The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of a rising Nigerian musician, Afeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley and others in relation to alleged advanced fee fraud.
Acting Spokesman of the Commission, Mr Tony Orilade, made the confirmation to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday.
According to Orilade, he was arrested in Lagos in the early hours of Friday.
“Yes, he is with us. He is not the only person; he had some other persons also arrested alongside (him).
“They were arrested in relation to advance fee fraud, Internet-related cases and all of that.
The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Friday dismissed the suit filed by former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen challenging his suspension.
Onnoghen has gone to the Appeal Court to challenge his suspension by President Muhammadu Buhari, adding that due process was not followed.
The three-month bench led by Justice Stephen Adah, ruled that the CCT’s ex parte order breached the ex-CJN’s right to fairing hearing.
According to Adah, the court proceedings ought not to be conducted “in a shady or clandestine manouvre” as manner in which the ex parte order was obtained by the prosecution.
Adah struck out the matter on the grounds that the substantive matter had been concluded by the CCT which ended in the ex-CJN’s conviction on charges of false and non-declaration of assets.

The Lagos State Police Command said it had commenced investigation into the alleged assault of a music fan, identified only as Shoki, in Shitta community, in the Surulere Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The command spokesperson, Bala Elkana, noted that all those behind the assault would be arrested.
Punch Metro learnt that Shoki had made a video in which he asked some of his friends to stop listening to the music of hip pop artiste, Ayo Balogun, aka Wizkid, who grew up in the area.
He accused the singer of stinginess, adding that Wizkid only lavished money on some selected people.
The video, which trended on the Internet, showed Shoki, drumming support for a rival artiste, David Adeleke, aka Davido.
“Wizkid, you don’t help; but Davido helps. Because your dad lives in Surulere, you are not a Shitta boy; you are a bad boy, you are a foolish man,” Shoki said in pidgin English.
While some music fans who watched the clip online wondered the motive behind the video, others said he was only expressing an opinion.

The clip, also posted on the Internet, showed Shoki stripped to his shorts, as he called for help.
One Adewale Baruwa, aka Baruwa Eleniyan, taunted him and hit him with a stick.
Punch correspondent gathered that Baruwa had been arrested by the police for being the leader of the gang that assaulted Shoki.
“We have caught the boys; we are busy treating their fuck up; we will send video when we are done,” the chat read.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said while he could not confirm the arrest of Baruwa, he had seen some of the videos.
He said, “I have seen the videos and we have ordered an investigation into the matter.”
Pope Francis, on Thursday, tasked the Catholic bishops in Nigeria to continue to preach peace in order to keep the country united and progressive.

The Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday asked the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, to withdraw as a member of the five-man panel of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal.
In a petition received in the Court of Appeal’s President’s office in Abuja, on Thursday, the party alleged that as the chairman of the five-man panel, Bulkachuwa would likely be biased in the handling of the tribunal’s proceedings because of her ties to family members belonging to the All Progressives Congress.
The party, in the petition which was signed by its National Chairman, Uche Secondus, and its National Secretary, Umaru Tsauri, specifically said Bulkachuwa’s husband, Adamu Bulkachuwa, contested and won the Bauchi North Senatorial District election on the platform of the APC during the February 23, 2019 poll.
“We are reasoning that, armed with this golden rule of justice and fair hearing and given your direct intimacy, through your dear husband, with the APC, one of the parties in this election petition, Your Lordship, would have exercised your constitutional right and powers guardedly, judiciously and judicially, by excluding yourself from the panel of this honourable court’s sitting over this particular petition,” the party stated.
The party also complained that Bulkachuwa could have, by a comment she made during the inaugural sitting of the tribunal on Wednesday, prejudged its petition challenging the outcome of the February 23, 2019 presidential election.
It stated that Bulkachuwa’s claim in her speech to the effect that there would always be complaints no matter how an election was well-conducted, had “rocked” its confidence in the panel led by her.
It stated, “Furthermore, My Lord, in your address at the opening of the pre-hearing, you made some remarks that were both frightening and heartwarming. For instance, in your opening paragraph you said: ‘Elections are held in Nigeria every four years into elective positions. No matter how well the election is conducted, there are bound to be complaints…’
“This remark rocked our confidence in a panel led by Your Lordship to determine our fate in an election which could be one of the ones that were very well ‘conducted’ in Your Lordship’s opinion.
“The question then is how can a petitioner convince Your Lordship otherwise over an election, which in Your Lordship’s opinion, was very well ‘conducted’?”
The PDP and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, had jointly filed their petition before the tribunal to challenge the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari and his party, the APC, at the presidential poll which held on February 23, 2019.
The party’s petition is one of the four filed at the tribunal to challenge Buhari and APC’s victory at the poll.
The PDP said due to the intimacy Bulkachuwa had with APC through her husband and other family members, it was not expecting her to be part of the tribunal panel not to talk of her chairing it.
DJ Diablo was placed in a 5150 hold by authorities on Wednesday after a social media message he posted saying he had 'to end' it - and would 'be happier off dead' - alerted his friends to the critical situation.
Police sources told TMZ Thursday that they were alerted to the situation surrounding Diablo, whose real name is Sebastian Baldeon, after someone reported to them what he'd said on social media.
Authorities went to the home of the 23-year-old producer, placed him in handcuffs and transported him to a nearby police station, at which point officials evaluated him, according to the outlet.
While in handcuffs, an emotional Diablo took to social media to apologize to his fans for the scare.
Diablo, who has worked with musical artists including Lil Xan and Lil Pump, was not harmed when authorities made contact with him, the outlet reported.
The message Diablo posted on Wednesday read, ‘All I wanted to do in this one life is be happy and create, all I wanted to do is become the best person I could be and achieve a higher power of self being and help my friends.

Nigerians are groaning again in darkness after the national electricity grid suffered a major failure on Wednesday, seizing power supply to homes amidst scorching weather conditions.
The collapse has seen Nigeria’s electricity output dwindle to a meagre 230 megawatts or less for a population exceeding 180 million.
This was against 4,032 megawatts national average that was generated a day before on May 7.
Police have seized more than 1,000 guns from a mansion in California, where photographs and video show guns stacked on top of one another in a line that extends the length of several cars.
The guns were found on Wednesday in the upscale Holmby Hills neighbourhood, where law enforcement described a property resembling a “hoarder’s house” that kept 30 officers busy for 15 hours as all of the firearms were removed from the mansion.
The search was initiated by Los Angeles Police officers and agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), who served up a search warrant in the suspicion that someone was manufacturing or selling illegal firearms, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police arrested 57-year-old Girard Saenz at the house, which also had stockpiles of ammunition sitting around.
Mr Saenz, who has been accused of violating California laws on owning assault weapons and machine gun rifles.
State law prohibits the manufacture, distribution, transportation, importation, and sale of any assault rifle or .50 Browning Machine Gun rifles, except under certain rare circumstances.
Mr Sanez was released after his arrest on $50,000 bail, and details of that release were not immediately made public.
The Nigerian Medical Association on Thursday said the Abia State Government owed doctors and other health workers at the Abia State Teaching Hospital up to 13 months’ salaries, while members of the state Hospital Management Board had not been paid for 10 months.
The NMA President, Dr Francis Faduyile, said this in Abuja while reading the communique issued at the end of the 59th Annual General Conference and delegates’ meeting of the association which was held in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
Faduyile noted that the salary of Nigerian doctors was abysmally lower than what their counterparts were offered in other countries, stating that the NMA would appear at the next meeting of the Nigeria Governors Forum to discuss the issue with state governors.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) will hold a one day national protest in Abuja on Monday following the attack on its members who were on a peaceful protest.
Mr Ayuba Wabba, NLC president said this at the end of an emergency meeting of the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the NLC on Thursday in Abuja.
According to Wabba, the protest is against the action of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige who engaged thugs to disrupt workers’ peaceful protest on Wednesday.

A famous religious singer based in Kano, Sheriff Rabiu Baba, is dead. Baba died on Thursday in his Kano residence after a protracted illness.
