Woman kills 4-year old grandson in Nasarawa (photos)

From The Sun;

It was a classic case of misplaced aggression, of taking the ‘sins’ of the mother out on her innocent son. And, on a four-year-old child, for that matter, who knows next to nothing! And, to imagine that she saw the warning sign early enough but did nothing to save her poor son from the fate that later befell him? That thought is threatening to drown her traumatised mother’s spirit in further despondency.

It must have made a shocking read when the news of the gruesome murder of four-year-old Ritse Micah was broken in Saturday Sun edition of July 13, 2019. The lad, reportedly taken from his sleep on the night of Thursday, June 27, 2019, at Garagu, Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, was dumped, with his legs and hands tied, into a well in Akwanga Local Government Area of the state. That was the state in which his body was found the following day.

Now, here is more shocking news for the reader: written confession by Mrs Grace Jacob Maisamari, stepmother to the late boy’s mother, has shown that she was the one that masterminded the evil act. And, she did that not because there was anything amiss between him and the boy but simply because there was no love lost between her and his mother. Never has misplaced anger come couched in such heartless act!

How the evil deed was done

The late Ritse is the son of the daughter of the first wife to her husband, Micah Kapechi.  She died many years ago after having two children for the man. Her second daughter, Miracle Micah, is the mother of the late boy said to be a love child.

It was after the death of their mother that their father decided to marry Grace who is now cooling her feet at the criminal investigation department of the Nigerian Police headquarters in Lafia after admitting complicity in the death of the boy.

That was after devilish ideas began to fly into her head on how to cause heartbreak and maximum sorrow for his mother with whom she is in no good terms. She confessed that on that fateful day, she had pretended to travel very early to Garaku from Akwanga without her husband’s knowledge or consent but she actually hid somewhere till evening. And when she noticed her husband go out with the boy to deliver a message, she quietly used her own key to open the house without anybody noticing her presence and hid somewhere in the room he usually sleeps.

Shortly afterward, her husband walked in and prepared him for sleep. But when she noticed that he had gone to his room to sleep, she quickly came out of her hiding, grabbed the boy who was deep asleep and headed to Akwanga that night, by a pre-arranged vehicle.

In Akwanga, she tied his legs and hands and threw him alive into a deep well where he died from hypoxemia. What was his offence? The woman confessed that she had no problem with Ritse. He is innocent, she admits, but her grudge is with his mother who has been rude to her since she got married to her father. “I decided to kill the innocent boy due to the attitude of his mother,” she said.

Self-justification and guilt over the murder

However, after carrying out the deed, her heartless ego came under constant haunt of guilt. Her words: “After killing the boy, it dawned on me that I took the matter too far. I was restless but my anger against his mother’s attitude could not stop it from happening. Initially, I felt fulfilled and normal. I slept that night after the incident but the consequence of my action became clear after I was picked up by the police. I felt cold for the first time.”

Destiny appears to have played a wicked one on me at the early stage, she insists, “but I would rededicate the rest of my life to sincerely seek forgiveness. I don’t know what came over me but the mother of this boy is the major problem in my marriage. She has stolen my joy since I got married to her father, it has been from one problem to another,” she lamented. But she would not go into detail on the nature of the so-called “major problem in her marriage” caused by the boy’s mother that could have warranted or justified her to carry out the evil act.

When our correspondent spoke with Miracle, the mother of the late Ritse who have just finished her examinations at the state university in Keffi, he found her inconsolable over her son’s death. According to her, she felt that something bad had happened when she started having some strange feelings she couldn’t explain. “I was in school,” she said. “My heart was beating. It wasn’t okay with my spirit. So after my exams, I put a call to my father. On picking the call, we exchange greetings and he said we need to talk and he cut the call. After a short while, I called back and he said it was not something we can discuss on phone. He said I should come home. So I prepared and came down to Garaku from Keffi where I am schooling. On getting to my father’s house, some neighbours’ children welcomed me with the sad news of the death of my son.”

