Breast implants will not prevent sagging, Abuja Obstetrician blows the bubbles

Dr Dauda Adekunle an Abuja based Obstetrician, has advised women who intend to go for breast implants that breast augmentation would not prevent their breast from sagging.

Adekunle gave the advice in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja.

According to him, women who believe breast augmentation will correct sagging breast should have a rethink, because they will also need a breast lift in addition to the breast augmentation.

“You might need additional surgery after breast implant removal. If you decide to have your implants removed, you might need a breast lift or other corrective surgery to help restore your breasts’ appearance,” he said.


He said that breast implants were not guaranteed to last a lifetime, stating that the average life span of an implant was 10 years.

“Implant rupture is a possibility, also, your breasts will continue to age, and factors such as weight gain or weight loss might change the way your breasts look,” he said.

The obstetrician also stressed that these issues would likely lead to more surgeries.

“You might need an MRI scan, which is a recommended routine monitoring with MRI after three years.

“However, recent studies show that there’s little data to support routine screening unless you have symptoms,” he disclosed.

He noted that mammograms might be more complicated, noting that women with breast implants, in addition to routine mammograms, would require additional specialised view.

Adekunle said that breast implants might hamper breast-feeding; which he said some women were able to successfully breast-feed their babies after breast augmentation, but for others breast-feeding was a challenge.

Speaking of the risk factors, he said breast augmentation posed various risks, including: scar tissue that distorts the shape of the breast implant “capsular contracture”, breast pain, infection, changes in nipple, breast sensation and implant leakage or rupture.

He noted that correcting these complications might require more surgery, either to remove or replace the implants.

Blood-soaked man 'shouting Allahu Akbar' stabs multiple people in Sydney (photos)

A blood-soaked man screaming 'Allahu Akbar' has gone on a rampage with a knife through central Sydney - allegedly killing one woman inside a unit and stabbing another in the back at a nearby pub.

The dead woman was found inside a Clarence Street apartment, allegedly with her throat slit, after the knifeman was subdued by heroic bystanders about 2pm using chairs and milk crates in Wynyard Street after attempting to stab multiple people.

Police are investigating whether the attacker, believed to be Mert Nay from Blacktown, had escaped from a mental institution.


They do not believe it is terror-related, despite witnesses reporting the attacker was muttering religious slogans including 'Allahu Akbar'. 

Dramatic footage showed the man, wearing a grey hooded jumper and holding a large knife, jumping on top of a Mercedes while screaming 'shoot me in the head'.

Brave witnesses were able to tackle the man and pin his head down with a milk crate until police arrived and arrested him as hundreds of workers gathered.

Oh dear! Another man who walked by as woman is r-ped says 'I want to join in'

Two tourists have been arrested in Majorca on suspicion of r-ping a young German woman on a beach in Playa de Palma.

The woman, believed to be 20, said she managed to escape the suspects, a 32-year-old German and 21-year-old Afghan, by running into the sea half-naked on Sunday.

Police officers on the look-out for pickpockets on the beach heard the woman shouting for help at around 4.45am and arrested the men within minutes.

She claimed she was being r-ped by the German man when the second man, who happened to be walking past, said he wanted to join in.


Last week, the Civil Guard of Calvià arrested a young Frenchman for the alleged r-pe of a British tourist on the beach of Magaluf. The suspect was staying with a group of friends in the same hotel as the injured party.

The day afterwards, more than 50 people took part in a protest rally organised by the Feminist Movement of Mallorca. The group said it chose the coastal area of Calvia because of 'the conflicts arising because of excessive tourism'.

Police are concerned that young girls who have drunk too much are being taken advantage of, either suffering s-xual assaults or thefts.

A Met Police officer is being investigated after appearing on Nigeria's Big Brother despite being refused permission by bosses.

Khafi Kareem, once a 'poster girl' for the promotion of female and black staff, is a contestant on the overseas version of the reality show.

She became the talk of the series after Nigerian news websites shared a video of her seemingly having sex on screen.


Scotland Yard said it had not granted Ms Kareem's request to appear on the programme and that an internal investigation would be carried out.

Ms Kareem, 29, was pictured alongside Commissioner Cressida Dick as the Met celebrated 100 years of women in the force last November.

According to The Sun, she joined the force as a PC based at Lambeth station in 2015, having worked part-time as a special constable for four years.

An unnamed colleague told the newspaper: "She's a serving British police officer - it's outrageous.

"She asked permission to go on the show but, when her request was refused, she went anyway."

Despite being told not to appear, publicity for Big Brother: Naija showed Khafi in her uniform.

A post on the website of Africa Magic, the television channel which broadcasts Big Brother Naija, says Ms Kareem joined the show "so she can do societal good".

It reads: "Police officer Khafi Kareem believes that you can have it all if you believe in yourself.

"She is not only hoping to win the prize money but she wants the exposure that being in Big Brother Naija House brings so that she can do societal good.

"What people don't know about her is that she is secretly talented in spoken word, singing and dancing. She is an Ekiti native who resides in London."

