We will sanction Tonto Dikeh, we do not encourage bad behavior- Board of Trustee, AGN

The Board of Trustee (BoT) of Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has said they will sanction Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh if she does not stop embarrassing them on social media. According to AGN, the actress behavior is becoming an embarrassment to the body.

Speaking to NewstimesAfrica, Prince Ifeanyi Dike, Chairman, Actors Guild of Nigeria, Board of Trustee, said: “Tonto Dikeh is exhibiting bad behavior that we will no longer condone. What she should realize is that every marriage has its own issue. No one’s marriage is perfect.

“Issues like that are private. It is very unbecoming of her to portray us in bad light. There are so many actors who have issues with their marriages without getting the public involved. Her actions does not speak well of the industry.

“We are not interested in her private matters; rather we are concerned about her attitude which is rubbing off negatively on other actresses.

“Actions like this portray the industry as having unserious ladies. That is why men are scared of marrying actresses.

“Thank God that we have good examples in the industry. If she is looking for sensation, she should look for something else to use.

“Honestly, the Board of Trustees is not happy with her and if she continues this way, we will sanction her. We do not encourage bad behavior.”

Army Raises Alarm: Foreign interests plotting to scuttle May 29 inauguration

The Nigerian army has raised the alarm over the “plot by some individuals to disrupt the May 29 inauguration.

In a statement on Saturday, Sagir Musa, army spokesman, said the unnamed persons are hobnobbing with foreigners to scuttle the country’s democratic process.

He said these individuals are also “determined to cause mischief and exacerbate the security situation” in Nigeria in particular and West African sub-region.

Musa said the army gathered that those involved are making concerted efforts to further induce Boko Haram insurgents and bandits with funds and other logistic supports.

The statement read: “Their body language and unguarded utterances seems to be in tandem with above and imply tacit support for the criminals. For example, credible source has shown that some individuals are hobnobbing with Boko Haram terrorists, while others are deliberately churning falsehood against the security agencies with a view to set the military against the people and the government.

“They are also demoralising troops and security agencies through false accusations and fake news. Therefore, it has become necessary to inform the public and warn such persons and groups to desist as the consequences of their actions would be calamitous to themselves and our great country.

“Some of these mischievous elements thought that we would not have a safe and successful general elections but were proved wrong, hence they want to derail the scheduled handing over later this month and to scuttle the democratic process in the country.”

He said the army remains loyal to Nigeria’s constitution and “we are determined more than ever before, to continue to uphold the constitution and defend the territorial integrity of this nation from both external and internal aggression.

“Nigeria is a sovereign country with clearly established judicial system, therefore all aggrieved persons and groups should take advantage of that and resolve differences amicably.”

YouTube star Austin Jones jailed after grooming teenage girls for explicit videos

YouTube star Austin Jones has been sent to jail for 10 years after asking a string of teenage girls to send him revealing videos.

The 26-year-old American internet celebrity had already been under fire as long ago as 2015 for contacting underage fans and recording videos of them as he instructed them how to twerk.

Allegations then increased in 2017 to suggest he had encouraged underage female fans to making s-xually explicit videos while he again gave instructions.

The blond haired singer, who had over half a million subscribers to his YouTube channel and over 33 million views before the channel was terminated, was arrested in June 2017.

In February this year, he pleaded guilty to a single count of "receipt of child pornography" and was sentenced to 10 years in jail on Friday.

CNN reports that during the course of the trial, Austin admitted to encouraging six underage girls to make pornographic videos of themselves - with the girls in question being as young as 14.

"Production and receipt of child pornography are extraordinarily serious offenses that threaten the safety of our children and communities," Assistant U.S. Attorney Katherine Neff Welsh said as the YouTube star was sentenced.

Mum starved son, 3, to death and hid his 'skeletal' body in toy box

A mum has been found guilty of starving her three-year-old son to death and hiding his body inside a toy chest.

A jury in Pima County, Arizona, found Raquel Barreras guilty on both charges of murder and child abuse, after she starved her son, Roman, and allowed no one to "play, talk, or feed him."

