Kidnapped CMD’s son, 2 health officials regain freedom

Kayode Sule, son of the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Lafia Hospital, Apata, Ibadan who was waylaid by suspected herdsmen and abducted and alongside two other hospital staff, along Lagos-Ibadan expressway had been released.

It was reported that Kayode, Dele Adigun and Opeyemi Abifarin were released on late Friday night by their captors who were said to be about 15 in number.

It was further learnt that Kayode who sustained gunshot injury on the leg was being given medical attention after regaining freedom.

It could not be ascertained whether the N50 ransom earlier demanded by the kidnappers were paid before they were released.

Police arrest ‘fake’ spiritualist for defrauding traders in Lagos, Ogun markets

The police have arrested a 50- year- old described as a fake spiritualist with specialization in defrauding people.

Raphael Ekechi’s victims are mainly in Lagos and Ogun States. He was picked up from his Alagbado hideout in Lagos after his latest exploit in Abeokuta.

Ekechi claimed he had spiritual power that could fetch his victims including traders, contractors and politicians, immense fortune.

He charged his victims heavily, raking in millions of naira in the process, and he often warned them against reporting him to the police, otherwise he would deal with them spiritually.


But he ran out of luck after allegedly defrauding one Emmanuel Ekpe who defied his threat and reported him to the police.

The security men went on his trail and arrested him on July 8, 2019.

Among the items recovered from his ‘mystic temple’ during  the arrest by the police were  a sum of $3,700 suspected to be counterfeit, consultation forms ,a collection of Hindu paraphernalia and posters.

The suspect  who gave his name in his  ‘metaphysical’ business as Raghdra Anandra ,claims to be  a 100 level Law student of the National Open University.

The father of four claimed that his journey into the illegal business started when “I traveled to Accra, Ghana, and customs operatives seized my goods and it disorganized me.

”I still remember, it was during the military era. I lost about N3million  and it so frustrated me that I couldn’t get money and help from anyone.

“It was in that horrible state of idleness that I decided to become a fraudster.

“My second reason is that I found out that some Nigerians are gullible in order to get rich quick and I decided to use my brain instead of gun to get what I wanted.

 “I lied to all my clients or should I call them victims? I lied to them that I got power and learnt metaphysical science from an Indian University and that was how I became a fraudster.

“I have sold pure water and I was making N400 daily. I have followed these people who sell fake drugs in the open market with loudspeaker and they used to give me N500 after sales. It was the activities of these fake drug sellers that helped to sharpen my mind.

“I pasted posters on the streets   with Ragen Hindu monk temple boldly written on the posters to attract patronage from people in need of spiritual protection, get rich quick charm, among others.

“I charged N7,700 for consultation form, N500, 000 for power charm, N2, 000, 000(two million) to see my master general and N1,000,000 (one million) to win contract.

“I believe in the Bible and I believe that the Bible is supreme.  I don’t mention Bible because I know that what I am doing is fake and you cannot joke with the Bible or  the Quran.”

Recalling the incident that led to his arrest,Ekechi said : “This man, Emmanuel Ekpe, was in my office and he complained that what (charm) I did for him did not work. He wanted his business to boom and mystic power to perform miracles as an evangelist.

“I charged him a sum of N167,000   but he deposited N57,000  and he promised to pay the balance after one month.

“I told him that he must pay me the balance otherwise the charm I gave him would not work, because he cannot cheat the ‘spirit’. Unfortunately, it still did not work for him.

‘’When I told him how people like him ran away to avoid the wrath of the mystic gods, I  thought that he would do the same not knowing that he went to report to the Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

“I plead for forgiveness, I will not defraud people again.”

Horror as 'zombie' raw chicken breast 'comes back to life and crawls off table'

The term 'running around like a headless chicken' has its origins in what many farmers know - chooks can indeed continue to run about after their heads are chopped off.

It is commonly believed that headless chickens run because many of the birds' reflex movements are controlled by their brain stems, not their brains - meaning a chicken will sometimes continue to race about.

But raw chicken 'coming back to life'? A viral video appearing to show a slab of chicken on the plate full of raw meat wriggling then hoisting itself off the table is baffling the internet.

The footage shows a piece of raw chicken begins to twitch towards the plate's edge, almost as if it's escaping, then launches off the table and falls to the ground as a diner screams.


It is unclear where the footage was filmed - although many viewers have noted chopsticks on the table.

And it's even less clear how a very dead chicken has supposedly managed to 'reanimate.'

The footage posted on Facebook by Rie Phillips two weeks ago was full of theories.

Some wondered whether it is possible for a freshly slaughtered chicken's severed parts to still be firing off nerve signals.

One person suggested: "Usually because the meat is so fresh the muscles can still move."

Another didn't need any answers, writing: "Hell no if my food is walking, I’m walking too."

