Husband In Trouble For Attempting To Murder His Wife

Policemen from the Zonal Intervention Squad, Ladegboye Police Station, Ikorodu, Lagos, have arrested a 42-year-old man, Ikenna Echedowo, for 'attempting to murder' his wife, Felicia, with a machete.

It was gathered that trouble started when Felicia arrived home around 11.33pm on April 2, 2019, and the generator was said to have gone off as it ran out of fuel.

Ikenna was said to have questioned his son why the generator went off, and as the son was trying to explain to him that it ran out of fuel, the suspect tried to beat him.

The mother, Felicia, was said to have intervened and Ikenna allegedly was furious with her for dictating how he should deal with their son.

An eyewitness, who did not want his name mentioned, said Ikenna shifted his anger to his wife by asking her to leave his house.

According to The Punch, the eyewitness stated that when the wife asked him to give her part of the money he realised from selling her plot of land so that she could move on, Ikenna became enraged and asked the woman to wait for him outside.

The suspect was said to have emerged from his room with a sharp-edged cutlass, which he allegedly flung in the direction of his wife’s head; the woman, however, used her hands to block the machete blow.

The police thereafter arrested and arraigned Ikenna before the Ijede Magistrates’ Court for attempted murder.

The prosecutor, Aminu Isaac, said from the information gathered, the woman had been living in constant fear as Ikenna had often threatened to kill her and bury her corpse in the house to erase traces.

He stated that a search conducted around Ikenna’s house revealed that he had two other machetes apart from the one he used on Felicia.

Ikenna, who was arraigned on two counts of unlawful assault and an attempt to murder Felicia, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs A. Oshodi, granted the suspect bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. The case was adjourned till April 7, 2019.

Julian Assange Found Guilty Of Skipping Bail

Julian Assange has been found guilty of skipping bail as he appeared in court with his hair in a ponytail after being arrested at the Ecuadorian embassy yesterday.

The WikiLeaks founder had spent seven years holed up inside the Knightsbridge building in order to avoid extradition.

Yesterday morning Met Police carried him screaming out of the building after Ecuador revoked his asylum.

Westminster Magistrates' Court heard the history of the Swedish offences case through the UK courts and how he entered the Ecuadorian embassy when his appeal fail in June 2012 which was in breach of his bail.

District Judge Michael Snow found him guilty of failing to surrender on June 29th, 2012. Assange had pleaded not guilty.

Judge Snow said Assange's behaviour is that "of a narcissist who cannot get beyond his own selfish interest”.

He did not give evidence but his lawyer will argue he had a "reasonable excuse" for not surrendering to custody.

Assange faces a jail sentence of up to 12 months when he is sentenced at Crown Court.

The judge described Assange's defence as "laughable".

He said: "Mr Assange's behaviour is that of a narcissist who cannot get beyond his own selfish interests.

"He hasn't come close to establishing 'reasonable excuse'."

The court also heard the US has requested Assange's extradition over an allegation that he conspired with intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning to disclose documents.

He is accused taking part in "one of the largest compromises of classified information in the history of the United States."

Assange was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court at a date to be set.

Woman Praises Lipstick That Stays Perfect In Car Crash Leaving Just A Smudge On Airbag

A woman has praised a lipstick brand after her bright red lips stayed perfect when she was in a car crash.

Taryn Elise shared the unusual review on Twitter after her blue mini was involved in what looks like a head on crash.

While the bonnet is completely destroyed, her make-up is still in place.

After the crash Taryn, who lives in Chicago, posted a selfie to show how resistant her lipstick by American make-up artist Jeffree Star is.

The only sign that something had happened was an imprint on her airbag from where her lips hit it on impact.

Sharing photos on Twitter, she wrote: "If anyone is curious about how well JeffreeStar lipstick holds up - I was just in a car accident and there are lipstick marks on the airbag but my face is OK."

Her tweet quickly went viral and before long the man behind the product Jeffree Star retweeted.

