INEC Cries Out: Akpabio’s Loyalists Unleash Mayhem On Us

Facts emerged on Sunday on how uniformed and plain-clothes security operatives loyal to the former Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, allegedly battered some INEC ad-hoc staff in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

A senior lecturer in the University of Uyo (name withheld), who is one of the collation officers in Essien Udim LGA, said he narrowly escaped being lynched when Akpabio and his thugs forcefully took over the activities at the collation centre at about 10pm on Saturday.

He said they were in the process of verification and collation when Akpabio stormed the venue with several uniformed and plain-clothes men.

He said the embattled senator had initially tried to plead with the ad-hoc staff to suspend the use of card reader and just accept the results when one of his loyalists identified as Nse Ntuen (a member of House of Assembly) emerged from nowhere and started molesting all the INEC officials over their uncooperative attitude.

The lecturer said, “Suddenly, Nse Ntuen emerged and picked up a plastic chair, murmuring that the electoral officers were not cooperating with them. I escaped by God’s grace because he was about smashing my head with that chair, when he suddenly saw another fat man with a Peoples Democratic Party tag and he unleashed the chair on him mercilessly.

“Ntuen also beat up the corps members as everyone tried scampering for safety. In that confusion, I dragged the returning officer who is also my colleague in the university, and is hypertensive, and we were able to escape. I got to Uyo at about 2am.”

At Polling Unit 9 in Ukana West, Ward 2 located in the premises of Independent High School, Ukana, Essien Udim LGA, where Senator Akpabio voted, journalists were refused access to the school.

Reacting, the Media Aide to Senator Akpabio, Anietie Ekong, claimed that the accusations were false.

How PDP Beat APC In Oyo, Akwa Ibom || APC Sweeps Lagos, Ogun... And Other Surprises

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday started the announcement of the results of governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections held in the country on Saturday.

The results released so far revealed some surprises and upsets across the country...
For instance, the ruling All Progressives Congress in Oyo State lost the governorship poll to the Peoples Democratic Party. The APC candidate, Adebayo Adelabu lost scandalously to his PDP’s counterpart, Seyi Makinde, with a margin of 157, 635 votes. While Makinde polled 515,621 votes, Adelabu came second with 357,982 votes.

Also, as it was during the February 23 presidential and National Assembly elections in Kwara State where the incumbent Senate President, Bukola Saraki, lost his bid to return to the Senate, his party lost all elective positions in the March 9 polls.

The Kwara State APC governorship candidate, Abdulrahman Abdulrazak, swept the poll to beat his PDP counterpart, Abdulrazak Atunwa, with a margin of 216,792 votes.

Also, the APC governorship candidate in Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, won a landslide victory over his closest rival, Jimi Agbaje of the PDP. Observers had expected Agbaje to give Sanwo-Olu a run for his money, but this was not to be as the political machinery of the national leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu that backed the new comer was too much for Agbaje.

The PDP candidate was beaten with over 500,000 votes.

But as the people of Rivers State were waiting for the outcome of the polls, INEC announced the suspension of the governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state till further notice. It cited violence that marred the exercise as reason for its actions.

Protest from the national headquarters of the PDP is, however, trailing the electoral umpire’s decision.

However, INEC had declared winners in some of the 29 states where the governorship poll was conducted on Saturday as of the time of filing this report this morning. These states include Lagos, Kwara, Gombe, Enugu, Oyo, Abia, Kebbi, Jigawa, Katsina , Ogun, Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi and Niger.

Other states where the results have not been fully released include Benue, Nasarawa, Sokoto.

But the results so far declared have stirred protest as opposition parties in some states rejected the outcome citing vote-buying, supporters’ harassment and alleged bias by the electoral umpire and the security agencies as reasons.

Sanwo-Olu is new Lagos governor
INEC on Sunday declared the APC candidate, Sanwo-Olu, as the winner of the March 9 governorship election held in the state on Saturday.

Declaring the result of the election at the state collation centre in Yaba at about 8.40pm on Sunday, the state Returning Officer, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, said Sanwo-Olu, scored the highest number of votes to win the election.

Amosun’s Candidate, Akinlade Rejects Ogun Governorship Election Results

The governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement in Ogun State, Adekunle Akinlade and the Director-General of the party, Sarafa Ishola, have rejected the results of the governorship election in the state.

Addressing journalists at the secretariat in Abeokuta, capital of the state, Ishola said the collation process was hijacked and compromised.

He alleged that top Federal Government officials went round some local government areas in the
state and made party agents to sign filled result sheets under duress.

Ishola also said the Independent National Electoral Commission had announced the results of the election, in spite of the APM’s request to suspend it and investigate the alleged infractions.

Claiming that the results announced by INEC did not reflect the wishes of the people, Ishola said,

“The exercise, which started on a peaceful note was disrupted by hoodlums and unidentified uniform men, who hijacked result sheets and went ahead to falsify the results in many local government areas, including, but not limited to Abeokuta South, Abeokuta North, Odeda, Ifo, Obafemi Owode and the local government areas in Ogun East Senatorial district.

“In some local government areas, such as Sagamu, the results were changed to deny the APM its well deserved victory. In other local government areas won by APC, the figures were altered to increase the margin between the APC and the APM.

“The disruptions were clearly designed to ensure that the APM did not meet the required constitutional requirement of 25 per cent votes in the LGAs that constitute Ogun East Senatorial district. They were also aimed at suppressing the electoral strength of the APM in Ogun Central Senatorial District.

“These infractions are against the provisions of the Constitution of Nigeria and the Electoral Act. I hereby, on behalf of the APM, formally reject the results of the collation process that was hijacked and compromised because it did not reflect the wishes of the people of Ogun State.

“The APM wishes to put INEC on notice that we shall explore all possible means within the provision of the constitution and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to challenge this miscarriage of justice.”

Akinlade said that party agents, who had copies of the collated results in the areas where the infractions occurred, observed that the results were altered.

Announce Rivers Results Now - PDP Reacts To INEC's Order

The Peoples Democratic Party has charged INEC to end its manipulative schemes and immediately declare the result of the March 9, 2019, governorship election as held in Rivers state.

The PDP rejects the decision by INEC to suspend the electoral process in the state, after results have been collated. The party said this is a premeditated plan by the APC-led Federal Government to use the instrument of INEC and security agencies to truncate the wishes of the Rivers people as already delivered at the polling units.

Our party contends that elections have been concluded in Rivers state; results of the Governorship and House of Assembly polls have been declared at the various polling units, wards and LGA collation centers and all returning officers & political parties conclusively have the figures.

It is therefore incumbent on INEC to declare the final results instead of deliberately creating openings for the subversion of the process; a development, which exposes the Commission’s complicity with the Buhari Presidency and the APC to enmesh the election into unnecessary crisis.

The PDP cautions INEC to note that a lot of innocent Nigerians have already been killed allegedly by APC thugs in its desperation to forcefully take over Rivers state. The commission should therefore save the state from more bloodletting by immediately declaring the results

President Buhari should immediately call security agencies (who have been annexed as departments of the APC) to end their siege to the electoral process. Any further delay is a recipe for escalation of crisis in our nation.
