Court Sentences Shonde To Death For Killing Wife

The Lagos State High Court on Friday sentenced Lekan Shonde to death by hanging for killing his wife, Ronke.

Lekan Shonde, a depot worker in the Apapa area of Lagos State, was found guilty of the murder of his wife.

It had been reported that 51-year-old Lekan allegedly beat his wife to death at their home in the Egbeda-Idimu area of Lagos State.

He was alleged to have locked the door on the corpse and their two children before the incident was discovered by a housekeeper and later reported to the police.


The marriage, which was blessed with two children, aged six and four, was said to have been marred with domestic violence.

He accused Ronke of sleeping with one Kayode, the general manager of a publishing company.

Delivering the judgement on Friday, Justice Josephine Oyefeso sentenced Lekan to death based on the conviction that the convict killed his wife, Ronke.

Akpabio Withdraws Case Challenging Election Defeat

Former Senate minority leader, Godswill Akpabio, has withdrawn a case he filed in court challenging his Senate reelection loss.

Mr Akpabio’s lawyer, Sunday Ameh, announced the withdrawal in court in Abuja on Friday. He did not give reasons for his decision.

Mr Akpabio filed the case despite Nigeria’s legal provision that Senatorial election disputes should be decided in the first instance by an election tribunal. Lawyers say conventional courts lack jurisdiction to hear such cases.

Regardless, the judge of the Federal Capital Territory High Court granted Mr Akpabio’s request to restrain parties involved in the case.

Finnish PM Sipila Resigns Over Failed Reforms

Finnish Prime Minister Juha Sipila tendered his center-right government’s resignation on Friday after it failed to push it through a social and health care reform package, the president’s office announced.

“The prime minister will tender the government’s resignation at 10:00 am (0800 GMT) today,” the president’s office said in an announcement made just five weeks ahead of legislative elections scheduled for April 14.

Trump’s Ex-Campaign Manager Paul Manafort Sentenced To 47 Months In Prison

US President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort was sentenced to 47 months in prison on February 7, 2019.

The 69-year-old received the sentence after being convicted on financial fraud charges.
Manafort was convicted last August on eight charges of tax evasion and bank fraud.

Manafort was given the stiffest sentence so far to associates of Trump caught up in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian election meddling in the 2016 US presidential election. But the jail term Manafort received was lighter than many had expected.

Mueller had called for 19 to 24 years in prison, a range the judge called “excessive” as he handed down his ruling. Manafort still faces sentencing in a second case related to illegal lobbying charges to which he has pleaded guilty. The maximum penalty for those charges is 10 years in jail.

Buhari Arrives Daura Ahead Of Saturday’s Election

President Muhammadu Buhari arrived his home town of Daura yesterday ahead of the Governorship and State Assembly elections scheduled for Saturday.

The president landed at the Daura Helipad in a Presidential Chopper marked NAF-541 at 6:50 p.m. in company with his aides and close family members.

The president was received by the Emir of Daura, Farouk Umar, his kinsmen, and hundreds of well-wishers.

It was also gathered that, the wife of the President, will host a thanksgiving dinner for women and youth organisations in Daura.

Election: PDP Senatorial Candidate’s Aide Shot

Two men on a motorbike, on Thursday, shot at Nnamdi Nsorom, an aide to the Imo West Senatorial Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 23 presidential and National Assembly election, Jones Onyereri.

This is just as the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has deployed additional five Commissioners of Police to the state to curtail violence ahead of the governorship election on Saturday.

The newly deployed police commissioners are to join the police commissioner, Dazuki Galadanchi.


Mr Nsorom, who is currently in critical condition at the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, was at the gate to his boss’ house located behind Concord Hotel in the state capital, when the gunmen reportedly sprayed bullets at the gate, which hit him on the chest and arm.

Mr Onyereri was Governor Rochas Okorocha’s major opponent during the senatorial election on February 23, and has vowed to reclaim what he described as his stolen mandate.

