Mom Who Lost Her Daughter To Suicide After Being R-ped & Bullied Wants Something Done

A heartbroken mother has shared the devastating final note her daughter left before she killed herself after being 'gang-raped by bullies'.

Cassidy Trevan took her own life in December 2015 when she was 15, two years after the alleged r-pe.

Her mother, Linda Trevan, said she had kept her room virtually untouched since her death but was sorting out her things ahead of a house move when she found the devastating note.

“I hadn’t really touched Cass’s room until now but when I picked up a pile of papers on her desk this five-page hand written note, just on loose blank paper, was so noticeable that it stood out to me straight away so I read it,” she told 9news.


In the note, she describes the bullying she says she endured in the months and years after the alleged r-pe by two boys at a house in Springvale South, Victoria.

In the note, schoolgirl Cassidy, from Melbourne, Australia, wrote: “The whole school has heard stories about me, as well as teachers.

“I get people I’ve never met contacting me on Facebook calling me a slut. I’ve moved schools, I’ve moved house and I’m still being bullied.

“I was r-ped. Just last night after one and a half years I still have nightmares over what happened."

“Wellington says they have an antibullying policy and a zero tolerance of bullying and yet the (school) did nothing,” the note continues.

“Even after my mother and I going and talking to them about this. Even after police contacting them and everything.”

Today would have been Cassidy's 19th birthday.

The note comes as a leading Australian bullying researcher and a national bullying organisation both make calls for bullying to become a national focus ahead of the federal election.

None of Cassidy's alleged bullies or rapists were ever charged by police.

Now, mum Linda is calling on the Australian government to do more to combat bullying.

Linda now runs a Facebook page called Bullying Killed My Daughter Cassidy Trevan, where she shares her daughter's story and fights bullying with her 10,000 followers.

Cholera Outbreak Fears In Nairobi As Water Mixes With Raw Sewage

Residents of Nairobi’s Umoja estate have raised their concerns over the safety of the water they have been consuming in their homes in the past several weeks.

A spot check by Daily Nation in Umoja 1 reveals that many residents, especially children, have in recent days contracted infections as a result of drinking what they suspect to be contaminated water.
Samples of water from the taps was found to be green or brown and in some cases smelling of sewage.

This comes at a time when the Nairobi City County last week confirmed an outbreak of cholera in the City.

Most plots, from Umoja 1 A to E, have had their water meters locked in the past five days because of the water contamination, which residents fear may bring an epidemic of waterborne diseases in one of Nairobi’s most populous neighbourhoods.


“The water has been dirty for long, it has been mixed with sewage and we had been using it unknowingly. We did not know we were drinking sewage until much later when I opened the kitchen tap and the water was stinking,” said Honest Rimoi, a resident of the estate.

His children, he says, contracted amoeba after consuming the water which has become dirtier in past four days.

“We are tired of buying water everyday even when we are not even sure if it is clean. We do not know where they (vendors) draw the water from,” he said.

Many other residents have complained of suffering from ailments such as amoeba, typhoid or diarrhea as a result of drinking contaminated water.

Weed Lovers Complain Of Shortage As Police Step Up War On Drug Abuse In Kenya

Weed lovers in Kenya have complained of hard times after police stepped up the war on drugs netting bhang worth millions of shillings.

In the last five months alone, police have seized bhang worth Sh13 million with coastal areas coming across as the hotbed.

The latest bust happened today, Friday morning when 2,159, 380 rolls and four sacks were seized at the Salgaa roadblock along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway. It is to be worth Sh2.5 million.
Those in the know now claim that the operation has forced big sellers underground, pushing up the price of the drug.

A roll that would cost Sh50 is now going for Sh100 or Sh150. The rolls have also shrunk in size, according to a peddler.


According to the law, any person found with any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance is guilty of an offence. Where the person satisfies the court that the drug was intended for personal consumption, the convict is handed 10 years in jail, while those trafficking are imprisoned for 20 years.

Footage Of Woman ‘Beating Nursery Children’ Goes Viral

A woman in South Africa has been arrested after videos surfaced appearing to show a person hitting children and forcing them to clean.

One clip shows a woman shouting at a girl who appears to have vomited, before hitting her on the head.

The footage was filmed in Johannesburg a year ago but has re-emerged.

As well as hitting the young child, the woman is also seen smacking her on her bottom and repeatedly asking her: “Why are you vomiting? Why?”


Twitter users were quick to condemn the woman. One person replied “my heart sank”, while another posted: “Wow you don’t understand how much this brings tears to my eyes, poor baby.”