Kenyan legislator Ken Okoth dies aged 41

Kenyan city legislator Ken Okoth has died at a Nairobi hospital after a long battle with colon cancer, the National Assembly said on Friday.

The Kibra Member of Parliament had been admitted at The Nairobi Hospital on Thursday where he was put on life support machines after his condition deteriorated, Okoth's brother Imran Okoth confirmed.

His body has been moved to Lee Funeral Home in the capital. Earlier this year, Mr Okoth, 41, revealed that he had been diagnosed with advanced colorectal cancer.

He travelled to Europe soon after where he was receiving treatment for five months. May his soul rest in peace.

Woman commits suicide in Ibadan over unpaid loan

Members of the household of a 41-year-old woman, Mrs Shakirat Rasheed, in Awotan area of Apete community in Ibadan, Oyo State were thrown into mourning on Friday afternoon when her body was discovered dangling in a room, after she was said to have committed suicide.

The incident was reported to have occurred at about 1:00 p.m.

Though details of what led to the woman’s action were sketchy as at the time of filing this report, Saturday Tribune learnt that it was not unconnected with a loan taken from a micro finance bank popularly known as LAPO.


According to a source, the woman reportedly stood as a guarantor for her friend who obtained a loan from LAPO office at Awotan area, but the friend was said to have been at large, forcing the guarantor to be paying the loan back in bits.

The friend’s action, the sources added, caused Mrs Rasheed anxiety and she seemed unable to bear the problem any longer, especially when officials of the micro-finance bank reportedly called her on Friday to see them in their office.

The call was reported to be based on the fact that Mrs Rasheed did not come with the instalment payment that was due as at that time.

According to the source, the woman’s husband, said he was unaware of the problem until Friday morning.  He was said to have told the police that on his return home that afternoon, he asked the deceased woman’s son of his mother’s whereabouts, and when the boy said he didn’t know, he started checking the rooms in the house until he saw his wife dangling from the ceiling of the food store.

Saturday Tribune also gathered that the deceased was the second wife to her husband.

It was gathered that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Apete police station led detectives to the scene of the incident, while the family said that there would be need to perform some rituals before the body could be detached from the rope hanging it from the ceiling.

Woman inseparable from giant pet snail that she loves cuddling on sofa (photos)

A woman has told of how she loves nothing more than cuddling her giant African snail on the sofa - and doesn't mind when it covers her body in slime.

Magdalena Dusza, from Krakow, Poland, adopted slimey pal Misiek after spotting in an appalling condition in a pet shop.

Ever since she was a young girl she knew that she would rather have a pet snail over a cat or dog like most people.

And despite the large amount of space Misiek takes up in her home - he has a 130-litre tank - Magdalena says it is very easy to look after him.


"I had dreamed about owning a giant snail since I was in primary school," she said.

"We had similar snail in our biology classroom as a school pet, and I fell in love with these amazing creatures."

Magdalena rescued Misiek - which fittingly is Polish for 'teddy bear' - six years ago from the pet shop.

She said: "They kept him in a very small box, with low humidity, which is deadly for snails, and he had an invasion of parasites and damaged shell.

"At first when I saw him, I couldn't even recognise the species.

"I didn't believe he would survive the night and didn't want to pay for an almost dead animal.

"After a sleepless night, I decided that I have to give him a chance and rescue him.

"That day, I went back and bought him."

Misiek eats mostly vegetables and fruits.

"His favourites are sweet potatoes and bananas. He is also great fan of fish flakes food," Magdalena added.

"Snails do not have very complex nervous system, so we don't interact in the traditional sense like a cat or a dog.

"However, this really doesn't stop me from talking to Misiek every day."

Unfortunately, while most people are amazed by Magdalena having a pet giant African snail, some can be cruel with their comments towards Misiek.

Magdalena said: "There are also sometimes negative reactions, like people being disgusted.

"Sometimes they try to joke and ask me if I am going to cook and eat my snails, but to be honest, it is not really funny at all.

6 year-old Youtube star splashes out £6.4 million on massive skyscraper in city centre

A six-year-old girl has splashed out more than £6 million on a massive skyscraper. The youngster and her parents rake in a whopping £2.5 million every month by running two YouTube channels.

The little South Korean, known as Boram, has more than 30 million subscribers.

And she and her parents have bought the building in Seoul's posh Gangnam district for $8 million (£6.4 million).

The building, built in 1975, is on 258.3 square meters of land.It's unclear exactly why the family has bought the structure.


But the girl's Boram Tube Vlog has 17.5 million subscribers, and her Boram Tube ToyReview has reeled in 13.6 million subscribers.

It means the child is one of the most-followed Korean YouTube creators.

Crying and releasing emotion over your ex 'can help you lose weight'

Crying and releasing 'real emotion ' over an ex can help you lose weight, it has been claimed.