It is alleged Barrera and her husband, Martin, both from Tucson, starved Roman to death, and yesterday a jury found the mum-of-five guilty of creating a 'torture chamber' where her son was kept.

According to News 4 earlier in the trial Roman’s sister told the court when she asked her mum why Roman was left inside a plastic toy chest she replied “He was very very very bad.”

Roman's brother also testified and got very emotional as he said he opened the toy box in the backyard before they moved, and saw his little brother dead inside.

Another sister talked about how Barreras would not let her four other kids play with Roman and said “It was none of their business.”

According to an autopsy report, he died from starvation and neglect.

Two of Roman’s siblings would also sneak into the family's laundry room to feed their three-year-old brother crackers and said he looked very thin and knew something was wrong.

Prosecuting, Virginia Aspacher said Barreras treated Roman differently than her other children, keeping him isolated.

She said: “It took Roman a long time to die. It took him a long time to starve to death and she watched him do it...We cannot make these things better for Roman. What we can do is bring justice to Roman, the justice that Roman deserves.”

In opening statements, the defense pushed back on claims Barreras murdered her son, and said Roman was a “medically compromised” child.

Her lawyer said she was a drug addict who was struggling with poverty.

Meghan Markle's fans convinced she's having a girl after spotting 'clue' in Queen's car

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have said they don't know if their royal baby is a girl or a boy - but many of their fans don't believe them.

They've been on the lookout for any sort of clue or hint about the gender of the newest member of the family.

The latest 'sign' that the royal baby has already been born - even though the palace has said Meghan has "categorically" not given birth - was a slow-moving Bentley being escorted towards Windsor Castle.

Driver Tamoor Ali, who saw and filmed the escort, was originally convinced the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have welcomed a baby girl and that the motorcade was the couple on their way home from hospital.

However the Palace said this wasn't correct, and that the car was actually taking the Queen to present a service of the Royal Victorian Order at St George's Chapel in front of 1,200 people.

But before the excitement died down completely, people started to focus on what was inside the car.

Tamoor told the Sun: "Then we saw a vehicle that had pink paraphernalia at the back of the windscreen go past - it was going very slowly over speed bumps."

Some people believe that the pink items might be a sign she's having a little girl - even if she hasn't arrived yet.

But Meghan and Harry have outright said they didn't find out the gender of their baby, saying they wanted it to be a surprise.

Meghan is now believed to be a week overdue with her first royal baby , but the Duchess is apparently taking the whole thing in her stride.

The coupld are reportedly "happy and relaxed" as they wait to meet their little one .

Powerful Cyclone Fani kills almost 30 people in India

The strongest cyclone to hit India in five years killed at least 12 people in eastern Odisha state, before swinging north-eastwards into Bangladesh on Saturday where more than a million people have been moved to safety.

Having hit land, tropical cyclone Fani had lost some of its power and was downgraded to a 'Deep Depression' by the Indian Meteorological Department.

A storm surge still breached embankments to submerge dozens of villages on Bangladesh's low-lying coast, a disaster ministry official in Dhaka said.

About 1.2 million people living in the most vulnerable districts in Bangladesh had been moved to some 4,000 shelters. The storm destroyed several houses in the Noakhali district, where a two-year-old child was killed and about 30 people were injured, local official Tanmoy Das told Reuters.

Teacher who plotted with Filipino mother to s-xually abuse her daughters is jailed

A British music teacher who plotted to s-xually abuse girls as young as four in the Philippines has been jailed.

James Alexander, 42, was caught by the National Crime Agency after he sent money to known facilitators who had live-streamed child s-xual abuse from Iligan City, in Northern Mindanao.

He was arrested on June 30, 2018, at Manchester Airport as he flew into the UK from Thailand where he had lived since 2017.

Forensic analysis of his electronic devices showed Alexander, of Beeston, Leeds, sent at least 15 money transfers to abuse facilitators between August 2017 and June 2018.

