Amazon offers to pay employees $10k to quit their jobs

Amazon, which is racing to deliver packages faster, is turning to its employees with a proposition: Quit your job and we'll help you start a business delivering Amazon packages.

The offer, announced Monday, comes as Amazon seeks to speed up its shipping time from two days to one for its Prime members. The company sees the new incentive as a way to get more packages delivered to shoppers' doorsteps faster.

Amazon says it will cover up to $10,000 in startup costs for employees who are accepted into the program and leave their jobs. The company says it will also pay them three months' worth of their salary.

The offer is open to most part-time and full-time Amazon employees, including warehouse workers who pack and ship orders. Whole Foods employees are not eligible to receive the new incentives.

Saving up money to exit the country is now the Nigerian dream, Runtown writes on the state of the nation

Runtown in an article published in Guardian spoke about how the young in Nigeria now only dream of saving money and leaving the country.

He talks about police brutality and the fear of losing a loved one, and how the Government have not been able to do more.

The article 'As it appears, saving up enough money to exit the country has now become the Nigerian dream', credited to Run Town by the Guardian goes thus;

It’s been over two months since Nigeria’s general elections and the tension that is borne out of vigorous political campaigns and a tussle for power has died down.

Depending on who you ask, one vote at a time, the people have determined the fate of every candidate that vied for office and in a couple of weeks, newly-elected leaders will be sworn into office across the 36 states of Nigeria.

Imperative for incoming leaders, both elected and appointed, to note is that there is a hanging duty to deflate the rising tension that stems from police brutality and an urgent need to make Nigeria livable for the youth.

As it appears, saving up enough money to exit the country has now become the Nigerian dream.

It has been said that the country loses a worrisome number of doctors to the UK, US and Canada every year and what’s worse is that the Nigerian healthcare system is in dire need of doctors.

This harrowing loss of bright thinkers and skilled individuals transcends the medical world. I think about Tanitoluwa Adewunmi, the 10-year-old Nigerian boy who recently became a chess champion in the US after fleeing Nigeria with his parents over terrorist attacks by Boko Haram in the north. What would have been his fate had his parents not sought asylum in the US?

My heart has recently been replete with rumblings as a result of fear. Fear for my safety and perhaps more intense, the fear of losing a loved one to what has now become an unceasing demonstration of negligence by some officers of the Nigerian Police Force.

As a young Nigerian who very well fits the description of what members of the now controversial anti-cultism/robbery unit of the police force, SARS (known for perpetuating this menace) consider a target, I occasionally feel uneasy.

I am a player in the country’s entertainment sector and the nature of my job causes me to appear “unconventional”.

My hair is sometimes braided and sometimes blown out. Many times, I move around with a laptop, ride in a fancy car and yes, I own an iPhone which according to several victim/witness reports, makes me an instant suspect to the police.

Lucky me, I belong in the class of people who can sometimes afford special security. But it is puzzling that these days, we are pushed to sometimes hire men of the force to serve as security and protection against fellow officers.

Some of my colleagues have been victims of police intimidation and I can only imagine the blistering degree of brutal treatment that everyday Nigerians are subject to.

On days when I can’t afford special security, what becomes my fate? Do I have to commute by public transport, put away the devices that serve as tools for my everyday dealings or cut my hair in a bid to feel safe?

It is true that the country isn’t free of offenders. Agreeably, Internet-based crime is at an all-time high. But very needful to note is that legitimately conducted internet-based businesses are also at an all-time high.

Smartphones and laptops have become indispensable tools. As it is in other parts, young Nigerians are using the internet as a tool to amplify their creativity, access boundless meaningful information, champion game-changing ideas, scale up their start-ups and by extension, create jobs.

Given the reality of today’s digital-driven world, law enforcement agencies must begin to deploy intelligence-driven tactics to carry out just and effective policing. Criminal detection should not be conducted solely based on a person’s appearance.

Innocent young Nigerians should not be harassed, brutalized or worse, murdered over unimaginable reasons like owning a fancy smartphone or wearing an exotic hair-do.

I have had series of meditations over the recent killings of innocent young Nigerians like Kolade Johnson and the guiltless young lady, Ada Ifeanyi whose lives were cut short by men of the force to the ludicrous term, “accidental discharge”.

A number of peaceful protests have been held and an array of anti-police-brutality campaigns have been launched across social media.

Promises to restructure the police force have been made – but our reality suggests that no sort of reformation has taken place.

I manage to tell myself every day that the activities around the recently-concluded general elections is perhaps responsible for swaying the attention of the government because her silence amid the outcry of Nigerians has been very loud.

The people are being pushed to the wall and choked against it. There is an urgent need to curb this menace before we find ourselves in an avoidable national catastrophe.

Growing up, we were told that the police is our friend but as the years go by, this promise has become more and more far fetched. Although my spirit is enraged, my message isn’t that of outrage, it is one of faith. This is not an easy call, but I admonish everyone to choose hope because I know that the alternative is one that will leave us all in disarray.

