We will appeal judgement on Oyetola’s victory - PDP

The chairman, Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Soji Adagunodo, has said the party would appeal the judgement of the Appeal panel that upheld the victory of Mr. Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress in the last September election.

Adagunodo, in a telephone chat with Punch said the panel relied on a
technicality in giving its decision.

“Technicality was what Wole Olanipekun laid before the court. There was no argument about the decision of the Tribunal that gave us victory. We will upturn the judgement at the Supreme Court.

“It is democracy at play. We will study the Appeal Court judgment appropriately and challenge it at the supreme court,” Adagunodo said.

All you need to know about 29-year-old Calabar Yahoo Yahoo kingpin, Akpojivi Onoriode (photos)

A raid last weekend by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and police resulted in the arrest of suspected fraudsters, including one of the suspected kingpins, Akpojivi Onoriode, 29, a graduate of Fine and Applied Arts from the Delta State University, Abraka.

EFCC officials arrested Akpojivi, who claimed to be a shareholder of Eleme Petrochemical Company. His fate sent shockwave down the Internet underworld in the region.

Akpojivi, who goes by a number of sobriquets, including ‘Onos B’, ‘Mr. Blinks’, and ‘Mr. White’ because of his love for white cars, clothes, houses, etc, was described as one of the ‘most highly connected 419 operators’.

He claimed on his Instagram page to be the chief executive officer of companies and also a shareholder of ERPC, Port Harcourt.

But security operatives and sources at the EFCC said they were just façade for illegitimate businesses.

Those who knew him from his DELSU days told The Nation on the phone that he was a very bright student and a good painter.

But he made his mark as a blinker (wearer of flashy and expensive jewellery) during his undergraduate days.

“We did not expect that he could be found out in a faraway place like Calabar, where he has being living for years now,” a source told The Nation reporter.

The suspect, it was gathered, left Asaba, Delta State for Calabar and settled in the serene satellite town, a growing suburban settlement adjoining the University of Calabar shortly after he got married in 2014.

He lived there with his wife and two children before his arrest last Saturday.

“During his days in Abraka, he was very popular, along with some of his friends because of his expensive lifestyle and love for white clothes, cars and houses – his best friend (name withheld) was also popular, but his choice was red cars.

“To celebrate his engagement to his then girlfriend (now wife) in December 2014, he bought her a white Toyota Rav4 SUV.

“Last year, to commemorate the engagement, he bought his wife a N20million Mercedes Benz GLE and flaunted it on his Instagram page, just as he did the Toyota Corolla he bought for his mother,” the source said.

Akpojivi’s social media pages tell the story of wealth, taste for luxurious clothes, jewellery, white cars and houses, for himself and his wife, popularly called LePosh.

He, his wife and two daughters made regular vacation trips to exotic locations in Africa and the Middle East.

However, on Tuesday in Calabar, ‘Mr. White’s house, a white duplex located in a developing area of Calabar, was deserted, as only a guard was seen loitering in an uncompleted bungalow.

The gate was locked and it appeared no one was in, but the guard would not be drawn into discussion about the fate of the house owner.

A resident in the area, who preferred anonymity, said the suspect’s luxurious lifestyle had always piqued his curiosity.

“He was very quiet, but we suspected he was into something fraudulent. This is because of the kind of life we saw him living. But based on the kind of life he lived, it was not easy for him not to be noticed.

“I mean he is a very young man, in fact a boy, who owns such a big and fine house in an area considered a highbrow.

”He drives expensive cars. He has expensive items and so on. We wonder what kind of job he is doing that he has such money at such a young age.

“It was not really our business, so we did not go about probing. We only suspected that he was into this kind of business.

“Most times we ran into him at a popular hotel around here and this further fuelled our suspicion of him, because of the way he spent money. As I said, he is a quiet person.

“We know that other boys who we suspect do these kinds of business are always loud, pouring expensive drinks and making noise.

“But he is not like that. He is always calm and gentle. But he is always spending money freely.”

Police spokesperson Irene Ugbo said eight boys were arrested last week in the same area for alleged involvement in Internet fraud.

She said they got intelligence report on the activities of the suspected fraudsters and carried out a sting operation where the boys were arrested.

Ugbo said they were being profiled and investigations were ongoing, after which they would be arraigned.

Police kill 'bike man over N100 bribe'

Residents of Okota in Isolo local governmnet area have accused men of the Lagos state police command of killing Aliu Rafiu, a motocycle rider in the area.