It has now attracted thousands of comments from impressed women.

26-Year Old Man Remanded In Prison Over N650,000 FRSC Job Scam

A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded a 26-year-old man prison for allegedly defrauding three job applicants of N650,000.

The Magistrate, Mr Peter Chaha, ordered that Ezekiel Francis be remanded in Makurdi prison and adjourned the matter until May 21, for further mention

Francis was charged with criminal conspiracy, impersonation and Advance Fee Fraud punishable under Sections 97, 132 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue, 2004; and 3(1) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Related Offences Act, 2006.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Regina Ishaya, told the court that the defendant had defrauded the trio of Paul Ukoha, Arubi Job and Obo John under the pretext of getting them jobs at the Federal Road Safety Corps.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant conspired with one Solomon Ogbu of Sango, Ogun, and told the victims that they were officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps who could help them get recruited into the outfit at a fee.

The victims said they sent N650,000 to the conspirators through a Union Bank account number 0068239410 and UBA account number 2116011062.

Other items the defendant and his accomplice collected from the complainants were their original primary school certificates, original secondary school certificates, state of origin certificates and National ID cards.

The complainants said that after collecting the money and the items, however, the conspirators failed to recruit them as promised and converted the money to their personal use.

Francis was later arrested by the police during investigation, while Ogbu is still at large.

When the case came up for mention, the defendant did not take the plea for want of jurisdiction.

Ishaya told the court that investigation into the matter was in progress.

Professor Arrested For Aiding Daughter To Cheat In JAMB

A self-acclaimed professor, identified only as Jide, has been arrested by operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, after he was caught assisting his daughter during the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in the Jabi area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

JAMB confirmed Jide’s arrest yesterday, first day of the exam, noting that he sneaked into a Computer-Based Test centre in Jabi but was later arrested by operatives and was now in custody.

It was learnt that Jide was arrested at the Brix Academy CBT Centre in Jabi while the UTME was on, trying to assist his daughter in the examination.

The JAMB Head of Information and Public Affairs, Dr Fabian Benjamin, told The Punch that the NSCDC would go on with Jide’s prosecution at the end of its investigations.

He said, “In Brix Academy in Jabi, a man penetrated the system, broke all security barriers, went into the examination hall and assisted his daughter. When arrested, he claimed to be a professor and also the owner of a non-governmental organisation. He has been picked up and he is with the security operatives. We believe that in no distant time, he will be prosecuted.

“He was not able to carry out his nefarious activity. He claimed to be a professor from a university outside the country.”

Benjamin noted that the outing for the UTME on Thursday was “successful and impressive,” adding that despite a few challenges in some centres, the board believed that the examination would get better.

A total of 1,855,643 candidates would be taking the UTME which would run till Monday.

Buhari Presidency Drags Atiku... PDP Headquarters Reacts

The Federal Government has said the Presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has the right to challenge the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 presidential election in court.

It, however, called on the former Vice-President to allow the court to determine the merits or otherwise of his petition against the APC candidate, Buhari in the election.

It said it was wrong for Atiku to resort to self-help in his desire to claim victory in the election.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who stated the government position at a media briefing in Abuja on Thursday, also condemned the resurgence of posters bearing the picture of Atiku, with the inscription: “THE PUKKA, H.E. ATIKU ABUBAKAR, THE REAL AND THE RIGHT,” which have surfaced across major streets in Abuja.

“The appearance of these posters coincide with the media report that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has hired a US lobbying firm to convince the United States not to recognise the re-election of President Buhari until the Supreme Court has ruled on the suit by the PDP presidential candidate,” the minister said.

He said, “Yes, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has lost an election. But he will not be the first or the last person to lose an election, and he should realise that losing an election is not the end of the world.

“He has challenged the result of the election in court. That’s just as well. However, he should not give the impression that he does not have confidence in the judicial process, which his resorting to self-help implies.

