Brenton Tarrant, a 28-year-old Australian, is suspected to be the gunman behind the horrific attack that left 49 persons dead in the New Zealand city of Christchurch on Friday. The suspect invaded two mosques during a coordinated and unprecedented attack.

He was a good man, what came over him? What led to this heartless act?

Tarrant reportedly worked as a personal trainer at Big River Gym in the northern New South Wales city of Grafton.

Tracey Gray, gym manager, told ABC News the man who filmed the attack and streamed it online was Tarrant. She said he worked at the gym after he graduated from school in 2009 until 2011, when he left to go travelling overseas in Asia and in Europe.

“He was a very dedicated personal trainer,” Gray said. “He worked in our program that offered free training to kids in the community, and he was very passionate about that.”

The gym manager said she never saw Tarrant as someone who had an interest in firearms. “I think something must have changed in him during the years he spent travelling overseas,” she said.

Tarrant was said to have lost his father Rodney to some kind of asbestos-related illness when he was rounding off high school.

He left his job after making some money from Bitconnect, a cryptocurrency like Bitcoin, and then used the money to fund his travels. He is known to have travelled to Europe, South-East Asia and East Asia.

Rotimi Amaechi's Close Man Cries Out: Buhari Has Abandon Us In Rivers APC

Chidi Lloyd, an ally of the minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has accused President Buhari of turning against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had suspended the governorship and state house of assembly elections indefinitely, citing “widespread disruption”.

But Lloyd, director-general of the campaign organisation of Tonye Cole, governorship candidate of the Amaechi faction of the APC, accused Buhari of abandoning APC party members in the state “when they needed him the most.”

Speaking as a guest on Channels Television, he alleged that the state’s election results were doctored till the exercise was suspended because Buhari turned his back on party members in the state.

“The party is being treated like this in the state because of our support for President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 and unfortunately for those who supported the president, he has turned his back on us,” he said.

“We are in the pains, we are in pains to watch President Buhari do this to us... President Buhari should open up a probe into the activities of INEC.”

Funny enough, the APC is not even in the ballot in Rivers State elections.

Two Corps Members To Repeat Service In Benue

The Benue State coordinator, National Youth Service Corps,  Mr Joshua Shicha, on Thursday said two corps members of the  2018 Batch ‘A’  had been “remobilised” in Benue State.

Speaking during an interview with Punch correspondent in Makurdi, he also stated that the affected corps members, who he declined to name, were remobilised for absconding.  He explained that the corps members were not seen in their place of primary assignment for three months.

According to him, such an act is against the NYSC rules and regulations.

How My Stepdad, His Mum, Beat My Brother To Death

A teenager, Omobowale Sunmola, Thursday told a Lagos High Court in Igbosere that her stepfather and his mother beat her elder brother to death and dumped his corpse in a canal.

Omobowale told Justice Sedoten Ogunsanya that the incident occurred at their Maryland, Lagos apartment in 2014.

She was 11 at the time, she explained, and about to begin Junior Secondary School (JSS) 1, while her brother, Tunde, was 13.

Omobowale, now 17, testified during the trial of her mother, Margaret Olufunmilayo Odunlade, her stepfather, Folorunsho Emmanuel and his mother, Funke Maxwell, for the alleged offence.


Odunlade, Emmanuel and Maxwell were arraigned by the Lagos State Government in 2014, on a two-count charge of manslaughter and misconduct with regard to a corpse.

Prosecuting counsel, Adebayo Haroun, said the offences were committed at about 6am, on August 2, 2014, at 17, Emmanuel Street, Maryland, Ikeja, Lagos.

He said the defendants unlawfully killed Tunde Sunmola by beating him and not taking him to the hospital for treatment of injuries he sustained on his leg.

Odunlade was also accused of dumping Tunde’s body in a canal.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened sections 222 and 163 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Omobowale, led in evidence by Haroun, testified as the third prosecution witness.

The witness said at the time, she lived with her mom, stepdad and his mom, while Tunde lived in Ijebu Ode with their grandmother, Mrs. Arinola Sunmola.

She said Tunde was eager to see her and their mum, so their grandmother persuaded his mother to come along to Ijebu with her (Sunmola) and take him to Lagos on August 1.

According to Omobowale, when they got to Lagos, “My mother asked Tunde to start moving ahead of us and when I asked her why, she said she didn’t want people in the area to know that Tunde was her son.

That night when my mom’s husband came back from work, he asked my mum, ‘who is this boy?’