Information show that Rafiu, was on his way to work in the early hours of Wednesday when he was killed for refusing to pay the police men a bribe of N100.

The video of the incident has since gone viral.  A resident, Adebayo Ishola, explained that only commercial tricycle riders were allowed to ply the road where the victim was found.

He explained that because commercial motorcyclists were banned from using the road, policemen usually extorted money from those who plied the road.

Ishola said Rafiu had been chased and caught by two policemen namely; Monday, and Ekene, as the former hit the victim with a baton on the head.

Ishola said: “This morning when we saw the body on the road, there was another motorcyclist at the scene. The motorcyclist said two policemen, Monday and Ekene, were responsible for the man’s death.

“Another person confirmed the presence of Monday at the scene. They were trying to extort money from the rider after he was apprehended. Monday used the butt of his gun to hit him and he fell. Blood started flowing from his head.

“Immediately they saw that the blood did not stop, they abandoned him and ran inside their station. I heard a motorist who drove behind the motorcyclist saying Monday and Ekene were the culprits”.

The man filming the video could be heard cursing the police as he announced the area where the incident happened.

Rafiu was confirmed dead at the Isolo General Hospital.

However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, in a statement, said the police had no hand in the death.

Bala said: “The attention of the Lagos State Police Command has been drawn to a video being circulated on the social media in respect of a commercial motorcyclist said to have been chased to his death by a police officer. The allegation is false and a complete misrepresentation of the facts.

Kim Kardashian welcomes former inmate Alice Johnson to family dinner

She successfully petitioned Donald Trump for a pardon for convicted drug trafficker Alice Johnson last year.

And in a trailer for Sunday's episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim Kardashian is seen welcoming the former prisoner to a family gathering at the home of her half-sister Kendall Jenner.

Johnson, who brought along her sisters Dolores and Patricia, was greeted at the door by Kim, 38, and husband Kanye West, 41, and then introduced to Kendall, Khloe, Kourtney and Kris.

In the trailer, Johnson is seen showing Kim how to make biscuits from scratch before sitting down for dinner with the reality TV clan.

While prepping the meal together in the kitchen, Kim tells Johnson: 'When I was pleading your case to the president, I was like, 'She has family that she can live with. And she has job offers'.'

Since her release last summer from an Alabama correctional facility where she was serving a lifer sentence, Johnson, 63, has been given a joint book and movie deal to tell her story.

She told momager Kris Jenner over dinner that she has been living in Arizona with her daughters who has eight-month-old twins.

But the proud dad is in The Hague today where he will mark the official launch of The Invictus Games The Hague 2020.

The Duke, who flew into the country on Thursday morning, was met by Princess Margriet and chairman of the games Mart de Kruif as he stepped out of the car in front of well wishers, some of whom had brought gifts.

Some excited students at the sports campus were heard shouting 'marry me Harry!' at the prince. Can you imagine! Smh

Photos: Woman assumed pregnant with twins gives birth to baby twice the size of a newborn

A woman many assumed was pregnant with twins gave birth to a "Hercules" baby twice the size of an average newborn.

Nicolina Newcome delivered 13lb 7oz Tobias without an epidural.

As well as tipping the scales at just under twice the average 7lb 6oz newborn, the New Zealander came out weighing the same as an 11 week old baby.

Annika Reid, Nicolina’s midwife at Waikato Hospital in Hamilton, told the Waikato Times : “He’s a Hercules baby. I don’t think that I’ll (deliver) another baby that size the normal way in my career… it’s pretty unreal.”

The midwife also expressed amazement that Tobias was born without a cesarean section.

Tobias's 33-year-old mum says she would have to go shopping again as all the pre-bought baby clothes wouldn't fit the hefty tot.

BBC fires radio host over 'racist' royal baby tweet

Disgraced Danny Baker has been fired from the BBC after he posted a royal baby tweet showing a picture of a monkey wearing a suit outside a hospital.

The BBC Radio 5 Live host sparked outrage after he uploaded an image of a couple holding hands with the animal, with the caption: 'Royal baby leaves hospital.'

He later removed the picture after he was hit by a huge backlash with users branding it 'racist' because of Meghan's heritage.

Baker posted the image just hours after Prince Harry and Meghan showed off baby Archie to the world at Windsor Castle yesterday.

This morning the broadcaster said he had been 'fired' in a post on Twitter as the outrage continued to mount.

He wrote: 'Just got fired from @bbcradio5live. It was red sauce, always.'

