Activities grounded at Nigerian ports as maritime workers commence strike

Maritime activities at all ports in Nigeria have been grounded following the commencement of a nationwide strike by the Maritime Workers Union (MUN).

The union announced that members will commence on an indefinite strike over unpaid wages to dock workers from Wednesday, July 3rd.

The strike followed the expiration of the 14-day ultimatum issued to the federal government to compel the international oil companies to pay over one-year outstanding wages to dock workers, amongst other issues.

The union asked the Federal Ministry of Transportation to ensure that all outstanding wages are paid and all other related issues addressed within two weeks.

Mr Abdul-Waheed Adeyanju, the President-General of MWUN made this known in a statement issued in Lagos.

According to him, the leadership of the union has directed that members of the union shall withdraw services throughout the nation’s seaports effective from 06.00 hours on Wednesday, July 3, 2019.

Adeyanju said that the two-week notice issued on this subject lapsed on Friday, June 28, saying that there was no indication that the issue was being addressed.

He said that the union had given the International Oil Companies (IOCs) two weeks’ notice concerning the matter.

Senator who assaulted a woman at Abuja sex toy shop says he will be speaking today

Senator Elisha Ishaku Abbo from Adamawa state, who was caught in a viral video assaulting a woman and threatening to arrest another one, has told Channels TV that he would release an official statement on Wednesday (today).

He claimed the video in circulation has been edited and does not reflect what actually happened in May.

The assault, which was first reported by Premium Times, has sparked outrage with many Nigerians calling for his prosecution and urging the Senate to also discipline him.

“We will be releasing a statement maybe tomorrow afternoon(today Wednesday),” he said, adding that the incident happened before he became a Senator.

He claimed that the roughly 10-minute video was incomplete, and has left out the aspect of his sister, who was first assaulted at the shop.

“We will soon release an official statement to the viral video which happened before I became a senator where my younger sister was beaten to a pulp in a shop and I was called upon there where I had to call an ambulance and a police to come to the scene and it got out of hand I was also assaulted.”

“It is an old video, but we will soon release a statement to that effect.

“It was my sister that was at the store and she was assaulted; in fact, she fainted in the shop but they compressed the video and cut that part out of it.

“They took her out to resuscitate her. The one standing with a cap is a doctor, the doctor had to come to give her life. My sister is not in the video, it was completely cropped out of it.”

Senator Abbo said he would be demanding the release of the full recording.

“This is a political season and now I am now a politician, before I was not a politician but now the reality of the fact is that I am now a politician and politicians are not people who are liked, they exhume things of 20 years and they hang it on their neck now,” he said.

“As I said before we will release a robust response to everything, and we will also ask for the entire video to be released since they have the video. We will seat and discuss about the video. Just to be clear that video was taken long before now and it was released just as this point.”

Omoni Oboli weighs in Busola Dakolo’s r*pe allegation

Actress Omoni Oboli is the latest celebrity to weigh in the r-pe allegation levelled against COZA pastor, Biodun Fatoyinbo, by wife of singer Timi Dakolo. Omoni said she stands with Busola but that were some inconsistencies in her claims. In a lengthy post, she wrote;

‘I don’t know where to start concerning the story that’s still unfolding as I write.

The Bible warns us to “be quick to hear, be slow to speak, and be slow to wrath”, and going by my personal experience of seeing how quickly many took sides without first getting all the facts, weighing it against the character of all the parties involved, given our antecedents, and then drawing conclusions from evidence and an objective comparative analysis of the accounts, rather than from emotions, envy, the thrill of seeing strife, I have waited to digest the whole matter first.

What’s her motive for speaking out? Was it just to spite the pastor in question? Was it to destroy his reputation, or gain some financial advantage? Was it to build followership through the scandal that would surely come, not knowing that the pendulum could swing in either direction, for or against her?

What exactly would spur a wife of a reputable and beloved entertainer, a mother, a business woman, with a beautiful life, coveted by many, to come out to make this kind of accusation?

Given her antecedent of being a calm, ‘dramaless’ queen (unless Timi says otherwise), with no history of seeking attention or being overly dramatic (at least not publicly), how did she get to this point of going public at such a time as this simply to make ‘spurious’ accusations against a ‘man of god’, as some have said in a bid to sound ‘objective’? I listened to the story, and because I know her husband, and his personality, I restrained myself from trying to weigh in based on the emotions that came flooding in, but here’s the thing, there was some incoherency in some of the claims, not because I believe she lied about them, but in my opinion was born out of the truthfulness of the real account.

Why do I say that? Because unless you planned your own rape, the accounts are expected to sound incredible and spurious, and I suspect that’s why we don’t have so many convictions in many rape cases. Is there a manual, or rapist playbook that’s being distributed to all would-be rape victims (aka all women, and some boys and men) that I missed that gives point by point descriptions...’

Chief Idusere, who denied conniving with others to denigrate the palace using various social media platforms, agreed to swear any oath on any altar in the palace. He was heard explaining how he wanted to form the Benin Royal Army since the sect he belonged to is the last line of defence.

The imposter was later seen on his pants and swearing an oath after a cock was slaughtered.
