Family Loses Five Members In Sunday's Ethiopian Airlines Crash

A week before Carol Karanja boarded the ill-fated Ethiopian Airlines flight that crashed Sunday on its way to Kenya, she sent a message to her sister, saying she had an uneasy feeling.

"My heart isn't really excited. I feel like there's something bad ahead, but I don't know what," the WhatsApp message read.

Karanja was traveling from Canada to Kenya with her three children and her mother. She was so worried about the trip, she sent a similar message expressing her fear of the impending journey to her father before she boarded the flight.

Thousands of miles away in Kenya, worried about her older sister's premonition, Kelly Karanja asked her the exact day she'd arrive and told her to pray about it.

"10th. Will let you know the time," Carol Karanja messaged.

Carol Karanja never made it to their Kenyan homeland. She was among the 157 people killed when the plane crashed just minutes after takeoff from Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa.  Also killed was her mother, Ann Wangui Karanja, and her three children: Ryan Njoroge, 7, Kellie Pauls, 4, and 9-month-old daughter, Rubi Pauls.

Rubi was born in Ontario, where the family lived. She was going home for the first time to meet her Kenyan family.

How I Almost Committed Suicide Eight Years Ago - Samuel Olatunji

Samuel Olatunji,  a Public Relations expert, popularly known has Big Sam has explained how he almost took his own life 8 years ago, when everything was down for him. According to Sam, he started a business, business didn't do well, he restrategized, still didn't work, got broke, couldn't pay salaries and it was like Heaven was closed against him. Today he is saying a different story and encouraging all to wait! There's a miracle by the corner.

Writing on Facebook he said;

''I Almost Committed Suicide

About eight years ago, I never used to get broke. The least I would have per time would be 100k (when Im broke). I moved to a bigger office and started to dream of conquering more territories. But life had other plans. Life started happening to me. All of a sudden, I started getting broke to the point of not having N1000. Business started dying, my so beautiful life began to witness the ugly side of it. I was flummoxed, scared, and tired.

I initially thought I got my planning wrong, I replanned, restrategize and read all the books I could.

Let me not forget the many days of fasting, I prayed. Perhaps I had sinned. I stayed away from sins and friends that could lead me into temptation. I worshipped and did all spiritual works, yet things were the same.

I started failing in meeting my basic obligations, started owing salary and was owing two banks. It was as if all elements of life combined to deal with me. Heaven was shut. I became lost. People that ought to understand became rumour mongers. I was down and out.

My life became a hot mess. I could not even pray anymore, my heavy heart couldn't put words together. Everything was static. I wanted peace yet chaos was all I had.

One Sunday morning as I was preparing to go to church, I thought suicide would be a better option. Thought ending it all would be better. I will at least have some measure of peace, the peace I desperately wanted.

Somehow, I didn't follow through with the plan to kill myself. I made some major decisions and let God play his role as God. I left the office and worked day and night. God came through as usual. I have gone on to handle PR for major events and celebrities, manage special talents and two movies I executive produced (The Ghost and The Tout (co-owned) and Seven and a Half Dates were part of top 20 box office hits of 2018). If I had killed myself. Many dreams would have died. There would be no new chapter to write.

Please don't let life or the devil win. Keep working on your life. This is a phase of life, it will pass. Don't commit that suicide, give yourself a second chance. Like phoenix, you will rise from your ashes. Good morning. Bigsam''

Female Police Officer Doing Her Job Well Goes Viral (Photos)

‘Diligence’ and ‘dedication’ are very visible in the personality of an outstanding traffic warden who is the cynosure of all eyes in Lokoja Metropolis, Kogi state, North central Nigeria.

Her name is Mrs. Onoja Joy, she has been described as a very passionate person who delivers her duties with love and commitment. Speaking about herself, she said:

“I started working with the Nigerian police force in April 2003 and in those years I was privileged to serve in the Traffic unit of the Force. I count it a privilege because it has been a lifelong dream of mine to be a traffic warden, as a young lady, I will get really thrilled when I travel across highways and see traffic controllers gyrate in tune with the movement of vehicles.

I would say to myself "I must surely become one of them someday”. I have made lots of friends since I started this job and I am loved by old and young, rich and poor. What makes me stand out is the apparent energy and zest with which I discharge my duties. Some people have described me as having no shame and relying on some narcotic drug or the other to be able to do what I do. I simply ignore such comments because I am a proud born-again Christian belonging to the Deeper Life denomination up until I joined my husband’s Mountain of Fire Church...

