INEC Omits Okorocha From Senators - Elect List

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released a comprehensive list of Senators-elect, following the February 23 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

In a statement from the electoral body on Monday, INEC announced that it would present certificates of return to those whose names are on the list on Thursday, March 14.

However, some names were omitted from the list which had a provision for 109 slots, with various remarks as to the reason for the omission.

Very notable among those who were omitted was Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, who won the election for Imo West Senatorial district.

According to INEC, the governor’s name was omitted over the allegation that the returning officer declared him the winner ‘under duress’.

See the full list of senators-elect below:

Meghan & Kate Exchange Warm Greeting As They Arrive For Commonwealth Day Service

It was a royal reunion for Kate and Meghan today as the two Duchesses attended the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey, and were seen greeting each other with a friendly kiss on both cheeks.

Kate and her pregnant sister-in-law, both 37, exchanged the warm greeting as they gathered at the entrance with other senior royals, awaiting the arrival of the Queen and Prince Charles.

It is the second joint engagement for the pair in under a week, coming just days after they attended a reception to mark the 50th anniversary of Prince Charles' investiture as Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace.

Meghan was among the first to arrive, and looked elegant in a bespoke all-white ensemble by Victoria Beckham, complete with a chain-print dress, coat, bag and shoes, believed to have cost £9,000.

Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cambridge looked very much the lady in red in a recycled Catherine Walker coat and matching dress, which she previously wore in New Zealand in 2014, and a Gina Foster hat.

The Returning Officer for the election, Shehu Iya, at about 3.50 a.m. Tuesday at the INEC office in Jalingo pronounced Mr Ishiaku, who is the incumbent governor, as the winner having satisfied the requirement of the law.

Mr Iya, a professor at the Modibo Adama University, Yola, announced that the PDP scored a total vote of 520, 433 while the All Progressives Congress (APC) recorded 362, 735 across the 16 LGAs.

Drake Drops Michael Jackson Track From Setlist Amid Leaving Neverland Child Abuse Claims

Drake has seemingly removed a track featuring Michael Jackson from his touring set-list.

The move comes just days after the documentary, Leaving Neverland, which centres on two men alleging Jackson sexually molested them as children, was broadcast on Channel 4.

Drake kicked off his Assassination Vacation Tour in Manchester last night , and decided not to play the song “Don’t Matter To Me”. The single features previously unheard Jackson vocals and was featured on the 2018 album Scorpion.

The US rapper previously played the song on the US leg of the same tour. He has not confirmed whether deciding not to play the song was a conscious move following the allegations of child abuse against Jackson.

PDP Alleges Fraud As INEC Declares Six States’ Governorship Poll Inconclusive

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday continued its declaration of results of the governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections conducted across the country on Saturday.

But for the first time since 1999 that the nation embraced democracy, INEC declared governorship poll in six states inconclusive. The states affected are Kano, Sokoto, Benue, Bauchi, Adamawa and Plateau.

While INEC has stopped the announcement of results in Rivers State due to the violence that engulfed the state, the commission has also controversially halted the announcement of the governorship election in Kano State which shows the Peoples Democratic Party is leading.

Consequently, the PDP has accused the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, of allegedly playing the script of the ruling All Progressives Congress by declaring governorship elections in these states inconclusive.

It claimed that the commission carried out the action in states where it (the PDP) was in clear lead.

The former ruling party insisted that INEC had become overtly partisan, surrendered its independence to the APC and carried on as “a compromised umpire with obnoxious impunity, thereby sending signals of being heavily bribed by the APC to alter results for its candidates.”

The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, who spoke at a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, insisted that the party was in possession of intelligence reports that INEC was being remotely controlled by the Presidency.

He said this was why the commission had refused to declare the full outcome of the governorship elections in some states.

He said, “The PDP has full intelligence of how INEC is acting on instructions from the Buhari Presidency and the APC in orchestrating unwholesome situations and declaring already concluded governorship elections in Sokoto, Adamawa, Bauchi, Plateau as well as other states as inconclusive, immediately it became obvious that the PDP was set to win.

PDP’s Ihedioha Wins Imo Governorship Election

A former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, has been declared winner of the governorship election in Imo State.

He polled 273,404 ahead of his closest rival and candidate of the Action Alliance, Uche Nwosu, who polled a total of 190,364.

Mr Nwosu is the son in-law of Governor Rochas Okorocha who strongly backed his candidacy.

The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Ifeanyi Ararume came third ahead of Hope Uzondima of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The former polled 114, 676 while the latter polled 96,458.

Dogara To INEC Chairman: "Will You Sit In Abuja and Watch This Brazen R*pe?"

Yakubu Dogara, House of Reps speaker, says the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to cancel the Tafawa Balewa area governorship election results in Bauchi state lacks substance and is a clear departure from the provision of the law.

Speaking in Bauchi, Dogara said it is absurd that the electoral body would order a cancellation of the results of an election that was “conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner”.

He said save for the issue of computation of the final results which was caused by the “carting away of the result sheet by agents of the sitting governor”, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the exercise was smooth.

“There was no problem at all in Tafawa Balewa. The only problem they had was the final collation. If that was the only problem, one will think that the worse decision that can be taken is for them to provide the relevant collation sheet to her (collation officer) and say go and complete the collation and bring it in the proper sheet. But in law, anybody who is a lawyer knows that the issue of form does not defeat the issue of substance,” he sad.

“Now, the substance is that there was a fair, free and credible election, which nobody is challenging. The only issue is that it wasn’t conveyed in the proper form and that can be cured and so, as it is, this election has been won and lost, no matter how you look at it and the PDP, Kauran Bauchi is, by the grace of God, the sitting governor-elect.

