up with little sister Kylie.”

But not everyone was hailing the billion-dollar baby as a business icon.

Kylie found fame on the back – and backside – of her elder sister, Kim, in the hit reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians, which began in 2007 when Kylie just nine years old.

Then she built her $900million – £683million – cosmetics business through narcissistic and over-sexualised social media posts featuring a perfect pout secretly created by lip-fillers.

A pout many impressionable youngsters tried to recreate by sucking on shot glasses, ending up bruised and hurt by the Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge.

So is it any wonder many parents fear Kylie’s record-breaking wealth will reinforce the message being sold to youngsters alongside those £22 lip kits – that success is measured in physical attractiveness and social media fame.

Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan, 53, was one of the first to express concern. “Self-made billionaire?” he scoffed.

“If Kim Kardashian hadn’t made a s-x tape – which got leaked – and then built a whole billion-dollar family franchise out of it, none of them would ever have been heard of.

“We don’t want young girls thinking the way to get on is to be a Kardashian, because that’s madness.
“Especially with International Women’s Day coming up, is this what we’re celebrating?”

The Loose Women panellist Janet Street-Porter, 72, also piled in calling Kylie “a shocking role model to young girls” and asking: “What has she brought to the modern world and what will she be remembered by?

“A lot of lipstick and big lips, and a lot of containers which may or may not be biodegradable. What is the impact on the environment?

“Anyone who, at 17, puts lip fillers in, then sells lip products put on artificially filled lips… it’s not a value based on something I’m comfortable with.”

But fellow panellist Coleen Nolan, 53, disagreed: “She’s worked having a famous family to her favour – that’s a good business brand.

“Some people would take the money and sit on a yacht all day, but she has turned it into her own business.” Many female celebrities are increasingly concerned at the influence of the image-obsessed Kardashian-Jenners.

Stop Okorocha From Rigging Or Else... - Imo APC Candidate

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma has appealed to security agents to ensure that the votes of Imo people counts, alleging that governor Rochas Okorocha has perfected plans to unleash mayhem on APC members during the exercise.

According to him, “the governor has imported thugs across the 27 Local Government Areas of the state while he has also armed members of the Imo State Security out fit.

"He has been spending the resources of the state to rig in his son in-law Uche Nwosu, wasting the resources of Imo people due to his selfish desire to plant his son-law as governor."

Uzodinma stated this when 53 different groups including the Kowa Party, Market women across the 27 Local Government areas of the state endorsed him for governor.

He said: “While we have been busy campaigning across the nook and cranny of the state, Okorocha who is now suffering from gonorrhea of the mouth is threatening every body that he will use thugs to chase us away. That he will not allow our people to come and vote because they will vote against Uche Nwosu.

“I am proud that I delivered my polling unit, ward and Local Government to President Buhari. But Rochas son in-law Uche Nwosu who boasted that himself and his boss will give the President one million votes lost his unit, ward and Local Government to PDP.

“His boss Okorocha was battling to win senatorial election and you saw how it went. He is also planning to rig again but we are waiting for him. And I am glad that people are joining us without conditions. The election of Saturday is between Imo people and Rochas Okorocha. APC is the ruling party and we must retain the state for the party.

“Okorocha should stop using the money of Imo people to blackmail them. He should use the money to pay salaries, pensioners and build hospitals. The governor is busy camping thugs every where but I can tell you one with God is majority. But on Saturday he will know that Imo people are ready.

“You cannot continue to fool people. The violence sponsored by the governor will never happen again. He claimed he was supporting Buhari but in the field his boys were destroying APC votes and he claimed he is supporting the President. He is a deceit but we will expose him,” he declared.

Continuing he said, “we are begging Okorocha to allow the people of Imo to select who will be their governor. I urge security agencies to cut the excesses of the governor else he will throw this state into chaos due to his ambition because we will not fold our arms and allow Okorocha steal our votes.

“When a governor starts acting like a rascal it is going to create crisis. We are ready to cast our votes and we are not afraid of any body. We urge security agencies to be alert. We are not worried because I am going to win. We are glad that we have Federal Government forces that will provide security, so Okorocha’s thugs cannot be stronger than our security agencies. So our people should go out and cast their votes and we will protect the votes,” he assured.

DAILY INSPIRATION FOR POSITIVE LIVING

Nigerian Woman Kills Her Husband By Setting Him Ablaze

Amina Dauda, a housewife accused of killing her husband, Mohammed Matazu, a former reporter with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Kaduna, by setting him ablaze, will know her fate on May 30.

Amina, 28, was arraigned before Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf, on
May 22, 2013, on three counts bordering on culpable homicide, punishable with death. The judge fixed the date after adoption of written addresses by Mr Abubakar Musa, prosecuting counsel and defendant counsel, Mr Charles Yoila.

Musa had urged the court to go ahead and convict the defendant, adding that the five witnesses brought by the prosecution produced evidence that pointed at the defendant’s commission of the offence.

“The act of fighting which the defendant engaged in that led to the commission of the offence was unlawful” he said.

Responding, Yoila urged the court to discharge the defendant of the allegation against her.
NAN reports that the prosecutor alleged that Amina sprayed Matazu with petrol in their residence at Gwarinpa, Abuja, on Feb. 7, 2013.

