In a major onslaught against rapists, operatives of the Lagos State police command have arrested a 68-year old man who allegedly raped his daughter and friends.
According to the Lagos State police spokesman, Bala Elkana, who confirmed the arrest, “on June 27, at about 2:00p.m. the victim (name withheld) reported a case of defilement at Imota Police Station against her father, one Yisah Showunmi, 68.
The survivor alleged that her father has been having s-xual intercourse with her for the past three years. She further alleged that when her two friends (names withheld) ages 15 and 16 came to stay in their house, her father also had s-xual intercourse with them. She further noted that the last incident occurred on June 23. The suspect, however, confessed to the crime.
Some hoodlums have attacked the St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Aguleri, in the Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Southern City News gathered that the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday.
A source, who pleaded anonymity, told a Punch correspondent that the bandits got into the church compound around 3am and unleashed terror on some of the residents.
The source said, “Information has it that the hoodlums neither came to steal nor to dispossess the residents of their belongings, but their mission was to capture and kill the resident priest, whom they couldn’t get due to their inability to find their way to his apartment upstairs.
“They had placed a ladder on the wall of the one-storey building to achieve their set target. The church teacher (catechist), Christopher Chukwu, who had come out in the dead of the night to ease himself, saw strange torchlight on the church premises.
“He (Chukwu) proceeded to the direction of the light to ascertain what it was only for the hoodlums to pounce on him, dealing him several machete blows.
“His cry for help alerted the Parish Priest, Akachukwu Ikedilo, and the gardener, Matthew Nwude.
The gardener suffered the same fate as the catechist in the hands of the hoodlums.”
Speaking with journalists, Rev. Ikedilo described the incident as horrifying.
“The miscreants attacked them with machetes and axes. The church teacher and gardener were
inflicted with severe injuries and left in a pool of their own blood,” he stated.
The President-General of the community, Hipo Onwuegbuke, said he got a distress call around 3.45am from someone who lived close to the church that the place was under siege.
“I immediately alerted the police and local vigilantes, who went to the church premises. Unfortunately, the miscreants had escaped through a neighbouring community,” Onwuegbuke stated.
“The man is still in hospital receiving treatment as we speak now. We have gone to the police and made statements, and the bishop of the diocese knows about the development.”
He disagreed with a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed, that the incident was a case of armed robbery.
Mohammed had earlier said in a statement issued after the incident that the intruders were on an armed robbery operation.
No fewer than six people were killed on Saturday night at Dan Sabau in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State as gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked the town.
The spokesman for the Katsina State Police Command, Gambo Isah, has confirmed the development but gave no details.
Sources said the gunmen caught residents unawares as many were preparing to go to bed when they struck. It was learnt that the victims were buried the following day -- Sunday.
Men of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a pastor, Pope Paul, for allegedly raping and impregnating a 15-year-old girl at his place of residence in the Igando area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, in a statement on Sunday, said the mother of the victim discovered that her daughter was pregnant after she brought her to live with the suspect in Lagos.
He stated that the victim, during interrogation, said the suspect was responsible for the pregnancy, adding that he started having sexual intercourse with her in January 2018.
Elkana said, “On Tuesday, July 2, 2019, around 3pm, the mother of the victim (name withheld), from Akure, Ondo State, reported at the Igando Police Station against one Pastor Pope Paul of No. 10/11 Aminu Street, Ishuti Road, Egan-Igando.
The complainant alleged that sometime in August 2017, her daughter (name withheld) was brought to Lagos to live with the suspect and his wife.
“She further stated that she discovered that her daughter was pregnant sometime in June 2018, and that when she interrogated her, she mentioned the suspect as being responsible for the pregnancy. The victim revealed in her statement that the suspect started having sexual intercourse with her in January 2018, and got her pregnant. She stated further that she gave birth to a baby girl in April 2019. The suspect has been charged to court.”
Modele, the wife of the embattled founder of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, Biodun Fatoyinbo, has declared that her husband remains the father of the church.
Fatoyinbo had been accused of rape by Mrs Busola Dakolo, wife of inspiration musician, Timi Dakolo, and another unidentified lady within the space of one week.