The 300 level Sociology student said she could not hold back tears. For several hours, she wept while raining curses on whoever killed her innocent and promising son. “My son doesn’t deserve such brutality at the age of 4,” she said as she broke into tears again. “He is too innocent for any right thinking person to tie his legs and hands and dump him in the well till he died.” She eventually resigned herself to fate. “I leave everything to God,” she said. “That person will never see peace in his or her life.”

The early warning signs ignored

For the traumatised woman, the warning sign had been there all along, it’s unfortunate that she did not pay any attention until it was too late. She reported that her stepmother’s plan to get rid of her child started a long time ago. She recalled an incident that occurred last year in which her late son suddenly got missing from the house. But he was later found by a riverbank and returned home by a farmer the following morning.

She recalled how it all happened: “I went to buy some things for his school and he asked me to buy him bobo drink. But on getting home, he was nowhere to be found. We searched all around but to no avail, so we resigned ourselves to fate that night. We later reported the case to the police. But thank God, the following morning the boy was found at a river bank by a good farmer and brought back home.”

She said that few days after, her late son told her that it was her stepmother (Grace) that took him to the riverside and threw him there to die. “When my father came back from work, I told him, but he said it was a weighty allegation, adding that he didn’t want any trouble. He asked me to keep mute over the issue. But I told my brother about it.”

From all indications the issue that generated mutual hatred between the boy’s mother and the killer stepmother as to lead to the innocent child’s death, appears to be a longstanding one. “My mother died in 2002 and my father married my stepmother in 2004,” she said. “But since she came, we have no peace in this house. She chased away all my father’s friends and relations. In this area, she is at war with everybody. He chased away all tenants from our house.”

In as much as Miracle finds her stepmother’s heartless act surprising and unbelievable, she regrets not doing something to save the situation when she perceived the early warning signs.  Ruminating on Grace’s character and on incident, she said: “there was never a good testimony about her. At a point, I wanted to take my son somewhere to school but my father prevailed on me to leave the boy here. I wanted to take him away because anytime I came home from school, neighbours would tell me about the maltreatments she subjects my son to. Severally, I complained to my father but he loves his wife and equally loves my late son. Therefore there was nothing I could do. He doesn’t want his grandson taken away from him. He always said he doesn’t want the boy to stay away. But now the evil person has taken him away and killed him.”

Asari Dokubo asks herdsmen to leave Southern Nigeria

Ex-Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, has called on South-South and South-Easterners to return home following threats from Coalition of Northern Groups, asking the herdsmen in South-South to also leave the zone.

Asari spoke on the heels of the Coalition of Northern Groups and the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, and the gruesome killing of  Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, daughter of the leader of Afenifere, last week.

Members of the Northern Elders Forum and the Coalition of the Northern Groups have asked Fulani herdsmen to leave the southern part of Nigeria.

They said the herdsmen should return to the North where their (herdsmen) safety and that of their property could be guaranteed.

The northern elders and the youths said they were worried that some southern leaders had allegedly openly threatened war against the Fulani herdsmen.

Speaking during a meeting with leaders of Niger Delta states, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Friday, Dokubo said the people of the Niger Delta today, resolved to be part and parcel of the actualization the United States of Biafra.

In his words, “What has brought us here today is the dark cloud that is gathering. In 1967, we did not ask for war, war was imposed on us and millions of our people were killed. Our properties were destroyed and so many people until today are carrying the scars of that imposed war.

“Our people have not gone to Kano, Kebbi, Sokoto, Borno to ask that land be forcefully given to us or that our resources should be used to give us properties in the north.

“But northern organizations and northern individuals have come up to say we must surrender our land to them to create colonies on our land. Are you going to allow that?

“We will not surrender one grain of sand of our sacred land to anybody. We will stand on our land and wait for you to come and carry out your threat and inshallah by the grace of God we will defeat you.