Some also questioned why the person filming failed to step in and stop the beatings.

One of the strongest social media responses came from the regional education minister, Panyaza Lesufi, who was tagged in the video.

“Disgusting!!! I couldn’t even finish watching it!” he wrote, before tagging his colleagues and adding: “Let’s hunt this creche! I am [on] standby to pounce just get details.”

The South African Department of Social Development also tweeted about the incident, saying they “condemn the abuse of children” before appealing for more information.

The woman has since been arrested amid investigations into the incident, according to enca.com.

The website quoted South African Police Service saying that the woman was arrested a week ago and appeared in court on 28 March and was released on bail while further investigations are underway.

She was due to return to court on 7th May 2019.

F-SARS Arrests Ajimobi's Former Aide For Withholding N18.5M Meant For Election Violence

Godwin Obode, former Special Assistant on Youth and Student Matters to Abiola Ajimobi, Governor of Oyo State, has been arrested.

SaharaReporters learnt that Obode was picked up by men of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS) some days ago following his refusal to return the N18.5million he received from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State for the general election but did not spend.

Obode worked for Ajimobi during his first term as Governor but subsequently resigned with the explanation that he wanted to relocate abroad.

He later went to work for Teslim Folarin, a two-term Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator who contested (and lost) the 2015 Oyo State governorship election on PDP’s platform before joining the APC in 2017.


However, towards the 2019 election when APC was fearing a bad performance, the party engaged Obode to ruin the election in Okeogun and Oyo town.

“Ajimobi gave him money to mobilise students as security cover for the election,” a senior party figure who asked not to be named, told SaharaReporters.

“They gave him N18.5million for the election, but they later found out that he didn’t do anything; he was just having fun, drinking, on election day. They were even calling him to get field reports on election day, but they couldn’t get him.

"The problem now is that despite the best efforts of the Governor to recoup the money, Obode doesn’t want to return it.”

When SARS officials searched his house last week, they found the bag with which the N18.5million was delivered to him. The bag still contained a leftover sum of N9million.

Obodo was then arrested but later released, though he still has to report at the F-SARS office regularly.

Two Herbalists Remanded For Being In Possession Of Coffin In Ilorin

An Ilorin magistrates’ court on Friday ordered that two herbalists be remanded in prison for allegedly being in possession of a coffin wrapped with white cloth which contained dangerous charms prepared for money ritual, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

The police charged Adewole Bashiru and Owuoade Olabisi with being in possession of criminal charms and Advance fee Fraud.

Magistrate Aminat Shittu who ordered that Bashiru and Olabisi be remanded in Okekura Prison Yard, Ilorin, adjourned the case until April 12 for further mention.


The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Sanni Abdullahi informed the court that the accused persons were arrested with in a Mazda car with registration number LND 451 CF with a coffin on Unity road, Ilorin.

Abdullahi also said that two calabashes, filled with black soap, cowries and other fetish charms were seized from the accused.

He said that during interrogation, the accused persons confessed that they “prepared” the coffin for their customer, Wabi Amodu who paid N3.3 million.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 97 and 217 of the Penal Code Law and Sections 3(1) of Advance fee Fraud and Other related Offences 2006.

After the charges were to them, they pleaded not guilty.

Abdullahi, then prayed the court to remand the accused persons in prison custody pending the outcome of investigation.

SERIOUSLY? Onnoghen Has Resigned As CJN

Walter Onnoghen has resigned as the chief justice of Nigeria (CJN) with immediate effect, TheCable can report. He turned in his resignation letter to President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, a day after the National Judicial Council recommended that he be compulsorily retired for misconduct.

By virtue of section 306 of the 1999 constitution, his resignation takes immediate effect. The resignation, TheCable understands, was the “best possible option” for Onnoghen under the current circumstance.

It will also save President Buhari from having to get two-thirds majority of the senate to confirm Onnoghen’s retirement as stipulated in Section 292 (1) of the 1999 constitution which says a “judicial officer shall not be removed from his office or appointment before his age of retirement except in the following circumstances – (a) in the case of – (i) Chief Justice of Nigeria… by the President acting on an address supported by two-thirds majority of the Senate.”

Buhari may not be able to muster the needed majority.

‘GOLDEN HANDSHAKE’ 
TheCable previously reported that Onnoghen’s retirement benefits in cash and kind will cost tax payers about N2.5 billion.

As part of the package for a retired chief justice, a house will be built for him in Abuja with a nine-digit sum for furnishing — in addition to a severance gratuity that is 300% of his annual basic salary of N3,363,972.50, as well as pension for life.