“He should stop overheating the polity and quit trying to instigate a political crisis in Nigeria. No citizen, no matter how highly placed, is above the laws of the land. Enough is enough.”

Mohammed, who was flanked at the briefing by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Mallam Garba Shehu, said the posters and the alleged hiring of the US lobbyists, had triggered questions about what Alhaji Abubakar was up to.

He said, “Is he starting a fresh campaign after the elections have been won and lost? Has he rescinded his decision to challenge the results of the presidential election in court, perhaps after realising that the results he claimed to have obtained from the INEC server are cooked? Is he now going for self-help? What really is Atiku’s motive?

“We are aware of media reports that the PDP presidential candidate on Wednesday distanced himself from the posters that are circulating in Abuja. He also reportedly denied hiring the US lobbyists, claiming tongue-in-cheek that the APC fabricated the report.

“If the media reports are right, it means that the former Vice-President has suddenly realised the grave implication of his actions, hence has decided to beat a quick retreat before it is too late.

“As a self-avowed democrat, he should realise that the only lawful channel for challenging the result of an election is through the courts. Resorting to self-help, as he seems to be doing now, is an act of desperation and the consequences are dire.

“Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has the right to do whatever is lawful to challenge the outcome of that election. But he cannot get through the back door what he couldn’t get through the front door. That will be a pipe dream.”

Mohammed however said that there was no doubt that Atiku was equally thinking of replicating the Venezuela’s model in the country.

He said, “There is no doubt that the PDP presidential candidate, out of desperation, is thinking of replicating the Venezuelan model right here in Nigeria. But he should realise that Nigeria is not Venezuela, and that the situations in both countries are not the same.

“President Muhammadu Buhari won the February 23, 2019 presidential election fair and square, with a margin of 3,928,869 million votes. The election’s credibility was attested to by local and foreign observers.

APC, Presidency plotting to set up Atiku, says PDP
However, the National Working Committee of the PDP on Thursday accused the APC and the Presidency of engaging in plots to set up Atiku.

The National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement said no amount of fabrications, attempt at set-up as well as veiled and open threats allegedly by the APC-led Federal Government would stop Atiku from reclaiming his mandate at the tribunal.

He said, “The party notes that a series of orchestration against Atiku and the PDP by agents of the Federal Government, officials of the Presidency and the Buhari Media Organisation expose a well-coordinated plot, which includes a resort to unfounded claims of links with a foreign lobby group, to attempt to frame Atiku, cause tension and ultimately derail the recovery of the stolen mandate at the presidential election petitions tribunal.

“Such orchestration is also targeted at instilling fear, causing apprehension in the citizenry and creating opening to further suppress genuine public opinion and the course of justice in the quest by Atiku Abubakar and the PDP to restore the will of the people.”

He added, “Part of the motive is to use lies, fabrications, threats and sponsoring of Atiku campaign posters to portray Atiku Abubakar and the PDP as being desperate and ready to subvert the rules in the pursuit of our mandate; and by so doing discredit our candidate in the eyes of the judiciary and the public in general.

“This explains why the agents of the APC-led government fabricated and pushed into the public space, bogus and laughable claims that Atiku Abubakar paid $30,000 to a US lobby group to assist in the quest to reclaim our mandate only for the Federal Government and the Presidency to turn around to feast on the fabrications with threats against Atiku Abubakar.”

He called on Nigerians to take note of the alleged threats by the Presidency through the Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, to jail Atiku based on trumped-up charges, while describing him as “one who is lucky to be walking free.”

Woman Attacked By Herdsmen Needs Money For Treatment

A resident of Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State, Miss Esther Nmecha, has solicited financial assistance from good-hearted Nigerians to enable her to settle her hospital bills.

Nmecha is currently battling for survival from the injuries she sustained from a brutal attack by some of the notorious armed herdsmen terrorizing Nigerians. She was attacked on Sunday, March 31.

Narrating her ordeal, she said trouble started around
4pm on the day when herdsmen encroached on her business premises at Peoples Road, Ogbor Hill, Aba.

