El-Rufai Hits Hard: APC Men Who Are Overambitious Must Be Dealt With By Buhari

The Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has blamed the internal crisis in the All Progressives Congress in the build-up to the 2019 general elections on the desperation of some members who are positioning themselves ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

El-Rufai, while regretting that the APC lost some states to the opposition on account of the inordinate ambitions of some members of the party, argued that it was wrong for the APC members to be scheming ahead of 2023, when President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term had not even taken off.

He said Buhari must be firm and deal decisively with those ambitious men.

El-Rufai spoke in Ikoyi, Lagos on Saturday during an interactive session with members of The Bridge Club, who are mainly businessmen and captains of industries.

He said, “There were a lot of internal crises in the APC; those crises had nothing to do with the 2019 elections; they were all about positioning for 2023. You know politicians can be very strategic; as illiterate as some of them can be, they are very strategic, they can think far ahead of you.

“So, those 2023 aspirations had been busy at work, creating pockets of support that had unintended consequences. I can mention a few states that we lost because of these kinds of aspirations. Some of the things led to unintended consequences and we paid for it. It is my view that President Muhammadu Buhari must be firm and decisive in dealing with these overambitious elements that will make his second term difficult from day one unless curtailed. The President has to be very decisive in dealing with such people.”

He argued that until the political elite, across party lines, had a conversation and agreed on the country’s ideology and goal, Nigeria would not make any progress.

“As you know, whether there is Brexit or not in the UK, there are certain questions that the elite in the UK have accepted as a given. Whether they belong to the Labour, Conservative or Social Democratic party, some things never change; the same with the Democrats and the Republicans in the US. Russia is an enemy, whoever is in power. Whoever is in power, China is a threat. This is what elite consensus is all about.

“Here in Nigeria, our elite have not even agreed on who are our friends; who are our enemies; what are the irreducible minimum that we all must agree upon that no matter what type or government or leader we have, we must for instance, agree that we must give every child in Nigeria free basic education. We must agree on that. Every human being in Nigeria is entitled to universal health care. We must agree on these things. Whoever is the President, whoever is the governor continues to pursue these goals. The nuances of how to achieve the goals may differ from party to party but the goals will remain. We have not had that conversation and I believe it is time we began to have it.”

Gov. Ganduje Moves To Remove Sanusi As Emir Of Kano?

The governor who alleged take bribe in Dollars, according to several videos, Abdullahi Ganduje, of Kano state, has relaunched moves to remove Muhammad Sanusi II as the emir of Kano.

On Monday, the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission reopened investigation into the expenditure of the state emirate council under Emir Sanusi.

According to The Cable, also at Monday’s plenary of the house of assembly, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, the speaker, read a letter from one Ibrahim Salisu and others, seeking the creation of new Kano emirates in Karaye, Bichi, Rano and Gaya.

“The governor is determined to remove the emir, and if this does not succeed, he will break the emirate into pieces to whittle down Sanusi’s power,” an official of the state government, who asked not to be named, told TheCable on Monday evening.

Ironically, Ganjude’s move to break the emirate into smaller units will mirror what Abiola Ajimobi, the outgoing governor of Oyo state, did to the olubadan of Ibadan, Saliu Adetunji, whose authority Ajimobi sought to decimate by approving 21 beaded kings for Ibadan. Ganjude and Ajimobi are in-laws.

FOREIGN TRIPS
Sanusi II’s problem with Ganduje is usually traced to his critical comments in 2017 on the award of contracts to Chinese companies by the state government and on the governor’s foreign trips.

Shortly after the comment, the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission alleged the misappropriation of N6billion by the Kano emirate council “without the approval of the state government”.

The probe was halted then but it has now been revived.

Sanusi II is believed to have opposed the re-election of Ganjude, who needed a disputed supplementary election to be returned to office in the March 2019 governorship election.

In a letter dated May 2, 2019 seen by TheCable, the state anti-graft commission invited one Isa Bayero to appear before it to shed more light on the payment vouchers from 2013 to 2017 in his name.

EMIRATE’S FUNDS
Other officers in the emirate council to be quizzed, according to TheCable sources, include Mohammad Sani Kwaru, the accountant, Mannir Sanusi, the chief of staff, Danburan Mujittafa and Falakin Kano.

The letter said the commission was inviting the staff over alleged violation of section 26 of its enabling law in the management of the emirate’s funds.

The letter also stated that the invitation was sequel to the power conferred to it under “section 9 and 15 of Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission Law 2008 (as amended).”

Sanusi II was appointed the 14th emir in 2014 after his suspension from office as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) by former president Goodluck Jonathan.

Ganduje was the deputy governor to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso when Sanusi II was appointed, but the former governor is no longer on good terms with his successor.

Kwankwaso supported his son-in-law, Abba Kabiru Yusuf, to challenge Ganduje, but the incumbent was returned with a score of 1,033,695 — a narrow difference of 8,982 votes.

Ganjude lost the Kano municipal heavily, leading to rumours that he would come after the emir after the election.

Sanusi II is the grandson of Muhammadu Sanusi I, the 11th emir of Kano who was deposed in 1963 after a disagreement with Ahmadu Bello, the sardauna of Sokoto and premier of northern region at the time.

