APC Stops Talking Tough, Says It's Senators Can Now Consult PDP Senators

All Progressives Congress (APC) National Assembly members yesterday got the nod to negotiate with the opposition in their bid for principal positions in the Ninth Assembly.

It is democratic to do so, the party said in a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Lanre Issa-Onilu, who stressed that the party has nothing against its members seeking cooperation with other legislators as it is confident that they will not betray the party.

There has been reports of Senate Leader Ahmad Lawan, who has been adopted for Senate President, holding meetings with the PDP, but Issa-Onilu said that Lawan was adopted by the party for the position in the first place because of his ability to carry everyone along, which is needed for such a position.

He also said that the party will announce its zoning arrangement for National Assembly leadership.

The statement reads: “We are inundated with reports of our members in the National Assembly holding consultations with members of the opposition over the election of leaders into the Ninth National Assembly. Let me state that our party has no objection to such consultations.

“It is a normal democratic practice world over to stretch hands across the divides. And contrary to some media reports, the actions of our members do not contradict the party’s position. APC has a comfortable majority in both chambers. Therefore; we have the number to produce the leadership.

“But democracy recognises the importance of the opposition, especially when you do not have two-third, which would be required at some very critical situations. For us as a ruling party, we understand that a stable and peaceful National Assembly would enhance our capacity to deliver more for the people of Nigeria.

“So, the party is not averse to negotiation by Senator Ahmed Lawan and our other senators-elect working to fulfil the position taken by our party.

“It is important to note that one of the key considerations for adopting him as the party’s candidate for the Senate presidency is his ability to carry everyone along. On top of that, the party has confidence in him not to compromise the progressive ideology of APC. So, clearly, Senator Ahmed Lawan is capable of conducting his negotiations within the prism of APC’s objectives.”

On zoning and the leadership of the House of Representatives, Issa-Onilu assured Nigerians that the party will put to rest ongoing agitations and “will soon release the zoning arrangements for the principal positions of the incoming Ninth National Assembly.

“The party will also make its position clear in the coming days on the principal positions in the House of Representatives,” the party’s spokesman said.

He said that the nationwide consultations being championed by the Senate Leader and Leader of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila, who is seeking to become the Speaker of the Green Chamber, were in line with the party’s policy of inclusiveness.

According to him, national interest is guiding the ongoing rapprochement between APC’s candidates and members-elect from the opposition.

Issa-Onilu said: “It is just part of politics and in a democracy, consensus is a key element. To have a smooth sail in the National Assembly, you don’t go to the floor pretending that the opposition parties do not exist.

“Even if the opposition parties cannot defeat you, in the spirit of national interest, you must work with them. We want to run a government of inclusiveness, we need every party.

“We will support every effort by our candidates for principal offices in the Senate and the House of Representatives to carry elected members from the opposition along.

“As long as we can, we will keep our members-elect united to present common candidates to lead the National Assembly. The fact that we are saying that we can go it alone is not the same thing as saying that the opposition does not matter.

“We have the numbers to achieve our aim but we have to ensure comfort for the opposition too. Unlike in the past, what we are pushing before the 9th National Assembly is a national interest agenda.

“We want them to see our candidates within the prism of the national agenda we are pursuing.”

Lawan at the weekend had audience with more senators-elect from PDP to beg for their votes.

A senator-elect said: “Actually, Lawan met with us to seek our support. He tried to make a few clarifications which boosted our confidence in him. It is not a party affair at all. It is left to individual senator to decide who to vote for.”

Notorious Lagos Cultist On Rampage: 5 Killed, Arrests Made

Residents of Alasiya in Abraham Adesanya Estate area, in the Eti-Osa area of Lagos State, were thrown into panic on Sunday as a suspected clash by rival cults left five corpses on the streets.

The clash started around midnight, as two of the five corpses were beheaded.

It was gathered that one victim was shot dead, another was slaughtered and the last one was butchered to death. The police were able to recover four corpses because the family of one of the victims refused to release his remains.

A resident, Black Che, told The Punch that said he heard multiple gunshots around midnight.

The Enugu State indigene said, “Last night, when we were inside the factory around midnight, we heard gunshots. But when we came out this morning, we saw five corpses. The police evacuated four corpses but the last corpse was not released to them, because the family of the person who was killed prevented them from taking his corpse away.

“Two of the corpses that I saw were beheaded; another one was shot dead and his assailants slit his throat; another was slaughtered; and the last one was butchered. The corpses were dumped at different locations around the Alasiya bus stop.