It also showed that Alexander tried to arrange with abuse facilitators over Skype and WhatsApp to travel to the Philippines to abuse little girls himself.

Alexander admitted one count of arranging/facilitating the commission of a child sex offence; three counts of attempting to cause/incite a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity, and one count of making an indecent image of a child.

He was prosecuted under section 72 of the Sex Offences Act 2003, which allows British nationals to be prosecuted in the UK for offences committed abroad.

Twitter erupts as police transfer Abayomi Shogunle after controversial comments

The Nigeria Police Force has transferred the Head of Public Complaints Rapid Response Unit, Abayomi Shogunle, known for making controversial comments on Twitter. Shogunle, who is an Assistant Commissioner of Police, was transferred to Nkalagu, a town in Ebonyi State.

The police officer stirred controversy on Twitter a few days ago after saying that prostitution is a sin under the two main religions practised by residents of the Federal Capital Territory, thereby justifying the arrest and harassment of women, a comment which was criticised by Amnesty International.

His transfer has been trending on Twitter with #Nkalagu and #AbayomiShogunle.

A former Director-General, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Dr Joe Abah, mocked Shogunle for his transfer to a town in Ebonyi and not the capital.

Abah tweeted, “Ebonyi welcomes Yomi Shogunle to Nkalagu. Please note: Nobody will call you ‘Buoda Yomi’ here; you will not be in the state capital; you will be busy with serious issues and should not have time to mis-yarn on Twitter; small boys will call you ‘punish’, not police.”

Dr. Anita Mudiaga also described Shogunle’s transfer as a lesson to public officers who make unguarded statements.

“We might all rejoice at Yomi Shogunle’s transfer to Nkalagu(and it’s a small victory to be celebrated especially if it’ll make him shut up) but the truth is public officers need to know that they can lose their jobs when they make statements like that. He should have been fired,” she tweeted.

Aww! Governor Bello condoles with Melaye over mum’s death

Aww this is nice considering they are political enemies. Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has commiserated with the senator representing Kogi west senatorial district, Dino Melaye, over the death of his mother, Comfort, whose death was announced on Thursday.

In a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Onogwu Muhammed, Bello described the news of Melaye’s mother’s death as “a rude shock and great loss not only to Kogi but Nigeria in general, given her invaluable contributions to the cause of humanity.”

According to the governor, Mrs Melaye was a quintessential mother, devout Christian and community leader who devoted her lifetime to the service of God and humanity.

”Words are insufficient to condole one on a mother’s death, but I do urge you to take solace in the life that she lived. I have no doubt that mama’s impact and reach will continue to be felt through her offspring. On behalf of the great people of Kogi, my family and myself, I offer you our deep condolences,” he said.

AWW THIS IS BEAUTIFUL. HAVE YOU BEEN FOLLOWING THEIR STORIES? Lol

I’ve had my share of women, no time for them – Bolanle Ninalowo

Although he has played several roles in the Nigerian movie industry since he joined about four and a half years ago, most people still see Bolanle Ninalowo as a playboy probably due to some roles he portrayed earlier in his career.

In a chat with Saturday Beats, the actor was quick to say that it “is just part of the job”.

He said, “Some people may see me as a playboy but it is an act. I am human and I am a man; I have had my fair share of women and playing around but I can only speak of what I have done. This is who I am. What people think of me differs but when I think of myself, I think of the result of my life and what I do. The end always justifies the means. Women compliment me all the time that I am handsome but it does not go beyond that.”

Known for flaunting his wife on his social media pages, especially on Instagram, the actor stated that he was unapologetic about his actions, adding that he has the right to use his social media accounts as he pleases.

“I do not flaunt my wife on social media; my page shows who I am. I do not flaunt it. I celebrate what I have and who I am as a person. If I featured in a movie, I would share the poster of the movie online, likewise when I signed an endorsement deal. I communicate with the whole world through my page so why can I not talk about my wife or kids? They are mine, so I talk about them on my page. It is my page and I reserve the right to do whatever I want with it,” Ninalowo said.