In truth, my faith is shaky, but I look forward to a time when the sight of an armed officer will no longer inspire fear. A time when Nigeria will no longer lose its human assets and forward thinkers to other countries as a result of low pay, lack of infrastructure and general neglect.

A time when elected leaders will uphold the integrity and deploy empathy.

Tyra Banks shares racy photos from her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition cover

Captioning one of the photos on instagram, she wrote:

''I gotta be real with you and admit that this is one of my favorite photos that I took for @si_swimsuit. I think it’s because it harkens back to a time in fashion right before my prime. The 1980s. That era of modeling was all about swimsuits that cut very high up on the leg - so high it almost reached their armpits - ha! And I can remember looking at Sports Illustrated swimsuit shoots when I was still a youngin’ and thinking, wow, that’s sooooo cool! I never thought that I would be bold enough to wear something like this and it’s crazy because this was the first shot that we did on the very first day at the crack of dawn in the morning. But I was ready. Ready do something different. Ready to do something DARING. Ready to pay homage to the supermodels of the 80s who worked their asses off to lay the foundation for me and future generations to soar!''

Sanusi resigns over installation of new emirs in Kano

A District Head of Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano, Haruna Sanusi, has resigned his appointment less than 48 hours after the installation of four new emirs in the state.

Sanusi’s resignation on Monday was in reaction to the installation of heads of new emirates by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and his loyalty to the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi.

According to Daily Nigerian, the traditional leader cited “health ground and recent changes in the emirate system” as reason for his resignation.

The state now has five emirates: Kano, Rano, Gaya, Karaye and Bichi. All Emirs would have equal powers and are to be on same first class status as Sanusi.

Florida man who raised over $22m on GoFundMe in the “We The People Will Build the Wall” diverts cash?

Well the alleged news is spreading fast and Jon Cooper even helped in spread the link. Yes, we found it on his page first! Lol. Here’s the report by the way…

A source close to the Florida man who raised over $22 million on GoFundMe in the “We The People Will Build the Wall” campaign just revealed today in their opinion money may be diverted to pay for a ‘million dollar’ yacht and high-flying lifestyle.

This article draws on the use of an anonymous source whose identity is being protected because they stepped forward to expose what they believe is a wrong-doing or possibly criminal fraud by the Wall GoFundMe campaign that received over 300,000 individual donations.***

That source is a known activist that is pro-Trump and has gone on Fox News for his bipartisan cause. The source told The Stern Facts that they “ironically” know Brian Kolfage, who built that Wall Go Fund Me page.

According to the source, Brian Kolfage personally confided that was “broke” last year after his “Right Wing News” empire—which the source was told was fake, but he never read—collapsed and Facebook “deplatformed” him.

That anonymous source shared an Instagram post highlighting Kolfage’s recent purchase of a fine seagoing vessel which they believe is “close to a million dollars.”

After Kolfage commented to this story, the source said, “Whether he ordered it last year with the year before is irrelevant it’s still nearly a million dollar boat. Those new toys are very expensive as is flying private. Where did he get the money if his business was destroyed by Facebook? ”

“When he arrived we will all try to act our best so that we don’t piss off man from head office, he was so convincing because he was so confident and even colleagues from other KFC’s knows him,” KFC staffer told Xpouzar, a South African website.

“When he comes in he rushes to the kitchen and check everything taking notes and then ask for samples of whatever he wants. He probably worked for KFC before because he knows everything.”

Mel B's daughter Phoenix tragically blamed herself for mum's abuse

Mel B's daughter Phoenix has claimed she feels to blame for her mum's abuse. The Spice Girl appeared on Lorraine on Monday where she discussed her recent diagnosis with post-traumatic stress disorder following the breakdown of her 10-year abusive marriage with Stephen Belfonte.

Speaking to Lorraine Kelly, the 43-year-old candidly opened up about her struggle.

However, she was surprised to be shown a touching clip from her daughter Phoenix, 20, in which she spoke about supporting her mother through it all.

Phoenix said: "It was pretty hard watching my mum got through that and being in that situation with everything that went down in my family. You know we grow up pretty fast."

She heartbreakingly added: "Every kid going through a traumatic experience would blame themselves because they feel somewhat responsible, because that’s your mum, that’s your family and you only get one.

"So when you’re trying to do everything in your power to help them, and you can’t, and you’re helpless you’re like, 'damn, this is partly my fault'.

"But it’s never the kid’s fault. It wasn’t easy but I had my family and I have stayed pretty strong. Having my mum as Scary Spice, Mel B, you can’t be a wimp."

Mel's appearance comes as Lorraine is launching a Shine A Light campaign, to mark Mental Health Awareness Week.

Gushing over her mother's strength in a VT that left Mel close to tears, Phoenix added: "My mum is such an independent woman, it shocks me.

"She can just be amazing on TV but be so nervous and you wouldn’t even think she was nervous.

"She is just a natural. She is a good mum and a good friend. I love you and you are doing great."
