Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo on Tuesday received a letter of recognition from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the establishment of three new universities in the state.
The universities are: University of Creative Technology, Omuma, Isiaku/Nkwerre University of Medical Sciences, Ogboko and University of Sciences and Technology Umuna.
The letter of recognition was issued following the submission of laws and other planning documents to the NUC for the new universities.
The letter which was signed by the Executive Secretary (ES) of the NUC, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, said the universities had been recognised as the 50th, 51st and 52nd state universities and the 172nd, 173rd and 174th universities respectively in the Nigerian University System with effect from May 7.

Baby Sussex is automatically a British citizen based on the Duke of Sussex's citizenship status and also due to being born in the UK.
But assuming Meghan did not voluntarily give up her own US citizenship when she married Harry, which she was no required to do by law, the baby will also be granted American citizenship himself.
The implication of being naturally-born citizen of the United States means Baby Sussex could one day run for office as US President.
However the US constitution states that any runner for the job must also have lived in the US for at least 14 years, as well as be over the age of 35.
In order for a child who was born abroad to a US citizen parent who is married to a non-US citizen, the citizen, who would be Meghan in this case, must have lived in the United States for at least five years, and two of those years must have been after the age of 14.

Paramedics who arrived to help a young man who had collapsed one afternoon were totally mystified.
Only 31 years old, he had, without any warning, started having seizures and violent headaches. He was also forgetting people’s names — and then he passed out.
After being taken to A&E at Coventry Hospital, he was quickly sent for a brain scan which solved the riddle: two pus-filled abscesses on the lining of his brain.
The cause? A piece of cotton bud found buried deep inside his left ear.
The bud had led to necrotising otitis externa, a bacterial infection that starts in the ear canal before spreading to the skull, where it eats through the bone.
Facial nerves can also be affected, causing a stroke-like droop. Also known as malignant otitis externa, it is usually seen in the elderly, and others with a compromised immune system. While rare, it can be fatal.
The unnamed man, whose case was detailed in the journal BMJ Case Reports in March, did not know how long the cotton bud tip had been there. But he told his doctors he’d suffered ‘intermittent left ear pain and hearing loss’ for the past five years.
The cotton tip had to be removed under anaesthetic. The patient made a full recovery — but only after eight weeks of intravenous antibiotics. ‘Most importantly,’ wrote his doctors, ‘he is no longer using cotton buds’.

The person who shared the bride-to-be's explanation along with a snap of her wearing the two rings, captioned their post: 'He couldn't decide so I just wear both. If you're gonna wear two engagement rings at least make them decent (sic)????'
It sparked a flurry of mean comments and reactions, with one suggesting her wearing two bands gave the impression she was 'engaged to two guys'.
Many failed to be impressed by either ring, and even more so her choice to wear the two of them on the same finger.
One Facebook user commented: 'I wouldn't wear either,' while another wrote: 'If you can't decide which one to wear, the correct answer is always neither!
'She can wear neither of those s****y rings and call it a day,' adding that the bride-to-be 'lacks any taste'.
Another reasoned: 'I get wearing them both but clearly the first one should be worn on a different finger. They look stupid worn together like that.'

The Controller-General of Prisons, Ja’afaru Ahmed, has approved the recommendation of Zone ‘C’ Disciplinary Committee for the dismissal of Prison Assistant 1, Umar Adamu, from the Nigerian Prisons Service for smuggling illicit drugs into the prison for prisoners.
Ahmed warned that any officer caught in such an ignoble act would be shown the way out of the service “as they have no business being in a character reformation agency.”
A statement in Abuja on Monday by the Prisons Service Public Relations Officer, DCP Francis Enobore, said Adamu’s dismissal was part of a concerted effort to maintain discipline and ensure that mal-adjusted inmates in prison custody were only handled by those with the required rectitude to do so.

At least, two thousand indigenes of Izzi local government area of Ebonyi state resident in Ekajiok, Ogoja local government area of Ebonyi state have been sacked from the area.
The Ebonyi indigenes resident in the area are mainly traders. Their houses and shops were allegedly set ablazed by the Ekajiok people.
The displaced persons include, men, women, pregnant women, nursing mothers, children and infants.
The people of Igbeagu community, Izzi local government area of Ebonyi state and their neighbouring Ukele Yala local government area of Cross River state have been at war over boundary matters with many killed and properties worth billions of naira destroyed.
The Adamawa State Command of the Nigeria Police has banned the use of motorcycles in all the 21 local government areas of the state.
The command said in a press statement Tuesday morning that the ban was informed by rising crime rate across the state.
The statement which was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state, SP Othman Abubakar, said, “This has become necessary because of the incessant use of such motorcycles in the commission of heinous crimes such as kidnapping, armed banditry, communal clashes and other criminal activities in the state.”
The statement added that the police would by the announcement of the ban go all out on aggressive patrol and arrest of defaulters.
A Magistrate Court in Mpape, Abuja will in in few minutes decide whether or not the police should allow Senator Ademola Adeleke travel abroad on medical grounds.
Magistrate Muhammed Shehu announced after taking arguments from lawyers to the police and Adeleke, that he will give ruling in the next 30 minutes.
Adeleke,dressed in blue native attire, was brought before the court by the police, in a white bus,around 9.30am.
When the case was called, Simon Lough (prosecution) applied that the charge filed against Adeleke be read, a request Adetosoye Adebiyi (for Adeleke) objected to on the grounds that there were two pending High Court’s orders, allowing the Senator to travel for medical attention and restraining the police from detaining the defendant for any reasons. Everyone is waiting for the court to resume and deliver its ruling.
The Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit has vowed sanctions for any commercial bank which allowed transactions from any local government account without monies first reaching the LG account.
In addition, the agency said no cash withdrawal exceeding N500,000 per day could be made from any local government account with effect from June 1,2019, noting that any other transaction must be done through valid cheques or electronic funds transfer.