Fondly referred to as Nino, the actor described his wife as the most supportive partner in the world. He said, “I started acting after I married my wife and she was okay with my decision. I was an accountant at some point in America before I came to Nigeria to become an actor. I have a very supportive wife and things are not always easy for everybody as there are ups and downs in life, however, I cannot talk about yesterday because it is in the past but all I can tell you is that my wife and I are doing very fine.

“She loves me and I love her as well. She is not based in Nigeria, luckily for me. I work every time and sometimes, I have to travel so I am very busy. I am not a saint but I am a very serious minded person. I work every day and have no time for women. I have had that share of my life. I thank God for grace. I am not saying that I am a perfect human being but I try to do the little that I can do.”

Video about Bobrisky was for posterity sake – Charles Anwurum

Comic actor, Charles Anwrum, recently took to his social media page to express his resentment against how some movie producers now feature the popular cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly called Bobrisky, in their movies.

Anwurum couldn’t hide his feeling as he described featuring the cross-dresser in movies as a shame to the industry. After he shared the video, Bobrisky replied him with a post on his Instagram page, in which he insulted the comic actor.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, Anwurum noted that he made that video to state his displeasure with the situation and for posterity sake.

“I don’t even want to make further statements about this issue. What I said was for posterity sake. When they started producing pornographic movies in Asaba, I was one of the people who cried out about it. I don’t want to make further statements about Bobrisky; I just aired my opinion about the movie industry. Our movie industry is turning into something else.

“People now want to make money anyhow because there isn’t much money in the industry anymore. The industry is not making money; instead of being paid for their services; they pay to render their services,” the actor said.

He further stated that it was disheartening that the movies being churned out by the Nigerian movie industry lack good storylines.

“There was a time I was watching a movie and the theme and plot of the movie were not properly organised. The scenes were not synchronised at all.  Our movies now lack good stories; the themes are disjointed. Our television stations air these movies without vetting them.

“All these sex scenes are not part of our culture. People are free to live their lives the way they want but they should bear this in mind – promoting cross-dressers will cause the next generation to buy into it. One day, a President will just approve homosexuality. That is what I am bothered about; I didn’t mean to insult anybody. That was a comic way of passing my message across. Anybody can go to hell if they want to,” he told Saturday Beats.

He further identified some of the implications of featuring a cross-dresser in movies, something he described as totally unacceptable.

“Featuring a cross-dresser in a movie can be a comic way of achieving a storyline. The viewers would understand that the individual is a man who is trying to play the role of deceit in the movie. Another instance is writing a script that preaches that being gay is a sin. These kinds of storylines are acceptable. However, it is not acceptable to feature someone who used to be a man and disfigured himself into a woman,” he said.

Usher Settles $20M Herpes Lawsuit out of school

Laura Helm, the woman who was suing Usher for $20 million dollars, filed to dismiss her lawsuit earlier this week. According to TMZ, Helm and the platinum-selling singer have “reached an amicable resolution.”

She claimed Usher — real name Usher Raymond IV — gave her herpes after they had a s-xual encounter a few years back. The dismissal was filed with prejudice, which means it can’t be refiled, something typically done when there’s been a financial settlement.

Helm initially sued Usher in 2017, claiming he had exposed her to the virus when they had unprotected sex. She was originally seeking $10 million but then raised it to $20 million for emotional harm and punitive damages.

No word on what kind of settlement was reached.

Helm is one of several women who have accused Usher of giving them the s-xually transmitted disease. Through his lawyers, Laura Wasser and Zia Modabber, Usher denied all of the accusations. In fact, he even dismissed claims they’d had s-xual contact in the first place.

But considering the outcome of Helm’s particular lawsuit, it’s safe to say there’s something he’s not telling the public.

We will investigate Francis Odega, say police

Comic actor, Francis Odega, was in the news early this week as he was seen in a viral video where he allegedly threw his wife and her sister out of his house. In the video, the actor threatened to stab his wife, adding that he didn’t care if he would be sent to jail after that.