On April 8, 2014 during trial, a prosecution witness, Usman Idoko, told  the court that the late journalist was taken to three hospitals before he died from injuries sustained from the fire.

Idoko said the deceased, also a legislative aide to Sen. Mohammed Ibrahim (PDP-Kaduna), was taken to the hospitals by neighbours who were at the crime scene.

Pete Edochie, Nollywood Legend Turns 72... This Is His Story

Born on this day in 1947, Chief Pete Edochie is a veteran Nollywood actor who is undoubtedly one of Nigeria’s living legends as far as the entertainment industry is concerned.

The screen star of Igbo descent was born in Enugu, Enugu State, Nigeria but had his primary and secondary school education in Northern Nigeria in Kaduna state.

Following the completion of his formal education,
the multiple award-winning star worked at the Nigerian Railway Corporation. He later returned to his studies to pursue a course in Journalism and Television at the School of Journalism and Television in England.

His sojourn into the world of film began when he left the Eastern Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (ENBC). He joined the outfit in 1967 as a junior programmes assistant at the age of 20 but later rose to the level of a director. As the Director of programmes, he sometimes had to double as deputy managing director and occasionally as acting Managing Director.

He quit ENBC (at the time now known as Anambra Broadcasting Commission when Anambra and Imo states were created) because the government had decided to politicise the affairs of the station. His exit from radio found him fame in the world of entertainment, The Guardian reports.

Edochie who is a Catholic rose to prominence in the 1980s and thanks to his lead role as Okonkwo in an NTA adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s best-selling novel, “Things Fall Apart”, Edochie was honoured with an International Award. He was also interviewed by the British Broadcasting Commission (BBC) for his role in the film.

With several awards and accolades to his name, his journey to success is one that has seen him contribute immensely to the growth of Nigeria’s film industry. In 2003, he was honoured as a Member of the Order of the Niger by former president Olusegun Obasanjo. The Africa Film Academy has also honoured him with an Industry Merit Award by Africa Magic and Lifetime Achievement.

However, his career has not been totally scandal-free as in 2005, he alongside several other actors were placed on a one year ban by the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria. The actors were accused of collecting huge fees from producers due to their A-list celebrity status. The ban placed on these actors was seen as doom in the Nigerian film business, but currently, the actors are back in filming. The other Nollywood stars affected include Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Nkem Owoh, Ramsey Noah, Stella Damasus Aboderin, and Richard Mofe Damijo.

Also, on August 16, 2009, Edochie was kidnapped but later released unharmed by his captors on August 17, 2009.

In September 2017, Edochie endorsed Wikimedia movement in Nigeria by appearing in a video to increase awareness and use of Wikipedia among the older generations.

In 2013, a 24-year-old Kenyan man, Ephy Saint alleged that he is Edochie’s lovechild as told to him by his (Saint’s) mother. Edochie was quick to dispel the rumour stating emphatically that not only has he never been to Kenya but he is not a wayward person.

Edochie has starred in over 70 films in his career such as “Igodo”, “Egg of Life”, Billionaire Club, and more recently, Nnaji’s hit film, “Lionheart”.

The veteran star is known for his signature beard, which he started grooming at the age of 23 and he has said he will never shave. Not only that, his witty use of African proverbs (especially Igbo proverbs) has endeared him to many of his fans and also become the inspiration for many online memes.

Edochie married at the age of 22 to his beautiful wife, Josephine and they are blessed with six children of which two Yul and Linc Edochie are both Nollywood actors as well. He is blessed with several grandchildren and till date is still very much active in acting and filming.

Court Upholds Dapo Abiodun As Ogun APC Governorship Candidate

A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court on Thursday upheld the candidacy of Mr Adedapo Abiodun as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State.

Justice Olukayode Adeniyi dismissed the suit brought by an APC member, AbdulRafiu Baruwa, ahead of Saturday’s governorship and house of assembly elections in the state.

In the suit, Baruwa had prayed the court to disqualify the APC candidate on the ground that he provided false information to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in his Form CF 001.

He also sought that Abiodun be disqualified from the governorship race for alleged concealment and deliberate refusal to supply details of his educational qualifications to INEC as require by law, so as to escape punishment for infringement on the law.

Specifically, the plaintiff claimed that the APC candidate claimed in the 2015 senatorial election form for Ogun East to have graduated from the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, but in the 2019 governorship form, the candidate was said to have claimed to possess only secondary school education.

He asserted that Abiodun deliberately concealed his university education because of his alleged non-participation in the mandatory National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) for Nigerians who are 30 years and below as at the time of graduation.

Baruwa insisted that wilful concealment or refusal to disclose detail of educational background amounted to false information and applied for an order of the court to disqualify the APC candidate.

He also sought another order of the court to replace Abiodun with one Jimi Lawal who was said to have come second in the primary election conducted by the party for the nomination of governorship candidate in Ogun State.

In his judgment, Justice Adeniyi, however, held that Section 177 of the 1999 Constitution cannot be invoked to disqualify the APC candidate because participation in the NYSC scheme was not a condition for qualification for governorship election.

He also held that the failure to include university education in the Form CF 001 submitted to INEC by Abiodun cannot be used to nullify his nomination.