“One dead body was by the road divider at General Paint; one was in front of the bus stop; another was in front of a school; one was not far from the Total filling station; while the last one was by the recycling area around the bus stop.”

A security guard, Uka Kalu, said when he heard the gunshots around midnight, he immediately closed the gate of the company he was hired to secure, adding that he was surprised to learn of the death of five people in the morning.

He said, “I was inside when I started hearing gunshots and the noise of people. I came out to observe what was going on. When I got outside, I asked the people I saw what was going on and what they told me was that some people who disembarked from a vehicle were the ones shouting. I immediately got inside and locked the gate.

“It was in the morning that we realised that the noise was in connection with the killing of five people, and when one of our workers visited the scene, he came back saying the sight was gory.”

A welder, Isiak Adebayo, while condemning the rate at which youths were killing themselves in the name of cultism, charged security agents to restore normalcy in the area.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said four corpses that were probably dumped in the area were recovered, adding that the command had commenced investigation into the matter.

“Four corpses were recovered from the scene of the incident and what we are suspecting is a cult supremacy fight. We have launched an investigation into the case,” Elkana said.

'Nnamdi Kanu Will Expose More On Atiku, Buhari'

The Indigenous People of Biafra on Sunday said its leader, Nnamdi Kanu would expose more about the nationality of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.

It also insisted that the person occupying the seat of Nigeria’s president was not the “real” President Muhammadu Buhari.

The All Progressives Congress had told the Presidential Elections Tribunal last week that Atiku was a citizen of Cameroon and therefore was not qualified to contest any election in Nigeria.

IPOB, in a statement made available to Punch in Awka, Anambra State  by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, said its leader would  soon exposé more on the two issues in a broadcast.

The group said, “To drive home this message, our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, will deliver a special address on Radio Biafra for yet another expose on the fraud called Nigeria and further clarification on the thorny issue of Atiku’s nationality.”

The group said, “With the ongoing events in Nigeria, it is now clear to all and sundry that any word uttered by our leader is the unquestionable truth backed up by irrefutable facts. Atiku’s nationality debate attests to this.”

The group’s statement read in part, “Every lecture on history, social policy, economy, politics and law is designed to liberate the poorly informed half-educated masses of Nigeria from the darkness and oppression of Fulani Caliphate misrule, illiteracy, broken education system, mediocrity and subjugation.

“Those who, over the years, derived joy in propagating the lies that Radio Biafra is about propaganda and hate speech are the ones today relying on it to get factual information on constitutional law in Nigeria.

“Senior Advocates of Nigeria now depend on Nnamdi Kanu to tutor them on constitutional law and the dysfunctional legal system of Nigeria.”

The group added, “Those that referred to IPOB as miscreants are now the same people quoting and referencing the speeches of our supreme leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, in their legal depositions.

“Nigerians will come to the inescapable realisation that Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari is dead and the impostor in Aso Rock is neither of Nigerian citizenship as Atiku nor birth, which both Jubril and Atiku are not.

“The Fulani Aso Rock cabal and their friends in mainstream media in Nigeria can seek to dismiss this fact but in the end, the truth must surely prevail.”

Dutch Doctor At Centre Of IVF Scandal Is Father To At Least 49 Children

A Dutch doctor at the centre of an IVF scandal fathered at least 49 children, DNA tests have shown.

Jan Karbaat, who died in 2017, used his own sperm instead of sperm from a chosen donor as his clinic in Rotterdam.

Defence for Children, an organisation representing parents and children born through his now-closed clinic, said DNA tests conducted yesterday confirmed 49 children in the case are direct descendants of Karbaat.

'The results confirm serious suspicions that Karbaat used his own sperm at his clinic,' Defence for Children added.

The controversial case became public after a Dutch court ruled in February that the results of Karbaat's DNA test should be made available to parents and children to conduct their own comparisons.

Before his death, aged 89, Karbaat reportedly admitted to having fathered about 60 children in his time at the discredited clinic which closed in 2009 amid reports of irregularities.

Karbaat later also admitted to mixing sperm from various donors and issuing fraudulent donor documentation, the Dutch daily newspaper NRC reported.

The group of suspected 'Karbaat children' dragged his family to court to force them to release Karbaat's DNA profile, which was kept locked in a safe.

The Karbaat family's lawyers had argued that their clients' right to privacy had to be respected.

'However, with the judges agreeing to the paternity test, the judge placed the children's rights above those of Karbaat and his family,' Defence for Children advisor Iara de Witte said.

