James Bond actor David Hedison dies aged 92

James Bond star David Hedison has died aged 92. The actor passed away with his daughters at his side in Los Angeles on Thursday, a representative for the family said.

Well known for his roles in the Bond franchise, David joined Roger Moore in the 1973 film Live and Let Die as well as Timothy Dalton in 1989 with License to Kill, becoming the first actor to play CIA agent Felix Leiter twice.

However, Jeffrey Wright, who took over the role in 2006’s Casino Royale, will return for Bond 25.

‘Even in our deep sadness, we are comforted by the memory of our wonderful father,’ his daughters Alexandra and Serena said in a statement this week.

Islamic TV station faces being stripped of its licence for saying gay people are worse than pigs

An Islamic TV station that said gay people are worse than pigs and magicians should be executed faces being stripped of its UK broadcasting licence.

Peace TV, based in Dubai, was found to have shown four programmes which breached Ofcom regulations on inciting crime, hate speech and abuse.

The channel, which is broadcast on Sky, said the programmes were based on Islamic teachings.

The regulator said one show - called Strengthening Your Family - The Valley of the Homosexuals - made reference to homosexual people dying 'from a disease they contracted because they are homosexual' and said homosexuality was 'a very unnatural type of love that is energised by the influence of (Satan)'.

According to the Ofcom report, presenter Imam Qasim Khan said: 'Then they make laws now, the newest and most brash and insane laws, laws that protect homosexuals and even make it legal for them to marry each other.

'Men marrying men. Being on television in front of our children, kissing each other in the mouth, walking down the street, hugging and kissing - this society has gone insane.

'Even an animal that is defiled by Islam, the pig - as nasty and corrupted and contaminated as a pig is - you never see two male pigs that are trying to have sex together. That's insanity.

'These are animals. Human beings are supposed to be dignified, they're thinking beings, a human being is supposed to be the thinking being.'

Lord Production, who hold the licence for Peace TV, said the March 2018 show was 'an expression of Imam Qasim Khan's views on male homosexuality, reflecting the teachings of Islam'.

'Selfish' groom gets so drunk on wedding day he passes out leaving wife in tears

For many people their wedding day is the happiest and most memorable day of their lives. But for one 'selfish' groom he managed to get himself so drunk he passed out in the bridal suite, leaving his new wife in tears.

The woman, writing on Mumsnet, revealed she is still struggling to forgive him six weeks later.

She said he spent most of the day with his friends getting drunk. Then as they were whisked away from their special day the groom had to stick his head out the window of a taxi the entire journey as he felt ill.

Carrying on the magic he was then too drunk to be able to locate their hotel room and 'looked at her in disgust' when she asked him to remove her dress once they were finally in their room.

She wrote online that she is struggling with such negative memories of her big day and asked the parenting website for advice.

The poster admitted that her partner can ‘get carried’ away when it comes to drinking but reminded him not to overdo it and he agreed not to get really drunk.

She wrote: "He also knows he upsets me when he's like that and we've had multiple times of him apologising but I don't feel he truly gets it as he can never remember what he actually did.

"During the night a couple of times I said he shouldn't have any more but with everything going on I didn't see him much until it was time to leave and I then realised he'd clearly continued drinking.

"The taxi driver nearly refused to take him and he had to stick his head out the window for the whole journey. We then got to the hotel and he couldn't remember how to get to our room (he checked in earlier so I hadn't been).

"I had to struggle with millions of buttons on my dress whilst he passed out on the bed.

43-year old Nigerian widower allegedly impregnates 13-year old daughter (photos)

A Facebook user has shared how a 43-year old widower allegedly put his 13-year old daughter in a family way. The social media user however didn’t tell us how he was caught, but shared photos of youths questioning and beating the said man. How the user broke the news below;

'Evil  is no longer there or is inside the ground but here with you and I.

The high rate of moral decadence and impunity is more than alarming.

Alot are actually alive but their consciences are Dead and Buried.

A 43yr old Widower impregnates his 13yr old daughter somewhere in my community.

This is more than evil against Family values and humanity. I do not sanely think there could be any Justification for this act.

I have never subscribed to abortion but in this case,  I don't just know the best ethical perspective to handle this. This baby can't come forth to ve his Sister as his mother and his Mothers Father as his own #Father.  Good God.

Well I hope the elders take the necessary measures to cleanse the land of this desecration and not sweep this under the carpet.

I equally submit more stringent laws should be promulgated to ensure the safety of the Girlchild
John-Alfred'

40,000 more flee Cameroon conflict to Nigeria - UN

The United Nations on Monday said nearly 40,000 more people had been forced to flee to Nigeria by worsening humanitarian situation in north-west and south-west regions of Cameroon.

Briefing UN correspondents in New York on Monday, a spokesman of the organisation, Mr Farhan Haq, said 530,000 others had been internally displaced.

No fewer than 1.3 million people are now in need of assistance, Haq said, adding that the situation “continues to be characterised by human rights and protection abuses and violations”.

The conflict started in 2016 when separatists launched an armed struggle for a breakaway state they call Ambazonia.

Government forces have responded strongly, leading to accusations of extra-judicial killings and burning of villages.

But recently, there has been a focus on abuses allegedly committed by the many separatist groups too, including kidnappings, according to the BBC.