The COZA founder has, however, denied the allegations and taken a leave of absence.
Modele, during the church’s service on Sunday, affirmed her husband as the “father” of COZA.
The church has branches in Lagos, Rivers, Kwara and Dubai, with the headquarters located in Abuja.
Modele, who was barely audible amid the loud cheers of congregants, said, “One of the things that I say about my husband is that I would have never had the opportunity — I used to be so shy to talk to one person. I used to let him do all the talking because I was a very introverted person. But he was able to help me see, like he was able to help many of us see, that there was greatness in me.
“So, I don’t have a problem standing before you this morning. The Lagos church, the Ilorin church, the Port Harcourt church, anywhere it is, Pastor Biodun is the father of that church. I’m not your friend if you don’t celebrate this man.”
The Police Command in Kano State says it has arrested a 19-year-old Woman, Mariya Suleiman, of Badawa Quarters, Kano, for allegedly stabbing her 30-year-old brother, Sani Suleiman, to death.
DSP Abdullahi Haruna, the Police Public Relations’ Officer (PPRO) disclosed this in a statement in Kano on Sunday.
He said the incident occurred on July 6, at about 8 p.m. at Badawa Quarters Kano.
Haruna said that preliminary investigations revealed that Suleiman and the victim had a misunderstanding and in the process, she stabbed him to death.
“The misunderstanding occurred when the victim ordered that the music going on during the marriage ceremony of one of their sisters be stopped which Suleiman resisted in the process, she used a knife and stabbed him on his neck,” the PPRO said.
He said the victim was rushed to Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Hospital Kano, where he was confirmed dead.
Haruna said the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Ahmed Iliyasu, ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.
Former Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State says he got information from a top detective at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission that the acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, were holding secret meetings on how to send him to jail.
Okorocha subsequently made available a text message sent to him by the operative.
It read in part, “Your Excellency, I will like to give you this information. You must be careful. There is a plan to either eliminate you or sink you politically. They said you want to contest for the deputy senate presidency, a position that will give you an edge to contest as President in 2023, so everything must be done to get you out of the way.
“The arrowhead of this plot is Adams Oshiomhole. He has vowed that he will block you from realising your ambition and the first step towards achieving this was to make sure your preferred successor did not emerge. He has been having secret meetings with our Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, over your matter.
“One of my colleagues, Abdullahi, has been given the task to liaise with INEC and meet with one Aminu in the legal department of INEC and two powerful women in the department as well as some national commissioners over your matter.”
In his originating motion with suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/475/19, the former governor said he had come under serious attack from Oshiomhole because he worked against the latter’s bid to become the chairman of the APC.
In a supporting affidavit, Okorocha said Oshiomhole also blamed him for his detention by the Department of State Services during the build-up to the 2019 general elections.
The Imo-West senator said his wife, children and in-laws were already being targeted for arrest.
It stated further, “The plan has now reached a crescendo and desperation in view of the failure of the respondents to find anything incriminating against me and the decision now taken by the instigator of the respondents is to arrest and detain me in Abuja.”
In a counter-affidavit, however, the EFCC denied all the allegations levelled against it by Okorocha.
After apologizing to Nigerians for assaulting a nursing mother in an Abuja adult toy shop, embattled Senator Elisha Abbo, has been dragged to United Nations by the National Council for Women Society (NCWS), FCT Chapter.
The society is asking the United Nations and all other international organizations to ensure the prosecution of Abbo in order to guard against future occurrence.
Abbo was released on bail on Friday.
The FCT Chairman of NCWS, Mrs. Hadiza Umar, while briefing newsmen in Abuja, said the association rejected Abbo’s apology and advocated for stiffer punishment to serve as a deterrent to others who assault women in workplace, shops or markets.
“I am here with my executives and members of NCWS FCT chapter for a peaceful demonstration on what an elected senator, who is suppose to serve us did to one of our women.
”We want to stop the barbaric habits on women either at home, in the markets, shops, workplace and everywhere in the country.