Also, while his sister-in-law mentioned that he had once stabbed his wife, the actor simply confirmed it, stating that he would do it again.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, DSP Bala Elkana, reacted to the video, which he confirmed to have seen, saying the police would investigate the accused man.

“We have not received a complaint from anybody on that issue. We have watched the video and our operatives within that area are mandated to commence investigation on the issue immediately. I don’t want to preempt investigation.

“We have to investigate the man because the allegation is about him. We have to listen to the wife, daughter, and sister who were witnesses. Professionally we have the mandate as police to investigate. I am going to update you on the outcome of the investigation,” he told Saturday Beats.

City FM fires controversial OAP, Benny Ark

City FM has fired its controversial OAP, Benny Ark. According to sources Benny Ark was fired by the MD of the station, Adedoja Allen, allegedly because of his recent outburst and issues with his colleagues at work.

The OAP had called out Tiwa Savage few weeks ago saying all she does was to shout and doesn’t sing. Then few days later, he alleged that Kizz Daniel sang his viral song, “fcuk you” for Chidinma, alleging Chidinma sleeps around.

He was later forced to publicly apologise anyway. But that wasn’t enough for the radio station.

Lagos teacher flogs student till his right eye went blind

These are things I don’t understand. Please don’t beat my children! Chai people are frustrated! According to the student, the teacher beat him till he slumped, and he continued beating him despite being on the floor. Ha! I thank God for the life of his mother, thank God because she is a calm woman… One person might wave the world goodbye that day! After paying thousands of naira, who asked you to train him for me? Very nonsense story… I hope his family gets justice and that teacher banned forever near students. WICKED FRUSTRATED SOUL. The story…

For Daniel Agboola, a Senior Secondary School Two pupil of Camp David Academy, Ogba, Lagos State, Friday, March 29 is a date etched in his memory for life. It was the day his teacher, Mr. Oludare Olaleye, damaged his right eye in the process of caning him.

The day had begun like any other as Daniel and his classmates prepared to sit for an examination in the school’s hall. Olaleye, the supervisor for the exam, told the pupils to move out of the hall because the questions for the examination were not ready.

“As we moved out, he stood by the narrow door. As the last pupil to leave the hall, I had barely stepped out when he (Olaleye) called me back, saying that I hit him while I was rushing out of the hall,” Daniel recalled.
Convinced that he did not hit Olaleye, Daniel said he politely told him so, but that became his undoing.
“He did not allow me to say any other thing. He took his cane and started beating me,” he said.
Daniel recalled that as Olaleye continued to flog him, the cane landed on one his right eye and he collapsed.
He said: “I became weak. It was like I was dead. I could not say anything and did not remember anything. My head was empty. But he probably thought I was pretending, so he beat me the more, asking me to get up. I mustered the last energy in me to get up and I moved out of the hall while he shared the exam papers to my other classmates.
“It was when my classmates shouted that blood was coming out of my eyes that I went to the school’s accountant office to explain everything to her.
“The school sent for a doctor who happened to be one of the school’s parents. She said that nothing was wrong with the eye. Because the eye was swollen, she put ice block on it and said we should seek the advice of an eye specialist.
“The school accountant and I went to the nearby Blue Cross Hospital in Ogba, but we were told that no eye doctor was available and we were referred elsewhere opposite the hospital. On getting there, they too did not have an eye doctor around, so we were referred to another place in the same complex.

“The doctor, after testing the eye, said there was nothing wrong with it. He said it was a minor issue and recommended some eye drops we should buy. The doctor also referred us to Vision Plus, an eye hospital in Ikeja, to check the eye pressure.

“All the while we were moving around, blood was still coming out of my eye. It was swollen, the pain was much and I was not seeing anything with it. I covered the eye from the sun as we headed back to school.

“The accountant and Mr Olaleye later took me to Vision Plus where the eye pressure was checked and we were told to come back for the result the following Monday.

“We went back to the school and I later went home with the eye drops we had bought earlier. I was using the eye drops until the person who was applying them for me discovered that two of them had expired since October last year.”