“We have heard that you have called your people to come back home. They should all go, we will assist them to leave (because) this is what we have been looking for all along.

“We call on our people, Igbo, Ibibio, Ikwerre, Ijaw return back home. If anything happens to you and these coward spines on you, you would have yourself to blame. We would not continue to risk our integrity and our pride because of you, return home now.

“We extend a hand of fellowship to our brothers in the middle belt who are suffering the same pain and deprivation as we do. We are with you in your hours of grief and pain and we will stand with you to the end.

“To our Yoruba brothers in Afenifere, and the leader of Afenifere, whose daughter has been gruesomely murdered by these Gambari invaders, we condole with you but this is the price we have to pay to wake up.”

Beyonce splits from music adviser she worked with since she was 11

Beyonce has split from Teresa LaBarbera Whites, the music adviser she has worked with since the pop superstar was only 11 years old.

There is apparently no bad blood between the 37-year-old singer and her former collaborator, according to Showbiz411.

The website vaguely referred to 'tension' involving Steve Pamon, the new chief operating officer of Beyonce's Parkwood Entertainment.

Steve comes from JP Morgan Chase, with the result that his mindset is reportedly more attuned to corporate concerns than artistic ones.

In addition to Beyonce, Teresa also helped nurture a career comeback for Britney Spears and make Jessica Simpson a star.

Now a massively desired music adviser who has worked with such names as P!nk, she was a Columbia scout when she met then nine-year-old Beyonce.

She and the little girl's manager and father Michael Knowles were among the adults who propelled Beyonce to fame as part of the girl group Destiny's Child.

Charles Olumo talks about his life, ailments at 94

Veteran actor, Abdulsalam Ishola Sanyaolu popularly known as Charles Olumo Agbako in this interview with playgroundng talks about his life, ailments among others at 94. Enjoy!

Papa, it’s been quite a while, where have you been?

Thanks so much. I have been sick but thank God I’m back on my feet.

What was the nature of the ailment?

It’s heart-related. After series of test, I was told that my heart was weak, coupled with the fact that I often forgot things, so I was placed on drugs that must be used to avoid any crisis.

What of surgery? Did they perform any surgery on you?

No, the doctors said there was no way they could perform surgery on me. They said the drugs were very essential and must not be skipped. Though, I was operated upon when I had urinary ailment recently, I’m free from that now.

Is your association, ANTP or TAMPAN aware of this?

Different people with different characters; some members were aware but it’s only Esther Idowu Philips aka Mama Rainbow that came to my rescue. She sent money to me regularly to feed and buy drugs.

Do you have any regret going into acting?

No. Our generation suffered a lot; we didn’t make money from acting. During our time, we worked to entertain people. I started as an entertainer, whereby 12 people will be pounding (yam) on my chest. At times, I would be dancing on broken bottles.

How did you get such power to withstand 12 people pounding on your chest?

It’s by practice not by any power. Also, with constant practice, I was able to jump down from a 10-storey building.

That means the ailment could be as a result of those dangerous things you’ve done in the past?

Yes, we took a lot of risks to entertain our audience in those days.

At 94, do you still act?

Yes, I do, but not regularly as before.

You mean you didn’t make money from acting?

Yes, all we were looking for in those days was fame and not money.

What then can you say you’ve achieved in the movie industry?

Thank God, I have a house. I also have children but some of them are still young.

At your age, you still have little children, how come?

I have grown up children who are doing fine. But I have some younger ones who are still living with me.

It means you have many children?

No, I only have five children from two wives.

Do you have any regret so far?

No. I thank God for the fame He gave me.

Right now, what do you want the government to do for you?

I want financial assistance from the government.

How many films have you produced so far?

I have produced three films such as Agba Aja, Ajana Oro and Nkan Se, but I didn’t make money from them.

Why do you always play a wicked man in films?

I don’t play wicked roles but that of a ‘bad man’. I play ‘bad man’ to educate people, most especially, evildoers that the wages of sin is death.