Just like state governors, a retired chief justice is entitled to a number of domestic staff and sundry allowances for personal upkeep.

This package for judicial officers was put together by the NJC long before Onnoghen became the CJN in 2017. However, if he is dismissed, he will not be entitled to any benefits.

Onnoghen chose the option of resignation as a measure of damage control, his associates said.

CASED CLOSED? 
TheCable reported on Wednesday that the NJC had recommended the embattled CJN for compulsory retirement after deliberating on a petition by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) which alleges “financial impropriety, infidelity to the constitution and other economic and financial crimes related laws”.

Onnoghen, who denied all allegations, is also undergoing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) over charges of false asset declaration.

Onnoghen has closed his defence at the CCT and the tribunal is expected to give its judgment at the next sitting on April 15. But for the crisis, Onnoghen, who is 68, was due for retirement in 2020.

If the “soft landing” option is favoured by Buhari, the EFCC may not proceed with filing criminal charges while the case at the CCT could become academic because the major punishment for Onnoghen would have been his removal from office.

He could be banned from holding public office for 10 years, while his assets believed to have been acquired illegitimately will be confiscated.

Shock As Pastor's Wife Dies From Snake Bite In Delta Hours After Wedding

Prophet Patrick Eyaefe, the founder of Miracle Working God Ministry in Sapele, Delta State, whose wife died from snake bite some hours after their wedding, yesterday, narrated how the negligence of a private hospital led to her death.

The 44-year-old pastor said they had been together for eight years, you know as a man of God I was supposed to regularise my marriage, so after eight years and with a growing ministry and five kids, I decided to do the right thing. Now see what has happened after the marriage.

“We were relaxing at home after the marriage at about 7pm on Sunday, March 30, 2019, when she went to buy sachet water and she had hardly left for five minutes when I heard her screaming for help.

“I dashed down and she told me that a snake just bit her, I took her to the hospital that night and I tied the leg as someone instructed me. When we got t to the hospital, after paying N1,000 to register, the doctor was not around. The nurse who was on duty had to call the doctor before he came and when he eventually arrived, they were looking at her as if her life was not important.

“The drugs he (the doctor) prescribed for me I went to buy it and when I came back, he insisted I should go back and get the dosage of the drug, and my wife was lying there without being attended to.

“When I returned, they tightened the rope I use in tying the leg so that the venom will not spread and right thereafter administering the anti-venom drug, she still died.

“My wife died on the day I took her to the altar. They left her for too long without attending to her. It was a case of neglect. If they had acted quickly she would not have died. She died leaving five kids for me. How do I go on?”

But the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr John Akwara, denied negligence on the part of the hospital as there was little the doctor could do at the point she was taken to the hospital.

He said: “Snake venoms kill within minutes, the doctor who treated her is a certified medical doctor with over 10 years in service. Snakebite is a snake bite anywhere, five minutes you are gone.

“We even gave her oxygen, which goes to show how far the damage has been done. Once venom has reached the heart, there is nothing anybody can do about it.”

Man Stabs Landlord To Death While Stopping Him From Beating His Own Mother

An landlord identified as Odiaka Moemeke, has reportedly been stabbed to death while attempting to separate a fight between a mother and his recalcitrant son.

Eyewitnesses said the son, one Gabriel Uwaya, who has been arrested by the police, allegedly stabbed the deceased in the throat as he attempted to stop him from beating his mother.

The incident happened on Tuesday on Anwai road, Asaba, Delta State capital. Sources said the 20-year-old suspect is a secondary school drop-out who took to beating his mother as a hobby.

Acting Public Relations Office of the state police command, ASP Chuks Orisewezie, who confirmed the incident and subsequent arrest of the suspect on Thursday, said it was not yet clear if the deceased was the landlord of the house where he was allegedly killed, The Sun reports.

Orisewezie said: “One Gabriel Uwaya was fighting the mother when one of his neighbours, Mr. Odiaka Moemeke, in the process of separating the fight, was stabbed to death by the young boy on Tuesday and (the latter) ran away.

“Our men have been searching for the suspect since the incident occurred but on Wednesday evening, we were able to arrest him.

“The deceased has been deposited in the mortuary. For now, I don’t know whether the said neighbour is his landlord or not. An investigation is still ongoing.”

A neighbour in the area who spoke on condition of anonymity described the death of Odiaka as painful.

“I know Odiaka very well; we were leaving together with his father before they built their house here on Anwai road. Odiaka was a young man of about 30 years old and just came back from Malaysia. So, it is very painful for such a young man who just came back to meet his death,” the neighbour said.
