Man arrested for sodomising 32 almajiris in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old man, Abdullahi Abubakar, for allegedly sodomising 32 students of an almajiri school in the Kontagora Local Government of the state.

The incident was reported to the police on July 22, 2019, by a Kontagora Hisba (Sharia police) Commander, Murtala Abdullahi.

Northern City News gathered in Minna on Sunday that the suspect had engaged in the unwholesome practice for some time.

Abdullahi was said to have told the police that students of an almajiri school in Sabon-Gari area of Kontagora were being molested by the suspect who is one of their guardians in the school.

The suspect was trailed and apprehended by a team of policemen attached to the ‘A’ Division, Kontagora, after the report.

It was learnt that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to having defiled the students in the school by removing their trousers before sexually harassing them while they slept.

He told Punch correspondent that he did know what came over him and confessed to sodomising no fewer than 32 students of the school.

“I cannot even explain how I started having sexual intercourse with these students; honestly, it is the work of the devil,” Abdullahi stated.

Son kills father, tells police, no regrets (photo)

Policemen in Niger State, on Sunday, arrested a 40-year-old man, Bisso Aminu, for allegedly killing his 65-year-old father in Yingu village in the Rijau Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect was trailed and arrested by a team of detectives attached to the Rijiau Police Division based on credible information.

It was learnt that the suspect’s father, Aminu Allahbani, attempted to sacrifice his son to his cult as payback for an earlier undisclosed favour.

Northern City News gathered that when the suspect realised that his father wanted to use him as a sacrificial lamb, he attacked him with a hoe while the latter was asleep.

In an interview with Punch correspondent, Bisso said, “I can never regret killing my father because he never meant well for me; he almost succeeded in using me for a sacrifice to please his cult members.

“I am ready for the worst. I was smarter than him; I killed him when he was sleeping to avert his evil intention of killing me.

“I noticed that my father’s attitude towards me changed with the way he was treating me and I asked him what caused the change but he refused to talk to me.

“When it was obvious that he had made up his mind to sacrifice me to his group, I had no other option but to kill him.”

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Mohammad Abubakar, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect had confessed to the crime.

Abubakar said Bosso would be arraigned in court after investigation.

Revolution: IG sends instructions to all Commissioners of Police across the country

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered all command Commissioners of Police in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, to maintain law and order in their jurisdictions.

Adamu on Sunday directed the CPs to ensure that the #RevolutionNow protests did not degenerate into violence across the nation.

The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, said, “The IG has directed all the command Commissioners of Police to ensure law and order in their areas of jurisdiction during the protests. How they do it is up to them.”

Mba did not respond to further questions.

But findings by The Punch indicated that the police authorities were nervous about the protests getting out of hand against the backdrop of the vow by the Islamic Movement in Nigeria to continue with the protest for the release of their detained leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

It was gathered that the police leadership believed the Shi’ites could hijack the #RevolutionNow protests which may lead to widespread violence across the country.

A senior officer said, “The timing of the rallies is wrong, given the challenges the security forces are facing with the Shi’ites in Abuja and Kaduna. The situation could get out of control should the IMN join the rallies and that’s the fear of the police leadership.

Man kills brother-in-law after argument with wife

Residents of the  Local Government Area of Delta State, are mourning the alleged killing of a man identified simply as Pius by his sister’s husband over infidelity.

The fleeing suspect, whose identity is still unknown, was reported to have shot his brother-in-law following an altercation that ensued between the couple over the infidelity allegation.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Saturday.

It was learnt that the fleeing husband shot the deceased in one of his eyes and Pius died on the spot.

Sources told our correspondent on Sunday that the deceased was a younger brother to the man’s wife.

Trouble reportedly started when the man accused his wife of infidelity, a situation that resulted in heated argument between the couple.

In the heat of the argument, the wife reportedly left her matrimonial home to her mother’s place.

While the wife, whose name could not also be ascertained at the time of filing this report, was still at her mother’s home, the husband reportedly visited his mother-in-law’s place and demanded that his wife should return home with him, which caused another round of argument.

The wife’s young brother, however, objected to the demand. The incident later snowballed into an argument between the man and his in-laws.

A resident of the area, who pleaded anonymity, told Punch correspondent, “The man felt enraged because his wife’s younger brother insulted him over the quarrel with his wife. The man, being a hunter, returned the following morning with a gun and shot Pius in the left eye. Pius died on the spot.