I have been given a couple of awards locally and I get financial gifts from people who appreciate what I do especially when they find out I am not just a wife but a mother of five.”

Tears As Saraki, Dino, Others Pay Tribute To Pius Adesanmi In Abuja (Photos)

Some residents of the federal capital territory (FCT) paid last respect to Pius Adesanmi, Nigerian-born Canadian professor, on Wednesday. He was among the passengers on the ill-fated Ethiopian Airlines flight that crashed on its way to Nairobi, Kenya, on Sunday.

All the 157 persons on board died in the accident.

At the Unity Fountain in Abuja, different people, mostly clad in black and teary-eyed, recounted how the professor touched their lives in numerous ways.

While speaking at the event, Senate President Bukola Saraki said Adesanmi was not his enemy despite criticising him.

Describing Adesanmi as an ambassador of Nigeria, Saraki said the professor “did not die in vain.”

“As I was leaving my house somebody said, ‘Sir, do you know that he was very critical of you?’ I said we are not enemies, we share different views and we must appreciate his talent. He had his views, he had his thought about some of us,” he said.

“We can learn from some of those things and that is why I came here to join you and appreciate those that are good ambassadors of this country. His wife and his daughter, let them know that their father and husband did not die in vain. I’m here to give him that respect.”

The Cable reports that Deji Adeyanju, convener of Concerned Nigerians, said Adesanmi was a patriot who ought to be celebrated.

“There is no greater patriot than a person who speaks the truth, we must celebrate Pius Adesanmi. I’m touched by this death and I prayer that his memory be blessed,” Adeyanju said. “We must take the lives of Nigerians more seriously than business.”

On his part, Dino Melaye, senator representing Kogi west, said the professor was one who spoke the truth “fearlessly.” He said one way to honour Adesanmi is to stand for the “truth he wrote.”

Do Anything For Us To Win, Police Can't Arrest You - Kano APC Chairman To Thugs

A clip has gone viral showing Kano State chairman of the ruling APC, Abdullahi Abbas, describing the supplementary governorship election in the state as a “do or die.”

He boasted and assured APC supporters that they would be provide maximum protection, even if it means ensuring the dismissal of any police officer who try to arrest them.

Dressed in a white Kaftan and a white cap, Mr Abbas sat on a plastic chair in a house presumed to be his residence. Surrounding him were youth applauding his remarks.

Speaking in Hausa, the APC chairman said his listeners should stand against any opposition that comes their way during the elections.

“There is every possibility that you can be arrested. But let me tell you; before you get to the police station we will make sure you are released and the police that arrested you will likely lose his job.
“We are going to give you every protection that is required. This election is a matter of do or die for us. We must win this election,” Kano APC chairman said.

Kano State is among the six states where the governorship elections were declared inconclusive. Others are Plateau, Adamawa, Sokoto and Bauchi states. Before the declaration in Kano, the PDP was leading the APC in the governorship election in the state.

Before the announcement of the election result, the deputy governor of Kano State, Nasir Gawuna, and the commissioner in charge of local government and chieftaincy affairs, Sule Garo, were arrested for trying to disrupt the announcement of the results.

Personal Tennis Instructor For Michelle Obama & Daughters Charged In Bribery Scheme

A tennis coach who worked with the family of former President Barack Obama was among the 50 people charged Tuesday in a college admissions scheme in which wealthy parents allegedly bribed coaches and others to get their children accepted to some of the top schools in the U.S.

Gordon Ernst, 52, was a former tennis coach at Georgetown University and the University of Rhode Island. He is accused of conspiracy to commit racketeering while he was at Georgetown.

Ernst was at Georgetown from 2012 to 2017 and was the personal instructor of former first lady Michelle Obama and her daughters, Sasha and Malia, according to the Providence Journal.

None of the Obamas are implicated in the scandal in any way.

Ernst allegedly accepted nearly $3 million in bribes and in return helped a dozen students get onto the Georgetown's tennis team, including kids who didn’t actually play the sport in a competitive fashion, according to the New York Post.

The scam was run by William Singer, who helped parents get their children’s college admissions through bribes, according to court documents.

Most of the students didn't know their admission was due to a bribe, authorities said, but in some cases, the children and their parents took part in the scheme.