Daniel added: “On Saturday (the day after the incident), the school took me to Eye Foundation where the eye was tested. The eye surgeon was not around and I was given some other eye drops and tablets.

“They said there was nothing wrong with the eye but that the blood could not flow. So they told us to come back the following Thursday.

“When we got there on Thursday for another round of tests, they still said that nothing was wrong with the eyes.

“It was when we went back there on Friday that we met the eye surgeon who after scan and tests said the eye has traumatic cataract and would need operation.

“He prescribed another eye drop for me because the eye pressure had not gone down. He said the normal eye pressure should be 16 but mine was 32.

“He said the operation could not be done immediately because the pressure of the eye must return to normal first.

“He said the operation would cost N1 million, but the school said the money was too much and that we should try other hospitals.

“The school also took me to Aricillia Catholic Hospital where they said the lens of my eye, which was supposed to be white, was covered with blood, hence other eye drops were prescribed for me.

“The doctor also said I had traumatic cataract and the operation would cost N1 million.”

Daniel said since the incident, he had not been able to go anywhere.

He said: “I have to sit in one place. I can’t look down; I have to always look straight. I could not even finish my exam.

“I can only see with my left eye. My right eye can no longer see anything. It is very blurred. I can’t read or move the shortest distance with the eye. Even if I hold a phone, I cannot see anything on it.”

Daniel’s mother, Hannah Agboola, blamed the school for not contacting the family immediately the incident occurred. She accused them of taking her son round hospitals without the knowledge of his family.

“What I know is that when something happens to a child, the father, mother or guardian should be first called to be notified and decide on what to be done to the child. I also know that students are not meant to be beaten in schools.”

She lamented that after the teacher beat her son and he fell down, the teacher kept beating him and did nothing to help the boy.

She said: “Daniel could not sleep the night the incident happened. He cried all through the night because he was in pains. His eye was dropping some liquids. It was like the eye wanted to remove from the socket. He was just shouting and rolling on the floor.

“Due to this, my blood pressure rose to over 250. Since the incident, I have not gone to work. I have not been to my shop. I have lost money taking care of Daniel.”

She recalled that two of the eye drops bought for her son were expired.

She said: “We discovered the Monday after the incident on April 1, while applying one of the eye drops given to us, that two of them were expired. One was dripping something like oil. We notified the school on the expired drops, but the school director told us he could not do more than he had done and that we should do whatever we wanted to do.

“But the school director later begged. While this was going on, we were called to come to the school; that officials from the state Ministry of Education were in the school. I went with my son and met two representatives from the ministry.

“The ministry told me they would handle the case; that it was already a government matter and that they would call me. But I have not heard anything from them till today.

“My son is not troublesome, I gave birth to him and I know him well. He has never had a problem with his eyes. Nobody in our family has eye problems. His father and I have sharp eyes.”

Mrs Agboola said that since her son’s eye pressure would not go down, she decided to get a chalet at the Mountain of Fire Ministries where she has been praying for her son.

She said: “The liquid drops have stopped but the eye is still swollen and my son cannot see with the eye. “I need help from Nigerians because this is not how I took my son to school. I want my son’s eyes back. How the operation would be done, the payment for the operation and how he would see again must be sorted out by the school.

When The Nation ‘s reporter visited the school, the Head of Schools, who would not disclose her name, said that the incident was an accident.

She said: “There was a case but it was an accident, and it is not as serious as some people have painted it. The state Ministry of Education is involved. The pupil has been well taken care of.

“There is no issue of cataract. We took him to Eye Foundation and we also took him to Aricilla Catholic Hospital. The outcome of all the hospitals we took him to was that there was no report of any serious damage to the eye. And from the medical report, there is no cause for alarm, and there is nothing like the teacher flogged him and he developed cataract. It is not possible.

“From our investigation, we discovered that the boy had eye problem before he came to the school. As a school, we are concerned to make sure that the boy is 100 per cent fit and there is no issue at all with him. The school has been responsible for all the bills.