“The suspect also attempted shooting the wife and her mum, but there were no more cartridges in the gun.”

As a result of the incident, youths in the area mobilised and burnt down two bungalows belonging to the suspect and his brother.

The suspect’s brother was alleged to be having an affair with the runaway wife of the man.

Sources told Punch correspondent that the woman denied sleeping with her husband’s brother.

A police officer from the Sapele Area Command confirmed the development, saying the wife did not mention the husband’s brother as the person she was having an affair with.

Meanwhile, the Delta State Police Command said it had launched a manhunt for the fleeing man and investigation into the incident had commenced.

Computer village big boy who buys stolen phones from robbers nabbed (photo)

A notorious phone dealer, Yusuf Da-Silva, who specialized in buying mobile phones from armed robbers, cultists and pick-pockets operating in Ogun and Lagos State has disclosed that he buys over 30 phones a week and made between N25,000 and N30,000 daily from buying and selling robbed phones.

After almost three months of relentless hunt, the suspect was last week Wednesday arrested by the Decoy Team of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) over a robbery incident around Ifako-Ijaiye, where mobile phones, laptops and other valuables were carted away at gun point.

The phone dealer, Yusuph Da-Silva, 28, popularly called ‘Da-Gold’ in Computer Village, Ikeja and Ifako Ijaiye, had been on the run after police began a crackdown on the robbery gangs supplying him mobile phones.

The suspect also confessed to have maintained links with three-armed robbery gangs who constantly supplied him with stolen phones and other valuables after their operations.

He sold the phones in Computer Village, Ikeja and shipped some to Kwara, Osun and Oyo States to make tracking of the stolen phones difficult for security operatives to retrieve if investigated.

Abiodun Tajudeen (a.k.a. Shalori) and Moshood Akinwande (a.k.a. Orobo), had sold some phones and other valuables to Da-Gold early this year which is the cause of his present arrest.

Investigations by the police revealed that both Tajudeen and Akinwande are presently in police custody over different robbery cases.

Also in his confessional Statement, Da-Gold said ‘police crack team in Magbon arrested AY’s gang who linked me as the receiver of all their stolen phones and I was arrested. The Police later recovered about seven smart phones from me.’

“I have different colours and designs of the hoodie sweatshirt and I often avoid some areas to avoid getting arrested while I continue my business.”

Sources disclosed that Da-Gold stayed in Fagba Railway Line where he bought the robbed mobile phones before ferrying them to Computer Village, Ikeja, to sell them to retailers anxiously waiting for him.

It was gathered that many of the retailers preferred to meet him first so that they can buy some of the best phones from him.

It was also revealed that Da-Gold is dreaded in Fagba, thereby making it difficult for community members to co-operate with the police.

DSS confirms arresting Sowore, gives reasons

Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed that its operatives arrested Omoyele Sowore because he called for a revolution in Nigeria.

DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, while addressing reporters in Abuja Sunday afternoon, said Sowore was taken into custody after they received information that Sowore had been in touch with foreign actors to destabilise Nigeria

The DSS official further assured foreign countries of their safety ahead of Monday’s revolution protest planned by Omoyele Sowore, who is in detention.

Afunaya, insisted that Sowore crossed the red line after he called for a revolution over alleged bad governance, insecurity and corruption, among others

Afunaya, who described revolution as insurgency, revolt, insurrection and forceful takeover of government, added that Nigeria is not a Banana Republic and cannot be made one by the likes of Sowore.

He emphasized that DSS will not allow self-centered and violence-inclined persons to take law into their own hands.

“Though there is apprehension and anxiety among citizens already, we wish to assure friends of Nigeria, and other law-abiding citizens, that there will be no revolution of any kind come Monday, August 5, 2019.

“A democratically elected government is in charge, and we cannot allow any person or group to foment chaos or fan the ember of revolution,” he said.

Pregnant mum charged with 'disorderly conduct' for letting her toddler urinate in a petrol station car park

But this is done all the time in Nigeria, lol. A pregnant mum has been charged with a 'disorderly conduct' for letting her toddler urinate in a petrol station car park. The incident took place in Augusta, Georgia, US at a gas station.

Brooke Johns noticed her toddler had begun to 'pee on himself' during the lengthy car journey to the hospital.

They stopped and let him out as it was too late to get him to a toilet in time.