Battle In Crisis Over Tinubu's Plan To Contest For President With Buhari's SGF?

Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), may not have bargained for the kind of bitter fight he is enmeshed in, following his support for Jibrilla Bindow, Governor of Adamawa State, in the recently concluded elections.

The SGF, SR gathered, is currently battling a intrigues weaved together to end his political career for daring to cross paths with pro-Buhari interest groups within the Adamawa political sphere in order to boost his prospects of becoming Bola Tinubu's running mate for the 2023 presidential election.

If nothing, it is explicit for now that his alleged succession pact with Bindow, with a due date in 2023, is now a mirage, owing to a synergy that forced Bindow out in a landmark governorship election loss after just a single term.

Historically, in Adamawa State, every governor has secured a second term in office, Bindow being the only exception.

In this fight, SGF Mustapha is the man in the eye of the storm, for aiding Bindow to pocket the All Progressives Congress (APC) structure and subsequently snatch the governorship ticket to the dismay of many chieftains.

Former Governor Murtala Nyako, former SGF Babachir Lawal, Former EFCC Chairman Nuhu Ribadu, Forma Lagos and Borno Military Governor Mohammed Buba Marwa, Dr. Mahmood Halilu Modi, senators Aziz Nyako and Mohammed Mo-Allahyidi are some of the notable names behind a strong synergy that sent Bindow packing in the last governorship election.

To these political Juggernauts, Bindow's first term was characterised by gross incapacity, as such they couldn't fathom why a man of Mustapha's pedigree would want to be associated with him.

They also blamed APC's poor outing in Adamawa in the last general elections to Bindow's abysmal performance and nonchalant attitude to state issues and party matters.

But the pro-Buhari groups' other grouse against Bindow dates back to President Muhammadu Buhari's 104 days of medical vacation in the United Kingdom (UK).

It was gathered that Bindow was one of those who lobbied to deputise for Professor Yemi Osinbajo, allegedly hoping that Buhari would be ferried back home in a body-bag.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, as a prominent Yoruba leader who wielded considerable influence on Buhari's government then, was conscripted to prevail on Osinbajo if the need arose.

Obasanjo, as gathered, agreed to the plan, seeing a sitting Vice President of Adamawa extraction would technically whittle down Atiku Abubakar's hold on Adamawa politics and probably discourage him from running in 2019. But all that was not to be, Buhari came back hale and hearty.

Babachir, like President Buhari, had taunted those who wished his principal dead at different fora. "In fact, some of them wished him dead, but I can assure you that by the grace of God, Buhari will outlive them,” he once said.

Now that Bindow is out of the way and the succession contract nullified naturally, Boss Mustapha, cashing in on his value as the most prominent northern Christian politician of APC stock, is aspiring to clinch a running mate ticket in a Bola Ahmed Tinubu presidential project. This explains how and why Buhari's henchmen have initiated the move to truncate the APC zoning formula.

In a move widely seen as testing the waters, Babachir recently came out to say "nothing in the law mandates the ceding of power” to Tinubu's southwest. Other steps to follow involve drafting the next cabinet with Buba Marwa or any other person, but not Mustapha as the SGF, all to be sure Mustapha is cut to size ahead of time.

There is also the plan to reorganize the Adamawa APC structure. Accordingly, all those alleged to have been hand-picked by Bindow and Mustapha in the last congresses would be weeded out.

The proponents of this reorganisation have predicted bleak future for the APC under its current handlers in Adamawa State. To them, the party's chances cannot be guaranteed in future outings, if its structures are left in the firm grip of Bindow and Mustapha.

According to SR, with Aisha Buhari, wife of the President, recently adding her voice against the Bindow-Mustapha tango, it is only a matter time before the SGF would be off the stage.

I Fear For The Future Of Nigeria In 2023 - Sultan Of Sokoto

The Sultan of Sokoto and President General Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) Sa’ad Abubakar, has disclosed that he fears for the future of Nigeria in 2023 as the signs are already there. The monarch who spoke during the weekend at the 2019 General Assembly of the Da’awah Coordination Council of Nigeria (DCCN) held at the Sultan Palace, Sokoto, expressed worry that Nigerians has become more divided politically ahead of the next general elections in 2023.

The Sultan of Sokoto added that the 2019 elections witnessed a very disturbing trend with religious leaders who ought to be neutral, openly pitching tent with candidates.

"If Nigeria has these troubles in 2019 then, I have my fears over 2023. The signs are already on ground. Brothers no longer talk to each other. Friends are now divided in a very terrible way because they have been insulting one another before the election. Neighbours now hate each other because they belong to different political parties.