“My mom said: ‘He is one of my sons.’

“Her husband said: ‘Did you tell me you had another son outside?’

“My mum said it was a mistake.

“So, they argued and he asked why she didn’t tell him about my brother. She could not say anything,

“That night, after we slept, I heard, my mum’s husband and his mother beating my brother. My mum later carried my brother on her back and I woke up and asked her, ‘where are you taking him?’ She said she was taking him back to Ijebu. I told her we were going together but she refused.

“When she returned, I asked her where my brother was. She said she had returned him to Ijebu.”

The witness said the following day, a relation, ‘Aunty Yemi’, told her that her brother was dead.

The witness said Omobowale later informed her that Tunde was beaten to death by her mother’s new husband and his mother.

Following the conclusion of testimonies, Justice Sedoten Ogunsanya adjourned further proceedings till June 26.

The Supreme Court on Friday affirmed another order of interim forfeiture made by the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court in respect of the sum of N2.4bn allegedly traced to the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mrs. Patience Jonathan.

The apex court had, barely a week ago, affirmed an interim forfeiture of the sum of $8.4m belonging to the ex-First Lady and directed her to return to the Federal High Court in Lagos to show cause why the fund should not be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.

On Friday, in a separate appeal, a five-man Bench of the apex court unanimously handed down a similar verdict on another sum of N2.4bn in the bank account of Lawari Furniture & Bath Limited, a firm which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had linked to Mrs. Jonathan.

Okorocha To INEC: Release My Certificate, It Will Be Interesting If I'm In The Senate

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo has appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue him with certificate of return as the senator-elect for Imo West. He made the appeal at a press conference in Abuja.

His words, “I will advise INEC to do the right thing, to release my certificate so that I can celebrate as others. I want to be in the Senate and it will be interesting if I am there."

He urged INEC not to allow itself to be manipulated by his political opponents who, he said, wanted to freeze him out politically.

Okorocha insisted that his travails are connected to the politics of 2023 and that his opponents are already conspiring to close him out.

“I understand that people are beginning to fight a war of the future now when we are not even yet there. The idea is that, do not give Rochas a certificate; you must slow him down until after they have elected the presiding officers, then you can let him come in,” he said.

The governor added that the idea was to also ensure that he does not become anything in the Senate.

Nicki Minaj's Criminal Boyfriend 'Pleads Guilty To Driving On Suspended License'

Nicki Minaj's criminal boyfriend Kenneth Petty has pleaded guilty to driving on a suspended license reports TMZ.

According to court documents viewed by the website, Petty, 41 - who started dating Starships rapper Nicki, 36, in December - pled guilty in New York to aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

The offence reportedly occurred when a police officer saw Petty run a stop sign at around 1.30am on September 13 in Long Island.

Police are then said to have pulled Petty over and discovered he was driving on a suspended license.

It was alleged that Kenneth will have to pay $88 in fines and clear his license.

Kidnapped Lebanese Worker Found Dead In Kano

The Lebanese engineer that was kidnapped on Tuesday morning has been found dead in Kano State.

The expatriate, an employee of Triacta Construction Company was working on the underpass bride at Dangi roundabout by Zoo road before he was kidnapped.

Kano Police Command Spokesman DSP Abdullahi Haruna Confirmed to Channels Television that the corpse of the Lebanese was found along Maiduguri road on Thursday evening.

He said the body has since been deposited at Murtala Muhammad Specialists Hospital in the metropolis and investigation continue into his abduction and the killing.


A source informed Channels that his family has been notified and arrangements are ongoing for his corpse to be taken back to his country.

Recalled that the expatriate Engineer, Lebanon National was abducted early on Tuesday by four suspected gunmen while his driver was killed instantly.

Lagos Begins Demolition Of Defective Houses

The Lagos State Building Control Agency, on Friday morning, commenced the demolition of defective buildings within Lagos Island.

About 180 houses will be demolished in the exercise, according to the General Manager of LASBCA, Mr. Lekan Shodeinde.

Though Shodeinde had said that 20 buildings would be demolished on Friday (today) alone, the agency eventually pulled down only three buildings as of close of work on the first day of the demolition exercise (today).

The demolition exercise continues, it was gathered. The agency’s task force began with the demolition of a three-storey building on 60A Freeman Street, Epetedo.

The demolition is coming on the heels of Wednesday building collapse on Massey Street, Ita Faaji, Lagos Island, which killed many pupils and injured others.