Johns was then written up by the Richmond County Sheriff's Office after a deputy spotted her three-year-old son Cohen, relieving himself during the incident in March.

The case against Johns has since been dropped, but the mum had to attend court on two occasions before the state dropped the matter.

The footage begins with the deputy speaking with Johns, after he spotted Cohen urinating.

"All you had to do was take him inside,” the deputy says.

“Okay, in a bad part of town? Really? When I am on my way to the hospital,” Johns responds.

“Bad part of town? What are you talking about?” the deputy says.

The two continue to discuss the issue with Johns saying, “Nobody saw him” to the deputy.

“I did,” the deputy says.

The deputy then gets in his patrol car to look through a list of citations as Johns begins to speak to someone on her phone.

“I’m sitting here with a cop on Sandbar Ferry Road because I snatched him out the car to go pee,” Johns says to the phone. “Because he was literally peeing on himself.”

“I literally snatched him out the car because he was peeing, and he was in between the door, so it’s not like he was spinning around, showing his p-nis to everyone,” Johns said.

Newborn dies after mum fell asleep while feeding him

A newborn baby has died after his mother fell asleep while feeding him, an inquest has heard.

Joanne Harwood found her three-week-old son, Harry Marwood-Bartlett, lying face down on her bed in a pool of blood after she unexpectedly dozed off at her home in Kendal, Cumbria on November 15.

Her adult son Thomas called the emergency services and paramedics administered CPR until the ambulance arrived.

Harry was rushed off to Furness General Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after.

Joanne gave evidence into her son's death at an inquest in Cockermouth Coroners' Court.

A Home Office pathologist Dr Alison Armour believes the baby died after his mother accidentally rolled over him when she fell asleep.

However, Dr Jo McPartland, paedtiatric and perinatal pathologist disagreed and said the cause of the newborn's death is still not ascertained.

Coroner Dr Nicholas Shaw, presiding at Cockermouth Coroner's Court, said Harry "most likely... rolled off the knee at some stage then came into an unsafe position".

Dr Shaw said Harry died because of inadvertent co-sleeping and issued an urgent warning for all mothers to be careful of sleeping in the same beds as their infant children.

Ms Harwood, a self-employed hairdresser, returned back to just 10 days after giving birth to her baby on October 20.

On November 15, the fatigued mother returned back from work and put her child to sleep at around 10pm.

She woke up sometime during the night to feed her child but accidentally dozed off.

The mother then found her newborn son dead on her bed lying in a pool of blood around his face.

Tests showed Ms Harwood had no alcohol or drugs in her system at the time of her son's death.

A post mortem revealed Harry had no injuries or underlying disease or infection.

Pep Guardiola becomes first Premier League manager to be shown yellow card

Pep Guardiola has become the first Premier League manager to be shown a yellow card. The Spaniard was booked by referee Martin Atkinson in the 41st minute of the Community Shield encounter with Liverpool at Wembley on Sunday.

The Manchester City boss was left furious after a high challenge from Joe Gomez left City skipper David Silva in a crumpled heap.

The Liverpool and England defender won a bouncing ball ahead of the Spaniard, but Guardiola was unhappy with the manner of the challenge, venting at fourth official Stuart Atwell.

As Silva received treatment on the field, referee Atkinson approached the technical area and proceeded to show the yellow card.

Sowore's Arrest: Joe Odumakin tells Federal Government calling a protest is not a crime

Human rights activist and President of Centre for Change, Dr. Joe Odumakin has condemned the arrest of former African Action Congress (AAC) Presidential candidate, Mr Omoyele Sowore by the men of the DSS ahead of Monday, August 5, 2019 protest.

Dr. Odumakin made this known in a press statement saying that the arrest is uncalled for as calling a protest cannot be a crime under any law to warrant anticipatory arrest.

The statement reads: "The attention of the Centre for Change has been drawn to the arrest of Mr Omoyele Sowore by men of DSS.

The arrest coming ahead of the Monday protest he and others are spearheading suggests a fleding culture of intolerance that may be gripping the country.

Except he has committed any other offence that we are not aware of ,calling a protest cannot be a crime under any law to warrant anticipatory arrest as has been done .

We demand immediate release of the activist whom we declare a prisoner of conscience for every minute he is held.

We advise the government to temper its mood as this is a democracy and not military rule"