Haq said at Monday’s briefing that 2,800 protection violation incidents had been reported in the first six months of this year.

“House destruction and child protection violations are those reported in greatest numbers.

“Meanwhile, in the far north of Cameroon, attacks by non-State armed groups against villages have intensified since the beginning of the year, leading to new displacements.

“Around 1,300 people were reportedly being displaced last week alone.

“Attacks also resulted in dozens of civilian deaths, hundreds of houses set ablaze, and widespread looting of civilian goods,” he said.

The UN spokesman said the response in Cameroon remained one of the most “critically underfunded humanitarian responses globally” in spite of increased humanitarian needs.

According to him, only 20 per cent of the 300 million dollars requested by the humanitarian community this year has been received, NAN reported.|

Court shuts down Polaris Bank branches in Osogbo

Polaris Bank branches in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, did not open for business on Monday.

Though no official of the bank was available for comments, a security guard at one of the branches, who spoke under condition of anonymity, said a court in the state had ordered the sealing off of the bank branches following a complaint by a customer.

The three branches of the bank within the metropolis did not open for business.

It was also learnt that all the branches of the bank across the state had been shut since Friday.

An employee of the bank, who pleaded not to be named, explained that some court officials and security agents shut down operations at the branches following a court order.

When Punch correspondent visited branches of the bank at Fagbewesa, Alekuwodo and Gbongan Road in Osogbo on Monday, it was observed that only the Automated Teller Machines were working.

Some customers, who spoke on the development, lamented the hardship the closure had subjected them to.

A federal retiree from Ajaba in the Ila Local Government Area of the state, Thomas Kolapo, told a Punch correspondent that he was in Osogbo for the verification of retired federal civil servants and had planned to withdraw money from any of the bank’s branches in the town.

He stated, “Unfortunately, I don’t have an ATM card on my account with the bank. Many of us did not know that the bank would not open for business.

“We hope for a quick resolution of the matter, because of the negative effects the closure are having on the customers.”

Another customer and resident of Osogbo, Barnabas Ngwu, who spoke with Punch correspondent at the Alekuwodo branch of the bank, said he successfully completed all his transactions on the ATM.

He, however, appealed for a quick resolution of the matter that led to the closure of the branches, adding that many depositors might become apprehensive and lose faith in the lender.

When contacted, the bank said the Osun State High Court, Ikire Judicial Division, made an order absolute against it on July 12, 2019, in respect of the account of one Gabriel Omeka.

According to it, the fund that the court made the garnishee order on was $1.1m.

Polaris Bank stated, “The judgment being enforced through the garnishee proceedings is not a judgment against the bank as the bank does not have any relationship with any of the primary parties in the matter. The customer, whose account is being garnisheed, is a co-garnishee in the matter and not a judgment debtor.

“The judgment debtor in the matter does not have any account with the bank. The purported balance in the account of the customer, which the court attached in the garnishee proceedings and directed the bank to pay within three days arose when there was a cyber attack on the bank’s system and some fraudsters hacked into the bank’s system and inflated balances in certain accounts of which the account in question is one.

“When the order nisi was served on the bank, we disclosed to the court that the customer’s account was used to perpetrate fraud against the bank and this fraud led to the inflated balance of $1.1m, which the bank has reported to the police and same is under investigation.

“We informed the court and exhibited documents that such a balance did not exist as the customer never made such deposit with the bank and that the balance in the customer’s account was not bad by any underlying transaction.

“Despite this, the court went ahead and made the order absolute against the bank. Immediately the order was made absolute against the bank, we filed a notice of appeal and application for an injunction against the order and same was served. But despite this, the court levied execution against the bank today (Monday) while our application is still pending.”

Nigerian secondary school pupil shot dead in South Africa

A 17-year-old secondary school pupil, Chinonso Obiaju, has been killed in Johannesburg, South Africa, in a suspected xenophobic attack.

According to the President of the Nigerian union in South Africa, Adetola Olubajo, Chinonso was shot dead on Saturday.

Olubanjo, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria, said the deceased lived in Roodeprt with his guardian.

According to Olubanjo,  his guardian, Mike Nsofor,  Chinonso was shot around 6.30pm.

Olubanjo  said, “He went to buy something from a shop with his friend and someone  opened fire on them, killing him (Chinonso).

“He was born here, I learnt the mother is in the US. I have spoken to Mike Nsofor to pass the Nigerian community’s condolences and call for justice to be served in this case as anybody who hunts down a young schoolboy couldn’t have any justifiable reasons.”

He said Chinonso would be buried  in South Africa, saying  the union’s leaders in Johannesburg would also contact him “on developments”.

He added that the union would be going to the police on Monday to finalise “on the registry and provision of his papers”.

He implored the Federal Government to urgently protect Nigerians in the diaspora.

Many Nigerians have lost their lives in South Africa.

On June 13, the Deputy Director-General of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, Obianuju Ndubuisi-Chukwu, was found dead in her hotel room in the  Southern African nation.

Ndubuisi-Chukwu had been scheduled to return to Nigeria on June 12 after attending the African Insurance Organisation conference in Johannesburg.

However, her corpse was found in a room at Emperor Palace Hotel where she had lodged for the conference.

While Ndubuisi-Chukwu was initially believed to have died in her sleep, an autopsy report  however  showed that she died of “unnatural causes consistent with strangulation”.
