A mother has revealed how she shed half her body weight, to ensure she wouldn't embarrass her son on his wedding day.

Clare Howard, 48, from Waun Wen in Swansea, had always battled with her weight, but when her son, Luke, announced he was getting married, she didn't want to weigh almost 22 stone on the big day.

She decided to join Slimming World, and by cooking healthier versions of her favourite foods, she's shed 11 stone and has gone from a size 26 to a size 10.

It's meant the former karate enthusiast has been able to take up her favourite sport again, and she now exercises seven days a week.

The mother managed to hit her weight loss target after joining Slimming World classes in Cwmbwrla, Wales.

Speaking about her journey, she said: 'It started because my son was getting married and I didn't want to embarrass him because I was so big.

'By the time he got married in November I had lost six stone and four pounds and when they put the photos up everyone said about how amazing I looked and my son was proud.

US killer sobs his last words of 'And Jesus wept' as he's been sent to grave

Tennessee executed its third inmate in the electric chair since November, killing a man Thursday who maintained that he didn't stab a mother and her 15-year-old daughter to death.

State officials pronounced 56-year-old Stephen West dead at 7.27pm at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville and described how his pinky finger moved the first time electricity flowed through his body but noted the second pulse did not do anything visibly and that it was over in five minutes.

For his final words, West said, 'In the beginning, God created man.' Then he started to cry and continued, 'And Jesus wept. That is all.'


West had a Philly cheesesteak and french fries as his last meal.

The inmate who says his 17-year-old accomplice, Ronnie Martin, was the one who fatally stabbed Wanda Romines, 51, and her daughter, Sheila in 1986 at the last minute decided he preferred to die in the electric chair after previously voicing no preference, which would have defaulted him to lethal injection.

Gov. Bill Lee had denied West's clemency application, which also said West has been taking powerful medication to treat mental illness.

This week, West's attorney in a court filing wrote that the electric chair is 'also unconstitutional, yet still less painful' compared with the state's preference of a three-drug lethal injection.

Delta to ban mothers from bringing babies to office

An official memo to all departments of government in Delta State banning nursing mothers among the civil servants from bringing their babies to office is underway.

This was revealed by the Chairman, Delta state Civil Service Commission, Nkem Okwuofu during a routine inspection exercise at the Directorate of Sustainable Development Goals on Thursday in Asaba.

She, however, said the commission would provide creche facilities within the ministries to enable nursing mothers to take care of their babies.


She said the facilities would provide a conducive environment for mothers to breastfeed their babies and return to work.

The civil service commission chairman said that bringing infants to the office exposed the children to infections.

“Apart from the health implication of this practice, it must be known that this is against the rules and regulations of the state civil service,” she said.

Australian influencer quits social media after brands refused to work with her because of her body

An Australian social media influencer has decided to 'take a break' from Instagram this weekend after receiving a number of negative comments about her 'real' body.

Sydney model Ariella Nyssa, 22, said she had the 'worst f***ing day' on Thursday after opening up about modelling agencies 'weighing her' and then 'rejecting' her from their books.

She received a number of negative comments from some of her 250,000 followers who questioned whether she had a right to be angry.

'I've had comments over the last few days stating "Just because you're not hot enough to be a Victoria's Secret angel you are having a whinge" and "You have to have a law degree to be a lawyer, just like you have to have a modelling body to be a model," she said.


Ariella said she would normally just ignore hateful comments but these made her particularly frustrated.

'Some of these comments are f***ing ridiculous and shows exactly how much impact the industry and social media has on our minds,' she said.

Who told you what a modelling body is? Who the f*** says what a modelling body is? Shouldn't we all be represented? Shouldn't we all feel beautiful enough to wear clothing from ALL brands?'

As a result of the hate comments she has decided to quit Instagram for a few days to relax.

'I am just in shock… I am taking a little break from Instagram this weekend. I need to get off it, de-stress and not think about it because it has made me really angry and I am really obsessing over it,' she said.

Ghanaian female counselor, Charlotte Oduro has said being homosexual is not a thing of the physical but spiritual. While saying she won’t judge those that are gay or lesbians, she says some of them are in church, but the real words have not been said to them.