What are the differences between Agbakoin films and Agbako at home?

Is Agbako a good thing? (Laughter). At home, I’m Sanyaolu; but as soon as I put on the costume, it’s as if another power has come over me and I’m possessed.

Do you take any stimulant before going on stage?

No. I don’t smoke, I don’t take alcohol or any stimulant; my acting is natural.

Do you worship an idol that possesses you while acting?

No, I’m a Christian and an Anglican for that matter. It was the late Abdul Jabar that sponsored me and my other colleagues to Mecca sometimes ago, that’s when I became an Alhaji.

What lessons can the younger ones learn from you to make it big like you?

They should be honest with themselves. They should not be diabolical because I am not fetish; I only play a fetish man in films.

No one lives forever, so how do you want to be buried when you die?

I have instructed my children, and I’m saying it again, that I should be buried the same day I join my ancestors. I should not be taken to any mortuary.

What of your colleagues? Have you told them this too?

I have told them, and I’m also using this opportunity to inform them, that nobody should come and shed crocodile tears at my burial. If they do, my spirit will flog them, because when I needed their help, they were nowhere to be found.

Did you mentor any of the young ones?

Yes, I mentored many; some are dead while others are alive. One of those still active is Muyiwa Ademola also known as Authentic.

What else do you do now aside acting?

As you are aware, I was a mechanic before I started acting. I can’t do any other job except acting, the only snag is I didn’t make money form acting, I only made name.

Man slaps 9-year old in the face 'because he was playing near his house' (photos)

A nine-year-old boy was knocked to the ground when he was slapped by a man, for "playing near his house".

CCTV footage shows the middle-aged man following the youngster after he goes to retrieve his football from a grocery shop in Leicester.

But as the boy starts to walk away with his ball, the man slaps him, leaving the child on the floor.

The shopkeeper said: "The man hit him from behind and knocked him down and left him like that.

"I heard the boy scream and ran outside, he was very upset and crying.

"The man said the ball hit his door and he was sick of it.

"I said 'shame on you, he's nine years old. Leave him alone'."

"I think his ball hit the man's door and the little boy ran into the shop because he was scared.

"I took the boy inside the shop then back to his family and they called the police. I gave a statement to the police on Sunday night.

"The boy has a bruise and is still very shaken up," the businessman added.

In the clip, members of the public stroll past the boy, without stopping to check he is ok.

It was shared online with the comment: "The boys were playing football in the street, as kids do.

"After that this young boy, who's nine years old, went to the shop to get his ball.

"So sad how a grown man can hit someone else's child, all because they were playing football near his house.

Teenager dazzles at school prom wearing mum's wedding dress from 1998

A teenager dazzled at her end of year prom and shocked her friends when she donned her mum's wedding gown from 20 years ago.

Thrifty Grace Jeyes opted against a new dress with a hefty price tag and went to prom in her mum's wedding dress.

The 18-year-old, from Melton Mowbray, Leicester, slipped on the garment from her mum's big day back in 1998.

Grace said: "I didn't see the point in buying a new dress that I will only ever wear once so I had a look in my wardrobe and then mum's.

"I found her stunning wedding dress and I fell in love with it - it fitted perfectly, and I knew this is the one.

"She didn't know until the eve of prom and when she saw me in it, she was so happy.

"The dress means so much to my parents which made it even more special for me.

"My friends and teachers were all complimenting me on my dress as it was different from the rest but nobody believed it was once a wedding dress."

Even mum Dawn, who runs her own business, was shocked to see her daughter in the bridal gown.

She said: "Grace told me she already had a prom dress and didn't want to shop for another one.

"I assumed it was going to be one of her many dresses in her wardrobe, so when she came down in my wedding dress, I was so shocked.

"I was extremely flattered and felt like I must have decent dress sense for her to wear it 20 years later.

"She has always liked my wedding dress, but I didn't think she would ever wear it out.