The post also reveals Ms Kareem would spend the prize money, reportedly worth 30 million naira, on hosting a travel show in Nigeria, as well as investing in charitable causes.

She has also spoken about how she was celibate for eight years after becoming a Christian as a teenager.

On the show her love interest is 31-year-old businessman Ekpata Gedoni.

Xenophobic attacks: Shut down S-African investments in Nigeria, Group tells Buhari

President of South-South Consultative Forum, SSCOF, Moses Mugidi, has said that Nigerians have the right to protest for and against any policy of the government peacefully as enshrined in the constitution.

He called on the Federal Government to jettison its “big brother role” and shut down all South African business investments in the country over the killing of Nigerians in South Africa.

Mugidi urged Buhari to take a hard stand by shutting down all South African business interests in Nigeria as a retaliation against the xenophobic killings of Nigerians in South Africa, regretting that South Africans could forget so soon the contributions of Nigeria towards the struggle and liberation of South Africa.


On the arrest and detention of Mr Omoyele Sowore by Department of State Service, DSS, Mugidi said Nigerians have the right to protest peacefully. He, however, appealed to President Buhari to release Sowore.

He said: “I’m not a lawyer but I do know that Nigerians as a people have the right to peaceful protest as enshrined in our constitution. I don’t want to go further on this issue since it is already in court.”

20 Nigerians charged for alleged assault on four police officers in Malaysia (photos)

A total of 20 Nigerians have been charged at a Magistrates Court in Malaysia with four counts, including rioting and attacking four police officers at Flora Damansara condominium last month.

All the accused pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to them in English before magistrate Mohamad Ikhwan Mohd Nasir.

The accused are Onorwu Chimuanyi Vincent, Augustine Ekene Okora, Onyeikpe Uzoma Onyekachi, Ndubuisi Osuagwu, Uchenna Stanley Ayozie, Chibuzo Kingsley Orji, Onyiyedi George Oboduagy, Eberredu Daniel Chima, Okeke Charses, Obilor Macdennis Chinemerem, Osuji Chimobi, Chinedu Aligwe, Kabuye Christian, Nwokenna Tochukwu Nwabueze, Chibuzo Goodluck, Okeke Chinedu Darling Ton, Charlse Uche Anyanwy, Ususledrock Onyedikachi, Mathew Kelechi Cletus and Anoka.


Earlier, all the accused were brought in Black Maria and arrived at the Petaling Jaya court complex at 10am under tight police escort.

For the first three charges, 10 of them were charged with disturbing public order by rioting, causing injury to four police officers and using criminal force to intimidate the police officers.

For rioting, they were charged under Section 147 of the Penal Code which carries a two-year jail term or fine, or both, while for causing hurt to the police officers on duty, they were charged under Section 332 of the Penal Code which carries a three-year jail term or fine, or both.

For using criminal force, they were charged under Section 353 of the Penal Code which carries a two-year jail term or fine, or both.

All the offences were committed at Block F, Flora Damansara here at 11.12pm in July. In addition, all the accused were also charged under the Immigration Act. Six of them pleaded not guilty to overstaying in this country.

They were charged under Section 15 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and punishable under Section 15 (4) of the same Act, which carries a maximum of RM10,000 fine or a maximum of five years’ jail, or both.

Other than that, 14 of them were charged with staying in the country without any legal permit at a hotel here at 12.20am on July 29 and the charge was framed under Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, also punishable under Section 6 (3) of the same Act.

In the proceeding, Deputy Public Prosecutor Hakim Amir Abdul Hamid prosecuted while three lawyers M Tharuma Ratnam, Siti Rohaya Mohd Tajuddin and Dinesh Ramachandran represented the accused.

Mohamad Ikhwan did not grant bail for all the accused and set Sept 5 for the re-mention of the case.

In the July incident, four policemen were hurt after being attacked by a group of African men during a raid at an apartment in Flora Damansara.

Cucumber farmer kills business partner over N6m profit

Operatives of Enugu State Police Command have arrested one Sampson Nwaobasi, an Enugu-based farmer, for allegedly killing his business partner, Friday Ani, over proceeds from farming business.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ebere Amaraizu, said in a statement, yesterday, in Enugu that the incident happened on July 31 in Agbani community, while the suspect was arrested on August 7.

He said the deceased and one Paul Eze were all partners in the farming of cucumber, as the deceased and Eze raised money for the suspect, who did the farming, sold the produce and shared profits. 

According to the statement, “it was gathered that his victim, Ani, a student of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, and his business associate met his untimely death when he demanded his share of the proceeds. 

“It was gathered that they were to share N6 million as the business thrived for four months. However, the suspect allegedly started avoiding his partners, which made them believe that he may have craftily reinvested the proceed without them knowing. 

“The deceased traced the suspect to the farm to find out what has been happening. In the farm, an argument arose between them, which allegedly resulted in the killing of Ani by the suspect, who buried him inside the bush. 

“The deceased was said to have been reported missing by relations, who could not immediately find out what happened. 

“Following suspicious ways the story appeared, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sulaiman Balarabe, ordered an investigation during which the suspect was nabbed with the help of neighbourhood watch group members from the community, where he was hiding.”