Scientists have found that emotional tears contain hormones which increase cortisone level.

The hormones prolactin, leu-enkephalin, and adrenocorticotropin (also called ACTH) are produced when we are under a lot of pressure.

By crying, the hormones are released which reduces our cortisol levels - a hormone linked to stress, it is reported.


The body then gets a signal that the stress is over and therefore we don't need to retain fat, Bright Side reports.

It's only tears caused by real emotion that has the effect, the report says.

On average, people cry around 16.5 gallons of tears in their life, scientists believe.

A past study from the University of Minnesota , US, found that crying can also help with healing, boosting immunity and reducing levels of anger and stress.

Police kill notorious armed robber in Kano

The Police Command in Kano state said it killed a member of a notorious armed robbery gang, name withheld, terrorising Rano town along Falgore Forest Axis.

The Police Public Relations Officer,(PPRO) for the command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, made disclosure in Kano on Saturday.

He said the killing followed exchange of gun battle between Puff-Adder Operatives and armed robbers.

Haruna said that on July 26 at about 3:40 a.m, team of policemen of Operation Puff-Adder attached to Police Area Command Rano were alerted that a gang of four armed robbers attacked residents of Rano.


He said that police immediately rushed to the scene where they engaged the armed robbers in a gun duel.

Haruna said in the process, the Puff-Adder Operatives with superior gunfire gunned down one of the gang while the remaining three escaped into the nearby thick forest.

“On hot chase, the robbers abandoned a locally made pistol with three rounds of live cartridges,”he said.

Haruna noted that the gang had been terrorising Rano, Kibiya, Bunkure, Tudun Wada along Falgore Forest Axis for a while.

He said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Ahmed Iliyasu,had directed that the three fleeing suspects be tracked on time, identified and arrested.

The PPRO said that Iliyasu also directed that exhibits or arms in the possession of the gang be recovered.

Haruna called on the good citizens of the state to continue to cooperate with the Police for prompt information and intelligence reports on any form of crime and across the state for quick and timely response.

Man 'used electric saw to cut open ex's skull before cooking brain and eating it'

A 'cannibal killer' accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend before eating her body parts has stunned a court by branding the case 'bull cr*p'.

Joseph Oberhansley, 38, is said to have stabbed Tammy Jo Blanton to death with a knife after breaking into her home.

He reportedly used an electric jigsaw to open the the 46-year-old’s skull before scoffing parts of her brain.

He also allegedly ate part of her heart and a lung. Police said Oberhansley confessed to the grisly crimes, including 'cooking a section of her brain and eating it', following his arrest in Jeffersonville, Indiana.


But now he insists he is innocent and let rip a 10-minute rant in a pre-trial hearing at Clark County Court.

He described the case against him as "all bull cr*p lies" and claimed Tammy Jo was "getting high and drunk and texting a bunch of bull crap".

Oberhansley also told the judge in the non-stop tirade he had uncovered new evidence that pointed to his innocence.

Oberhansley’s trial is due to start on August 19.

Respected actor and movie producer, Adebayo Salami, fondly known as Oga Bello, has told Saturday Beats that he and his sons, also in the business of make-believe, relate more as colleagues than as family members.

The 66- year-old Kwara State-born former president of the Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners, who is currently working on the third season of his new series currently airing on national and pay-television stations, said that even when at home, the professional relationship and understanding between him and his sons manifested more than their father to children rapport.

He said, “When I am on set with my sons, I see them more as colleagues. I see them as the professionals that they are.

“That relationship has grown to the extent that even when we are at home, despite the fact that they are my children, we relate like colleagues.”

Asked if he thought age had slowed him down and reduced the number of movies he featured in these days, the soft-spoken thespian said that his reduced involvement in film productions was as a result of other factors and not his age.

Court declares Shiites’ movement terrorist group

The Federal Government has obtained a court order to proscribe the  Shiites’ organisation formally referred to as the Islamic Movement in Nigeria.

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday ordered the proscription of the Shiites’ movement as protests by the Islamic organisation rock Abuja.

Saturday Punch reports that Justice Nkeonye Maha issued the order in a ruling in which  she also designated the activities of the Shiite organisation in any part of Nigeria “as acts of terrorism and illegality.”

The court restrained “any person or group of persons” from participating in any form of activities involving or concerning the IMN “under any name or platform” in Nigeria.


To complete the process of the proscription of the group, the court ordered the Attorney-General of the Federation “to publish the order proscribing the respondent (Islamic Movement in Nigeria) in the official gazette and two national dailies.”

The judge gave the order following an ex parte application by the Federal Government.

Controversial Senator, Dino Melaye was caught on photo having fun with activist, Festus Keyamo after he asked the lawyer to sing the second stanza of the National Anthem on Friday during ministerial screening at the Senate.