“As it is now, there is no problem, absolutely no problem with the votes from Tafawa Balewa. The chairman of INEC has told the world that elections begin and end at the unit. If they had cancelled any result at the level of unit collation or ward collation, it would have stood cancelled but for there to be peaceful elections, free and fair as attested to by the local government returning officer, Mrs Dominica Anosike, for there to be very peaceful, transparent collation of all the results across the eleven wards in Tafawa Balewa and the only challenge we had was that the Governor’s thugs and boys went and invaded the local government collation centre and carted away some result sheets.

“Thereafter, the returning officer who collated it on a separate paper, and then wrote a letter, an explanatory memoranda to the state returning officer and the Resident Electoral Commissioner to say that this was the situation in which they found themselves and that was why they had to use another result sheet to do the computation.”

Dogara said that the “thugs” who invaded the local government collation centre were “identified as agents of the governor when apprehended” yet the governor will still be made the beneficiary of the action by cancelling the result in his favour.

“If you look at it carefully, the thugs that invaded the collation centre in Tafawa Balewa are agents of the governor, the sitting governor of Bauchi State,” he said

“Their names were read out, it is not a rumour, they were apprehended by the army, including the vehicle they used for the operation and they have been handed over to the police.

“Now, if they were acting for a disclosed principal, which is the governor of Bauchi State, the point is that in the law of agency which we read and it hasn’t changed, the principal is responsible for the acts of his agents.

"So, if they were acting as agents of the sitting governor, will the governor now take benefit of the crimes committed by his agents? That is one big question that INEC must answer.

“Secondly, I want to say that the chairman of INEC is a citizen of Bauchi State, just like all of us and they say that charity begins at home. Will he therefore sit down in Abuja and watch or preside over this brazen rape of the mandate of Bauchi State? Will he sit down and sleep in peace when he sees that the decision of his own people here in Bauchi State is being upturned by agents of the agency over which he superintends? That is the question that Professor Mahmood Yakubu, my namesake, will have to answer and the people of Bauchi State are watching.

"We want to see whether he will cast his vote with the people of Bauchi State or with those who are seeking to oppress the people of Bauchi State.”

The Speaker also advised the governor to take the honourable path of conceding the election.

After Losing Oyo, APC Big Boys Fight: Adelabu Exchanges Blows With Ajimobi's PA

Bayo Adelabu, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, has been abusing some leaders of the party in the state, blaming them for his loss in the election.

Adelabu, who is said to be visibly angry, has been claiming that APC leaders collected money from him yet failed to deliver their various political constituencies.

According to SR, Dayo Iyaniwura, one of Adelabu’s main allies who is also a Personal Assistant to outgoing Governor Abiola Ajimobi, was caught in one of his many fits of rage at Ajimobi’s Oluyole residence on Sunday.

Two sources who witnessed the episode confirmed to Sahara Reporters that Adelabu had attacked the Governor’s PA during an argument, which resulted into an outbreak of fisticuffs between them.

One of the sources told SR that Adelabu rained unprintable and abusive words on Tegbe, who later showed up at Ajimobi’s residence as well. He specifically accused Tegbe of not supporting him, claiming Tegbe’s team worked against him during the campaign and that was why he lost.

SR understands that Adelabu did not reconcile with the candidates who were forced to step down for him at last year’s APC governorship primary, insisting that he had all it takes to win the election.

But he lost Saturday’s election to Seyi Makinde of the PDP, winning only five of the 33 local governments in the state while Makinde won all the rest, with a total of 515,621 votes.

Collation Of Results Is The Weak Link In This 2019 Elections, says Situation Room

Civil society Situation Room (SR) has declared that collation of results in Nigerian elections is the weakest point in the country’s electoral management and administration.

Clement Nwankwo, the convener of the Situation Room, disclosed this to journalists in the Group’s third interim statement on its observation of the governorship, state houses of assembly and FCT area council elections on Sunday at the Transcorp Hotel, Abuja.

He said, “In Rivers state, we have received numerous reports of security agencies interfering in the collation process, deliberate targeting of election and collation officers making their way to the state collation centre. One example is in Adoni LGA where EO was targeted...

In Ebonyi, ward collation was abandoned. The Imo state governor is also reported to have seized collation officials in Ideato south in an attempt to force announcement of favorable results.

“The exclusion of accredited election observers and party agents from accessing collation centers is reported in Delta, Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Zamfara.”

The SR has also called for an independent Inquiry into the conduct of the 2019 general elections.

“In the light of the serious shortcomings with the elections, Situation Room calls for an Independent Inquiry into the conduct of the 2019 general elections. This independent Inquiry should address amongst others issues; procurement, logistics management, role of the military and abuse of the process by INEC officials.

“This is urgently needed to identify challenges and recommendations towards repairing the damaged credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process.”

Situation Room while commending Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on significant improvement on logistics, the group urged the commission to take lead in pushing for reforms in the electoral process.

PDP Wins Majority Votes In Kano, INEC Says It's Inconclusive

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won the governorship election in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, the only local government that delayed the final announcement of governorship election result in the state.

The PDP now has 1,014,353 votes, while the APC polled 953,522. But it's not over...

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the state, Riskuwa Shehu, had ordered for fresh collation of results from the wards in Nasarawa local government after the local government collation centre was attacked and the main result sheet was torn.

However, only results from 10 out of the 11 local governments were collated before the process was disrupted. As a result, it is the result of the 10 local governments already collated that were regenerated at the state collation office.

The results from Gama ward was not included. INEC said they have to conduct election in Gama ward.
