You Do Not Need WAEC Certificate To Become President In Nigeria – Festus Keyamo

The director strategic communications of President Muhammadu Buhari, 2019 presidential campaign, (Official spokesperson), Festus Keyamo, SAN, Monday said that one does not need a WAEC certificate to become President in Nigeria.

Reeling out his reasons for saying so, Festus said that Section 318 of the 1999 Constitution defines “School Certificate or its equivalent” to mean primary 6 School Leaving Certificate plus the ability to just speak, write, understand and communicate in English language to the satisfaction of INEC. And No WAEC certificate is needed.

Festus equally moved forward to give other levels of qualifications to run for the office of President. According to him, if you have occupied the public office for a reasonable length of time, by the provisions of the constitution, you do not even need a WAEC certificate to become President of Nigeria.

His words, “By the definition of “School Certificate or its equivalent” in section 318 of the 1999 constitution, you don’t need a WAEC certificate to become President or Governor, but if you present a FORGED WAEC or other certificate to INEC for any office you will be disqualified.

“Forgery occurs when the supposed author of a document denies ever making it or denies its authenticity. WAEC has confirmed the authenticity of PMB’s certificate by issuing an attestation of it. Case closed. In #OsunCaseScenario WAEC has denied the authenticity. See the difference?

Tiger Woods Makes A Come Back, Wins Big After 11 Years

Tiger Woods has won the 83rd edition of The Masters Open at Augusta, scooping his first major title in eleven years. The American golfer sealed his first Major title since his 2008 US Open triumph, finishing on 13-under-par, one shot ahead of his compatriots, Dustin Johnson, Xander Schauffele and Brooks Koepka.

Tied on second with Tony Finau going into the third and final round which started earlier than scheduled on Sunday morning due to an incoming storm, Woods, who has fought off persistent back problems and had been written off in the lead-up to Augusta, carded a final day two-under-par 70 to come from behind and claim the much-coveted green jacket...

Wearing his trademark red shirt he reserves for the final day of events, and with the crowd cheering him all day, Woods, despite needing two attempts, putted the 18th hole to claim a hard-fought victory in which he took the outright lead only three holes to the end of the championship.

Playing in his 22nd Masters on the golf course where he started his professional career in 1995, 48-year-old Woods needed all his years of experience to putt for par on the ninth hole where overnight leader Molinari, and fellow Challenger, Finau, both bogeyed to hand Woods the advantage from which he never looked back.

The win is Tiger Woods’ fifth title at Augusta and remains second behind legendary Jack Nicklaus who won six titles at Augusta, while on 15 Majors, Woods also requires three titles to equal Nicklaus’ 18 career Major titles.

Northern Leaders Cry Out: Deadly Bandits Are Taking Over

Elders of the northern region under the auspices of Northern Elders Forum (NEF) have cried out that, the region is under threats. They lamented that, while the region still lives under horrendous Boko Haram threats, large swathes of territory in the north have effectively become bandit land.

Chairman and Convener of Northern Elders Forum, Prof. Ango Abdullahi stated this while addressing a press conference on behalf of forum in Zaria, Kaduna State.

The forum, therefore, demanded that, President Muhammadu Buhari demonstrate higher levels of concern and sensibility to the plight of traumatized citizens, especially in Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Benue, Niger, Plateau and Taraba.

According to Ango Abdullahi, “the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) is alarmed and its members saddened by the recent cataclysmic collapse of security, and the sanguinary and indeed colossal threat to life and property in many parts of Nigeria but more seriously in the North.

“Today, the North still lives under horrendous Boko Haram threats, a situation which has been aggravated by threats of banditry, kidnappings, armed robbery, marauding youth gangs, herders and farmers mini-wars, and seemingly overwhelmed or indifferent governments.

“Large swathes of territory in our region are now effectively bandit land. Agriculture, our pride and national economic comparative advantage, the greatest employer of labour and leading contributor to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product is in ruins as animal husbandry, and crops and roots farming is in the throes of war and damage.

“Our rural folk live in perpetual fear of attacks from sundry terrorist assailants without any reprieve. Our major highways and transportation systems are being abandoned as they have become death traps.

“We see in all these the cumulative effect of a region whose economy and people, especially the youth have been abandoned. A dangerous youth bulge is indeed a recipe for crime, violence and wars. We understand that poverty and underdevelopment can create a brutish and violent society.

“Nigeria has just emerged from a very challenging and harrowing set of elections. This experience should provide a strategic turning point in the manner that political leaders respond to our basic national challenges.

“We hereby demand that President Buhari demonstrates higher levels of concern and sensitivity to the plight of traumatized citizens in the country, especially in the states of Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Benue, Niger, Plateau, Taraba and virtually the entire North.

“We demand for decisive, comprehensive and fundamental governmental action against poverty, underdevelopment and insecurity.

“Above all, we demand that President Buhari shows leadership and compassion which are the reciprocal expectations of the Nigerian people from their President. Should the citizens of the most populous black and African country and blessed with bounteous human and material resources be running away from bandits and criminals and become entangled in a causative web of crime, poverty, misery and underdevelopment?

“Without justifying the emigration of our people to other lands, we now see how and why our young men and women seek escape to Europe across the Sahara Desert to pursue menial jobs and Perilous. We now painfully see how desperate Nigerians running away from home, become victims of xenophobic attacks in some countries.” Northern Elders lamented.

They, however, argued that, Nigeria has the resources to build a better nation and said that, as people of conscience, they will insist that such happens.