Melaye had asked Keyamo to recite the second stanza of the National Anthem when he was being screened for ministerial position by the Senate.

“I know you to be intellectually mobile, I want you to recite the second stanza of the national anthem,” he said. Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, however, saved Keyamo by overruling  Melaye’s request. Immediately after Keyamo was cleared, he and Melaye were seen having fun in a laughing handshake.

Police arrest teacher for defiling pupil inside laboratory

The police in Lagos have arrested a 28-year-old teacher, Idowu Daniel, at a private school in the Abule-Egba area of the state for allegedly having sex with a female pupil in his care.

Daniel, who teaches computer science at Anatasia Comprehensive College, reportedly raped the 17-year-old pupil inside the school’s biology laboratory.

City Round learnt that Daniel had asked the pupil to bring her computer science note to him at the laboratory for marking.

On getting there, the teacher reportedly made overtures to her and fondled her breasts. She was said to have resisted the advances and left.

The following day, Friday, June 28, 2019, Daniel was said to have sent for the pupil again, asking her to come to the laboratory with her note. He reportedly shut the door and forcefully had sex with her.

Three days after, on a Monday, Punch correspondent learnt that Daniel called the girl into the laboratory again and told her that she did not do well in computer science and mathematics exams.

He again allegedly demanded sex from her so he could increase her marks in the two papers.

It was learnt that the girl declined the offer and reported the incident to the school principal, leading to Daniel’s arrest by the police at the Isokoko division, Agege, Lagos.

Narrating the alleged rape to the police, the pupil said Daniel covered her mouth to prevent her from shouting.

She said, “On Thursday (June 27, 2019), my computer science teacher sent a pupil to me to bring my note to the biology lab. As he was marking the note, he stopped and started pressing my breasts. I told him I didn’t like it and he asked me to go.

“On Friday, he sent another pupil to me that I should bring my note to the lab. When I got there, he stood up and closed the door. I asked him why he locked the door, but he did not say anything. He went back to his seat and started marking my note.”

The teenager said after a while, Daniel stopped marking and asked her to bend down, adding that before she knew what was happening, he grabbed her from the back.

She said, “He covered my mouth and raped me. He then asked me to go. On Monday, he asked me to bring my computer science note again to the chemistry lab.

“He said if I allowed him to have sex with me again, he would increase my marks in both mathematics and computer science exams. He said I did not perform well in his subject. I told him that I was not interested.”

The pupil further said Daniel told her to wait for him in a room where instruments were kept, adding that she vowed to report him to the principal if he continued to disturb her.

“He dared me to report him and I did,” she added.

However, Daniel, in his statement, said he only fondled the pupil’s breasts but did not penetrate her private part.

He said a pupil, identified only as Samuel, had reported to him that the girl exposed her breasts in the midst of male pupils while they were playing at the back of the school premises.

He stated, “While I was at the principal’s office, showing the principal the reshuffled examination timetable, she came for the marking of her note. I said I was busy and she waited for me outside.  As I was going to the staff room, she walked up to me and presented her book for marking.

“I stopped by at the biology laboratory to mark it and I asked her about what Samuel told me. She initially kept mute. When I said I would report her to her parents, she confirmed that what the boy told me was true.

“I sent for her the next day and she came. I tried to have sex with her but I couldn’t penetrate. I asked her whether she was a virgin and she said yes. I felt for her being a virgin and I stopped. I was at home when policemen came to ask for me. They took me to the school and accused me of rape. I accepted that I touched her breasts, but I didn’t rape her.”

A police prosecutor, ASP Ben Emuerhi, consequently brought Daniel before an Ogba Magistrates’ Court on one count of defilement.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule-Amzat, did not take the defendant’s plea.

The magistrate held that the case file should be forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

She added that the defendant should be remanded in prison custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice.

The case was adjourned till October 21, 2019.

Why I fear social media – Bimbo Akintola

Pretty screen diva, Bimbo Akintola, has said that one of the things she fears the most in her life is social media.

The Oyo State-born star, who spoke with Saturday Beats earlier in the week, stated that despite its many positive sides, social media had a way of influencing people negatively.

According to the 49-year-old, many young people across Nigeria were allowing themselves to be pressured into living fake lives through what they see on social media.

While advising youths not to be carried away by what they saw on the various networking platforms they subscribed to on the Internet, Akintola stated that many people only showed the interesting parts of their lives and not the terrible sides, thus tricking many into believing that life was full of goodies.


She said, “The first thing people need to remind themselves of is that it is not everything they see on social media that is real.

“A lot of people only show the sweet sides of their lives on social media, and those who look at such do not always know that there is a sour side too.

“As far as I am concerned, social media only portrays one side of the story and not the reality of life itself and that is why I fear it so much.