“We that are religious leaders, have to be careful of what we tell our followers because most of them are not educated and will take whatever you say as true. I have been an observer of the election over the years and have never declared support for any candidate. As a religious leader, I have never asked Imams or Muslims preachers to preach against anybody or in support of any as well,” he asserted.

Falana Blows Hot: How Did We Lose $60bn Oil Money?

Femi Falana, human rights lawyer, has written a letter to Ibe Kachikwu, minister of state for petroleum resources, demanding information on the “loss of $60 billion oil revenue under the freedom of information (FOI) act.”

In the letter dated April 10, the human rights lawyer requested Kachikwu to provide details on how Nigeria lost $60 billion oil revenue from non-implementation of production sharing contract (PSC) terms between the federal government and international oil companies (IOCs).

Falana also disclosed that he had previously alerted the minister, who was then the group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, of the non-implementation of the PSC terms.

The PSC terms between government and IOCs clearly spell out the amount of money that the country receives in signature bonuses, taxes and royalties and how much oil or gas the companies must share with the government during production and contributes largely to government revenue.

Giving more reasons for his request, Falana said even Kachikwu himself had confirmed the huge oil revenue loss, blaming it on “public officials,” with a more recent confirmation made by the acting chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission.

The human rights lawyer gave the minister a seven-day ultimatum to provide the requested information, saying that he will be forced to seek a court order if Kachikwu fails to do so.

The letter sent to TheCable, read in part: “In my letter addressed to you in your capacity as the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), I called your attention to the refusal of the regulatory agencies in the Ministry of Petroleum Resources to enforce the Production Sharing Contracts signed with the International Oil Companies by the Federal government.

“In a public statement credited to you sometime in August 2017, you did disclose to the media that Nigeria had lost not less than $60 Billion due to the refusal of some public officials to implement the terms of the Production Sharing Contracts between the Federal Government and the International Oil Companies.

“In another public statement made on January 19, 2019 by the Acting Chairman of the Revenue, Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Mr. Shetima Bana confirmed the loss of oil revenue of $60 billion arising from the non-implementation of the said production sharing contracts.

“In view of the foregoing, I am compelled to request you to furnish me with information on the revenue of $60 billion which the Federal government has refused to collect from the International Oil Companies as at August 2017. As this request is made pursuant to section the provision of the Freedom of Information Act you are required to supply the requested information not later than 7 days from the date of the receipt of this letter.

“TAKE NOTICE that if you fail or refuse to accede to my request, I shall be compelled to apply to the Federal High Court to direct you to avail me with the information on the loss of the oil revenue of $60 billion.”

KACHIKWU RESPONDS
Responding to Falana, a letter signed by Oge Modie, chief of staff of the petroleum ministry, acknowledged receipt of the FOI request on April 11.

“On behalf of the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, this is to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 10th April, 2019 and received 11th April, 2019 on the above subject matter,” the letter read.

My Mum Has A HUGE Influence Over My Life, Adaeze Yobo Admits In New Interview

Oh well! Mum like Adaeze’s mom, lol. In this interview with The Sun, Adaeze speaks about her mom and how she practically made her dreams come true, and has been a huge influence on her. Read...

Please tell us about your mum.

My mum’s name is Abigail Igwe. She lives and works in Abuja. She’s a lawyer, a businesswoman and also has interest in politics. But ultimately, she’s a philanthropist. She has a foundation, De Zionist Elders Foundation, which she established five years ago before my sister and I joined her.
The foundation is so close to her heart. She is presently constructing a home for the elderly in Anambra State. She has loved to help old people. When she started she used to go to the suburb, to share relief materials to them.

You were a beauty queen. What role did your mum play in all that?

My mum literally pushed me. It was something that I had always wanted to do as a child but at some point after secondary school, during the transition from secondary school to the university, I spent one year at home and added weight and lost interest in my dream of becoming a beauty queen. My mum knowing that it was what I wanted to do from childhood saw the advert on TV and asked me to go for it. But I felt discouraged by the fact that I had added weight. My mum went ahead and got me a trainer and I started jogging every morning on the street in Abuja to lose weight. She motivated me back into my dream. She took me in the hand and was there for me all the way to my winning the crown. When I want to give up in the camp, when other girls were discussing who would win and all that, I would call my mum and she kept talking to me. She spoke words of encouragement every time I called her, saying that I would make it, that I was the best, and had what it would take to succeed. At a point, it was only my mum’s voice I was hearing all through the camping and during the contest till I won the pageant.