Police Nab Channels TV Report's Kidnappers

The police have arrested three suspects in connection with the kidnap of a Channels Television reporter, Mr Friday Okeregbe. The FPRO, Frank Mba, in a statement identified the suspects as Hanniel Patrick, 29, from Akwa Ibom; Abdulwahab Isah, 28; and Salisu Mohammed, 32, both from Kogi.

He stated that the police also recovered from the suspected kidnappers a
Locally-made revolver gun, three live AK-47 ammunition, a battle axe, phones and masks, with which they blindfold their victims. Mba added that efforts were being intensified to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.

He said, “In line with the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Adamu’s stated commitment to curb all forms of crimes and criminality, especially incidences of kidnapping and other violent crimes in the country, police operatives attached to the Operation Puff Adder, acting on intelligence report, on April 9, around 6.30am, arrested three notorious persons involved in the kidnap of the Channels Television’s member of staff, Mr Friday Okeregbe.

“Meanwhile, investigation reveals that Okeregbe was not originally the intended target of the vicious criminals. However, on that fateful day, March 22, 2019, around 7.45pm, he was kidnapped when the kidnappers saw him parking his vehicle at a location in Lugbe, Abuja.
“Investigation further revealed that the victim was taken to the kidnappers’ den somewhere in Karimo, Abuja, and kept incommunicado afterwards.”

Mba quoted Adamu as reassuring the general public that the police and other security agencies were doing everything within their power to tame the challenges of kidnapping and other heinous crimes across the country. He urged members of the public to always avail the police with useful information that would help in tackling insecurity and other forms of organised crimes.

Senator Arise Reacts To Atiku's Claim Of Defeating Buhari

A former member senator, Ayo Arise, on Sunday described the claim by the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, that he won the March 23 presidential election as “bogus and unverifiable.”

Arise, a former chieftain of the PDP who is now in the All Progressives Congress, described Atiku’s claim as “a ploy to confuse the judiciary in particular and Nigerians in general.”

The former lawmaker, who spoke in Ado Ekiti, said the PDP candidate’s claim was unreasonable.

He said, “For now, it is illegal for anyone to transmit results of elections from polling units directly to the centre. The chain of collation of results was from the units through the wards, local governments, states and to the headquarters. Unless Atiku is telling us that there is another method employed by INEC which violates the norm we are used to.

“Maybe there is somebody somewhere who is concocting figures for Atiku. The PDP flagbearer should tell us how he got his information, whether he officially applied for it through the instrumentality of the Freedom of Information Act. I think the man must have been ripped off or scammed.”

Arise advised the ruling APC to handle the matter with tact by adopting a scientific approach to puncture the claim. He said this could be achieved by seeking the services of credible Information and Communications Technology experts as defence witnesses.

The former lawmaker advised the party’s leaders to adopt a win-win approach on the election of leaders of the two chambers of the National Assembly.

He said, “Every member of the National Assembly is a potential leader, but we also have the rules and guidelines which confer privileges to some members based on seniority.

“The APC leadership must, therefore, ensure balancing in sharing key positions. It must engage members within its folds regularly.

“Above all, the issue of party discipline and supremacy must not be jettisoned or compromised. Any contender who will be stepping down for another based on party arrangement and persuasion, could be given committee of his or her choice.”

Mother Of Lady Killed By SARS In Lagos Cries Out

The family of Ada Ifeanyi, who was allegedly shot dead by some police officers attached to the Trinity Police Station on Akpiri Street, Olodi Apapa, Lagos, has demanded justice for her death.

The 20-year-old Ada was on Saturday 'shot dead' by some police officers, while she was returning from a club with her boyfriend, Emmanuel Akomafuwa.

It was gathered that Ada, Emmanuel and one of her friends were accosted by the police personnel on their way back home. Emmanuel refused to stop his car, because those who asked them to stop were not in uniform and could not be identified as policemen.

The cops, who were later identified as Inspector Adamu Usman, Sergeant Adeyeye Adeoye, Sergeant Kashim Tijani, Sergeant Lucky Akigbe and Sergeant Paul Adeoye, reportedly blocked the vehicle and opened fire on Ada and Emmanuel.

It was learnt that Ada was shot twice in her stomach by the officers, while Emmanuel was shot in the back of his head.

While Ada died on the spot, Emmanuel is currently battling for his life in hospital. Speaking with The Punch, Ada’s mother, Mercy John, said her daughter’s blood must not be shed in vain.

She said, “My daughter is no more because of the useless police we have in this country; they shot my daughter dead. I was called around 7am that my daughter had been shot and I said I was coming, because where I was far; and when I came, I was not allowed to see my daughter. I was told to wait until her father came. I was still not allowed to see her corpse until I argued that I couldn’t sit without seeing my daughter dead or alive. That was when I was allowed to see her.

“My daughter was not a criminal; the killers will pay dearly for this, because I can’t take it; I can’t stand it and I cannot allow it to go like that.

“The blood of that girl is crying for revenge, because she was just an innocent child that knew nothing. The blood of my daughter will not go just like that; I want justice for her; that is what the family wants. Those policemen need to be arrested, they need to go down.”
Mercy said she spoke with Ada last on Friday afternoon and she promised to spend the Easter with her.

However, the Lagos State Police Command said five of its personnel had been arrested in connection with Ada’s death, while one other had been declared wanted.

The Police PRO, Bala Elkana, said in a statement that the personnel were facing internal disciplinary actions at the command’s headquarters, adding that if found wanting, they would be prosecuted.

The president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ayuba Wabba, has said that states or employers of labour who refuse to remit money into the retirement benefit account of workers should be held for a criminal act.

The commission said while Zamfara, Kebbi, Ondo and Anambra states had also commenced the funding of the RSAs, they were not funding the accrued rights.