She said an appeal to the invaders to leave the premises fell on deaf ears as they threatened to kill her.

Nmecha stated, “In making real their threat, one of the Fulani herdsmen brought out his machete and targeted to cut my neck. It was in an attempt to defend myself that he missed his target and cut off my four fingers.

“I was rushed to the Police Clinic at the Central Police Station, Aba, where they immediately referred me to the Aba General Hospital as a result of the critical nature of my case. But due to paucity of funds, my treatment has been stopped, because I am unable to raise the N60,000 deposit demanded by the hospital.

“I’m appealing to all Nigerians of goodwill to come to my aid and help me to raise the N60,000 deposit being requested by the hospital to enable me to continue with my treatment.”

She said her aged mother was not financially buoyant to take care of her hospital bills.

Why House Of Reps Summon President Buhari

The House of Representatives on Thursday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to appear before it with a view to address Nigerians on the spate of insecurity across the country.

The green chamber of the National Assembly said failure by the President to explain the issues raised by the legislative house would confirm the opinion of Nigerians that the administration had failed in its responsibility to protect lives and property of Nigerians.

This is part of the resolutions passed at the plenary when the lawmakers unanimously adopted a motion moved by the lawmaker representing a constituency in Benue State, Mark Gbillah.

The motion was entitled, ‘Resurgence of the incessant and annual massacre of innocent Nigerians across the country by alleged bandits and killer herdsmen, the gradual occupation of affected communities by these attackers and the lack of adequate rehabilitation and relief materials.’

Adopting the motion, which was not debated, the lawmakers resolved to “request that the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to address the House and the entire nation within 48 hours.”

Buhari is expected to make some explanations to Nigerians on “his inability and the inability of his administration, since inception, to declare the killer herdsmen as terrorists, to enable the Armed Forces to take commensurate action against them.

“The inability of the Armed Forces under his watch to stop the recurring death of scores of innocent Nigerians annually from systemic attacks by killer herdsmen and alleged bandits, and the gradual occupation of the affected communities by these herdsmen despite countless assurances and statements by him, promising to stop these attacks.

“His selective and ineffective responses to the killing of Nigerians by herdsmen, especially when they occur in certain parts of the country like Benue State.

“The immediate measures he intends to employ as the Commander-in-Chief to provide the Armed Forces, including the police, with the required resources (equipment and welfare, etc) to confront and dislodge the killer herdsmen from their known hideouts, establishment of permanent presence in immediate proximity to affected communities and provide a timeline within which these attacks by killer herdsmen and alleged bandits will be curtailed, so Nigerians can return to their ancestral homes and means of livelihood.”

The House further resolved to constitute an ad hoc committee to interface with the Presidency regarding the queries, while it would engage with the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali; Chief of Defence Staff and service chiefs, state governments and relevant stakeholders.

The engagement, the lawmakers resolved, would be done “in a public hearing to determine permanent solutions to the killing of innocent Nigerians by killer herdsmen and alleged bandits, including the complicity of any Nigerian or group in the perpetration of these killings and land grabbing.”

Travellers now safe on Abuja-Kaduna Highway, IG claims
But the acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Adamu, assured travellers that the Abuja-Kaduna Highway was safe for them to use.

Adamu, who spoke after Thursday’s security meeting, claimed that the dreaded road became safe after security forces had several encounters with suspected kidnappers.

The IG said as a result, many kidnappers were either arrested or wounded in gun battles between them and security forces.

“I want to assure Nigerians that the Kaduna-Abuja Road is now safe. We have cleared the road; we have arrested a lot of kidnappers and in confrontation with some of them, some were fatally injured.

“So, the road is cleared. Our patrol teams, the combined security services that are patrolling the road, are constantly there, 24 hours,” he claimed.

Government Warns Atiku Against Self-Help

The Federal Government yesterday warned Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar against resorting to self-help over the outcome of the February 23 election.