You look good and like good things. Did you take that from your mum?

Yes. My mum has a huge influence in every area of my life. My spiritual life, fashion sense and everything. She has been like my best friend. Growing up, it was just her that I knew. From the way she took care of herself, the hygiene, her obsession for washing of hands regularly, her hair and makeup. When I was younger, I even made fun of her about some of the things she did, in terms of fashion and hygiene, but now I have realised I’m doing all that without even knowing. I have taken to her fashion and beauty sense. I would say she has a great influence on that aspect of my life.

You married early, before 23, shortly after winning the MBGN pageant and completing your reign as queen. How did she feel?

I got married at 20. My mum’s concern was that I had to finish schooling. When I met my husband I told her immediately. When I got pregnant I found it difficult to tell her, thinking I had let her down but she got over it and supported me all through. I didn’t believe it would be that easy for her to support me knowing that I didn’t finish my school before I went into marriage and that was my mum’s ultimate dream for me. She wanted the best for me. In fact, she was the one that did the decorations and she danced and danced on my wedding day. She was so happy.

When you achieved her dream as per your education, how did she feel?

She also encouraged me to start my university education in Turkey after I had my first son. I was confused at first because of the language barrier but she kept insisting that I should find a school there where English is used to teach the students. She added that I would feel good, would be able to tackle challenges of the world more and also feel more confident as a graduate.

Which of her favourite dishes did you eat while growing up, and which you still love till today?

Growing up, the food that I liked a lot was her oha soup. It became my favourite soup. But oha soup wasn’t her favourite soup. She cooked it for us and I loved it. My mum favourite food is anything that has vegetable and fish.

Advice did she give you that you still hold on to?

She taught me to put God first in my life and that is what has kept me going in life. My spiritual life is my identity. Sometimes, when I pray, I thank God for that particular gift that my mum gave us. If that is the only thing she gives me, I’m set for life. The gift of teaching me to be prayerful is what I intend to give to my children because it’s a gift that money cannot buy. That gift, consciously or unconsciously, has been guiding me through life. I always come back to my spiritual life for answers, for direction and all that.

What aspect of your mum’s lifestyle do you admire most?

As a little child, my mum was always working. My mum is an achiever, even with her four children. She was pregnant when she was in Law School, and still remained focused. She ran for House of Representatives election at the age of 30 in Anambra State, and she won. But the demise of Abacha obstructed that. Back then, seeing her waking up every day, working hard for her campaign, as a wife and a mother, always moved me as a child. At the time, she was still with my father, not yet divorced.

I wanted to be a hardworking person like her. Even with all that she also maintains a humble spirit. My mum was also a Director in Anambra State Water Corporation. I’m a family person. My responsibility as a mother and wife is very important to me. Growing up, we were very close as siblings. That’s what my mum and dad taught us. My dad talked about family being together. I can’t have a conversation without talking about my husband and my children. My mum is very social but more homely.

I Have No House Outside Nigeria, Dangote Hints

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has declared that he has no personal house outside Nigeria.
The business mogul said this at the 2019 Mo Ibrahim Forum.

Dangote hinted that he avoids luxury things “because they distract and take time”.

He said: “I don’t have any holiday home anywhere. I don’t have a house anywhere but I know people who are working for me…they have houses in London.”

“But you see, a lot of people, even the younger ones, we need to be very careful because one of biggest issues with us as Africans is that we spend our projected incomes.

“Once you start doing business [and] it starts doing well, but rather than for you to invest more in the business, you start spending thinking that profit will continue to come.

“There are ups and downs in business so you need to be very focused.”

Asked of his opinion on areas young entrepreneurs should invest in, Dangote replied: “The sectors to focus on now are ICT and agriculture. These are the 2 promising sectors.”

Facebook, Instagram & Whatsapp Were Down For More Than Two Hours Today

Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp all experienced issues today for users worldwide. Facebook and Instagram were both inaccessible, with news feeds refusing to refresh and the main Facebook.com domain unavailable for more than two hours.

WhatsApp messages were also unable to be sent or received, and users of Facebook’s main services (Facebook owns Instagram and WhatsApp) headed to Twitter to share that they were having issues.

Messenger, Facebook’s chat service, was also down for more than two hours.

“Earlier today, some people may have experienced trouble connecting to the family of apps,” says a Facebook spokesperson in a statement to The Verge.

“The issue has since been resolved; we’re sorry for any inconvenience.”

Facebook’s issues come just a month after Facebook experienced its worst outage ever.
