Nigeria’s ‘Iron Lady’ to fight Martina Horgasx in US
Nigeria’s Helen ‘Iron Lady’ Joseph is set for action against Martina Horgasx from Hungary on Thursday in her bumpy return to professional boxing.
The Super-Bantamweight fight, holding at the Foxwoods Resort, Mashantucket, Connecticut, United States, is the second for the 30-year-old after a one-year competition drought occasioned by lack of sponsorship.
On April 3, Joseph ended the one-year break by defeating Edina Kiss, another Hungarian, by unanimous decision in a six-round Super-Bantamweight in New York.
The path to Thursday was rocky for the talented U.S.-based boxer, who had to buy the fight.
This means that with promoters and sponsors still nowhere to be found, she had to personally raise the 10,000 dollars demanded by organisers to give her an opponent.
This she did through the sale of tickets with the assistance of the Nigerian consulate in New York, which has been of great financial and moral support.
“I have finally got an opponent”, an excited Joseph told NAN in New York on Tuesday, just three days to the fight.
“I am grateful to the Nigerian consulate, which played a major role in my journey to this day,” she added on Tuesday afternoon.

French Montana's security guard arrested over a sucker punch and the rapper is caught in between
He gave a powerful speech on behalf of immigrants on the VMA stage while presenting Best Latin Video on Monday evening.
But things weren't all that smooth for French Montana following the event with his bad streak of luck continuing into Tuesday morning.
The 34-year-old artist was caught in the middle of an arrest involving his security at a club before losing it in public at his team hours later over an alleged sucker punch.
French was at the Avenue nightclub in New York alongside 2 Chainz, ASAP Ferg and DJ Khaled on Monday following the VMAs in New Jersey.
And while the artists appeared to be all in high spirits while putting on a show in the club, things turned south at around 2:30 am on Tuesday, when one person from French's team got into trouble.
According to sources, a security member was arrested for what was believed to be 'unlawful possession.' It has not been reported what category of unlawful possession it was.

I was assaulted by policemen for refusing them s.e.x – brutalised FUTA student
A female student of the Federal University of Technology Akure, Ondo State, who was assaulted by some policemen and injured in the eye, has said that she was attacked by the men for refusing to have sex with them.
Speaking with SaharaReporters on Tuesday, the student identified as Sheba Ogbu, said the incident happened at about 9:30pm on Monday along Oyemekun Road in Akure.
Ogbu said she was coming from church when policemen in their patrol van accosted her.
She said they questioned her on where she was coming from, searched her bag and found nothing incriminating on her.
She disclosed that when they could not pin anything on her, the four security operatives asked her to follow them to a place where they would have s-x with her.
According to her, she refused their advances and that was what infuriated the policemen, adding that they began to beat her and smashed her head on a stone.
The undergraduate and her family have threatened to sue the Nigeria Police Force for the assault.
Spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Femi Joseph, said the indicted officers had been identified and currently being interrogated.

I have never visited Dubai, protest not coup -Sowore
The convener of #RevolutionNow protests, Omoyele Sowore on Tuesday disputed the allegation by the Department of State Services that he met several times with “foreign collaborators” in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, and other countries, to strategise on how to topple President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.
He also debunked the agency’s allegation that he received “millions of dollars” from the alleged collaborators at the meetings to sponsor widespread attacks on Nigeria with a view toppling the Nigerian government.
Sowore, the publisher of Sahara Reporters and a presidential candidate in the last poll, said contrary to the DSS’s claims, he had never visited Dubai or any of the UAE cities.
He said he had never received any money from any person or organisations for the purpose of toppling government, adding that had willingly provided his local and foreign banks’ account details to the DSS.
He also said he never planned a coup as claimed by the DSS, but only mobilised Nigerians “to address the crises of corruption, maladministration, mismanagement of the economy and insecurity”.
The activist, who has been in the DSS custody since August 2, 2019, made the rebuttals in a “further affidavit” filed on Tuesday before the Federal High Court in Abuja in support of his motion challenging the order for his detention which the court issued at the instance of the DSS on August 8, 2019.
The ‘further affidavit’ was deposed to on his behalf by one of his lawyers, Mr Marshall Abubakar.
Abubakar of Femi Falana’s law firm said Sowore never planned a coup, but “mobilised the Nigerian people including students and youths, workers, market women and other oppressed people to influence the Federal government, the 36 state governments and 774 local governments to address the crises of corruption, and insecurity.”

Khloe Kardashian praises ex-husband Lamar Odom for sharing addiction struggles in new memoir
Today marks ten years that she met her ex-husband, Lamar Odom, before marrying him one month and one day later, on September 27, 2009.
And while the couple went through their ups and downs very publicly before making their separate ways in 2013, Khloe Kardashian proved she had nothing but nice things to say about her ex.
In a Keeping Up With The Kardashians promo, the 35-year-old is seen talking to sister Kim about Lamar's new memoir that details behind-the-scenes of their lives, including his struggles with alcohol and drugs.
'The article came out today about what Lamar wrote about,' Khloe began, revealing momager, Kris Jenner, had sent it to her.
When Kim asked about how she felt about the press the NBA star was doing, she said she was 'fine' with it.
'It's his truth, he's allowed to tell his version. Him and I each played a significant role in each other's lives so I think it's natural, like, if I talk about my past, I would hope that my marriage would be a chapter that I would talk about and for him, the same thing.'
Khloe continued praising her ex for telling his truth, revealing that there was a lot of topics she never felt she had the right to open up about, despite being married to Lamar.
'If this is his story to tell - a lot of this stuff was never my place to ever talk about, but, it's definitely his place, it's happened to him.'
The Good American went on to call the professional athlete 'courageous' for sharing his dark past.
'If this is a form of his healing or therapy then I actually think it's really courageous to talk about the amount of addiction he's had, like the depths of it.'
She continued: 'So it doesn't bother me, I appreciate that it's so honest.
Khloe also praised her ex for admitting he liked filming the Keeping Up With The Kardashians and their spin-off, Khloe and Lamar - revealing it was him who pushed for the show.
Lamar's biography, Darkness to Light: A Memoir, was released at the end of May 2019.

Emmanuel Macron furious after Brazil's president mocks his wife’s looks
Emmanuel Macron has condemned his Brazilian counterpart Jair Bolsonaro for "extraordinarily disrespectful comments" about his wife as a clash between the two over the Amazon turned personal.
In a post on Jair Bolsonaro's Facebook page, a user insulted the French first lady, Brigitte, by comparing her appearance with that of the Brazilian president's wife, Michelle, implying that the younger woman was more attractive.
The supporter suggested Mr Macron was jealous, and that that was why he was “persecuting” the Brazilian leader.
Mr Bolsonaro hit “like” on the post, writing: "Don't humiliate the guy... ha ha."
When asked for his response by reporters at the G7 summit in Biarritz, Mr Macron said: “He has made some extraordinarily rude comments about my wife.
"What can I tell you? It's sad. It's sad for him and for Brazilians. I think that Brazilian women are probably ashamed to read that their president has done that."
"I think that Brazilians, a great people, are a bit ashamed of this behaviour," the French president added. "As I have a lot of friendship and respect for the Brazilian people, I hope that they will quickly have a president who is up to the job."