According to her, pastors are now more of giving than spiritually meeting the needs of people. She said;

“Men of God are no more Spiritual, they don’t pray because they think they have made it already. All they think about is the offering, give more. Give more for what? The souls that would give you the money, they no longer care about them.

“When somebody is a lesbian or gay, it’s not a joke, don’t judge homosexuals because you do not know what led them into the act. There are gays in the church, lesbians in the church. They think the church is where they would be delivered but the church is now where they are even blessed to do more. It a spiritual thing and we don’t deal with it physically. 42-year old Nigerian man arrested for allegedly dealing with drugs in South Africa

A 42-year-old Nigerian national, Abba Ikechukwu has been arrested in South Africa for dealing in drugs. Abba was arrested at the Caro-Park in an alleged deal involving drugs, with an estimated street value of R600 000.

The crime intelligence members had received a tip-off about him, before the arrest. A raid was also conducted at his house. Upon the search, drugs were found hidden in black plastic in his bedroom. The suspect was then arrested and will appear at the Carolina Magistrate’s Court.

Wawu! Wife bites off husband's lips in Kenya for refusing to give her money (photo)

A 35-year-old man is recuperating at the Narok County Hospital after his wife reportedly bit off his lower lip.

Benson Onsongo told journalists from his hospital bed that they had argued that morning after she accused him of refusing to give her fare to travel up-country.

It happened at their rental house in Talek trading centre in Narok West sub-county on Monday night.

Narrating the sequence of events on that day, Onsongo said he was at work when some neighbours informed him that his wife had attempted suicide.


She had jumped into a nearby river.

“I rushed to the place and found that she had been rescued. I asked her what the problem was... but instead of answering me she grabbed me as I got close to her and bit off my lower lip then spit it out, leaving me in excruciating pain,” said Onsongo.

He said the wife had earlier asked him for money to travel to their home for an event but he had none. This angered her.

Mr Onsongo claimed his wife of four years has been subjecting him and their four children to violence.

Neighbours took him to Talek dispensary but he was referred to Narok County Referral Hospital due to the seriousness of the injury.

“I picked up my lip from the ground and put it in a polythene bag, hoping that it would be reattached at the hospital but I have been told it is not possible. This is so inhumane... I cannot imagine that the woman I loved could do such a thing to me,” said Mr Onsongo.

Medics said he was in a stable condition, but it was unfortunate that the lip could not be reattached.

Evangelist beaten for stealing two Tecno mobile phones in Ibadan (photos)

A self-acclaimed evangelist, Mr Akinjide Durojaiye, was on Thursday beaten to a pulp for allegedly stealing two new Tecno mobile phones from a shop within the Femi Johnson Building in the Dugbe area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

The 49-year-old man, who claimed to be an evangelist at the Dominion Assembly, Ilare-Ijesa in Osun State, said he was in the shop, where mobile phones and accessories were being sold, to preach the gospel to all the people he found there.

Durojaiye claimed that he came from Ilare-Ijesa to Ibadan on an evangelisation mission, adding that the ‘spirit’ directed him to the shop to preach to the attendants and others.

He was said to have been apprehended by the attendants and other onlookers while trying to escape with the two phones valued at N70,000.

One of the shop attendants, who gave his name simply as Tunde, said he did not notice when the evangelist pilfered the phones, which were on display, saying he and the others were already carried away by his preaching.

While being chased by the attendants and neighbours, Durojaiye was said to have hidden in a store within the complex, but was located by an attendant in another shop after which he was brought out and beaten, while the phones were recovered from him.

The self-acclaimed evangelist, who clutched a copy of the Holy Bible to his chest, attributed the incident to the work of the devil, adding that his attempt to get money to treat his seven-year-old son, who is on admission in a hospital in Osun State, pushed him into committing the crime.

Durojaiye, a father of four, said the son, whose name he gave as Oluwadurosinmi, jumped down from a two-storey building in Ilare-Ijesa and was hospitalised because of the injuries he sustained.

He also claimed that his wife had divorced him and left him to take care of the children alone.

The man was later released due to the intervention of some persons in the neighbourhood, who had thronged the scene of the incident.