Suicidal Woman Hired Assassin To Kill Her ...But He Falls In Love With Her Instead

The murder of a school teacher in Istanbul on April 21 turned out to be a planned scheme by the murder victim herself, with the culprit being a hit man she had hired to kill her.

Forty-one-year-old İlkay Sivaslı was found dead in her home in Istanbul's Kartal district and media outlets had initially reported that the suspected murderer Tanju D. was her ex-boyfriend and killed her after an argument over money.

However, after the capture of Tanju D. in the southern city of Adana, where he fled after the incident, the discovery of text and audio messages in his possession changed the course of investigation.

It turned out that Sivaslı was depressed after she broke up with her married boyfriend and found Tanju D. online while searching for a hit man to kill her as she wasn't able to commit suicide.

She paid TL 6,000 to her would-be killer, but Tanju D. fell in love with the teacher and couldn't bring himself to kill her, at least for a month. He also recorded every conversation he had with the woman on the phone and in person and some recordings Sivaslı can be heard telling him, "I am fed up with waiting. When will you kill me?" while in another recorded conversation, she is heard telling Tanju D. not to kill her while she is in the company of her friends.

According to Daily Sabah, Tanju D. finally brought himself to kill Sivaslı and tried to choke her to death at first but failed. He then fired a shot at the woman, ultimately killing her and fled the scene. The suspect has been arrested and a court date for a trial is yet to be scheduled.

Will Liverpool be able to defeat Barcelona tomorrow as Salah, Roberto Firmino miss match?

Liverpool forwards Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino will miss Tuesday's Champions League semi-final second leg with Barcelona through injury.

Salah left the pitch on a stretcher after an aerial collision with Newcastle keeper Martin Dubravka during Saturday's 3-2 win.

Manager Jurgen Klopp says concussion will keep Salah out, as Liverpool look to overhaul a 3-0 deficit at Anfield.

Firmino missed the win over Newcastle with a muscle injury.

"Two of the world's best strikers are not available tomorrow night and we have to score four goals," said Klopp.

"It doesn't make life easier but we will try for 90 minutes to celebrate the Champions League campaign to give it a proper finish."

Defender Virgil van Dijk and midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also both missed training on Monday.

Cause of Russia jet crash that killed 41 ‘revealed’

Passengers and crew on board a jet that was forced to make an emergency landing at a Moscow airport say it was struck by lightning moments before it crashed.

Reports of the strike came as survivors told how they escaped the Aeroflot jet which burst into flames on landing at Sheremetyevo airport on Sunday.

Forty-one of the 78 people on board were killed in the accident.

Investigators probing the cause of the crash have made no official comment on the claims it was hit by lightning.

Modern aircraft are built to withstand lightning strikes, and Russia's national carrier has said only that the plane returned to the airport for "technical reasons".

However passengers said the plane, which was heading for the northern Russian city of Murmansk, was struck just after take-off.

Some of the five crew members also said lightning appeared to be responsible for a loss of communication with air traffic control.

Seventy- five political parties pass Vote of Confidence in INEC Chairman

Seventy- five registered political parties in the country, on Monday passed a vote of confidence in the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu following what they described as successful completion of February 23 Presidential, National Assembly and March 9 Gubernatorial, State Houses of Assembly and Federal Capital Territory, FCT Area Council elections.

According to them, the 2019 general elections met the expectation of majority of Nigerians. Chairmen of the parties who spoke at a 2-day Roundtable on the evaluation of the last polls in Abuja, however blamed operatives of security agencies, particularly the military and the police for whatever shortcomings that may have been witnessed in the election, even as they called on President Muhammadu Buhari to as a matter of urgency, sign the Electoral Amendment bill into law as that would help save the country from the challenges associated with the current electoral law.

Obasanjo's Wife Cries Out: They Want To Kill Me & My Son For Supporting Buhari

The wife of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Mrs Taiwo Obasanjo has said that her life and that of her son Olujonwo is under threat due to their decision to support President Buhari in the last election.

Mrs Obasanjo said she was reliably told that her husband, who is not pleased with her decision to support Buhari, have sent the assassin to kill her and her son.

Speaking with Vanguard, she said reliable information at her disposal disclosed that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo have paid the assassins who are already trailing her to kill her and her son Olujonwo. Mrs Obasanjo said the assassins intend to kill her first and make it appear as an armed robbery operation.

According to her, the second phase of the plot is to kill her son, Olujonwo in another armed robbery attack.

She said: "I want the world to know that my life and that of my son, Olujonwo is under threat for supporting President Muhammadu Buhari in the last election.

"A very reliable source have informed me that ‘Baba’ Obasanjo has sent out assassins to kill me and my son because he is not happy that we supported Buhari to win the last election.

"They have been paid to kill us and make it look like an armed robbery attack. I am crying out now to let the whole world know who to blame if anything happens to me and my son.

"Since me and my son expressed our support for Buhari’s administration and his quest for reelection, Baba Obasanjo has not been happy with us. I am appealing to anyone who knows ‘Baba’ to please tell him not to kill me and my Son. It should not become a crime that must bring me and my Son death because we are supporting President Buhari.

“I am also appealing to the police and other security agencies to please come to our aid. This is a serious threat and the police should please help us. This is not imaginary or attention seeking or publicity stunt."