“We are women of women of integrity and mothers, we are not animals and we are saying no to violence against all women and the assault should stop with immediate effects,” she said.
”We reject his apology and we will do everything within the ambit of law to demand justice for our fellow woman who was assaulted,” she said.

Barring any last-minute changes, the police will this week file criminal charges against Senator Elisha Abbo for allegedly assaulting a nursing woman at an adult toy shop in Abuja.
The Senate on Wednesday condemned the Senator for allegedly assaulting the woman in the Wuse area of Abuja on May 11.
The red chamber subsequently set up a bi-partisan ad hoc committee headed by a former governor of Ebonyi State, Sam Egwu, to probe the action of the Peoples Democratic Party Senator.
The embattled senator, who represents Adamawa North in the Senate, allegedly slapped the woman following a brief argument.
The viral video footage had generated outrage among Nigerians with activists marching to the Force Headquarters and the National Assembly to demand Abbo’s prosecution for assault.
It was learnt that police detectives had been able to establish a prima facie case against the lawmaker.
Apart from the evidence deduced from the video, which showed Abbo repeatedly slapping his victim for intervening in an argument between him and the shop owner, the admission by the Senator in a statement last week was also said to have added to the weight of evidence against him.
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command interrogated Abbo on Thursday and subsequently detained him for 24 hours.
He was released on bail on Friday and directed to return for further questioning this week.
Chris Brown is being accused of failing to pay child support for his daughter.
Nia Guzman, the mother of five-year-old Royalty, claims the singer has yet to pay up even after being ordered to fork over $17,743 a month back in February, according to court documents obtained by the Blast.
So Guzman now is seeking over $258,000 in back child support from the R&B singer.
She now claims that along with still owing the back pay, he also has not yet provided the 'value of housing [he] agreed to supply.'
The Loyal singer is claimed to earn $7.5 million a year in the documents.
Guzman also says the lack of payment has created a 'great hardship' because she does not work and relies on him for financial support.
And Guzman claims that the 30-year-old 'has repeatedly engaged in conduct that dramatically increased the cost of litigation.
'He has ignored deposition notices, offered to participate in mediation in a court hearing then failed to even respond to potential mediation dates when proposed, and ignored settlement offers altogether,' the court docs explained.
The pair welcomed their daughter in 2015, though Chris was not made aware of her paternity until the following year. Their originally child support arrangement had him paying $2,500 monthly.

Acting
I really never had any interest in acting because I am a very shy person. However, I usually attended auditions back then with my friends just for fun because after my secondary school education, I was at home for some time waiting for admission into the university.
In 2006, I registered with the Actors Guild of Nigeria, and started going for auditions, and I was eventually picked. There was a particular movie where they were looking for someone that looked like Ini Edo to play a certain part. So, I got there and decided to try my luck. One of the production managers asked if I was an actress, and I said “no”. He asked me to show him what I could do and that was how I picked up the script.
The movies that brought me to the limelight were Bloody Tussle and Fatal Success. I think they are still on YouTube. Those were the first English movies that I acted in. However, the first time I was on set, it wasn’t easy because I was working with big stars; so, I had to pick my lines carefully. I just had to be mindful of everything coming out of me. It wasn’t funny, trust me. I have also produced some movies.

I don’t do boys but I do men because a boy is someone that cannot take responsibilities. A man is someone who can handle anything that comes out of the relationship. For instance, I can’t date a boy who I would have to use a condom with to prevent me from getting pregnant because he is not ready for a baby yet. But a man is up to the task and if I tell him I am pregnant, he would start making plans to marry me.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have issued official images of the christening of Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, as the two-month old baby is welcomed into the church.
Archie was christened at Windsor Castle's private chapel today, in a service led by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Official pictures from the couple's personal photographer Chris Allerton were taken in the castle's Green Drawing Room, the same venue as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding images.
In a departure from recent tradition, the public were not permitted to see the arrival of guests, but Buckingham Palace have made two pictures available.
Chris Allerton said: "I am honoured to take the official photographs at the christening of Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, and to once again, be part of such a special and joyous occasion for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex."