Breaking: Supreme Court Upholds FG’s Seizure Of Patience Jonathan’s $8.4m

The Supreme Court has upheld the order of temporary forfeiture made by a Federal High Court in Lagos in respect of the $8.4million traced by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to former First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan.

In a judgment this morning (Friday), a five-man panel of the court unanimously held that the appeal filed by Mrs. Jonathan, challenging the interim forfeiture, was without merit.

The court ordered Mrs. Jonathan to go before the Federal High Court to justify her ownership of the money to prevent its permanent forfeiture to the Federal Government.

Photo: Nigerian Footballer Held For Forging Visa

A Nigerian footballer was arrested on Tuesday from Anandapur for allegedly using fake visa to stay in India, despite being deported approximately four years ago from the country. He was produced before the concerned court and was remanded to judicial custody.

According to police sources, the Nigerian footballer identified as Daniel Bidemi used to play football in Kolkata for several clubs.

He had played for some football clubs in other states as well. He was staying with his wife who hails from the state, at a rented flat in Madurdah, Anandapur.


Recently, Anandapur Police was informed by the Security Control Office (SCO) who had found Bidemi staying in Kolkata. Immediately, police raided his flat and arrested him. Later, police found that he had forged the visa to enter India. Bidemi had been deported through Indira Gandhi International Airport during 2015.

Sources informed that Bidemi had a live-in relationship with a young woman before he was deported. Recently, he came back and married the same woman. Sleuths suspect that he had married the woman to stay in India, specifically Kolkata, for some unknown reason.

Previously, several Nigerian footballers were found to have connection with drug peddling in the city. Sleuths are trying to ascertain whether Bidemi is connected to any such racket or not. He has been booked under sections of forgery mentioned in the IPC and Foreigners Act.

Okay y'all must have seen me post one or two things about my boy, Rocky. The incident happened on the 7th of February, I just got back from work when I heard him scream so loud. I rushed out and saw him crying and holding his right hand. We all thought something had cut his hand maybe while he was playing with the cup he was using to drink water. We rushed him to a local Bone doctor close to the house. The man did his best to adjust the bone and asked us to wait till the wound heals then we can come to fix the bone properly. All these while we thought we were treating bone. Not until few days ago we decided to do a scan and we found out a stray bullet almost hit this boy somewhere else but instead of hitting somewhere else, it hit his hand. We just did a minor surgery yesterday and a bullet was taken out. It could only be God. God did this for us and we are forever grateful.

No matter how careful u think u are are if God does not have ur back, forget it!

Court Orders Arrest Of APC Governorship Candidate In Akwa Ibom

A Rivers State Chief Magistrate Court in Port Harcourt has issued an arrest warrant against Nsima Ekere, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State.

S.D. Andrew-Jaja, the chief magistrate of the court, said Ekere and one Katungo Moljengo should be arrested “in compliance with Section 138 of the Rivers State Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2015.”

The court's order, bearing the seal and signature of S.T. Dappa, Principal Registrar of the court, said the arrest warrant against  Ekere and Moljengo was issued “in Port Harcourt under the seal of the court and hand of the presiding chief magistrate, this 5th day of March 2019".

The magistrate said the warrant for the arrest of Ekeme and Moljengo was issued because of the listed complaints and a suit marked PMC/MISC/15/2019 by one Multi-intelligence Development Limited.

Couple Who Filmed Themselves R-ping Two Children Face DECADES In Jail

A married couple who filmed themselves raping two children face decades in jail for their horrific crimes.

Matthew and Diane Maynard, from North Carolina in the US, were arrested in January last year when the recordings came to light.

At first it was thought to be outsourced indecent footage of children but detectives soon realised the couple in the videos were the Maynards themselves.

The husband and wife - both 35 - used a phone to film the abuse and saved the clips on a Google Drive. The two victims were both under 13.


Matthew and Diane will each face between 33 and 47 years in jail, depending upon their behaviour while behind bars.

They admitted one count each of first degree exploitation of a minor and statutory r-pe of a child by an adult.