So Sad! How Little Boy Died In Lagos Building Collapse After Telling His Mum 'He Didn't Want To Go School'

One of the school children who died in Wednesday’s Lagos school building collapse actually told his mum in the morning that he didn’t want to go to school on the day, being his birthday.

A three-storeyed building including the Ohen Nursery and Primary School, Ita Faji, Lagos Island, collapsed on Wednesday morning, killing at least 12 people as of yesterday’s count.

When SR visited the scene, families and neighbours of the victims were heard giving accounts of what might have been done to avert the incident.

One parent who became an emergency worker overnight told Sahara Reporters: “I have rescued my five-year-old son, he survived; now I'm here to help others but the LASEMA officials are making things very difficult and slow.”

He added that another child killed in the accident might have been alive had events gone another way.

Today is the boy’s birthday; he said he didn't want to go to school because it's his birthday but his mother insisted. He was among those that first died.”

Another said: “A woman couldn't afford fees so she came to beg in the morning but the proprietor turned her back with her child; she has just heard what happened and is thanking God.”

My Son-in-law Won Imo State Governorship Election - Okorocha Cries Out

Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has insisted that his son-in-law and candidate of the Action Alliance (AA), Uche Nwosu won Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

“I say so because going by the actual calculation, the person that won this election is
Ugwumba Uche Nwosu. He won the election landslide, if you remove the manipulation results from Mbaise, Uche Nwosu won with over 50,000 votes, if you cannot declare him a winner because you have someone already, then they should go for a rerun because you cannot change the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria because you want to favour a candidate,” he insisted.

He said Uche Nwosu was rigged out of victory by the Governor-elect Emeka Ihedioha in connivance with Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Professor Francis Ezeonu.

He accused Ezeonu of working for PDP, saying he wrecked democracy with his complicity in alleged electoral manipulations. According to him: “The REC has shown he was brought to Imo after the 2015 election to return PDP to power in the state.

“The REC had acted illegally by ignoring the provision of the Constitution that makes it mandatory for a candidate to have 25 percent in 2/3 of the Local Governments in the State by announcing the PDP candidate, Emeka Ihedioha who only met the requirement in 9 Local Governments instead of 18 LGAs which is 2/3 of 27 LGAs winner.”

Okorocha also wondered why the REC should accept the outrageous figures from the three Local Governments Areas of Aboh Mbaise, Ahiazu Mbaise and Ezinihitte where the PDP candidate got 64,219 votes from Aboh Mbaise alone.

He stated that the figures from the three LGAs constituted 50 percent of the total votes got by the PDP candidate in the State with 27 LGAs.

“In the course of this manipulation, we all observed that the REC decided not to use the collation officers from Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), which he disbanded for reasons he gave that they have met with politicians.

“Again, he brought some people whom he introduced from the University of Agriculture, Umudike.

“They arrived just a night before the election date and we thought we have gotten the collation officers. Again, those ones were disbanded on the same reason that they have met with politicians, I wonder how this is possible having arrived the state after midnight on the election eve.

“Now the REC went to his own University in Awka to bring in collation officers. We believed him not knowing that he brought people he has been training for a hatched job for some weeks now in Anambra State to come and carry out this injustice in Imo State.

“These men arrived with heavy security from Anambra and went straight to the various Local Governments. We never knew that these were relatives of the PDP candidate and from the same Local Government. These are relatives of the PDP Candidate who were already briefed of what to do.

“This explains the over voting witnessed in Mbaise. Out of the 270,000 votes that he scored, 50 percent of it or over 130,000 all came from just three local governments of Mbaise”, he stated.

Okorocha added, “As far as I am concerned and we still maintain that REC has wrecked democracy in Imo State. Unfortunately for them, they were not smart enough to know that section 179 requires you to have a spread at least in 2/3 of the local governments before you can be declared a winner.

“They ended up with only 9 local governments instead of 18 required by law. The Returning Officer was advised by all the Senior Staff of INEC against declaring a winner without looking at the Constitution.

“This man in a hurry decided to announce the result against the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“This is wrong, in doing so, the Returning Officer didn’t even consider the results cancelled, total voters cancelled in the different Polling Booths, was enough to declare the election inconclusive as the difference between the PDP and AA would have called for a supplementary election. With the speed with which he announced the result tells you that the man is part of the game. This again is unacceptable to all of us,” he said.

Woman Sergeant Justina Aghomon, said to be pregnant, was killed with colleagues on Tuesday by some yet-to-be identified gunmen who attacked Afuze Police Station in Edo State. How sad!