It asked Atiku to realise that the only lawful channel for challenging the result of an election is the court.

Any act capable of triggering a crisis will not be condoned, the government said.

The government said it was absurd that Atiku had hired a lobbying firm to convince the United States not to recognise the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari until the Supreme Court has ruled on the suit he filed. Atiku has denied this.

It said having lost by almost four million (4m) votes, it was  unfortunate that Atiku is seeking US recognition as the winner of the election.

To the government, it is unfortunate that Atiku is thinking of replicating the Venezuelan model in Nigeria.

The government made its position known at a briefing in Abuja by Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed, which was attended by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu.

Mohammed said: “As you must have noticed in recent times, posters bearing the picture of former Vice President and the presidential candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, with the inscription: ‘’THE PUKKA, H.E. ATIKU ABUBAKAR, THE REAL AND THE RIGHT’’, have surfaced across major streets in Abuja.

“The appearance of these posters coincide with the media report  that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has hired a US lobbying firm to convince the United States not to recognise the re-election of President Buhari until the Supreme Court has ruled on the suit by the PDP presidential candidate

“The posters and the hiring of U.S. lobbyists, the latest of such by the PDP candidate, have triggered questions about what Alhaji Abubakar is up to. Is he starting a fresh campaign after the elections have been won and lost?

”Has he rescinded his decision to challenge the results of the presidential election in court, perhaps after realising that the results he claimed to have obtained from the INEC back server are cooked? Is he now going for self-help? What really is Atiku’s motive?

“Gentlemen, we are aware of media reports that the PDP presidential candidate on Wednesday distanced himself from the posters that are circulating in Abuja. He also reportedly denied hiring U.S. lobbyists, claiming tongue-in-cheek that the APC fabricated the report.

“If the media reports are right, it means that the former Vice President has suddenly realised the grave implication of his actions, hence has decided to beat a quick retreat before it is too late.

“As a self-avowed democrat, he should realise that the only lawful channel for challenging the result of an election is through the courts. Resorting to self-help, as he seems to be doing now, is an act of desperation and the consequences are dire.”

The Federal Government described Atiku’s plot to replicate the Venezuelan model in Nigeria as sheer daydreaming.

This Photo Of The Media Reflected In Trump’s Eyes Is Wowing The Web

Associated Press photographer Pablo Martinez Monsiváis was just doing his job Wednesday when he took a picture of President Donald Trump at a press conference on the South Lawn of the White House.

It’s that picture, however, that has captured the attention of social media users this week with many describing it as beautiful.

Taken before Trump boarded Marine One, the photograph depicts Trump’s eyes in clear detail with an image of the media reflected back.

Monsiváis posted an edited version of the photo on his Twitter account.

The photograph has received lots of praise and somewhat mixed reactions on social media as expected anyway.

Some have pointed out the symbolic nature of the photograph, as it comes at a time when the president has repeatedly suggested that the media is the “enemy of the people.”

APC Senator Offers Saraki Another Wife

Kabir Marafa, senator representing Zamfara central, has offered Senate President Bukola Saraki another wife. He made the offer while thanking his colleagues for approving a N10 billion intervention fund for Zamfara State following the spate of insecurity in the state.

Speaking on the floor of senate on Thursday, the popular Zamfara Senator said there is room for another wife in Saraki’s house because its size “is grossly underutilised.”

He said, “I have a mounting order from my constituents to thank you for the efforts we all collectively put in addressing the plight of the people of Zamfara state.

“Mr President, I want to thank you specifically. A lady in my constituency said I should tell you specifically that she has never seen you hit the gavel the way you did yesterday and I should tell you that when you commence your sabbatical, that she has offered herself to marry you, if you so wish.

“I told her to wait until we see facts and figures in the 2019 budget. With respect and apology to Madam at home but from where I come, you are allowed up to four wives. So madam should please keep space because anytime I sit at home and look at the size of the house, I feel it is grossly underutilised.”