The BBC confirmed his tweet, and said in a statement: 'This was a serious error of judgment and goes against the values we as a station aim to embody.

It was obviously a mistake.

‘I have made a full apology. Yes of course I’ve made a full apology.

‘I put up silly pictures all the time. But that’s all. I think even you must realise that it was a mistake.

‘I’m shocked at my own foolishness.’

After he removed the image following the huge backlash against him, Baker wrote: 'Sorry my gag pic of the little fella in the posh outfit has whipped some up.

'Never occurred to me because, well, mind not diseased.

'Soon as those good enough to point out it's possible connotations got in touch, down it came. And that's it.

'Now stand by for sweary football tweets.'

Twitter users called on the BBC to sack him following the tweet, which came just hours after Prince Harry and Meghan revealed baby Archie to the world.

One wrote: 'Danny Baker posts an image comparing Archie - a Royal newborn with African heritage, to an APE.

'Danny Baker should be sacked this morning!!!'

Another wrote: 'RACIST RACIST RACIST Danny Baker should be given today to resign and clear his desk.

'If he is still there at 16.59 @bbc MUST FIRE HIM! I'm disgusted by the hate and racism inherent in his Tweet Unforgivable HE's not fit to be a broadcaster employed from the public purse.

Another said: 'Wow that didn't take long.

'Royal Baby is just two days old and he's already being trolled by Danny Baker who has compared him to a chimpanzee...and Baker claims he's not racist.'

R. Kelly pays ex-wife all outstanding child support

R. Kelly avoided another trip to the slammer ... by ponying up ALL of the back child support he owed to his ex-wife, Drea Kelly.

The disgraced singer appeared in court Wednesday in Cook County and forked over $62k. He currently is supposed to pay just over $20k per month to Drea. Wednesday's payment covers March, April and May.

Kelly's Crisis Manager, Darrell Johnson, tells TMZ that after paying the principal balance of the child support, his client has also put June, July, and August payments in an escrow account, and he "now looks forward to clearing his name in and being cleared of all charges in the near future."

Britney Spears gets restraining order against former manager

A judge has granted a restraining order against Britney Spears ex-manager. Lutfi must stay 200 yards away from the singer and her family and must not make any disparaging statements about her.

In court documents, Lutfi claims he hasn't made any direct contact with Britney since 2009. However, he says he recently contacted Lynne through phone calls and "non-confrontational" texts.

Lutfi also says he offered Lynne financial assistance if she decided she wanted to challenge the conservatorship in court, but insists he wasn't trying to bribe her.

In the docs, Lutfi says Britney disparaged him by making negative comments about him in a recent Instagram video.

Britney Spears' mental health is at risk and it's all because her ex-manager, Sam Lutfi -- with whom she has a dark past -- is harassing her, her parents, and stirring up her fans ... this according to new legal docs.

Britney's requesting protection from Lutfi -- she filed for a restraining order against him Tuesday in L.A. County Superior Court. According to the docs, Lutfi's been firing off texts to Britney's mother, Lynne Spears, and posting "disparaging and threatening comments" on social media -- which include calling for the public to "raise hell" to free Britney.

In docs seen, Britney's lawyers say Lutfi sent Lynne a text last week, calling her out for not getting involved in Britney's conservatorship and decisions about the singer's mental health treatment. In a completely bizarre move, they claim Lutfi offered Lynne $1,000 to "disrupt and take over" the conservatorship. Lynne refused the money.

Lutfi has also threatened to release "trunks" of old personal items of Brit's from when he was her manager in the early 2000s ... according to the docs. The Spears family has long blamed Lutfi for taking Brit down the bad path that ended with her 2008 mental breakdown.

Nigeria's Electoral Processes 'Confusing' -INEC Boss

Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, has described the nation’s current Electoral Act as problematic and confusing.

Yakubu spoke during the 12th National Delegates Conference of the Forum of State Independent Electoral Commissions of Nigeria held in Jos, Plateau State capital, on Wednesday.

He was represented by the commission’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye.

Yakubu said, “When nominations are hazy and issues go to the courts, court judgments, orders and pronouncements affect procurement – the printing of ballot papers and result sheets.

“It is important to put in place a legal regime that allows for the disposal of all pre-elections matters at least 60 days before the elections.

“Removing the names and logos of political parties and changing the names of parties’ candidates up until the eve of election, on account of court orders and pronouncements, is very problematic and confusing.

“This puts the electoral management body on edge, with a profound impact on the conduct of elections.”
